Today I got thrown out of a T-Mobile Store for dissin the Iphone4 - Nexus One General

No useful info in this, but just a story that me and my friend found so funny, I thought I would post it.
So my Apple fanboy friend Colin decided to go and pick up the iPhone4 today. He knows how I feel about Android, and hes also admitted that after seeing all the features of my Nexus One that he has no doubt that Android is dominant over Apples OS. But he still decided to get one, as hes one of those “I just need an iPhone cause its an iPhone “ people. No problem. So I go to T-Mobile with him to watch him seal his fate and sell his soul to Steve Jobs.
We walk in the store and ask for an iPhone 4 to play with, and since there wasn’t one on display (guess people steal them) they said we can play with the model they have open to the public if we do it in the presence of one of the T-Mobile employees. Again, no problem.
So the lady comes up and pulls the glorified app launcher out of her pocket and hands it to him. He starts to play with it and asks me “does your Nexus One have a larger display?”. I pull it out and lay it down next to the “can only hold me with a certain hand and in a certain manner if you want me to even half ass work” device. Now keep in mind, Im American and my friend is British, but we both live in Berlin, Germany. When I lay my phone down next to the iFLOPPED, she says in German “oh you cant even compare the iPhone to any Android phone. It s just on another level”. I smile, as I can speak German, but I didn’t want to take on a salesman with my half ass broken German. I just smile and he asks if she speaks English. Then then replies in perfectly spoken English “why yes, I lived in the UK for many years”. I almost got an erection….
So I nicely ask her…”when you said its on another level, could you give me an example how”? She replies “ where do I start? Firstly, the camera is great. It has a 5mp camera that’s much better than the 3GS model”. I say “So does mine”. She then says “ It shoots video in very high quality 720p”. I replied “um..yeah so does mine” (who cares if a hack did it..it still does ) She then says “Something that’s also been added is that the phone can now multitask with all the apps you want in the background. I replied “um, no it cant". I then said (thank God I had Quickdesk installed) “what it can do is have specified applications that can be chosen to run in parallel to one another, like this” ( I then used quickdesk to show EXACTLY what the iPhones “multitasking looks like and does). I then said, “true multitasking can do this…” I then loaded up my SNES emulator, booted Donkey Kong Country, started playing, then turned on Eminems new Recovery album and had it running in the background, turned on Fring and left it running in the background, and then went to Google Talk and messaged my friend Rene that I would swing by his house later and went back to the game, right on the level I left it. Thankfully, my Enomther rooted Nexus didn’t skip a beat.
So at this point, she starts to get upset. Colin is chuckling to himself but is a bit embarrassed. He then asks “so how much can I buy it for without a contract”? She says “you cant actually buy the phone without a contract right now”. I say “that’s strange. My phone is 6 months old, has done everything that you claim only your iPhone can do, and I got it for 400 euros NEW WITHOUT CONTRACT” (eBay auction sniped in the last 15 seconds ) . After adding up the insane amount of money he would have to pay for the iPhone in the end if he renewed his contract, he put the phone down and just said “hmm..”.
So now shes getting VERY upset. Not only have I just proven her to be a salesman who doesnt know **** about Android OR the iPhones OS, she asks impatiently “so did you want to upgrade?” I then playfully say “yeah Colin. After the way the iPhone just pretty much owned my Nexus with everything she just said, youd be dumb not to buy it right”? She then took the iPhone, walked over to her manager and talked to him for like 2 minutes. They both came back and the manager says “Im sorry sir, but we re going to have to ask you to leave the store. If your friend wishes to upgrade, you will need to wait outside. Colin then says “its ok..I think I wanna have a think about it before I upgrade”. I say thank you to the manager and that “im sorry if I made anyone upset. I just wanted to defend my phone agains the comment the lady said about it earlier”. We then walked out, and Colin starts BUSTING out laughing. But the GREATEST thing is that 30 minutes later, we walked into Vodafone, and we walked out 20 minutes later….with his brand new Nexus One (and hes LOVING it).
Now, if she would have known her stuff, she could have said “it has a front facing camera, higher screen resolution, ect (which I could have still countered with “useless if your friends don’t all have smartphones, blah blah). But she didn’t. Sorry, but I work as a marketing manager and did sales before. So if your gonna attack something Im passionate about, you better know your stuff.
Whats the moral of this story? Simple. If your gonna be an Apple fanboy..fine. But if you want to enter a debate with an Android user, KNOW YOUR STUFF, because we certainly do. (thanks to the awesome and intelligent as FOOK Android community)
Just thought you guys might find that story as funny as we did.
Edit: BTW, I dont encourage making anyone lose a sale at ANY type of store. What I did was self defense, not provocation.

