Motorola Droid X Release Date - July 2nd? - Droid X General

So, everyone saw the Verizon teaser for the Droid X. But if you watch frame by frame you can see this:
http://briefmobile.com/droid-x-release-set-for-july-2nd
So, July 2nd release date? Wouldn't be too out of the question. First... it is a Friday. Second, it's nearly a week and a half after the Verizon Unleash the New Droids event.
Here's the youtube video

Complete analysis of the video

very nice, I hope so.

God I hope so. Just sold my Eris for $250. And thats my bday

I think that is wishful thinking, but we'll find out for sure in another 2 or 3 hours when they make the announcement.

The Motorola Droid X will be release July 15th, 2010 for $199 with new2yrs agreement and anyone who is up for upgrade this year can upgrade to it early...

Anyone know what it is for a one-year contract?
Two-years is just too long when they release a cool new phone every six-months.

I would say somewhere between $269.99-$369.99 price range...

It should be $270 (after MIR and everything)

EVO pre order info leaked.

Check it out according to this pre order starts at the end of the month. I can't wait.

While I agree that certainly confirms alot of the speculated dates it gives us very little new information.
The big announcement I and I would imagine alot of other people want is how much (the price tag) and how the 4G hot spot feature will be in terms of pricing.
It seems like June is MONTHS away! I'm so bored of my iPhone 3G. I've never had a phone for 2 years!
See with Sprint you only need to wait one year. AT&T is the devil!

Yea, but it's still a 2 year contract though... Right?
So I buy the EVO and Now I'm locked in for 2 years (2012). Next year I get an early upgrade and re-sign, now I'm in for 2 MORE years (2014) and it's only 2011. Correct?
It's actually very clever and I think it's a good way to keep loyal customers and keep them happy with new phones at the same time.
If I can use the EVO with this new pre-paid plan, then I'd be all about paying the up-front cost though! http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/06/sprint-virgin-mobile-announces-beyond-talk-25-pre-paid-plan/
ETF
If I am locked into my carrier for that long, and I really want to leave, I would just pay the ETF. It would be worth the fee instead of waiting three years....
They are not cumulative it is two years from the date you sign the contact
Price Leaked
Gizmodo ran a story this morning saying that it will be available for $600 off-contract and $200 in-contract and available on June 6th.

No, it's two years from the date you sign. If you upgrade in a year, then you sign a new two year agreement. If, a year later, you do not use your upgrade, you still have one year left on the contract. This prevents customers from getting a new device and leaving a year later without penalty. The perk is that you have the option to upgrade every 12 months as a Premier Customer.
Oh, cool. That's not bad then. I was getting a little worried.

Losing Sprint Premier: What would you do?

I still have my hero. My yearly upgrade was last October, so it's been a year and a half since my yearly upgrade was due.
My 2 year contract is up this coming October. I know I will lose my upgrade on 4/1 (I could have upgraded since last October).
Question for you guys:
Would you guys buy an Evo now and sell it so that you can get something for your yearly upgrade? That would extend my contract for 2 more years and I will still want a new phone in the near future...
OR: would you just wait and try to work out something with Sprint? Would they even budge?
Im thinking, around June (when these new phones are more than likely to be released), my yearly upgrade will only be 4 months away and I can pay $40.00 to get out of my contract early.
Do you guys think Spring would try and work with me?
What should I do?
Thanks.
Sprint is a little flexible, but I don't think they would be on this matter. Sprint is a service that will trap you up in its contract.
I'd get the EVO.
Damn...
I hope Im not stuck because rumors are swirling about the Evo 3D being announced soon... : - \

I am in the same boat (probably a lot of Hero users who didn't jump ship to the Evo are as well). I would say stick it out. Even if Sprint doesn't let you upgrade until October, it will be worth the wait. Dual core processors are the future so you might as well wait it out. Heck you waited this long.
I'm waiting to see more about the Pre 3 or for Sprint to actually release a phone that can actually compete with what other carriers are dropping. End of March should bring some good news.
you wont lose your upgrade. just talked to a rep about my upgrade due in june an he said if your already eligible you wont lose your upgrade, told me to call back the last week in march and he would bump my upgrade up to april so i dont lose out on it.
I would advise people to go by the letters sprint sent out and their web site which let you know exactly the opposite what that Rep told you. You should believe him after April 1 when you have an upgrade discount in print, but until then he's an employee trying to move along to the next customer

Because come April 1st, sprint is doing away with yearly upgrades on individual plans below $89.99 or or $169.99 for shared plans:
Check out this post by DaWeav. It pretty much says it all:

