Froyo update from htc - EVO 4G General

The update is now ready. Downloading now!!

Yep! Its official.

me too me too i'm installing it!

its prolly the same as the manual update

It has a different build number.

My wifes phone that isn't rooted picked up the update but my rooted phone won't. Did they find a way to keep rooted users from getting the update?

If you're rooted, or want to root in the future, DO NOT INSTALL THIS UPDATE.
When people say it removes root, that is an understatement. It also PREVENTS ROOT in the future!
Until someone hacks the release to re-allow root, you won't be able to root it ever. That is of course, assuming that it can even be done.
So unless you never want to root, avoid it.
If you installed the "pre-release" version don't install this either, I believe HTC is working on a fix for those who applied the update from last Friday.

Just wanted to say I have the manual update, tried to reset with RUU, and it failed, rebooting it back to my home screen...........****

Question regarding ROOT

Will Unlocking + ROOTing my Nexus One prevent me from recieving future OTA updates from Google or no?
If you have a rooted G1 (reading your sig) wouldn't the answer be self explanatory?

Did you even read my question?
What does my Sig have to do with my question?
I have a Nexus One and I don't want to miss future updates, such as "Adobe Flash" which is a proprietary app and I don't want to miss out.
If you install ROMs, I assumed you would know that you cannot receive OTA updates anymore. Which I'm sure you do. I don't know personally if rooting your phone, and still using the stock system will disable you from receiving OTA updates. So I'm not of use here. Don't know why I posted here myself lol. Thanks for the harshly toned text ._.

i'm also interested in this question. i would like to root my n1, but i would also like to receive OTA updates from google. i don't plan on installing a custom ROM, just use stock and root for the purpose of wifi tether and a few other root apps. anyone?
I am wondering this as well. I installed the bacon addon from cyanogen and don't want to screw myself out of the ota updates.
Thanks.
You can't have everything people. Pick one. If you need to revert back, I wrote a tutorial.
Chances are you are going to see the updates here first. You guys should know that already unless you are one of those people that come in here, download an update and leave for a few months and recheck to see if there are any other updates.

Sorry, I'm not referring to running a custom ROM. I just want to know if i unlock and ROOT but, keep the original ROM, will I still get the OTA updates or no? So, if anyone knows, I'd gratefully appreciate it.
As far as I understand, as long as you're using the stock, signed Nexus One ROM, nothing would change that would prevent you from receiving OTA updates.
I'm not positive.
The reason custom ROMs do not get OTA updates is because they have the files for them removed, and in the case of the G1, the partition used for doing those is removed if you have the DangerSPL.
Simply rooting and keeping stock should allow you to OTA update still no problem, but like was already pointed out, the updates will be on here befor they are released OTA, and a good cooked ROM is 10times better than the stock.

Why does this matter??????????????
If you rooted, you'd get the OTA updates faster than OTA people!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a 100% stock, un-rooted N1. I didn't get the OTA update within the first day, so I did it manually anyway.
What is the point of fearing that you'll miss out on OTA updates??? With root, that should be your *LAST* concern.
BTW guaranteed you will get Flash sooner with a rooted phone than without!
These threads make no sense whatsoever.

OTA Update and unRevoked

Newbie question - I had installed unRevoked last week on my stock EVO to try out the wi-fi tether app. My device does not seem to have recieved the update today. Shouldn't I be able to force it through Settings --> System Updates --> HTC Software update ??
Or does the fact that I have unRevoked block it?
I tried uninstalling unRevoked, but it still looks like I can't force the update?
Any ideas?
You will loose root if you apply it.
https://twitter.com/unrevoked
Worse yet if you accidentally apply twice you brick your phone.
Can't get the update?
Thanks - I was less worried about not being able to unRevoke - what has me worried is I can't seem to force the update and I haven't gotten any message that it's available?
I think it is a rollout update. Wait it out.
a question
I've been following the 'how to gain root access after OTA' thread and have a question, but they don't want people posting anything not DIRECTLY RELATED to hacking after OTA there anymore. So, I will try this question here. Here goes :
I have NOT done the 1.47.651 June 29 OTA update, I keep refusing it. My Evo is essentially stock (no rooting, no unrevoked, etc. ) I would like to know if I can run unrevoked since I haven't done the OTA. also, would like to know if I can do the OTA and STILL run unrevoked. Or do I need unrevoked2?
I've been to unrevoked Twitter page and unrevoked docu.wiki and see some information, (but not enough for someone new to Android like myself), and no way to ask/post questions directly. So, I am trying here. My main interest isn't even so much root, it's that I want to be able to tether via USB without having to use extra software like PDAnet.
Any help or a point in the right direction, much thanks.