Do you mean ATT? Anyway good story.
Oops, must have missed the UK part in my initial read through.

Nah...ATT is U.S only. Only T-Mobile sells the iPhone4 over here in Germany, and only Vodafone has the Nexus One.

Of course they don't give a crap about phones like a geek does. All she wants is to make the commission off of the sale. It's her job, not a hobby like it is for people like us. So of course they will kick you out if You interfere with their business making money.

WRONG. First rules of sales are "ABC" (always be a closer) and KNOW YOUR PRODUCT LIKE THE BACK OF YOUR HAND. She didnt, and at the same time SHE DOGGED MY PHONE. Thats the ONLY reason I said anything. If she would have known her product like she should, firstly she wouldnt have tried to sneak a low blow on my Nexus, and more importantly she would have had ALOT more features she could have named to defend their most popular product.
Edit: And the fact that I like to know what I pay damn near 550 U.S dollars for doesnt make me a geek. I like to know what I invest my money in, and at the same time I like to know the competition and the alternatives

I didn't know people actually did that irl.

Didnt actually do what exactly? Argue with a salesman?

I guess she's used to people who want the iPhone to be the types that are just dazzled by the design and taken in by the marketing.
Still, your mate made the right choice in the end

you sounded like a douche there

Heh. Agreed!

Dude all she wanted to do was make the commission money. The iPhone has one of the higher commission for the sales person out of any other phone. To her its just some stupid job that pays her bills, not some smartphone war between geeks.

I didn't realized there were volunteer spokepeople for products, let alone get into it with a salesperson trying to earn a buck.

Yeah, she wants to make a commission, so what? His friend wanted to get a value for money smartphone. He probably wouldn't have if you were there.

If I were the sales person I'd say something like "I don't go to your job and knock the d!cks out of your mouth!"

Look everyone... the OP has a point. She should have done her homework instead of B.S.'ing his friend "to make a buck". Since she didn't... a Vodaphone salesperson made a buck instead. That's capitalism.
OP, I don't think you were a douche... you didn't whip out your phone until your friend asked about screen size, and you didn't really diss the iPhone so much as you simply pointed out that your 6 month old N1 could do the same. You're fine...don't listen to these guys.

i dont get what everybody's deal is, "trying to make a buck". Know your god damn product and sell it well. its not like he did it to be a ****. she asked.

Nice story, the sales person should know their product, especially if they attack another product. If you're going to make statements back them up. Oh and if I was you're friend who just witness you being asked to leave the store, I would just politely say that I wouldn't buy the phone from this store anymore and that it was bad customer service.

She should say that the iPhone 4 can drop calls on command. That's one thing no Android phone will ever be able to do.

That's a story I know too well. I know what I want and no salesrep has so far been able to sell me something. Even when I WANT to be convinced that buying the phone I want is a smart choise, they still can't win over my more sensible side
And this being an iPhone only makes the story more entertaining :-D

Does your N1 sell itself

Tell us your story! How many people have seen your N1 and what was their reaction? Did they buy?
In my experience most people ask "What the F*** is that" and I just hand them the phone and tell them its the Google phone and show off some exclusive capability. About 7 people that I know have purchased the phone because they saw mine. Any similar stories?
A few co-workers flipped their iphones in favour of an n1...all it took was handing them the phone and showing them the sdk
Outside of work, a few friends made the switch from Sprint (Pre) to TMO (n1), random strangers who saw my phone sitting on a table while having a meal were quite impressed...
I can only imagine what the adoption rate would have been if Google actually marketed this device. Perhaps if they even bothered to make mention that it was available for ATT 3G, or is coming to VZW. Sometimes Google confuses me....
Everyone that saw my N1 ran out and bought a Droid for 99 bucks. <g>

