HD2 Desire/Froyo whats working for you? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Maybe I shouldn't post this thread here(or even at all for that matter), but I don't think there is a dedicated Android section for HD2 yet? **MODS DO WHAT YOU SEE FIT WITH THIS THREAD. THANKS

So far for me the Desire v5 has been rock solid. I've had only one person say they hear an echo from me. This was after I loaded the JMZ cab. Don't know if that's the reason? Everything else works pretty stable enough for me. I can't save pictures from the internet though (save as-- get's an error and forces a quit).
Froyo with the latest Cotulla zImage runs good too. I like it alot better(v1) but market place will not download apps and mobile network internet works kindof. I can't login to certin sites, Facebook for one but the facebook app works fine. WiFi all sites work. I do already have my t-mo APNs in there.
WHAT WORKS FOR YOU= ROMS AND ALL?
PS are these ROMs considered rooted?

to be honest don't really think there's any need for this thread, there are aldready threads open for people to discuss what is & what isn't working

Thanks, I wasn't sure if I wanted to post this in the thread. Useful or just useful to me?

I assure you that this thread is useful.
For me: I'm using Energy Rom (July 21) with Radio 2.12.50.02_2 and HSPL 2 and everything works fine except the Battery.. Desire v5 is kinda using alot of battery and Dans build is much worse and it kinda lags and things, and since i'm having that Sleep of death thing... i deleted it
That was my opinion

not bad
but not usefull either. Back to WinMo for now...

Hi, I'm using Desire V5, works like a charm. Unique problem is battery drain (lasts 8 hours with no data connection).
My settings: a 4GB class 2 SD, radio 2.12.50.02_2. The rom is the Axlor Leo v3.5 (win 23569). I can't hear people speaking in the phone, but they can hear me (but I know it's a winmo ROM problem)

hey i checked the radios and i went trough all of them, if this helps in any way id say use the 2.12.50.02...2
megaupload .com/?d=9GU2FF3X
i used most of them and the most i had was 3 bars in my house (Los Angeles) and now i have 4 bars and 3g at all times anywhere near my house

Running TMO-UK 1.72 Base ROM, 576 RAM Enabled. 2.10.50 Radio
Hangs at the HTC screen. sometimes it moves beyond the HTC screen I get a green screen and the device freezes.

First let me say I find this thread very useful. I'd like to see more threads like this that follow a certain build (dan1j3l Froyo Desire Build, darkstone Eclair Desire Build, Froyo build by dan1j3l V1, etc). Then you throw in the variable of the zImage you're using. Otherwise you end up with 2 or 3 discussions with 500 posts.
Back on topic, I have desire v5 and Cotulla_zImage_CABDET_NOSPEEDDY.rar
Even with a 16gig class 2 microSD, it's fast.
Working:
Exchange mail (contacts, calendar, email)
IMAP and POP mail
Wifi even with DHCP (very fast)
3G data
Android Market
Camera, Camcorder
Call audio on phone.
Very few stutters, no sleep of death.
Presence sensor
GPS
Compass seems a little flakey, but works
Typing is very responsive
USB charging
Wired headset audio
Not Working:
USB data connecti0n to transfer files.
Bluetooth headset connects, but no audio in calls (pretty universal issue on all builds)
This combo, with my radio and ROM are fast and stable enough for daily use. Unfortunately the lack of Bluetooth audio is a deal-breaker.

Exactly same ROM/RAM but using Leo_RADIO_2.07.50.27_2.
Everything works great but I don't seem to get GPS working with Google Navigation. How to test if GPS is working?

It isn't. Probably won't for some time. Don't think this is a dev priority.

I'm using stock wimo from htc 1.66, only updated the radio rom to 2.10.50.19.2. I'm using now dan1j3l-LeoFroyo-Sense-PR1 and it works good. There are some things bugging me. Can't get GPS to work, camera does not work, and with this build i get diferent icons on top (battery and signal) then with the stock nexus one rom, is this a cab that has to be uninstalled.
I'm can already switch between sense and stock, so thats good.
For the rest everyting works well and i would say that it is for me almost a daily use rom.
Anybody any idea how to get gps working and camera?

