I guess the real question is:
For those with custom ROMs, aka AOSP-FROYO TEST, Flipz and Damage, will this affect the ROM structure?

my guess is it will. I hope not beacuse i love my root

For those who are rooted, DO NOT UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whatever ROM you are running be it stock, or custom, there will be a custom ROM made that incorporates this update so that you won't lose root. If you accept the update there is a possibility you will lose root and will never be able to get it back. If you are willing to lose root then go ahead and update.

Let's not jump to conclusions now, with every OTA that was released thus far people were saying the same things about losing root. I've updated to the newest so far and nope, nothing. Don't worry to those of you who don't have much daredevil blood in them, I would be more than happy to be guinea pig for this next update and report back.

Getting back on topic, I am happy for the update. My Exchange 2010 calendar wont sync, and I dont care very much for the look/feel of touchdown (though it does work for me)
Cant wait for this

My calendar for exchange syncs fine. Looking forward to Froyo though!

You are likely not on Exchange 2010, then. This issue has been acknowledged by Google. They claimed that it was fixed in 2.2, so am a bit surprised HTC got it working for 2.1.

I agree with Swaze; the majority of us should curb our itch to upgrade OTA and wait for a rooted build of this new stock rom to hit the forums. Supersonic_1.32.651.6_rooted was made available within a day of the last OTA.
I'll probably try to update my girlfriends phone first to see what happens

OP wheres your source?

So is this FW update available anywhere yet or do we have to wait for the OTA on 6/28?

You don't lose root permanently, just flash using an older ruu. Idk why peopl think that :/

actually i never saw this on Engadget but my source is an my internal sprint tech that is assigned to our business account. I did find the article that was posted yesterday on engadget with the screen shot and my sources info was pretty close to that screen shot but a bit different.
Its all good i am not looking for any credit or to try and start any rumors i was just simply posting some info i got from my source and if its true then so be it, if it isnt then so be it as well. I personally am rooted and really dont care about this update. I am waiting for 2.2 which will be a big deal. My buddy at work has it on his nexus one and it smokes the EVO in the quardant benchmark tests an is very smooth.

It does.
But after I played around with it, I found that I disliked the look/feel of the tool. I disabled the mail/contacts/tasks function, and only use the calendar part.

Official T-Mobile USA HD2 ROM Upgrade! - [2.13.531.1]

Here are a few links with information (including the HTC website download mirror) regarding the official update from T-Mobile USA, courteously provided by: Pocket Now!
Upgrade Announcement!
ROM Information!
I will most likely be applying this update within the next few days. Although, I'm a little hesitant just because I figure that certain, "Manila modifications" won't operate properly on this upgraded T-Mobile USA version... NOT YET ANYWAY!
Thanks,
Downloading
Install new ROM and restore from Sprite
I plan to install the new official ROM and then do a full restore from a Sprite backup that I will have done while on the old ROM.
Will that work
Do I need to do anything different with Sprite or is it just a normal restore
Thanks for any advice.
I have downloaded this version and installed it...i think its slow and it lags. so i got rid of it and i flashed back old one.

I wouldn't advise that...
Just go ahead and perform the usual steps of "starting fresh."
It's not worth risking any system "tainting" that could occur in the process of another system recovery from a different ROM image.
Besides, if you don't think the update is worth performing in the first place, stick with your current setup.

Really?
Most everyone that has provided a testimony for "TmoNews" has suggested that only improvements are noticed... nothing negative to report.
I would suggest that you CLEAR/CLEAN the RAM after the installation. Use a program such as Memory Maid to run a few system maintenance diagnostics.
Otherwise, give this "new" ROM time to "settle" on your device. 24-hour tests are usually the best idea.
I have installed the new ROM. Things are very similar to way they were before. Didn't feel HD2 getting faster or slower. However, I have a strange problem now: Right now I don't have a data plan so I'm using my WiFi connection to get to the internet. One of the first apps I installed after flashing the new ROM is Omarket. Few hours ago, i.e. before flashing the ROM, Omarket was working fine but now it cannot connect to internet! Opera mobile works fine though (I downloaded Omarket with it!). There are other strange things going on as well: I have an MS exchange account. I can sync my emails over WiFi but contacts do not get synced! It seems that somehow some programs can use WiFi and some others cannot. Couldn't figure out what's going on yet...
Any changelog ?