you...you are fired!
My stupid friends only enjoy the Clayton Bigsby sound board and the Boobs, Butts, and Babes app. I try to show off the rest, but they are iphone dilshes and just say "mahhh i want those apps too."
Of course I always complain that I cant play Words With Friends with them.
My boss saw my N1 and bought it the day after. Some of my friends were impressed: "Wow, you've got a Nexus One".
I worked at MWC 2010 here in Barcelona and had the chance to get one. Nobody has it yet here in Spain and everyone's really impressed with stuff I show them.
I personally love the phone, I love Android (first Android phone), and want to start developing ASAP!
My N1 completely sells itself.
I think I installed a bad APK. It keeps listing itself on eBay...
lmfao ^^
haha
everybody who noticed my phone was relatively impressed. only thing that kept them back was the 1000's of apps that weren't on their iPhone but were sitll available just incase.
I got a story to tell.
Went to an Apple store the other day and pretended interest in the iPhone. Asked the first salesperson if it can multi-task yet and how fast its processor is. He got confused and asked if I meant multi-touch (...yeah) and had to google up "iphone processor" before giving up and directing me to their "iPhone expert," whom I proceeded to grill about the iPad and iPhone (can they multi-task? Play Flash in browser? Oh. No?) and they admitted that the iPad is nothing more than a giant iTouch--their words, not mine!
So I further went on to ask them about the next-gen iPhone; the "expert" asked if I already got one and I said no, then showed them my Nexus. He was astonished at how fast, smooth, pretty, and powerful it is--I showed him how many processes were running, some live wallpapers, the pinch-to-leap thing from Desire's Sense, and in the end he said that Apple likes to sit on crucial features and save them for later releases so as to charge people more.
There you go, folks. Straight from the horse's mouth.

HD2 In Public :P

I got my HD2 wednesday because we had a snow day
The next day at school EVERYBODY would be like "woah that's a huge fake iPhone"
that resulted in me getting it taken away by the teacher for the rest of class
What happens when you whip out your snapdragon goodness?

hahaha yeah I get asked if it's an iPhone constantly.
In my biology class this kid I didn't like asked me why I got my phone for $200 instead of an iPhone.
I told him "because I'm not a little puss like you!"
then possibly the only other android aware person in my school said "f*** you apple lover! f*** you!"
it was a great day.
although, I like people not saying "that's a brick!" every time I pull out my phone. The g1 was far too thick.
Buddy of mine saw it and started to make fun of it talking about how much better the hardware on his iphone 3gs was. The moment I finished quoting the specs...he gave me this look like his dog had died and then asked where he could get one. Told him it was on T-mobile only and showed how much faster the hspa in my area was...and he got pissed...

hahaha. yeah I just show them how thin it is, how it's rubber and metal, how gorgeous and giant the screen is and the ui.
However, one person said "that's pretty stupid, why would you want the clouds on your screen"
People seem to be impressed with the screen size - it's a monster. Never been mistaken for an iPhone, and when someone asks about the iPhone, I say, "iPhones are toys for children who needs Steve Jobs to tell them what to do. This is a phone for those who don't wish to listen to the Charlatan of Cupertino."

First impressions always is about the large screen.
What sold me on this phone is Remote Desktop.
A few of my friends have iphones. After they have seen my HD2, the major consensus was that it was "too much of a phone" for them. Damn straight!!
Most people just ask/say to me "is that an iPhone" or just say "you got an iPhone too"
when I brought my HD2 to Cleveland Ohio in February, everyone on campus was like "ooooh shiny" then when i showed them Swype for text input they were all like "oooooooooooh waaaoooww! where can i get one?"
I said, tut tut, not until late March

