Android Internet Settings - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I've noticed varied results, from various users. And instead of cluttering up any other thread, I'd like to reserve this one for what does and doesn't work as far as internet use.
(btw I'll need some help here, as I only have t-mobile, so I can only test that)
Also post what site you use to test your speeds.
I'll start...

Ok maybe I am missing something...I did the search and its like a 50/50 shot. For some the mms works and others it doesn't. Do I have to change the APN settings? I am running the US HD2 on darkstone Froyo.

My mms don't work and nobody here on xda is acting as if its important.................

T-mobile apn settings

Ive currently purchased a unlocked vodaphone htc magic, but for some reason i cant access the internet with my t mobile sim. Has anybody got the apn settings for t mobile or know what i have to do to get 3g internet working thanx
First you won't get 3G with Vodafone HTC Magic since it only supports Euro/Asia 3G. You need either the Google Ion or T-Mobile myTouch 3G if you want to take advantage of T-Mobile US 3G.

Thanx kevstv that did the trick im on t mobile uk i was using us settings lol
I ran into the same problem, I purchased a Vodafone Magic and have been waiting for the 3G to kick in. Only after stumbling across this site did I find out this issue. Is there any software hack to get around this? The seller claims that the phone has a Google ion rom currently in it. I have know way of verifying that. Please give me some hope. I can't even get on to Edge. I currently have NO data at all unless on Wifi.
i have the same problem. i got the unlocked HTC Magic on aazon.com and ive tried these and other settings but i only get data over wifi. anyone now of any possible solutions
Under the APN settings if you plug in:
wap.voicestream.com
You can at least get Edge support under T-Mobile. I have combed the entire internet and found out that the actual hardware for the Vodafone Magic 3G antenna is different. There is no way around it. The example someone gave was trying to listen to a AM radio station on a FM only radio.
Thanks

If you flash a generic ROM or a custom ROM instead of using the default Vodafone ROM the APN settings AND MMS settings will automatically be set for the phone. All the ROMs I've installed on my unlocked Vodafone Magic 32b here in the UK have found the APN settings automatically.
Heres what I'm using at the moment
I didn't want any Vodafone crap on my phone since I'm not on Vodafone anyway.

mms on tmous

im just wondering for those of you not able to send mms, have you switched your data plan to the android data plan?
I've actually tried it just to see and it seems like it's not a problem with the data plan at all as using the HD2's Data Plan, I'm unable to send but can receive (once I change some settings) and it is the same with the Android Data Plan.
I believe that sending MMS is still an issue that needs to be fixed on all builds. Hopefully we'll see a nice big release with MMS fixed next month.
+1 MMS bug...
I have tried all builds and it seems that I am able to send and receive with the sense builds but the pics re degraded. With senseless builds I am unable to send. However I have noticed that they all have the following missing field in common.
MMS Protocol: WAP 2.0
This seems to be missing on them all and I feel that if it was supplied then we TMOUS users would not have this issue.
I have working mms.. I'll be able to post my settings later so yall can test them out on ur devices

Here is my 2 cents on the subject of sending MMS messages.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=758748
I can't find the post or the person to give credit to but he/she figure out that
if you change the MMS port from blank to 8080, save the settings and reboot
All the MMS work great (sending and receiving) I have sent at least a dozen and they get to there destination successfully and in full size (just as I took them )

^ Hey thanks a lot. Now it is working and you saved me hours of frustration!
i get 3G on the same rom using the radio 2.08.50.05
Radio is 2.10.50.26.
I'll try the apn thing in a bit.
Just noticed, the last octet of the proxy IP isn't valid. No octet in IP addressing starts with 0. Should I just put it in anyway?
Nevermind, saw the IP again like it should be.
So I hit Menu > Save but I don't see it in the "APNs" screen. Is this normal?
No its not normal. After you hit save on the apn screen it should return you to the "apn". This is because if there is more then 1 apn you'll be able to select it there. It actually the apn selection screen and you hit menu to add new apn.. and your right on the mms proxy ip it should end .050 ill edit the other post. Also keep in mind that sending and receiving mms in tmous can have tiny pics using a sense build. There is a fix for it in development. Haven't tried it cause I don't do a lot of mms, I just reboot to winmo to send them.

Hm well when I go to apn, what should I see? I hit the Windows key and I get a menu, aside from that I have a black screen labeled APN.
Nevermind, APN is there now. I'll let you know how it works when I get signal again. (No signal in my office).
Gets 3G, but no data connection. Followed the directions 100%. Argh!!!
Cycle airplane mode on then off and try again.. that is assuming u have a 3g icon in taskbar
sent from my desire hd2
I'll try that.
Says "H" which I think is HSPA, right? T-Mobile's "3.5G" or whatever...
Yeah... but the hd2 will only do 7.2 mb/sec.. and the h is actually hspa connection may not be hspa+. 3g is umts or whatever its called

[Q] Why doesn't 3G work on FroyoStone 3.2?

I downloaded FroyoStone 3.2, and it doesnt have 3G? Or is there a way to enable it. I want to be able to use internet everywhere like i did on WinMo. On WinMo all i had to do is turn the data connection on and it worked as 3G. Whenever i try to go on the andriod marketplace or just on the internet it comes up with an error saying. "Attention! A network error has occurred. Retry, or cancel and return to the previous screen." Any fix? Please and thank you.
Have you checked your APN setting?
It is entirely possible that you may have to set up your APN. Search the forum there are threads with all the details everywhere.

no 3G for me.. i have a sidekick plan, it worked fine with 3G
using froyo 2.2
once i updated to v3.2 froyostone
all i get is edge..
i tried alternatives.. adding apn settings
changing radios.
although i cant find a full hiptop internet settings write up online
all i could pull up is the apn address
im actually using the radio i had before.
between 2.2 and froyostone v3.2 theres a network settings change.
i might just go back to 2.2 and keep my 3G service working
im having the same problem any way to fix it. i cant get any data connection with it. but at least my calls work. on froyo 3.2. i have it installed using the sd card 16 gig. or is there a way i can get a perfect andriod for my hd2 where the sound in the voice calls work and my internet. i am super new at this and been trying all day BTW HAPPY NEW YEAR.

but in android i only got the E Edge with the arrows but looks like only send data but no receive, because the up arrow(red) blinks but the down(blue) just blinks once and no more, i have tried the full settings that andoid APN asks wich are:

Proxy: not set/010.002.020.001/10.2.20.1
Port: not set/80/8080/9201
Username: movistar
Password: movistar
Server: not set/10.2.20.1
MMSC: not set/mms.movistar.mx
MMS proxy: not set/010.002.020.001/10.2.20.1
MMS port: not set/80/8080/9201
MMS Protocol: WAP 2.0
MMC: 334
MNC: 030
Authentication type : None/PAP/PAP or CHAP
APN type: Not set/default
the / means i tried those diferent settings.
so i been doing some research before asking here but seems like no info specifically for HD2 with android so i hope somebody at XDA could point me in the right direction.
build is

: go to settings > wireless & networks > mobile networks - click on data enabled and inernational data roaming
international data roaming fixed my problem

Mine works fine
Im a mexican living in mexico using pre-paid movistar.
basic config works without problems
Name: wahteverUwant
APN: internet.movistar.mx
username: movistar

everything else leave default
Ikm using villain rom 2.2 on my htc hero