I got 1 ? How do I get rid of the robotic voice during calls? I have tmobile stock rom 2.13 and radio 2.10.50.26 and desire build v5 I also used nospeedy zimage. I need help everything else works great!

Issues
Using Dans Froyo with the latest zimage (25/7).
This is on Xannytech 2.3 and radio 2.12.
known issues are
Robotic voice. (Any tricks guys?)
Torch/flash does not work
GPS.
The rest seems good.

I didn't do anything special. When I started my Android journey, I couldn't get anything to load. Then I realized I had an outdated radio. I've always liked Dutty's ROMs so I loaded the one below and the most recent radio I could find.
I boot into WinMO. I already have HTC Sense killed because I just use SPB Mobile shell. I kill SPB Mobile shell and press CLRCAD.exe, then Haret.
I retested to make sure they're working. The GPS isn't working off WiFi. Google Maps always knows where I'm at and weather location is always where I'm at. I'm assuming GPS is working then.
However, I may be mistaken about the camcorder. I fires up and I and zoom in/out. However, double clicking the screen and it doesn't seem to be recording to memory.

to switch between sence and stock interface if that is what you mean.
---> settings ->Applications ->manage applications ->All ->HTC sense -> Force stop. then select the home button and there you can select HTC sense or Launcher.

How I solved my PPP issues

I Had major issues with the latest builds because of the PPP addon, the data won't work, or start.
After getting tired of running away from the problem using RMNET, I Decided to change my configuration,
This is the setup I Had:
HD2 GSM (Not TMOUS)
Chuky's GTX lite Rom for HD2
2.12 Radio
Andriod Roms whom I Had trouble with:
ShubCRAFT 1.4d
Mattec Leo+Froyo with sense 1.6-1.6b
then I Changed the setup to:
Cruzer Rom, sense 2.13
Radio 2.11 - 20
Andriod build:
Mattec Leo+Froyo with sense 1.6-1.6b
The first time I Booted I Had no connection what so ever, the second time I Got connectiviy but the symbol doesn't show the u/d status, and it still doesn't, but it does work, which is better IMO.
That's all, just wanted to share my solution to this annoying problem which atleast I Couldn't get rid off.
Sadly thou, I Only get a score of 1051 on Quadrant, don't know why, but the phone runs preety much fast, even with Live Wallpapers.
Cya
just want to ask, did the data connection works on all apps and browser?
i'm using 1.6b but found the data only work on browser but not work on others apps, even whether, facebook, market, news
can you works on all? and how about wifi? i tried another zImange or Rom can make the data works all fine but wifi error.
For me... I used Chucky Tabtastic and latest PPP_Root1.6b rom from mattc and it workded straight away.
As you said, the signal icon remains static does not show any activity but the connectivity works well.
I did not go through all the troubles you have
My fix for ppp was similar. I switched from a 2.12 radio to the 2.10 radio in my sign. Things are working MUCH better.
Sent from my HD2 mattc froyosense using XDA App
I can confirm ppp work in radio 2.10.50.28_2 for me in all apps
and it is stable so far (unless you toggle wifi on/off )

yeah.. that's a really big "unless" for me. I don't want to have to yank out the battery and reboot every time I want to use Wifi.

[Q] I have never been able to pick up a GPS signal with android?

