I have tried to search the forum about how to install the 2.2 on the X10. Or even the 2.1
So my question is, if there's someone who know the easy way or if it is at all possible?
I am also wondering if the Fryo update for the Nexus one can be used, and then what with the SE functions, will the camera still work and at what resolution.

It IS fully rooted. 'Rooting' is when you gain linux 'root' permissions, and can do whatever you want with the system. It is even more so than with Windows, because you can't change the windows kernel, but you can with Linux, on which everything is run.
If you want a froyo rom, just wait. A method is probably being worked on jerpelea, Bin4ry, Maryland Cookie etc. In fact they are trying to get a custom kernel running which will allow us to do this. Just look at some of the threads on the X10 Android Development section.
I'm not as knowledgeable as the devs here, but I try to do some research so I can at least partly understand what is going on, and learn some things along the way.

That's why so many people still bought the iPhone 4, with it's signal problems. The problem is not terrible, but it shouldn't have happened - function should always be prioritised over form.

What annoys me the most is not whether you are an Iphone fan or not, but not researching and asking questions that are obviously, not answerable.
Does anyone really think that there is some secret society keeping everyone else from knowing if an upgrade is available? In this age of instant news, I bet the moment the X10's program loader is hacked, the news will instantly spread and custom roms will soon show up.
...and before people ask whether other phone's Roms can be used once the program loader is hacked, the answer is no. It takes a lot of experimentation just because of differences in the hardware.
I guess I am tired of reading this question over and over again.
I'm glad the x10 doesnt have a dedicated keyboard made the x1 far to chunky and i never used it. Anyone remember the full qwerty keyboard that you could plug into the bottom of the T18 & T28 it was quality

Well the X10 Mini Pro (with a hardware keyboard) is only like 1mm thicker than the regular Mini...

Who is with me?
With all the gripes that we have with this phone right now, including no 2.1 for a 8 months (by which time SE will launch a newer Android device and pay no attention to X10 owners) as well as multitouch, live wallpapers, hundreds of apps that dont run on anything less than 2.1 etc etc, I think its high time we hit SE where it hurts.
Bring on AMOLED, 512 MB RAM, native flash and 2.2 around the corner.
Who needs a 8MP camera. Seriously, all cameras on mobile phones are **** anyways.
The screen size is a tad smaller, but so is the phone (which is better in my books).
Any other reasons anyone can think of apart from the obvious?

The X10 is as advertised and I am happy with it as is.
Im sure you are all very happy with the device at hand and this is probably not the best forum for this topic, although I know of a lot of users here who feel the same way about the X10 and would be willing to move away.
If not now, than a couple of months down the line, you will all be singing the same tune when most of the apps stop offering upgrades on the 1.6 platform.
Everyone's opinion is welcome and a forum (any) is the perfect place to express it.
I respect your opinion and your reasoning as it does have merit.
For me, this is my first run on Android.
I like the SE UI and the apps are secondary to me.

To be very honest i think Desire and Nexus are both boring not so well designed phones. They´re geek phones with no aesthetics. X10 it´s way more sleek, elegant and big! Froyo will come as well to the X10... just patience my friends. Who know we get the phone rooted pretty soon...

seriously im getting tired of these "omg ive had it with this x10 gotta sell it" go ahead , no one really cares. coming from 2.1, i still dont care if the x10 is still 1.6, its fast,sexy and its just a phone! im all for root, and itll come. for now though people who dont sit at home all day in mommys basement are enjoying the x10.

anyway OP. i did the same yesterday, i bought the Nexus 1 tho. mainly because i never like the HTC interface and i figure that phones like nexus and motorolla droid are always faster to get updates " since i wont wait for htc to implement their software into the phone before updating.

Seriously just keep the x10 for now. Root will come sooner or later. You knew the x10 would come with 1. 6 then why did you buy it in the first place? If I have the patience to wait for 2. 1 or root then so does everyone else, unless you don't have a life and loaft around xda starting useless threads saying ur gonna sell your x10 for another phone. If so go ahead no one is stopping you. We don't need to know anything else. As far as I know this is the xperia x10 thread.

i'm going to be keeping the x10 for a while even after my nexus one gets here today.
i have faith in x10. but the phone seriously is limited by the OS. the nexus one's looks are a matter of opinion and mostly on taste. i love the way it looks but all the good features are on newer OS.
we all knew Android would be updated. but i don't think people expected the phone to have such a long wait for an update with an outdated OS. you get an android phone these days for the reason that the OS will only get better with updates. everyone sees the petition thread, right?
if OS didn't mean a thing and that it didn't have any issues for the X10, no one would be complaining.