A friend of mine just got the 3gs and he was like are you f^&*ing kidding me i thought i had the newest iphone i could of slapped him silly, I then showed him a few features turns out the iphone has been returned
People in class are still wasting their money on the useless old iphone, and where I live it's $538 for an iPhone 3gs 16gb with a data plan and the HD2 cost only 50-100 more. Wanna smack em and tell them theyve wasted their money
After the "Oh, cool, another iPhone"
i reply "no, no its not" as my expression hardens
I finish off my text under the desk and start surfing the internet in class, pissing off all the iPhone users sitting next to me with its speed with its speed
all 20 of em!
only one person has ever asked my "why didnt you get an Iphone"
To which i simply said "Why didn't you get aids? Same thing really".
To be fair, I was in a funny mood.
90% of people I've talked to are impressed, but know little about HTC.
Almost all of them said they like it better than Iphone..
I read the whole thread and I must say some of the posted answers are really funny!
Unfortunately, on the "serious" side of things, this poll makes you wonder..
Even though I deeply hate the iphone, I gotta give apple kudos for engineering something that has become THE standard in the cell phone market.
They managed to create something that has become so popular that everybody knows it, children and elderlies included.
Tech sites and experts use it as reference when comparing it to every new phone unleashed, even if, let's be honest about it, the iphone isn't really that much of a cell..
What's even more depressing is the fact that whenever someone takes a peek at the HD2, he/she immediately assumes that it must be the iphone or worse, like a rip-off of it, not even knowing that the hd2 kicks the iphone's ass from sea to shining sea...
Aaah Apple, congratz!! You have created a share of market that really revolves around you..

What's up w/ G2 Marketing?

All weekend I've been seeing/hearing the Blackberry Torch commercials, posters and radio drops. It made me wonder, where the hell are the G2 commercials and stuff?
I don't really hear or see anyone talking about this phone AT ALL. It's only when I go to specific Android or G2 forums that people like us are talking about it.
Have you seen anything about the G2?
At least it's up on tmo's home page for pre-order info
T-Mobile is knownto have a SH*TTY marketing team.
They real need kahonas to come out say this device beats everything out there...
someone has mentioned before that t-moible's big boys have limited budget for the marketing dept. I personally notice this too. I don't see as many T-mobile commercials as a few years ago
I think a majority of the people interested in the G2 don't need need to be marketed towards anyway. The marketing would probably help with phone sales, but I'm not sure it'd be enough to make it worthwhile.
G1/G2 users seem to mostly be the techy crowd that has been following G2 news for a while anyway.

One could argue that by saying Droid was meant for techy crowd too, but its not like that. The only reason Android became mainstream was because of the heave droid ad/market campaign that verizon did. No one knew what android was until verizon ads showed up showing how droid could muti-task and the whole App business.
If t-mobile could produce Ads half as good as Verizon produced for the droid, I dont see why the Non-techy crowd would jump on.
As of now the G2 is in the eyes of Techy, Sidekick, messaging users....
I hope it becomes mainstream like droid....
I'm not saying they shouldn't market it; I just don't see the big reason for it.
If people already have service with T-Mobile, they'll see it when they decide to upgrade their phone.
If people don't have service with T-Mobile, they'll typically find out when carrier is best for their area then pick a phone.
It's a nice phone, but I don't see it as something that would be a big draw for new customers. IMO phone marketing is pretty useless. People that care will find out the information on their own or when they upgrade. People that don't care about the features won't be buying it anyway. Marketing wouldn't really let out a big secret, people will see the phone when they shop/upgrade anyway.

Which is exactly why I said it may not be worth the money in my original comment...
Marketing costs millions. They won't even sell millions of these phones, and profit margins on the hardware itself is next to nil. It's not exactly an 'epic' phone that will bring a ton of new subscribers like some of the others.
So, you answered your own question. It wouldn't be profitable to market this phone. It's not going to be a big draw for new users and the hardware isn't profitable on it's own, so why would they waste the money?
Since they're quite obviously in the business to make money, and they surely pay people a lot of money to make their marketing decisions, I am sure they ultimately decided that it in fact wasn't worth the money. Either that, or they just didn't want to make money (which sounds odd for a company that's out to make profit).

I wish I lived in your fantasy world where marketing is always profitable. I have a lot of crap I should spend millions to advertise, because it can't possibly fail.
You should send T-Mobile your resume because you seem to have the expertise that they are lacking. Their marketing department, full of people with marketing degrees that have probably been in the business longer than you've been alive, have no idea what they're doing. You, however, understand that anything with a commercial will be a huge success.
Stupid T-Mobile.
BTW, the G1 was marketed by T-Mobile. Why would T-Mobile spend the money to market a phone that isn't available to new customers? New customers are where the money is, so it'd be pretty retarded to advertise a phone that these new sources of money can't even buy yet. Heck, what do I know.
Why don't we wait until the official launch. It's too early to tell what t-mobile will do.