UPDATE CHANGELOG! (Personal Analysis)
Here are a few changes that I've noticed since upgrading to this ROM yesterday evening:
The HTC Sense menus no longer have the "snap back" feature.
The overall screen sensitivity has been increased.
HTC Peep, the standard Twitter client appears to be completely removed.
The lock screen no longer "stutters" (on occasion) during the "slide to unlock."
Upgraded radio, including the version number.
Upgraded ROM, including the build number.
"T-Mobile Help," the micro-forums application has been included.
"My Account" has been included, with a more "feature-rich" experience.
"Swype" now has HAPTIC FEEDBACK, whereas my version of Swype did NOT prior to this update.

I saw on the Freeware Pocket PC twitter that they where having problems with the OMarket, Maybe this is what you where experiencing. Did the regular market work?
Haptic feedback on Swype.... interesting.
How well does Swype work for holding down a key to get the alternate symbol (like numbers & punctuation). On mine you can hold if down for days and never get the popup - I had to install version 2 to make it work.
BTW - I think I like the layout for version 2's symbols better, especially the numbers, but might be interesting to try out this Rom after enough people give feedback on it.
Missing Twitter tab would be... odd.
Why is this release coming from a HTC web site rather than T-Mo? I'm thinking of upgrading but dread going back through all the settings.

This problem appears to have been fixed in the new ROM.
One thing I noticed is that the new T-Mobile Help app hooks into the dialer and hijacks attempts to dial 611. Dialing 611 brings up the help app and then eventually the phone may dial 611 itself later.
The whole effect is... bizarre and unwelcome.
I cant get the My account or Help application to work. When I click the icon it shows me the initial screen and says "the my account application will be downloaded shortly" and just sits there. Did I somehow mis-flash the rom? I can't imagine this is the case.

Because the phone was created and manufactured by HTC. Just like Apple releases the updates for its iPhone; not AT&T.

my account application works fine on my hd2. overall, the updated rom seems to run a lot smoother. however, i still get the lag in sms but the freezing issues (to the point where i had to take out the battery once or every other day during sms) seem to be gone.

Possible to port the new Gmail app to our Vibrant?

The new Gmail app looks pretty slick. Would this require an entirely new ROM with the newer Gmail version, as presumably Gmail is so integrated with the sytem. Or, would it be a simple matter of extracting removing some files with root access and installing the new Gmail app (apk).
where have you seen new app for gmail ?
Yea, what are you talking about? The only new thing in Gmail I know about is the Priority Inbox, thats is browser only though, for right now at least.
Yeah, I can't seem to find it now.
I did come across it on one of the blogs I believe a while back. I think it was pulled from one of the recent ROMs. The reply buttons were at the top (no need to scroll to bottom) and other minor improvements were present.
Will let you know if I find it.
http://www.goodandevo.net/2010/08/updated-gmail-app-version-221-brings-improvements-to-htc-evo.html
and here is the apk:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7597129&postcount=11
I haven't tried the newer app, as I'm sure you would need to root access to overwrite the existing, and even, I'm quite sure something would break.
Alright, so whos going to flash it and see if it breaks anything lol? Come on we need a tester
I just read in that thread it only works for Android 2.2. But, no one has tried it yet to my knowledge using 2.1.
The gmail app was one of the new features of 2.2. I wouldn't try it on 2.1. Most importantly it includes copying text from an email.
It is just another thing we have to wait for in 2.2.
Patience is everything especially if it means you could possibly brick your phone. Gmail is the least of my worried when it comes to this phone so I don't care if it works or not.
Received a parse error upon trying to install it.