I agree with miguelsantos1979.
1st Gen AMLOED screens are not overly impressive, my friend has the Desire and he struggles to see the screen in direct sun light.
If you want to change the handset, change it rather then write a post like a spoilt child
Well, assuming that people don't have the cash to switch to another phone when they are having a X10 is the most useless comment I read here since I became a member, it's not about having cash my friend, it's about what you expect from something you bought and if the product suits you or not.
Fortunately everyone is different, I like my X10 eventhough on my X1 I was able to make my own themes and tweaked whatever I wanted. Ashame some games can't be installed because of the fact it is still running on 1.6, but that's not worth getting another phone for me personally. I will wait for the updates, and as soon as SE comes with the update, there will be something new to complain about. That is how it works in this fastgrowing technology world we live in.
Another point can be not everyone goes so deep in their phones as we do, and for "normal" people the X10 is fantastic as it is. SE want to sell big with this phone, so making it to complicated scares of the average customer who just buys a phone based on the looks of it, and you have to admit, the first time you had the X10 in your hand, it was looking good
Just relax and take a beer after you bought yourself another phone

Sorry about the Title. The phone doesnt "suck" it is currently not to my liking. How long will it take before we can get our own 2.1 up and running. i just updated to the r20 build and its not much of an update really. not sure how sony thought this could hold people off
just got my x10, and after using a nexus one on 2.2 a samsung galaxy S this thing feels ancient. games dont run well the ui is super laggy and theres just a lack of features on this thing, mostly cause its running android 1.6. Am i doomed or are there some fixes to speed up the ui. now running adw which has helped the homescreen but i hate how the lockscreen has white text and a white unlock bar

The x10 does not suck at all dont know what your talking bout. Try adw launcher but first read the forums and update your firmware to the latest r2ba023 or 24. also use the htc keyboard mod along with adw and then tell us what u think.

I've used X10 & Desire but this is not the issue. There are hundreds threads about these kind of topics where people compare X10 with Galaxy , Desire etc. A lot of threads against X10 where people bashing X10. You should continue there
Isn't the reason kind of obvious? The X10 is running 1.6. Once the bootloader is hacked, you will be able to install Cyanogen, which should be snappy. Or you can wait for 2.1, which should come in a couple of months.

@ op Sony Ericsson is always slow to make software updates. I have owned 2 SE phones before the X10 and they have awesome hardware but always software issues.
The 2.1 update should speed things up and allow you to do more than what 1.6 allows.

This is more the response i was looking for. I was more or less asking how to make it better, just in my own unique way. Have people been reporting on the progress of the bootloader. the phones got great hardware, i like the screen i like all the other things people like. i just dont like the garbage software sony's left us with, if it has all the same components as a nexus one why shouldn't it preform just as well. Doesnt sony feel some sort of obligation to its customers to put the best possible product out there
Why don't you root it and than remove all the SE stuff? I recommend Titanium backup, with a push of a button you can remove any software that you want. I did this and i'm verry happy with my android device!

terribly sorry did not mean to come here and bash your phones. i meant it in a joking fashion didnt know people held their x10s so close to their hearts. but the issue is there is no update in sight. carriers havent announced any future updates and sony doesnt seem to be doing much either. Are there any custom firmwares yet that run a bit faster and change things like home unlock screen or different media player

the latest firmware is out, and you should be able to update through Sony Ericsson Update Service or PC Companion. Just go to the SE website and download software. Follow the instruction and update it, and you will see a big difference. Also Android 2.1 is coming for upgrade throught SE in Q3 or Q4, depending on the market region.
It is a good phone and you will love it once you got the update! cheers!

+1! I can understand the frustration, but don't get why people are selling their phones right now, that's just cutting your nose off to spite your face imo.
Well I got rid of mine because I've had enough of SE dragging their heels, I'm running 2.2 on my HD2 and its the best move I have made tbh.
I know SE already have my money, but I didn't see the point of sticking with something I wasn't happy with.
I know its only a phone at the end of the day and all the normal stuff worked, its just SE's policy on providing support, Ohh its ok the users who gave us there hard earned cash can wait for their update as we already have their cash.
I hope the devs can do somethin with the X10 as it is a cracking piece of kit and not worthy of running 1.6.