Well, yeah. If anything, they'll wait on the marketing until profitable people can actually buy it.
Right now only people that are already with T-Mobile can buy it (and wait to get it). They'd be pissing in the wind to advertise it now.
I have no marketing experience (because im an engineer) but If we were offered a gig to market the G2, I believe we can come up with some great ideas.
Maybe someone should hit up Tmo on twitter and let them know that we are willing to do this, lol

you guys have to realize that they dont have the money to advertise/build hype for a phone that isnt on the market yet. Just you wait, they will start advertising once it is released.

You'll see like two commercials run for a week or two, tops, for the G2.
That's just how tmobile rolls.
All I know is that T-Mobile needs to get on the ball. And whoever the hell said marketing isn't a big deal, hmmm... 30 million bucks for a 30 second spot during the super bowl? Nah, not a big deal at all.
There's no such thing that G1/G2 is made for the "techy" crowd. It's ALWAYS about money. They want EVERYONE to buy the phone, not the 5,000 devs out there. lol
But anyways, I want to see some commercials or something about this. Of course it's going to on T-Mobile's website....

Cheers DEVS - I felt like a god today...lol

As I was walking past anyway, thought i'd pop into Carphone Warehouse to have a lil look around and price a bigger SD card and car charger....OMG..wish I didn't!
A NON-HTC charger, which looked like it was made of paper and a bit of cotton.....£24.99
After I finished my 2 minute mouth open, blank stare of pure shock, I politely said..."umm, ok, just pricing them for now"
What I really wanted to do is collapse to the floor laughing and say "ARE YOU TAKING THE PISS!!"
But, trying to be polite, I didn't.
Then, just as I was about to leave, he noticed my phone in my hand (****!)
"Are you on contract or pay as you go?"
me: "Pay as you go"
Him: "I notice you've got a HD2 there"
me: "uh, yeah"
"We've got some nice ANDROID and Iphone phones in stock if you are thinking of upgrading"
LMAO - awesome, my time to shine and feel like a GOD!! (i owe you one, Devs!)
me "I'm ok with this at the moment, thanks"
Now I did try not to mention Android on my HTC HD2 to avoid any hassle. BUT...
Him: "Have you tried an Iphone orAndroid phone before? they offer the user a much more entertaining and feature packed experience" (blah blah, he went on about how I can get apps etc with the CRAPPle Iphone and Android)
So, I just had to drop the bomb....
me: I've got Android already mate, your right, it does offer a feature packed experience (LOL)
him: "sorry, can i havea quick look at the model a sec, it is the HD2, isn't it?"
me: "that's right, HTC HD2, i love the thing, best phone i've ever owned"
him "Ahh, right...with that phone, Sir...it's called Windows Mobile, Android and Iphone are different User Interfaces"
(**** it I thought, plus inner feelings of joy and "thank you XDA Devs thoughts..so I said it)
me: "Yes, I know about Android, This has got Android on it."
him: "The phone you have there?"
me: "Yes, love it, Android is fantastic"
him "What that phone has on it is what's called, Windows Mobile 6.5, thats the operating system"
LMAO....lol
me "Yes, I know that, but i'bve got Android on here now, used to have it booting via SD card, but now, thanks to the guys on XDA, it's not running on NAND"
him - blank confused look, so I handed him my phone, which was off...so I had great pleasure it telling him to turn it on and check it out...LOL
Well, to say he was shocked was an understatement. I then spent the next 10 mins telling him EVERYTHING about it, the Roms you can get, the Forum, the whole lot..it was awesome...he called his colleague over and he was blown away...lol...LOVE IT!!
cheers Devs - I owe you one...gonna have a big f**k off grin on my face all day now...lol
had to share my visit to carphone warehouse hehe ;-) ;-)
Great story, I want this to happen to me, time to visit T-Mobile tommorow...
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Haha lol great, I was in there the other day and kept my phone out prominently hoping for a similar conversation (god, we're geeky!)
And yes, prices are ridiculous in there! And SD-cards are well-overpriced everywhere... a 16GB is around £20-£25 online... Good luck finding it for less than £50 in any High Street store.
Muhaha...!
Very cool story! You made my day...
Unbelievably great story!!!!
thats more like it!
love it!
Same thing happened to me in Phones4U.
They seem to know their phones but not wot you can actually do with them.
It is a great feeling, although being aware that were it not for XDA I wouldnt have experienced it.
Last time I was in they tried to sell me a Desire HD ... similar results.
LOL
GG
LOL....
I just read whole story.... I a going to smile all day too
funny story.. it happened to me as well
Lol, nice story. Hope it happens to me soon lol.
You should send this to the writers of XDA. Pretty funny
Before xmas, gf and I went into the local O2 store to get her a 3G payg sim for my old blackstone.
The guy serving us hadn't seen one before, he was young so probably hadn't been working there for long enough.
He asked what I had, I told him and he asked if I was considering "upgrading" to WP7, I told him I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot barge pole and explained the reasons why, and why the HD2 was much better, and pointed out that it could run Android, and for weirdos it will probably get WP7 soon though god knows why.
I think I out geeked him, poor lad.
Hey that's a cool story
I had one time in the train somebody next to me with an HD2, playing with it, so I put mine out of my pocket and started to play with it to (I was running Android from the NAND). The guy saw that I had an HD2 in the hand but when he saw I was going to the Market and saw Android, he just started to look at me like
He didn't asked me how I was performing the trick but he didn't stopped to look at my HD2
Hahah, it's so funny seriously - I felt that same level of smug when I visited an HTC stand in my local shopping centre - I asked to try out WP7 and the guy asked me if I had an HTC already or whether I was looking to upgrade etc (all that crap they say to try and sell you stuff)
He said 'if I'm honest with you I'd go for the Desire HD' and *hehe*
I pulled out my phone and said I'd already got the Desire HD.
He said, that's the HD2.
"I know" I said. "Turn it on"
You should have seen his face.
Right on!!!!! lol
I'd just say "Epic!", but then that wouldn't be at least 10 characters long.
I didn't have an "android boast" experience, but everytime I pull out my HD2 in Montreal, people stare at my phone. One girl at a local liquor store actually said "OMG, what is that phone?? it's so big!" I laughed and said, "Yeah, it's an imported phone, doesn't sell here."
(Keep in mind we have no 4.3 inch phones for sale here in Montreal)
Just like my dong
poor guy... a 4.3 inch dong... :-D