Kies Mini Specifically for Vibrant... and JI6 update instructions from Samsung

Samsung officially releases the JI6 Manual update through KIES MINI FOR VIBRANT.
goo.gl/jiL4
The link has instructions and download link for Kies Mini.
This Kies version is specifically made for US Version Vibrant.
And this Kies right now supports only one function - To update to JI6. (looks like they wanted to make a point)
Well if this for real and it kind of looks like it, it makes sense to keep Samsung apps not compeating with a possible tmoble app store, it protects Tmobile's bandwidth with no Kies tethering and it would be possibly a better way to roll out Froyo in the future than an OTA.
Not mention the piece of bull turd Kies is as software. And the seemingly many peaple with OTA problems and those who just can't wait for an OTA.
Did Samsung and Tmobile do somthing good? Not sure.
Edit:
Follow all instructions and read threads!... and read threads! This list is from me reading threads, I am not a Mod, I am nobody. THIS NOT A COMPLETE LIST just some known issues:
1. It seems you need stock JFD firmware to update, some flashed mods seem to be no problem, but they will be lost. You can get them back but use JI6 version mods.
2. uninstall all lag fixes. NO UPDATES WORK WITH LAG FIXES!
3. You will likely loose root but can get it back.
4. Some have had to use Usb debugging mode or Kies mode to have phone recognized by Kies mini.
5. uninstall all previous Kies software. Before installing Kies Mini.
6. Some report if you use it, to switch from Launcher Pro to stock launcher for Kies to work properly.
7. And allways back up your stuff prior to doing anything like this.
Again, this is not a compleat list... just trying to answer the same questions over and over again.... SHEESH
Good luck,
Don

I just finished updating with this..
Samsung finally has answered our calls!!
I updated from Stock to JI6 in 5 minutes with just one button click.
Not only this is very easy, this comes from SAMSUNG...
Looks like even Samsung is fed up with T-Mobile... They don't want to spoil their phone's reputation any more and are taking things in their hand..
This is the kind of communication that should come from tmo or samsung. Sure this link is out there but it is not advertised publicly...hell I cant even get to that link from tmo or samsung...
Let's hope it doesn't have the same issue as the full Kies - Could not apply new firmware.
Tried running this on my Win 7 64bit box and Kies Mini just crashes every time. According to the site it only supports 32bit windows. Anyone had luck with 64bit box?
update: Tried it on my Win 7 Ult 64bit laptop and worked like a charm.
Just for grins, I tried this out after flashing back to stock. Worked perfectly on my Win7 Home Premimum 64bit. Haven't done any real testing but did a quick look for Slinbox and Fandango on Market and found both.
trying this now, I was unable to get kies to recognize my phone.

I wonder if they released this now to get everything worked out so we can update to 2.2 and avoid the hassle of waiting for OTA's in the future. It would be easier on us and them. Looks like a step in the right direction.

There must still be a reg entry that identifies the phone as a HD2. When my phone rebooted during the update, my PC found new hardware and the pop up said "LEO"

I really hope that someone get on top of this update pretty soon so that we can all enjoy the update on our HD2, tadaaaaa........
My phone just rebooted itself and now it won't boot up at all. Shows the HTC screen and vibrates then turns off. I wonder if this has anything to do with the failed update
i keep getting registry error.. guess MS will only tolerate so much
but my hd2 still boots and runs fabulously...no complaints...best os out there
Hopefully my problem is unrelated to the failed update. I can't believe people are still trying it. It WON'T work! Don't even bother.

There is nothing in this 'update' which should excite us.
This first update for Windows Phone is designed to improve the software update process itself. It’s only paving the way for all future goodie-filled updates to your phone, such as copy and paste or improved Marketplace search.
P.S. to those who have reported problems with the phone after the update I can only say that is most likely NOT related to it. I have no problems with using my phone after that, both Marketplace and Xbox live are working just as fine as before.

