iPhone4 v Evo :) do watch - EVO 4G General

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FL7yD-0pqZg
Inappropriate language, so careful.

still funny

As a person that works in wireless retail and a store that doesn't carry the iPhone but does carry the EVO, I almost cried I was laughing so hard when my boss showed me this video a few days ago. So many people think that the iPhone is the holy grail of smartphones but it really isn't...
Sidenote: I'm a Mac user and I will NEVER go back to PC, but phone-wise I can't see myself leaving an Android device to go back to an iPhone (yeah I even had one before I left AT&T for a Sprint Hero.)

Just a: "Huh, that's funny"

Just a thought that came to me...
I was perusing some old posts about when the g1 came out. It seems funny to me that since the launch of the g1 and android, the people that loves the iphone (fanboys -- trying not to be flaming here - lol), How many comments about how this phone is going to die out soon and what not. I think back when the iphone came out and that was only just over 2 years ago, and the g1 is now only 3 months shy of its birthday, how many people bashed this phone.
I love this phone and most people at work would love to have one, but they aren't on t-mobile. They like what the capabilities of this phone will become and then some. I think that they were wrong to get rid of the keyboard, I like being able to type and the screen and not half hidden by a vk.
I think that the prices on the market are such that it will also bring people this this system (not just the phones). With what is coming out from the various manufactures that are makikng android phones, i think about the fact that there is only 2 phones available from the iphone....
I wonder how dead is this phone? If this OS came in a flip phone (because that is what my wife wants), then I will be more than happy to give her one. All in all, I will stick with android, not because i am a "fanboy", but because I believe in the magic of opensource and helping one another is what being human is about.
So, one last comment before I put my drunk ass to bed, dollars to doughnuts, this'll be around for awhile. I like both phones, they are basically the same under all the glitter. But, hey, everyone has a choice.
have a great 4th of july everyone, and if you are not from the USA, then I hope you have a great 4th of july also.

The phone isn't dead, it's because T-Mobile doesn't really give a crap about their phones enough to actually market them. They also don't care about you, the consumer. Honestly, all they care about is their bottom line.
Look at any call center. Many call centers constantly run competitions for CSR's to win some widget. Sell x amount of this brand of phone and win a prize.
Know what that means? When a consumer calls in wanting a Blackberry (or whatever), the CSR is going to do whatever they can to convince you to buy phone brand x because they want to win the widget, not because they give a damn about what phone would best suite you.
Tmobile actively encourages this kind of crap and they should be ashamed.
Very true. Back in Jan someone I know went to tmo asking about the g1. The rep told him it sucks buy a blackberry, (the flip one.. pearl maybe? I dunno). That was the craziest thing I have ever heard. Bb > android? Is this guy high?.. lol needless to say he has since returned and purchased the g1 after talking to me. I just thought this to be insane.

Before android there was...