Here's a thought:
Instead of venting on this board where X10 users and hobbyist developers gather to exchange ideas why not send a wellformulated email to something like SE sales or SE's customer services? Most of us here have no connection to SE other than owning one of their phones. Some of us don't even have a choice and couldn't switch if we wanted to.
Coming here to vent won't really do anything other than piss people off which is kind of counter-productive. Even if some here agree with your views there's not a lot we can do other than trying to do the best we can with what we got.
If you hope to accomplish something or even get SE to recognize your problems then the best way is really to write a proper message to SE explaining your stance. It's a long-shot but there's always a chance that they will listen to the critique and act on it.
*****ing to us X10 users helps no one, most of us don't even care and it just takes up your time.
Just create a thread for all these complainers about leaving their phone yada yada yada. Simple.
I agree, if you don't like then leave and join other forum for the phone you want.
Most phone manufacturers are concern about making money and that is business so no choice.
Leave us alone here as there are some of us who still like our X10 including myself.

Yes, we like and love the phone not because it has updated OS but it is the phone hardware and specs which makes us attracted to it.
Even if the phone is updated with the latest OS like 2.2 or even 3.0 but the outlook of the phone don't look nice or the specs of the hardware is not advance, holding the phone don't makes us feel good as well.
It is the same like cars, even though your car is powerful but the design of the car do not look good, less people will buy it.

xt720 is nice but is older than X10.
Slowe CPU too.
And Motorola is locking their devices too.
If you want to switch, at least go to a HTC where you can play with them as much as you want.
The bad part, HTCs are ugly phones
I'm seling my X10 to go for a Captivate.
I know the camera is worse, but at least the bootloader is already hacked so CM6 is the way to go.

Calling them ugly is a bit harsh imo, non-descript is a better name for it. They're basic and they don't stand out. They're sort of like the VW Passat, the design is perfectly fine but also very forgettable at the same time.

I'm pretty sure all the features that were promised on the the box are working fine. Don't get confused with the ramblings you hear on the internet, they are the wants of users, not the promises of se.
I want features such as froyo, 16 million colours, flash etc. as much as anyone, but such things were never promised. And lack of 16 million colours isn't aproblem, you would be hard pressed to see the difference, unless you have a fascination with looking at colour gradients. And no multitouch, even though it has been denied as a feature countless times is a blessing. If there was multitouch you can say goodbye to using the phone one handed. Multitouch gestures are stupid, pointless and annoying.
So if you want to sell your phone, then godspeed to you. But please don't complain to other users that enjoy theirphone, just because you didn't research properly what this phone is capable of.
No offence intended, this is an open discussion and that is my point of view, if you can show evidence of broken promises then be my guest. Delay in 2.1 update doesn't count, release dates for software slip, its a fact of life. Deal with it.

Why do some people think others care if they got a new phone LOL. I bet the honeymoon will last no more then a few weeks with their new device, then they will complain about some issues they have with it.
Sony has made some stupid moves IMO but whatever company you go to the situation will be the same. At most you will get one major update and some bugfix updates.
I blew off alot of steam about how the 2.1 update wouldn't even include 16m colors...I then got really pissed about SE delaying our 2.1 update til October. I for sure said some things out of anger....but one thing I remember clearly is that I ditched a Nexus One running 2.2 (froyo) for my X10. I loved my Nexus One, it was truly amazing....but something about the X10 pulled me to it. I find with my X10 I love it more and enjoy it much more than the Nexus One. That said, I know SE pissed alot of people off..including myself....but there's no need to ditch a phone that you know you loved because SE delayed the update. Honestly look at it this way, is your phone going to die? will it not live for another month until 2.1? will you die? can you just give your phone the chance of running 2.1 before you are so quick to judge....maybe just MAYBE!! SE are being secretive about something in the update...maybe not. But I have a damn good feeling when 2.1 drops to the X10 some people will be coming back to it....because SE will get there **** together and really deliver on this. If im wrong, then you can flame me. People have just a little more patience for the update.

I will spam all possible forums regarding the next SE gadget.
It may be useless my small battle but.... the more people are aware of their shameful CS, the less sales should follow.

I agree. The whole firmware lockdown of a good smartphone is purely about future sales. The PSP-phone explains everything, eg. why Flash is not supported by long delayed 2.1.
Companies shouldn't get away with treating all users like idiots. More power to the hackers..
You should be happy that the X10 isnt bugridden like the GS. It was SEs first android phone and i think they did a commendable job. I am sure they have learnt and will treat us better the next time. All said, i love my X10.

Thanks, this is what I was trying to say, since English is not my first language, sometimes I even don't understand myself LOl.
I didn't buy the iPhone because of the many restrictions and others limitations.
I was happy, I still happy with the x10 ( I am just waiting for the good news from the dev) butI am furious with SE, there is nothing I can do to harm them but I can spread my experience, the smarter will know what other mobile to buy, the others... will feed the beast.