Hey guys! My problem is that no matter what Windows mobile/Android rom I use, I never can lock on a GPS signal. I have tried GPS status but all that does is just run and run without ever picking up a signal.
Here's what I'm dealing with:
WM Rom: OzDROID 2.00
Radio: Radio_Leo_2.15.50.14
Android Rom: MCCM SE V3.3
Kernal: Hastarin r8.4
What could I be missing guys? I have tried numerous combinations but all get the same result.
I have also tried running Quick GPS but that also does nothing.
Do you think that this has something to do in Winmo that I'm not doing right or does it probably just have to do with the Android side?
me 2, in winmo worked just fine, but in android, no signal.
Update that radio and Rom. I will send exactly what I'm using. No internet drop, gps, and navigation works flawless....
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Also change that android build.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Here's an update on what I have changed
WM Rom: OzDROID 2.00
Radio: Radio_Leo_2.15.50.14
Android Rom: MCCM SE V3.3
Kernal: Hastarin r8.4
Like I said I have tried numerous WM and Android Roms with all the same results. I once got a great GPS signal on a froyo build that I can't remember the name of, but decided to switch back to sense because I like it better.
Are there any special things that I need to do in WM before I boot Android? Like have airplane mode on or something like that?
I've used MDJ Sense v2.2 rEVO and right now MDJ Matted v1.4. I got GPS signals with both builds. It does take minimum 5 mins to get satellite signal tho, and you need to be outside.
Use mdj sense v 1.7 its fine with me..or try use fasterfix
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Anyone else have any ideas?
this is a stupid question but did you make sure to stand outside while trying to get a luck on the gps? What app were you using when trying to get a lock? Google map? Copilot?

Yes, I tried inside and out. I was using google maps and gps status.
there's no point trying inside, if you can't even get one outside.
just try using gps status, downloading the gps assisstance data, then just standing out side for a good 15 minutes just to ensure you don't get a signal, because you may just be impatient!
if after that you still don't get one, perhaps try a different android build
i use m-deejays and gps is flawless! quicker lock than my satnav, probably due to the assistance data!

[Q] Data Connection Problems

Hi,
since some time, I am experiencing problems with my data connection. I dont really now, why but those persist through changes of AndroidOS, Radio and WM-ROM.
The Facts: HD2 european version, Operator: O2 Germany
The Problem in detail: When I am at home, I want to use my WLAN connection but some times, it doesnt connect to it. I have to manually go into the menu and reset my wlan-connection, so it works. Much more annoying is the fact, that when I am not at home (and WLAN is out of range), the phone often doesnt connect HSPA/3G/GSM/whatever and programms like maps, opera etc just claim to not having a data connection ready, though there are 2 to 4 bars. Only way to solve this -> go to flight mode, thet deactivate flight mode OR deactivate data connection, then reacivate it. Either way its annoing and mails won't be downloaded in this time, too.
My first setups, when I didnt have this problem where with WM OZDroid ROM, 2.12.50.XX Radio and many different Androidbuilts (no working compass / lightsensor etc - you know for sure ) Then I got to MDJ-Roms which I really liked and I never used another since those times. Still no Problems.
Then, by some time, I installed a new MDJ ROM - Mdeejay_FroYo_Sense_v._1.1_Clean_R75. This Rom needet to have PIN-auth disabled in Windows or it hung up in LOOP ( ). Sadly I installed a new WM-ROM and radio at the same time (I know, never change multiple parts at once... ugh!). Those where VBNDroid-Reloaded2-21913-Oct08 and Radio 2.15.50.14.
Since that time, I have this strange connection problem. I allready changed back to an oZDroid version and tried Radio 2.12 and 2.15. As Android ROM, i used MDJ eVo Sense Revolution 1.8 and now Mdeejay_FroYo_Revolution_v._1.6_S3. - Still the same problems.
I allready had the idea to reactivate PIN-auth but this option doesnt exist in my actual WM-OzDroid ROM.
Is there anyone experiencing the same problems or able to give me a hint in this case? I'am really not one of those persons "gimmie a new OS and I kill you if it doesnt work" - I know Android is work-in-progress but with all those superb fixes in past (lightsensor, compass etc) i cannot believe that a basic part like internet connection isnt working properly.
Thanks a lot for helping me out,
cmoe
RMNET
I think you'll find plenty of others who have had the same problem and some have had success with changing builds, kernels etc. There's plenty of stuff out there if you search on it.
I used to have data problems but switched to RMNET rather than PPP. You need to use a build that allows you to change this though and luckily for me, Bangsters 1.5 is such a build. It's not a sense build.
RMNET gets a bad press for it's speed, but to be honest it is perfectly ok for browsing the web. I leave all my downloading and updating till I'm on WiFi at home.
Regards your wifi issue, I have 'power control' widget on my homescreen and just switch WiFi off and on. Much easier than going into settings.