Well out of curiosity before android where did most of you come from? I myself previously had windows and sidekick devices. I want to know why you made the change if you guys want to discuss it and what you miss about your former platform... For example, Blackberry users might miss all the push email ... I have a friend who has a blackberry and he seems to think he cannot have a good experience with android because it doesn't automatically support push for other email accounts... any one went through the same thing?
Well you can tell your friedn that android does support push now.
I used to be on the old Symbian 60 platform on Nokia smart phones, Nokia N-Gage QD to be exact. That is where my lust for smart phones kicked off.
Before Android I used to be a smartphone virgin. I always went with whatever "free" (read: heavily subsidized) handset the carrier was offering with the 2-year subscriptions. Once I had a chance to play with a co-worker's G1, I knew what my next phone would be.
As fate would have it my crappy flip-phone died a few months back. I went to a local retailer, shelled out the full $400 for an unlocked G1, added the $15 basic data plan to my AT&T account, and never looked back.
Came from...
Sanyos
Audiovox9800(best phone verizon EVER had)
Treo 600
Treo 650
BB
Ocean(Used to work at Helio)
Shadow(had for 2 days!! hate that keyboard!!!)
7Dashes(Kept screwing up)
Wing
My baby(G1)
lame phones!
Well to be honest the g1 is my first smart phone. B4 that I had mid line phones. U know not cheap but not expensive. I wanted an iPhone but when I say the promo site for it I reserved it for the partial discount price. But as fate would have it I had to cancel. See I have a oil heater at home and we all know its expensive to fill up. So I was sad for a bit but after seeing 2 of my friends with the g1 I said wth and ordered it again. And this time tmo gave me the full discount because I have been a costomer for over 8 years! When I got it I fell in love. **** the iphone. LONG LIVE ANDROID!
first smartphone was
Blackberry pearl 8100 tmobile(scroll ball problems)
tmobile wing(water damage)
tmobile shadow(cracked screen)
unlocked 8525(screen went white)
unlocked tilt (8925) with duttythroy rom loaded up(sold it for 150 and walked back into the mall and said i wanted to upgrade to g1 =)
and now g1 with 2.7.3 jachero.
when i had my tilt, i missed the blackberry push email and the trackball.dpad gets annoying at times.
but i love the skyfire browser and vtap on windowsmobile.. vtap on android kinda blows since it only looking up youtube vids.. and flash content on the skyfire browser was a beaut. i wish the hero rom flash capabilities could compare to skyfire =(
The T-Mobile Shadow. The Original, not that new one.
This is the "friend" he spoke off on the first post..
This is the real issue down here: read what I wrote below.
I'm not sick of BlackBerry (BB). I love the whole package.
But I would like to have other options and recently I've noticed that WinMo/Android and basically no other operating system comes with the whole package as well integrated as a BB. And this is bothersome to me because at this rate I'm stuck with BB.
Guys is it possible to have at least 5 email accounts setup on a Android device (or WinMo)? Will it work as good as my BB does (AKA. Push E-mail)?
If not then what steps can I take to acquire said features (on an Android or WinMo device)? I'm willing to pay a MAX monthly fee of $30 if I have to. Which is what I'm actually paying BB at the moment for the whole "BlackBerry" thing.

By the way I don't think I won't have a good experience with Android. I've seen what the OS and UI behave like. I like it.
Read my post above and U'll understand what this is about. It's about me becoming so organized that I refuse to leave this unless I'm 100% sure there is a equal substitute in the platform I'm going to.
went from
some random samsung phone (one of those really ghetto clamshell ones that refuse to break)
to a nokia 6265, which was a great phone, but it got stolen
to a moto krzr red, the only one that was impossible to hack T.T
to a samsung sgh-d807, which i found on the ground in the snow after my krzr's screen cracked,
to my rogers htc dream

This, minus the unlocked G1/ATT. Got it for my birthday in November.
first I had random samsungs and lg's just for the camera's and cool ringtones.
moved to an audiovox smt 5600( i think it was actually an Htc) coolest cheap phone ever!
samsung black jack... sucked couldnt even watch movies on it.
2g iphone ..no mms and no video recorder mode until modded. I hated the fact that apple had so much control.
Now loving the G1
Well I've been through several smartphones, lets see: 1) nokia 3620 2) htc c500 3) htc c600 4) htc dream. Definitely like android more than winmo or s60. I've also played with a few blackberry pearls and detested them, reminds me of the crappy symbian interface without the flexibility. As far as the gentleman wondering about push email on android. Set the gmail account to retrieve emails from your other accounts via pop, if you wish it can leave them on the other mail servers or delete them. Once the mail shows up in gmail it will push to your phone.
Early motorola phone (Dont remember I was 18 with money and influenced by a mall guy ) I never got my free case for it.
Nokia device (liked it cause of the big screen on the outside and could have pics there)
Motorola RAZR V3 Miami Ink Edition (one with dragon on it) I liked this phone and it was a true trooper. A lot of people were having issues with it being so fragile but I beat mine up and it took it with a passion.
And finally my G1. Actually the real reason I wanted it was cause of the Open Source that it featured but I am sure that I was not the only one out there. I will say this I wanted this phone cause I do webdesign and I figured that I could be different from the whole BB society. My only pep peeve is the kids that get the phone for the trend factor and not the modding factor but I guess thats just me
Came from the BB pearl. Greatest choice I've ever made other then beer.
my smart phone life started on a Nokia 6682, but i quickly upgraded to an 8525, and then the tilt the day it camem out. i can't stand to have a non-touch screen phone anymore so i went to t-mo and got the G1, bit of a downgrade on my service as now i only have EDGE but hopefully i can get back to 3G soon. the only way to get me to even look at a phone is to tell me it has a touchscreen and a full hardware qwerty keyboard, i don't care if it's a 4-row or 5-row, but i am liking the keyboard on this phone
I've only had 3 cell phones in my life so far, my first cell phone was the Sanyo SCP-8200 in silver, my second was the Nokia 5610 in white and now I have my very first smart phone...the T-Mobile G1 in white. I made the change because I saw potential in the G1 to be the best and I don't usually ride the band wagon because it's new and everybody's getting it but if it's official and exclusive like the G1 then I'm riding it to the mothasucking wheels fall off but what I do miss from my former cell phones was camera flash.
First phone was a skytel on nextel, then had a grayscale blue moto with a flip up keyboard (forget the name), then v3, v3i, v8 (or something like that merlot slide phone similar to v9), g1.
Before android i had a windows phone the shadow to be exact the original one not that new round one before that i was a samsung fan