For god sake there human...
They are not robots and SE has procrastinated with this update because in all this time they couldn't have done such little and yet they did.
This thread should be locked/closed in my opinion because they have said that they learnt from there mistakes.

SE is acting like they are market share leaders instead of near the bottom. If someone asked me if the should get a SE phone unless it was dirt cheap I would say no.
I honestly don't know why people still complaining
First of all there is not a single help-desk that knows everything about products.
Second of all, X10i was their first Android OS, and yet if you looked at any device that used that O.S you will find a huge difference in terms of performance or stability.
And I do liked the fact they locked the bootloader ( yes I do ) because I always want to be different than others, look at all the other devices ( same menu same interface ) with a little difference in applications used.
plus if SE will skip 2.2 that means 3.0 will be released as soon as it is available in the market, in other words, SE will be the first to get it
You guys should hop over to the nexus one general section. It seems HTC has produced some horror stories too.

Hoping this forum just tell the truth. What so bad about x10 with 1.6. I my self is very satisfy. Although there are many improvement in 2.1. But just wait and patience.
Sometimes people are so funny. They compare x10 with another phone they don't really know. As I say... X10 is better than other phone and other brands. Really.
Just write and complain according to the truth. Don't spread rumor with nonsense.

This thread is a waste of 30 seconds of my life.
It sucks that i think my SGS2 is perfect as it is stock.No more spending hours here on XDA to see if someone finally made that rom,that makes my phone better.I remember the day´s when i had an HTC Diamond,funky little fone but kinda not what i had expected.Suddenly u could flash Windows Mobile 6.5 and the fone was like new!

got mine friday and spend this afternoon getting rid of the samsung crapware; this is my 6th android phone so i know what I use and what I want.
It surely was the easiest phone to alter; just had a few minutes to get used of odin but that was it!
Now waiting for cyanogenmod (my pref. by far) to get the flashing madness starting again
Ye i kind of miss it. Had a trinity and the Touch pro 2 both were pritty much unuasble stock after a few weeks. But the SG ii is just awsome, actually usable as a reliable phone lol
True, true. I've flashed my HTC Hero and Desire till the end with the newest of the newest roms.
I loved MIUI and Cyanogen, and anything else out of the ordinary. I just can't wait until these come to the SGSII (including a nice and easier recovery like Amonra or cwr). I just want to try the roms to see how they perform. I won't use MIUI that long, since I hate it's not available in my language.
Can't wait for the storm of custom roms this phone will have in the future

The sgs1 was definitely a victim of this. The sgs2 not so much.

i wudnt know how the sg1 fared since I didnt own it...sg2 is my first samsung...
Meh, I pulled my phone out to show it to a friend who is a die hard Apple fan. His immediate reaction was, "Wow, look at how big that screen is". Never once was their mention made of the resemblance of an iPhone.
As for the battery comment, go troll in another thread. There's only 1275838234 threads for battery whining.

You could say they look similar and they are in that:
they are rectangular (this is very rare on smartphones)
they are black - THIS IS EVEN more rare
it's slimmer = Steve Jobs is mad.
And yes the home button. But my Desire has 5 buttons. 4 are a "dull-er" silver and the middle button is a really nice circular patterned metal sliver - it's the button you see immediately over the others.
If you look at windows phones, they have the windows key which is centred with 2 other buttons around it.
GSII has a centre button that's rectangular, surrounded by two other buttons.
So yes they are similar, but they're also similar to many other phones.
Jobs clearly has a problem with the fact that the GSII bridges that gap (on looks) between "A chunky, but extremely powerfull" which only certain people get (who don't mind the looks) and the "sleek, slim look" that appeals to the common consumer.
It's exactly what Apple did many years ago, they combined power with looks and an "image" for the phone.
(I'm saying this because I speak from personal experience seeing as I had an N80, and N95) Absolute BEASTS but they were insanely chunky, but I really didn't care.)
this is my first android device. Ive recently defected from nokia after a long relationship with symbian and more recently maemo. But its gone all wrong at nokia. wp7 devices, no os support, just community support (not such a bad thing) and Tech which is 2 years out of date. Was going to hold out for a n950/n9 but thats old tech and would prob be going against the sgs3. Plus they have dumped intel and left meego going no where.....
Im happy ive jumped ship now...
This phone is very much a king of phones. I love it, only had it a couple of days and im fascinated.

the other problem with this Samsung is 'we have no idea what kind of updates they have made and compare to Htc they are not helping people to see it,they just say UPDATE and thats it,Htc always show the updates of what kind of bugs they have fixed and anything else' for shure this is my last time i buy from Samsung,hopefuly next year when my contract finishes there will be more competitions