I'd say the rants of people saying they're never going Samsung again seems to be paying off?

No pay day yet. This is Sammy's way of confessing they have been trying to do it their way instead of please the customer for too long.
It still remains to be seen what they actually DO about it.
We all know what pathway good intentions paved =]
The bottom line is until sammy gets the carriers in line, and froyo gets released before its 1st birthday! People will rant with good reason. Btw gingerbread has been out for like 3 months! We have a top of the line device running an os from 2009. Honestly I love the hardware but I can't handle this bad os support.

Whoever even buys another Samsung flagship phone with the belief that they learned their lesson deserves what they are going to get and shouldn't complain anymore. If you haven't realized what their intent is, which is maximum profit with the least effort, while actually making it seem like they kind of care with PR rep's that promise things that they cant' actually commit to. INB4C
My friend asked me what phone he should buy, and looked at the Galaxy S2 and the Motorola Atrix. It was a no brainer which phone was the winner. Go Atrix! Pre-ordered and waiting! He was waiting for a nice dual core phone, but after the mess he has heard from me with Samsung, he said he definitely doesn't want to go through the same thing. To be honest, this crap is making me sick to my stomach just talking about anymore, cause we've all been crapped on, and it doesn't feel nice.
I'm not surprised in the least that Samsung would think that this meaningless gesture would diffuse this issue, but I'm honestly SHOCKED that "Xda leaders" would put any thought into this. I suspect they're making money off this, somehow.
This site has lost its way badly.
At least it's a start and shows Samsung at least recognizes they've pissed off some people. It's better than what they've been doing which has been a whole lot of nothing.
re: XDA profiting... maybe request some transparency on the issue??? Besides, I thought they were in bed with HTC, like Sprint...? (hehehehe )
Y'all getting played ... Pay attention.

