Droid X does have motoblur - Droid X General

Download system panel app and check the home app details. The process is called com.motorola.blur.home. So it does have blur after all. Lying ass motorola lol. Idc though this thing is still bad ass.

there was never a question that it was there. They've just thinned it out to make it less obtrusive. Some people referred to it as "ninja blur"

marketing reps are like politicians, they will take their limited knowledge of technical aspects and spin them into half-truths to suit their purposes.

I don't think HTC will, remember they gave away 5000 evos to developers months before the official launch. Lets why the EVO was rooted as soon as it was launched.

Milestone, same encrypted bootloader, no self destruct.
They have root, but no bootloader access. So they are now running custom bootloader that runs inside android, boot twice to get into custom rom

that blows, but its kinda like what microsoft did with the 360, they blew the efuses when you went to the newer dash to prevent you from jtagging them.

It's going to be interesting how all of this turns out. all of a sudden apple doesn't seem as evil next to motorola.

The efuse "self destruct" chip is in all omap3 phones INCLUDING the droid and milestone. The droid has a hacked bootloader and didn't go kaboom. Apparently this chip exists in all these phones but motorola does not actually utilize it (but they could hypothetically).
Now that being said, the milestone and droidx do have locked and encrypted bootloaders. I think they have a lot better chance of getting cracked now cuz there will be a lot more dev attention for the droidx than the milestone.
So no, the droidx will not go BOOM, you got sucked into the hype machine (don't feel bad I did too initially). Still glad I got an evo.
Edit: I will edit myself here with the caveat that motorola might have put a new, more sinister efuse into the droidx. Noone knows for sure until pictures of a bricked phone show up, and not even the most dedicated dev wants to brick his brand new phone on the first day lol.
I really haven't cared for Motorola's Android devices anyways. The Cliq (Dext) was clunky and didn't even go past the Cupcake update. The Droid (Milestone) just didn't feel right in my hands, and I didn't care for the four row physical keyboard rather than the five like on the G1. And now this on the Droid X? I'll be sticking with HTC for a while. They may be slow to update, what with Sense and all, but at least they're not doing crap like this.
I would like to see now those who returned the EVO a got the DroidX...

how aggravated do you get when people refer to android phones as "droid"?

IT PISSES ME OFF! like on a scale of 1-10, its an 8 for me. motorola is retarded for coming up with that catchphrase. now whenever i am playing with my epic, people say "ohh is that the droid for sprint"? and i say "NO ITS NOT CALLED 'DROID' ITS CALLED A SAMSUNG EPIC 4G. DROID IS A CATCHPHRASE, THE PHONE DOESNT RUN DROID, IT RUNS ANDROID!" sorry i am just ranting, but i know this annoys alot of other android lovers...
I'm not sure if it was Verizon's idea or Motorola to use the "Droid" brand, but every time you hear "Droid" on a Verizon commercial, George Lucas gets paid. Kind of ironic considering he uses an Iphone.

Verizon owns the name...because Droid Incredible and Droid Eris were made by HTC..Verizon spent 100 million on that campaign which really made android break a lot into the market...
That said it does tick me off when people say that..but I don't exactly flip out..I just explain to them that they are wrong and its called Android, and Droid is a marketing campaign by Verizon..and how the Epic is better then any Droid anyways lol
Well it's certainly wrong but it doesn't annoy me that badly. Sometimes if I'm trying to explain to somebody who isn't tech-savvy "Droid" is the only thing they can relate to.
It's really the same thing as Kleenex vs tissue, etc. Like it or not Verizon has created an extremely successful marketing campaign.

They don't own the name. "Droid" is a trademark of Lucasfilm industries. Verizon pays commission to use it. Which is one of many reasons why their customers pay $20-$30 more than us.

well, i had the VERY first android phone, the G1. so i know it as ANDROID. i think that people that got in the android business before the "droids" came out are a little more...strict when it comes to that catchphrase. that's why it irks me so much. ive had a G1, MT3G, HD2 running android, EVO, and an EPIC.