Got all the family on android!!

lol, I am a huge Android fan, and I hate anything apple related, I just got my whole family to get an android phone, lol, it was hard convincing them, what have you done to help android???

Got my dad and step mom away from their iphones that were crazy expensive and both into EVO's. Convinced 4 in my workspace that Android is the way to go and so they all got one (Droid X, Captivate's, G2).
I've convinced about 6 co-workers and my wife to get androids.
Sent from my EVO 3G
got both my parents, 2 sisters, one of their boyfriends, 3 cousins, 2aunts, 1 grandparent, 3 good friends.... most have evo's and the others are droids or droid x
My wife is now android, a co-worker converted from BB to android, and another just played with my Evo and is considering switching to android. He's going to stick w/ AT & T, but will likely be going android. His kids need to see the Disney site which is full of flash and the iPhone only version sucks. (way to go Jobs!)
House full of Androids
Sent From My HTC Evo 4G Using Tapa Talk Pro!
everyone in the house is on androids ! ive converted about 30 people at work and about 10 other family members
Am I crazy to get my 11 year old android?
I am probably getting her an optimus. Anyone know if Sprint has parental controls?

When I got my evo I gave my daughter my hero and for Christmas this year I got my 10 year old an optimus s. (Gotta say it is pretty responsive for what it is)
got my father and mother in law into heros and my father in law upgraded his hero to an EVO. Got my receptionist to switch her whole family, not only to android, but to sprint as well. Thats 4 lines. I am still working on my over paying Iphone sister and brother in laws but they are just dumb anyway.
got my uncle, friend, cousin, and me all running android. android FTW!
more to add soon Im sure.
I converted my sister from a blackberry... but she chose the droid x instead. I didnt really have to do much convincing at work. One day when our network went down and no one could work.. I cut on wifi tether with a 10 meg 4G connection and well.. it pretty much spoke for itself. There are 3 evo users in here now and the rest are mainly holding on to blackberries because the job pays for em. I have one too but after I leave the office it stays in the car.
Got my mom to get a galaxy tab to see the wonders of android. But she won't ditch her bb until Sprint gets a android phone that is a world phone. We are travel agents and travel alot and use our cells for alot of business so she wants a cell that is a world phone and works everywhere. I have no issues with my Evo when traveling but I haven't used it in europe yet either.
Sent from my glorious Galaxy tab
I upgraded to the Evo and gave my girlfriend my Hero. House full of Androids, indeed.
Too funny!
I have converted:
My girlfriend and her mom
Both of my parents
All 3 of my sisters and one of their boyfriends
About 10 co-workers
ANDROID FTW!!!
I got your mom on android.
Sent from your moms house
I have about 23 family members and 12 co workers who have all went to android.

[Q] (Q) Any friends switched to WP7 after seeing yours.

I've been using my Focus for a few weeks now and absolutely love it. WP7 obviously needs more features and settings, but MS will be cranking those out soon.
A friend of mine really liked the phone and bought the LG Quantum WP7 and she is very happy with it. When she upgraded her phone, everyone at work was telling her to get an iPhone. Talk about peer pressure! I was surprised that she said no way and wanted a WP7 phone instead after seeing mine.
I've even got some compliments from iPhone users, mainly on how quick and smooth the OS feels.
Time will tell but WP7 is definitely here to stay.