This might sound a bit noobish, but I was wondering if someone can recommend an android ROM which provides a stable data connection with the windows stock ROM WWE 3.14 (Radio 2.15.40) with SPL (not HSPL)
I'm currently using the mdeejay froyo sense (v2.4). The pain for me is that the 3G connection rarely works, even in areas with full bars, and the roamin data connection tends to drop out a fair bit as well despite full bars. I've tried rebooting, and that normally works but it is real pain to have to reboot on so many occasions (not to mention slow). I tried switchin to airplane mode and then switching the mobile network on again, but that doesn't seem to work.

[Q] best Android Version

I currently have the COre evo ver. 04 for android and love it. I am using simple mobile for service. My only gripe with this build is that my mms take forever to send and sometimes I don't get them. What in you guys' opinion is the best build?
I think it's all a question of tastes/features. For example, I don't use MMS, so your build according to your tastes would be perfect for me. But in my case, having a camera that doesn't work, a GPS that doesn't work well, etc. doesn't fly with me. Bluetooth I don't use, internet I hardly use...
When it comes to build stability though, for myself, even though I don't like sense, I use Froyo Revolution 1.6 with MDJ S4... It's fast, stable and everything for me works.
This question has been asked by alot of people alot of times and it doesn't always end well!
Just tryng to find something better than what I have
Thanks for the reply I'm just trying find a the most stable build with everything working . I use bluetooth, camera, internet, mms, gps, etc. Just about all the popular things. Just tring to find something better than what I have
In my opinion the best build till this time is MDJ FroYo Sense Clean v. 2.4 with MDJ S6.1 kernel because its the first build that i tried to use everyday without any problems. Camera, Music, no sod and very fast (with installed LauncherPro by myself).
Before this build I had been staying on CM6 for two weeks but there were no camera, no gps, bad internet connection with difficulties when press start (internet) button ON.
i recommend mccm. you almost don't need to add anything because it's already great, looks-wise, function-wise, apps-wise. none of that boring looks from other builds where you have to install some apps first to make it prettier. the main problem is data drops. but maybe you'll be luckier than me. or if it happens to you, just try changing kernel/radio or add some fixes, i don't know.

[Q] Non-n00b assistance required for running Android on the HD2

Hello all,
I have an O2 UK HD2 and I am trying to port across to Android. I already own a Dell Streak running 2.1 and i'd like 2.2 on my HD2.
I've read through a lot of post and believe I know enough to do this - but I am having recurring issues which I cannot seem to get around.
Before I got serious with this, I simply flashed a high version number radio and jumped right into the first android build I could download. The issues were the robotic voice and I cannot get an internet connection (although I have the 'H' icon continuously).
I read up, did some research and followed lots of instructions.
So far i've downloaded several 'android friendly' WinMo ROMS:
Energy.Leo.29005.Sense2.5.Dec.13
Energy.Leo.28244.Sense2.5.MaxSense.Nov.16
Miri_Steve0007_Elegancia_V1.0_CHT2_FINAL
Miri_Steve0007_EleganciaMaxSense_V5.0_FINAL
I have the following radios:
2.10.50.19_2
2_10_50_26
2_11_50_26
2_12_50_02_2
2_15_50_14
And the following android's:
FroyoStone_Sense_V3.2
SuperRAM_Froyo_v1
I've not got the time to swap and change radio/rom/android build 25 times just to find a working version - but needless to say the amount of swapping i've done so far is providing no change to my issues above.
I want my internet to work and I want no robot voice.
Does anyone know, from the list above, what selection of the 3 items do I need to get this to work once and for all?
Also, i'd prefer to be using the semi-recent stock ROM for O2 HD2 as I don't like custom ROMs, has anyone got android working on the stock O2 ROM?
Thanks in advance
Dan