S8/S8+ Oreo Beta is live!!!

There's 10,000 slots available instead of the Sammobile reported 7500 slots available. Once you click a few agreements, you get in automatically but then nothing happens. You have to force the update by going into Settings\Software update. The update happens normally then. The settings menu has changed quite a bit, Oreo is MUCH snappier (especially reboots), and some icons have changed. The warning in the last screenshot comes up automatically about 20 seconds after each reboot. Good luck getting in!!! :highfive:

Can someone post the OTA? OR Odin flashable files if there is any way to get them?
I don't see it. Any way to force it?

The OTA downloads to the /cache folder which non-rooted users don't have access to. I wasn't rooted and I don't think you can be in order to join the Beta. Trust me, Sammobile would have posted it already if this was possible.

You have to be either a T-Mobile or Sprint customer or have the unlocked model. It won't appear for anyone else. It will ONLY show up in the Samsung+ app. If you don't see it on the main screen, use the 3 dot menu on the left to see if it shows up there like the screenshot I posted.
I would love to get my hands on the radio and at least flash the modem. Would that work?

Sure, you could flash the modem if anyone could get the OTA but I'm pretty sure it'd be quite difficult. Since we're not rooted, you'd literally have to catch the OTA transmitting over your WiFi network onto your PC and then extract it. Which reminds me....
@bogdi1988 - Perhaps it's not showing up for you because you're not connected to a WiFi network. Make sure you're logged in to your Samsung account in Galaxy Apps and that all your Samsung Apps are up to date (the only way they update is when on WiFi.) Then check the Samsung+ app to see if it shows up for you. Hope this helps.

What about the basic stuff like: adb logcat > file.txt
Then check for updates, extract the url and manually download the OTA?

Samsung account signed in. All apps are updated. Tried wireless and cell signal and no prompt. Reinstalled the app a few times. Still nothing.

I updated hours ago and have rebooted several times since updating. I don't think I'd have a chance of finding the file name at this point. It would've been best to start a logcat right before initializing the OTA.

On T-Mobile. Been looking in both places each time...
attached is proof it works. im running stock Oreo no root.
Sent from my SM-G955U using XDA-Developers Legacy app
My "upgrade" did not go well. Turns out that package disabler pro is not playing nice with this update. I kept getting Android system has stopped and couldn't even load the main home screen. I gave up finally and hard reset and resintalled all my apps. I also had a pretty bad problem with the battery draining faster than it was charging on a wall plug. Factory reset was a pain to reinstall everything (still ongoing as I need apps, I reinstall them) but the battery issue has disappeared. Can't tell if WiFi is any better. Opinions on this release would be most welcome.

You're complaining about a third party app that disables stock apps that is NOT updated to support Oreo yet not playing nice with a Beta build??? Absurd. I'm quite sure the upgrade went as smoothly for everyone else as it did me.
As for my feedback, I haven't noticed a single hiccup with the build. It doesn't feel like a Beta. It seems like it could've been a final/official build.
Samsung+ never showed the update to me. Oh well. :crying:
Yes, I'm on T-Mobile S8+ in US.

It's not about "showing" it to you. They're pushing it to almost everyone. I spoke with 3 other guys who signed up and registered through the Samsung app and it pushed it on the next update.

So you see, I don't think my Samsung account is registered to their Beta program. I have never seen links to do so.
I guess as a small consolation, Samsung/TMo pushed a Nougat update out: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s8/SM-G955U/TMB/download/G955USQU1AQJ8/193749/

LOL, that wasn't a "complaint" that was an observation. As noted by the no complaint and an observation comment. As far as not noticing it's a beta, would that be between the 15 or so times per minute that the software pops up a warning that this is beta software and may not work as well as expected and may cause problems? That not obvious it's a beta message? Also, the bad battery drain was an issue. That shouldn't happen no matter what.