Same happened to me, even Iphone 3GS users felt very tempted to switch to WP7... I have a Focus.
I traded for my Focus (iP4). I have a friend that says they are going to WP7 when their upgrade comes around.
My boyfriend got a Focus after I got mine. He said because, "You look like you really are in love with that phone" (with an eye roll)
But I don't know how much it counts because I let him use my get-one-free from AT&T, so he didn't pay anything for it.
I was following WP7 for 4 months before it came out. I got the Focus the first day and the O/S has exceeded my expectations. Second day I had one sold to my lady friend after she saw mine. A friend of my friend saw hers and bought one the 3rd day. My wife has never had a smart phone and use to be intimated but now in 1 month will buy a Focus after using mine. I believe we are some of the best salesman and women and showing others the smooth O/S sells units. If Microsoft was smart they would give owners incentives to show the phone and compensate people in some manner. I exactly felt the sales initially would be slow but the more peeps that get them in their hands the more friends that will be exposed and that will drive a faster and sustained market share
Also, I have found that turning on Birdy Bounce and passing the phone around does wonders. My whole family went retarded over it this weekend. Dad had problems accidentally activating the capacitive Bing button, though.
We are passing them around to Android and iPhone users at work for test runs. After they use the phone for the day, we're having trouble getting them back. We've been using the Focus and the HTC Surround in that testing. The Focus is far and away the Favorite. If Verizon comes out with the HTC Trophy like they are targeting in January, we may start rolling WP7 out to users who want it on Verizon. I can't roll out the Focus until we get a few SD cards that are certified to work. 8GB isn't enough for folks who have music. 16GB in the Trophy should be enough to start. it would be great if Samsung came out with a CDMA focus with at least 16GB on the phone or a certified SD card preinstalled.
On the SD card thing, I have used Sandisk 16gb Class 2 and 4 and they both work somewhat. After two weeks or so i started having some minor issues. Nothing like the 32GB gave me but I would see perhaps one or two soft resets a day. . that is why I can't recommend the Focus yet for my users. Focus ran great with only the base 8gb in the unit. No resets at all. But I need the extra space for my music library.
Blizzard
So after a day at work (8-4:30) I drove my friends (carpooling) to Severance Hall in Cleveland, OH. We set out at 5pm and arrived at the Hall at 9pm due to the snow.
At the end of the concert (10pm), we drove home and arrived home at 1am in the morning - it made for a very long day and a very long drive that normally takes about 40 minutes.
The crux of the story is this, in the carpool, four of us have an iPhone 4 and I have the Focus. Everyone's iPhone died on the way to the concert (no battery). Therefore, since the journey home was taking so long, everybody in the carpool borrowed my phone to call home and talk to their families. Everyone was extremely impressed at the responsiveness of the Focus and Windows Phone 7 - they absolutely loved it. They commented on the fluidity of the OS, the ease of use (I didn't tell anyone how to use the Phone - they figured it out themselves).
They asked hundreds of questions, used the internet, etc. etc. They were thoroughly impressed with the Phone.
The one thing that everyone agreed on and kept commenting on was ease of use - and I have to agree, it's a very easy to use OS.
Well done Microsoft.
M
ps. My phone died at 1:10am, it was a day of light to medium use (I know that's highly subjective....)
Two friends were due for upgrade along with me (I was due for 4 months but waiting for WP7) and after using my Focus they instantly got one each (surrounds - it was free!).
Both were upgrading from dumbPhones.
all my friends are poor and have no phone upgrades
but they all like the samsung focus
my phone is constantly being borrowed when im somewhere
My wife switch from iphone, and is very happy so far. Her iPhone is not going back to her purse any more.
She enjoy the integration of the social network, the keyboard, the great image and colors of the Samsung Focus
My in-laws liked my focus so much, they bought a pair of of the LG's, cause they wanted keyboards. Btw, they are big mac fans.