Motorola is listening guys! It may not happen with the X, 2, but I'm willing to bet the new moto phones will be more easy to manipulate. They see how it will hurt them in terms of future sales.
I really doubt it would hurt much when it comes to sales since a majority of Droid owners know nothing of the phones true potential. Although that was a crappy statement to make on motorola's part. As a consumer it really makes me think twice on what phone I will purchase next.

yeah its still up in the air to who the next nexus phone is going too.
Well I will probably get flack for this, but here goes. Before you get all happy about this aquisition by Google. Remember who Motorola has been in bed with for the better part of their phone "Greatness" , Verizon . The original we're going to throttle your data, you better not be tethering (even though your paying for unlimited) , if we can't charge you for it you can't do it, we're going to control everything you do on your phone carrier. So even though it's Google new company, the employees are still the old regime. With the old habits, especially the Executives. I'll always remember a quote from one of Verizon's press releases stating " the Companies bottom line is always the most important aspect in considerations involving customers" . I understand this true for any company. But to say it in a press release like that says a lot about how they perceive their customer base. Yes, I understand this is only my opinon
No flack here, you make avalid point

Wouldn't make sense. HTC makes great phones but do not have the large patent portfolio that Moto has built up over many years in the mobile industry.
^ Shift Faced
i live in seattle and googles from redmond, theyve been on the news about this quite a bit and theyve even said themselves they just wanted the patent portfolio to help in defending android and the developers against apple, microsoft and the rest of the other bull**** patent trolls.
I see where this will certainly help Google, and Motorola, with regards to patent lawsuits. But how will this help Samsung, and HTC? Is Google going to step in, and say "Get out of here, patent troll....check this out....PWNT!!!"

I'd imagine that since these patents are typically incredibly vague such as "scrolling menus" that if Apple sues HTC or Samsung over infringing on one of their vaguely worded patents then Google could jump in and brandish one of their equally vague patents and say that Google actually has the patent for it, not Apple.

just so yall know i didnt see a splash screen for this new motoroogle or googlerola or whatever you want lol (it has only been a day) so i decided to make one. I posted it on im.nick.hellos new thread for splash screens along with some others i made.
I just have to wait for him to convert them into splash img format and a flashable.
SO GO CHECK IT OUT
BTW: I hope im not hijacking the thread. I dont think i am because it is technically about the thread in a way. but if i am please set me straight!
Edit: In regards to the post above there is no real reason to buy HTC
1)they are doing great on there own
2) HTC would not give up sense and google would not want sense
3) HTC would be like 3X the amount that Motorola was
4)Motorola already had made the commitment to android and that was its sole operating system unlike HTC where they make phones for WP7 and Android.
4) Motorolas patent portfolio is much bigger
5) Motorolas not getting sued lol
Just my 2 cents theres probably other reasons too
Google did it for the Patents
I heard its to help cover their a$$ with apple lawsuits

I seem to notice many of the 'free apps of the day' have bad reviews because people CONSTANTLY complain about permissions. Always asking "why does this need SD card access, why does this need GPS" blah blah blah. Then they rate it 1 star.
It's rediculous.

No,launchers(Pro launcher,Zeam,GO,etc..) are just what the name implies. They are light and don't have big imprint on system resources.
Now Home Replacements while similar to Launchers use a lot more ram,cpu and battery.
Home Replacement is not just a launcher but complete android overhaul kinda like Sense,Twiz,Breeze UI etc..
I don't discourage people from using them because they offer a lot of visual eye candy but will drain your battery faster(in most cases). With GO Launcher you can get nice visual effects and good performance-i tried almost all of them and GO is the best i found,Zeam is nice too but don't look as good.
For those that wanna try Home Replacements there is Panda Home,Home++,LG Home,Metro UI just to name a few.