enlighten us on how were being played... I love a good conspiracy theory...
I HEARD... Samsung sent John to distract attention from the fact that they are currently in hostage negotiations with Sprint, the suitcase full of cash is in transit, and Noobnl has the code to unlock it, but he refuses to share it with anyone because he only cares about glory, so he is meeting John at sxsw to listen to crappy emo music and make the handoff. And THEN Sprint will begin work on adding SprintID and a new, improved, constant Nascar streaming app, which can in no way be turned off. Oh, and HTC assassins are waiting there to shoot Noob so that they can still claim that the EVO is the flagship phone, and artificially make supply of the phone backordered to give the impression to the common consumer that it is not a giant POS. Did I miss anything?
I've never owned a Samsung phone before the Epic. It is my first and MY LAST. HEAR ME SAMSUNG? YOU BLEW IT.

Careful....there's many a self-demonstrated poster in these forums that will actually, seriously, believe that too. *g*
Here's to hoping open exchange of dialogue will soon become exchange of sources and binaries!
Honestly, this was my first Samsung phone in about ten years is so far, it's my last.
It's not the lack of Froyo, this is just a simple annoyance. What killed it is GPS that works like crap, barely functioning accelorometer, retarded hardcoded GPS accuracy refusal to do anything about these two issues. I have a bad feeling that the last bug isn't a bug at all, but an attempt to cover up poorly functioning GPS on this phone. If I was Colbert, I'd wag my finger at them.

Do they sell the car docks now? I've seen them on Sammy's web page since launch, but I have been unable to find a single place where it is for sale.
And you do know that the Epic isn't "a year fukin old" yet, don't you? It was announced in June and launched at the end of August which makes it only 6 months old for consumers.

im just finding this all funny at this point...
Hi I'm samsungjohn, just wanted to let you guys know that I'm just using this pr to gain rank within the amsung corporation. I figured if I was able to convince everyone to stick with samsung and to keep buying samsung, that I will be soon promoted. In reality I am jus doing this for a job. I don't even own a samsung phone. I own an LG, but thank you for listening to me and allowing me to pull your strings....Public Actions speak louder than words....oh and by the way. The Truth Is What You Make It, and Who You get To Believe In It.
No worries I'm just poking fun at this all. If people have gotten offended by it then the truth lies within the offended. Lol
now if Samsung were to really/officially be changing fo the people they would skip over froyo and be the first to update every galaxy s series to gingerbread. Or at least get froyo out and gingerbread soon after.
And powers at be, feel free to delete or modify this if you like. I've already gotten past the point of anger, and this whole samsung update bs is just a joke to me now. Samsung makes great dumb phones but a smart phone is just isn't worth it.
Too late, too slow, too little.
Samsung unfortunately is still working on the feature-phone timelines. What they (and most other android phone makers, with the possible exception of HTC) seem to not quite understand is that these smartphones are true computers now, and need to be treated as such. The OS is an integral part of phone, perhaps the most important part, and people will not tolerate a company that refuses to update an OS that both has critical bugs (and yes, the GPS bug is a CRITICAL bug), and appears incapable of utilizing the hardware it's surrounded by. It's like Microsoft refusing to repair a Windows bug that kept all printers only printing in black and white. It's almost worse that the hardware is so good, and is being crippled by a poorly customized OS (like tantalus, nearby but unreachable relief is far worse than no possibility of relief at all).
It's going to take a really big step to mollify those that have been burned by this generation of samsung's smartphones. Samsung, if your listening. You've pissed off many of your most important phone buyers. These are the people who less tech-savvy people ask for advice on phones, and for every 1 XDA member offended by your apparent lack of desire to properly support your equipment, you probably lose at least 10 referral sales to companies like HTC.
My recommendation, at least open the source code for the devs to look at, and if you're having software quality problems (and that's the reason you can't get froyo out the door), invite some of the best devs to take a look at the proprietary modules that you're having problems with. Work with the community and you may maintain some degree of support for your next generation of phones. But keep trying to astroturf them, or worse yet, pull a Behold 2 on them, and watch out as your current market lead could easily change next generation.