Are you not afraid your wife will either read this post or ask your friend who your (boom chicka bow wow) "Lady Friend" is and you will be in big trouble?
Yes, I keep catching my wife looking over my shoulder. She's on the iPhone 4. I have to admit, the iPhone 4 is a VERY nice phone (after Jailbreaking), but I didn't want to fall into the Apple Trap . I've handed the Focus to her to use, and she's quite impressed also. It's smooth and easy to run. Screen is very impressive.
My girl is now tyring to Bogart my focus. She wants me to use her iPhone 3GS. Now I just traded my iP4 to get the Focus last week. No way is she getting my Focus. Gonna find her a deal online somewhere, so we'll have one more people on the WP7 team!
IMHO anyone who uses WP7 for atleast 10 mins will love it. I just showed it to one of my friends who was lecturing me for not buying an iP4 instead and even he loved it.
I think word of mouth is really the best way to promote WP7. So plz guys/gals show your WP7 device to as many people possible.
Whole family.
My mother bought one on my recommendation (Android to comples for her, iPhone too fragile for her). Loves the integrated voice command.
Father saw it at Thanksgiving and wondered why she got it. Later in the day he was wondering what the Knicks score was, brother stepped up to my mother's phone and said, "Knicks score" and up it came. Bowled my father away, and he bought one.
Brother and sister-in-law loved it too. They are getting one. My son, well, he is a Sprint fan and is waiting for them to carry it. As for me, couldn't wait. Got the Focus - love it.
Since then, showed a friend, and he and his wife got the LG - he loves the keyboard. She's a Mac person, but seems to be warming up to it.

Respect to New Phones and to The Old Phones

Of all the smartphones i have had starting with the Treo 750, The HTC Apache, The HTC Touch Diamond, The HTC HD2, and now The HTC Inspire 4G, i never thought i would ever own a smartphone, sitting in high school staring at the hot girl in school texting in class with her beast of a phone back then, The Palm Treo 750...liked it so much i went out and saved over the summer and bought my first smartphone. I loved that thing it was so cool i could surf the web and check my myspace and email, i didn't think anything could be better...then comes the Apache with the new windows mobile and a slide out keyboard loved that phone, sit in class and download the remote app and screw with the teachers tv (that was fun) and yet still did not believe that a phone could get better, then changed carriers and Alltel at the time would not take my Apache and activate it ( later found out that i just didn't talk to the right agent) so i decided i would buy the HTC Touch Diamond and man before i bought this i did the research i went online and looked at the phone every night and decided to get it, with windows mobile 6.1 and the steel frame, the touch screen with Touch-Flo 3D, still could feel like it could get any better and then came my longest lasting phone i have EVER had The HTC HD2, now this phone i had to be talked into, there were android phones coming out and i was kinda excited about them and was going to hold off for awhile, but my neighbor was all telling me about it and i just couldn't do it, for one it was to big and by this time i was tired of the OLD windows OS and couldn't do it again...so i passed on the phone, and waited....well one night i was online and looking at phones and checking XDA, i seen a deal on T-Mobile for the HD2 for free, now the phone had my attention and decided to buy it because i was reading about the hacks to get Android on the device...and no sooner did i get the phone in the mail and unlocked it and put android on it i was sold this phone was god, (i bought this a month after it was released)...this phone i had since 02/10--04-2011 was my favorite phone to date, every night there would be a update from a developer and every night my phone would get that much better and before its' demise it was running just as good as ANY original (android phone if not better)...i got addicted to flashing and reflashing...then one drunk Saturday night i left the phone on the railing of the third floor of apartment balcony above the parking lot, and i dropped it....went down to get it and the phone was on AND THE SCREEN WAS NOT CRACKED OR SCRATCHED, went to push the botom buttons and they didnt work....took it apart and the button ribbon was broke...so i decided after that i would get a new phone and go with AT&T since T-Mobile most likely will come to be one with the force here soon and i bought the Inspire 4G for $99, and have had that phone for a week and am running gingersense on it and.............Thinking what could get better then this.....
so the whole point on this loooong story is you love your phones when you have them and when you think something can't get any better it does and the cycle continues, so don't hate your old phones they were just a step on the ladder to get to the top....BTW didn't realize this but all the devices i mentioned are all made by none other then HTC, including the Palm Treo 750, imagine that?????
good story. i do too have the htc inspire but the unlock version the htc desire hd. its a nice device with alot of cuztomize widget. cant wait to get the htc evo 3d this summer.
but i wish...my HD2 can control tv's and dvd players

Redeye is a popular app & hardware dongle for Apple products, but they've also said in their FAQ that they are trying for Android version sometime this year. http://thinkflood.com/support/redeye/faqs/ (near bottom)
There's a few other brands for Apple, but none have mentioned android versions.