same here.
Just a suggestion, try this mix (works for me giving 3-6mA standby):
Dutty v11 (Christmas ROM)
2.12.50.xx
mdeejay revolution 1.7
everything works.
Thank-you both.
I've just started a download of the 3.14 stock ROM build, as i've got a network .cab that should install my O2 network settings for me.
The lack of internet connectivity means the phone is useless in android mode, so i'm going to give it one last try once i've upgraded my stock ROM and see if I can't get it working. I doubt I will though, but at least i'll have the most up to date WM ROM going.
I assume your net connections simply 'worked'?
I don't think you need a stock Tom, but you definitely need different builds.
The froyostone 3.2 is a discontinued build and likely doesn't have the latest kernels, wrappers, patches etc that have greatly improved many peoples android experience.
on the other hand, superram is highly beta, and is in the process of being revised and improved by darkstone.
Basically you hit both ends of the spectrum in terms of maturity. Try a couple of other builds and see what happens. I recommend going with a build that uses hastarin 8.5+ as the kernel, buy only because for some reason mdjs kernels have never worked for me. Other people say very good things about it though.
One thing you should pay special attention to is the changelog. Usually this will indicate how far along (and how often) the build is being updated.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I know the stock ROM isn't a requirement, in fact i'm pretty sure it's almost detrimental - but i've spent 3 days faffing around with this and i'm literally having to go back to WinMo with nothing to show for my troubles.
Basically i'm upgrading to 3.14 now and trying android one last time, knowing full well it's probably not going to work but still, can't help trying can it. If it fails, at least i'm on the newest WinMo build, and i've still got my Dell Streak with a pending 2.2 upgrade at some point this week.

As far as stock, check out my set up. As far as wifi; it may be your APN and DNS settings, in any build when you change builds it changes settings.

Agreed with that, I've had a couple of builds that gave me no data, it was the provider settings that it selected in the first setup sequence. you can manually change them (the o2 webpage should have them, or try some of the o2 one from here: http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/wiki/APNlist) and you should be golden.
Try creating new APNs, deleting old ones

I can second that. I've had problems with numerous builds and APN settings. I personally found (after a lot of frustration) that double checking the the settings was not enough, rather I needed to add completely new APNs using the info from my provider. Apparently some of the settings were different when the APNs were added manually than the default ones (MCC, MNC?), which were not specified by the provider and I therefore could not check if correct with the original APNs, if you know what I mean. As for builds, I personally recommend JDMS or HD2ONE for a good combination of speed, reliability and functionality; I personally like some of the CyanogenMod features like the power bar in the status bar, menu button to unlock, etc. Good luck!
I'm currently trying out Ginger HD2 (Gingerbread themed build, but still 2.2). That was set to GiffGaff at first, but there were a couple of O2 ones in there and the first choice worked for me. I've had this in a couple of other builds too. I guess some builds come with plenty of APNs, and some come with none.
Definitely start there though.
sounds familure.im using energy Leo rom and a 2.15.50 radio and an mdj desire hd build, that work fine now, just make sure you disable htc sence in the winmo before you boot android, see if that works
Hi guys
Thanks for the replies above.
It would appear the Android builds I was using weren't giving me this 'APN' setup option, ironically I only just installed a build now that gives me the popup once it's read my SIM card to select a network - so now I know what you mean by APN, I think.
Anyway, i'm glad to report that I have stock 3.14WWE and an Android build w/sense working perfectly (I can't remember the name but it's none of the builds I listed in the OP), albeit if left overnight, has become a little laggy, but I don't care as a quick reboot sorted it this morning.
Thankyou all for your responses.