You need to use unrevoked2 and use their modified OTA which will give you the benefits and maintain root. If you install the official OTA at any point, you will lose the ability to root, period (until someone figures out a new way to do it )

Thank you. You even broke it into separate questions. last clarification, I promise: with no OTA I CAN use unrevoked1 and that doesn't break 4G/not what's being blamed for breaking 4G?
I'm not too concerned with most of the root features, I just wanna be able to tether, so I'm thinking unrevoked1 would be good enough for me, (if It's not what's responsible for breaking 4G on non-updated devices)
Thanks again.

2.2 update from rooted 2.1?

I recently aquired the Vibrant and all I have to say is OMG this is a fnatastic phone. it blows my cliq, cliq xt, and g1 out of the water.
Anywho, the one question I have now that my phone is rooted and has the clockworkmod recovery is when the 2.2 update releases around september-ish, will this effect the phone being able to update like it did for the cliq, or will i be able to flash 2.2 from root and just lose root. i would be ok with it at that point because 2.2 takes care of all the issues that i have with 2.1 update1. the only reason i know this is because i have 2.2 on the g1 and its amazing. any thlughts on the matter?
once rooted on this phone, you have to wait for one of the devs to dump a 2.2 flashable rom to get the update. This is why I am gladly waiting to get the ota before considering rooting. I love the phone as it is.

yeah but I heard that if you just root only, you will be able to get the OTA update as you are still using the stock ROM. But if you are using a modified dev ROM, then yeah it will not auto update.
Can anyone confirm this?

Yes this is the case, if all you do is root the phone, you will still get Tmobile updates. You might lose root, but as was pointed out in a similar thread, Samsung doesn't seem to care about locking things up, so you should be able to root again easily.
ok so its more in line with what the g1 used to do if you didnt go onto a modified rom. with the cliq, even if you root and are on the stock rom, you still cant load the ota update because it fails when you try to load it once downloaded. i dont mind losing root once 2.2 comes out, i just want to make sure i can get it. i was thinking of going back to stock without root, but i'm having some trouble getting the phone in download mode

Thanks for the input. Has this been the case for any other phone? Where rooting only will still get you OTA updates, or is this a theory?
Thanks~

[Q] Leaked update...help...

So i was following those announcements about the froyo official update leak, so I went ahead and downloaded it to my Epic 4G, now they are saying that Sprint announced that the leaked update is not approved and therefore shoukd not be downloaded, I want to unroot my phone, but will it unroot it back to the Eclair version successfully or am I going to have problems with the phone?. I've read about the one click rooting and unrooting, but is it really safe to do so?
Whoa... too much here to cover in a small space. Since this appears to be your first post I suggest you start reading. You have many options and with just about as many pitfalls.
Is your phone working ok? If so, why worry now. Wait for a future update.

Yeah it's my first post here, but i've been reading instructions on how to root and unroot. My phone is working perfectly fine with the leaked update. However, when Sprint releases the official update, will the rooted phones receive the announcememnt and will we be able to update it? lol

rooting your phone does not block official ota updates, flashing custom kernels and roms will. also if you do not delete any sprint apps (nascar, telenav) you should not have any problems upgrading to new updates ota.
All I did was install update.zip of sdcard on my phone nothing else. So is my phone rooted? I have no custom roms or anything just the installed dk28. I'm gonna be able to update ota with this installed right?
