can't lock phone with power button - Droid X General

I am unsure if it is just me or perhaps the update the other night, but now I am unable to lock the screen or turn off the screen with the power button. The only time I can do this is after the screen times out, I hit the power button to see the lock screen and then I can hit the power button again and it turns the screen back off. I thought it was launcherpro beta causing this, but I uninstalled and the stock motorola launcher isn't working either. Anyone else having this issue? I looked all in the settings to see if I changed something there, but didn't see anything.

anyone else having this issue or just me? If nobody else is having it I will try a factory reset.

Try a factory reset, after my OTA update I had some weird issues that were resolved by the reset.

Thanks I will have to give it a for try when I get home.

Power button glitch on stock DI18

I'm running a completely stock phone and unrooted. For some reason my power button stopped working properly yesterday. When I press it the screen won't turn off anymore. The only way to turn it off is to set the screen time out to a shorter interval. The only thing I can think of that I did before it stopped working was trying to take a screenshot by pressing the hardware back button and home key several times like it said in that thread. I also tried doing it with the backspace button and home button. I wonder if I hit some weird keyboard combo that disabled the power button screen shutoff. It will still give me th "power off/silent/airplane" options if I do a long press.

Okay, I fixed it. I don't know what originally caused the problem, but I manually updated all the system options: firmware, profile, PRL, and Android, even though there were no actual updates to download. Pressed the power button and it's back to normal.
Whew...I can change my timeout back to 30 minutes.

Nexus 4 not waking up (screen not coming on with power button)

Twice in the last 4 days now I have come to my phone pressed the power button to wake up my phone and nothing happens. Both times I have had to do a hardware restart with power and volume up pressed.
It has happened after it has been fully charged when I go to use it first thing in the morning. Probably not an alarm as it happened on Saturday first and there was no alarm set.
I know the phone was still on because on the second occasion the notification LED was not flashing but got no response.
My alarm never went off. I am fortunate that after the first time I questioned the reliability of the N4 and set my N7 as a second alarm.
Only App I have recently installed is Chrome Beta, uninstalled to be on the safe side.
Has anyone else had this issue, or got any idea what could be causing it!?
Fingers crossed 4.2.2 is real and it has fixes for this stuff!!!
Try doing a factory reset. Are you rooted? What kernel are you using?

Just stock factory. Very few apps installed as I don't use that many (browser for most things).
Could try factory reset...
while your screen is on and in the home screen, long press power button until you get presented with shut-down options, then long press the "power off" button until you're presented with "reboot to safe mode"
use your phone in safe mode for a day or two and see if the problem repeats itself.
if the problem does not repeat itself, that means an app you've installed has changed something.and is the cause of your problem.
Try press the volume button before press the power button to wake it up. I also encounter this problem occasionally and manage to turn the screen on with the volume down then power

[Solved] Nexus 7 Power Button

Hi all, I am having a very strange problem with the power button on my Nexus 7. The problem is that sometimes when I press the button the screen does not come on and I have to press it several times or I have to press it very hard to get the screen to come on. Pressing the power button to turn the screen off does not cause any problems though. The fact that the screen would turn off okay but not turn on made me think it was a software problem, but doing a factory reset or switching ROMs didn't help so maybe it is a hardware problem. It also happens in recovery mode (TWRP 2.6). I can turn the screen off and on rapidly with the power button with no problems, but once the screen is off for more than a few seconds it's hard to get it to come back on. I thought maybe it was sticking or something, but again I never have any problems turning the screen off. I bought the device used several months ago, but it was originally purchased over a year ago so I don't think warranty will cover it. I only noticed it start to do this in the past couple of weeks or so. Any suggestions on how to fix it? Here's what I tried:
1) Factory reset - No change after the factory reset
2) Flashing a different ROM. I was running stock rooted 4.3, also tried SmoothROM and cyanogenmod but get the same problems. Also have the same problem in recovery mode.
3) Opening the back case - didn't notice any physical problems with the button. Even when I press the little round metal button on the inside of the device that corresponds to the power button I get the same problem. It makes the normal clicking noise but nothing happens unless I press very hard.
Anyways, it's not the end of the world I just have to press the button very hard to get it to wake, but it is a bit annoying and would be nice to be able to fix it.
Update: Ok, this is strange, but I just did another factory reset and it seems to be better now. I'll keep you posted in case the problem returns.
Real strange!

Screen goes black and unable to come back on?

Hey guys, I've had this problem twice now where my screen goes black and can't come back on I've tried calling my number but nothing happens, my phone went out of battery then the screen came back on. Anyone else having this problem and know how to prevent it from happening again?
hold volume buttons + power to hard reset when that happens. Try factory resetting and removing any cases that are blocking the sensors.

Power and Volume buttons stopped working - Any possible fix?

As title states, restarted phone after updating and the power/volume buttons stopped working. I already requested an RMA but am curious as to anyone who has had a similar issue know of a way to solve/fix it. Only way I was able to get the phone out of the black screen was to do the O gesture to open the camera (Happy I had that enabled). I can currently use the phone but I am worried to let it die.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: I am more worried that if I were to get a replacement that this will just happen again and would then be stuck with it. Am I wrong to be worried?
I have just experienced this issue. Volume and power buttons don't work. What is going on?!?!? What did you end up doing sylv?
Same thing happened to me yesterday. It's a software issue, a simple reboot will fix it.
But how can you reboot without a button, you ask?
Go to settings -> Utilities-> Scheduled power on/off and set it to shutdown by itself. After it shuts down you'll be able to press the power button to turn it on.