Oh yeah...Simply everything for me...ninety nine, ninety nine ;-)
After my work discount I pay $70.00 including taxes. Your plan would be a waste for me since I hardly use any minutes with the any mobile any time deal.
Just spoke with sprint representative and “ as long as plan is included in sprint premier you will still get your upgrade in regardless what you pay with discounts” Any one else get different answer?
Everything will be up to you -
Im very dissapointed but my decision still keep Sprint even thought i'm not happy with it.
I've been a Sprint customer for almost 9yrs. will be 10yrs on August 2012
I have a shared plan $129.99 + 2 lines Im still Silver.
But... Im elegible for upgrade since 11-1-10
I havent upgrade cause im waiting for the right phone. might be Evo3d or Nexus S - I dont know if i dont upgrade before April 1st i'll still keep my upgrade. if not. I Assume ill be 22 months by September. if thats the case i have my Hero running CM7 and can wait until then.
Im considering all options... Hoping they will let me upgrade, but im not holding my breath.
BTW.. I just upgraded to Cyanogen7... Took some work on my part, upgrading everything.
However, this thing works great. Those guys have outdone themselves. Ill be donating for sure. Check it out guys!
yeah its gay that yearly upgrades are going 2 be gone but oh well
Yeah, well I did a chat and was told that there is no way they will let you upgrade after 4/1 unless your contract is up or your plan qualifies for the new "Premier" status.
Im looking at the Tmobile LG Optimus 2x. Looks good and Tmobile has good coverage where I live.
It also depends on what new handsets Sprint releases in the near future. It better be good.
We shall see...

If your upgrade eligible now but waiting till Oct. You need to read this.

This was taken from the Sprint Premier forums. http://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/76419
"Hi xxxx
This is Clarissa with the Premier team.
Thanks for your patience. We received clarification that Premier Gold customers using their eligible annual upgrade before 10/2/11 will have one more annual upgrade available to be used by 12/31/12. If the annual upgrade is used on or after 10/2/11, that line would then be moved into the New for You program to be upgrade eligible every 20 months. In your situation, if you used your annual upgrade on 9/16/11; you would have one more annual upgrade available to be used by 12/31/12.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Thanks,
Clarissa"
So to sum this up, if you upgrade now you'll get another 12 month upgrade. If you wait till after Oct 2 your moved to the "New for you program" https://manage.sprintpcs.com/specialoffers/RebateWelcome.do which lets everyone upgrade every 20 months.
I for one was going to wait till mid Oct until I read the above quote.
Thanks for the heads up.
I, myself, became eligible for the yearly, but I wanted to wait for a (possible) google phone before the end of the year. Then, I could get another phone late next year.
With this, I may have to get the E4GT.
Also, the "new for you" is changing to 20 months.
Another source: http://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/76419
The answer for this question is yes. Current Premier Gold customers who upgrade tomorrow (or prior to 10/2/11) would qualify again for an upgrade in 12 months (that they would be able to use before 12/31/12). After that, they are going to qualify every 20 months under the New for you Handset upgrade program.

So is it worth it for me to upgrade to a epic touch just so I can get an upgrade? Or should I just wait it out for a better phone.
I'm leaning towards getting an epic touch.
I am focused on waiting for the Nexus Prime. This is makin my resolve waver.

I'd wait for Oct 1/2nd to do the upgrade.
Then you still have the 14 day swap, if the Prime comes out.
I'd be careful with this one guys...
I looked into this a little bit today - I had two separate conversations with two different Sprint Customer Service Reps regarding this...both of the reps had the same reply…..
“The Premier program is coming to a close at the end of 2011. Sprint Premier Gold customers - who aren't immediately eligible under the New for You Upgrade Program - will have until the end of 2012 to take advantage of their last qualifying annual upgrade. Once customers take advantage of their annual upgrade they will seamlessly transition to the New for You Upgrade Program under the new rules. (OR) If the customer does not utilize their upgrade eligibility before the end of December 2012 then they too will seamlessly be transitioned to the New for You Upgrade Program under the new rules (whichever scenario comes first)”
I am a Sprint Premier Gold customer & eligible for my annual upgrade. However, based on the above statements and the confusion surrounding this topic, (although itching to get my upgrade now) I will wait to see what new phones will be coming out over the next couple of months to make my final decision.
As a former Epic user, now utilizing the ET4G, I say...totally worth it.

If you look at my first post this came right from the Sprint Premier forums. If you wait till after Oct 2 then your going to lose out on a second 12 month upgrade. Do what you want though. I for one believe the Sprint mods posting in that forums compared to some random people in a call center.
In fact here is the proof. I'm a Sprint gold premier member. I just used my 12 month upgrade a few days ago to get the Epic touch.
When I go here to check when I'm eligible for my next upgrade https://manage.sprintpcs.com/specialoffers/RebateWelcome.do?ECID=vanity:upgrades
This is what it shows for me.

As you can see I'm eligible to upgrade again in 12 months.
So if your a gold premier member upgrade before Oct 2 or you"ll wait 20 months for the next upgrade.
This is assuming that I'd want to get another phone next year. I don't see a point to getting a phone right now because I'm happy with my Epic, and none of the other phones out there right now are not that big of a step. If I wait for several months, there will probably be a bigger-stepped phone, then I would have to wait 20 more months before I get another one.
I guess I could sell my upgrade if anyone wants to buy it, but I'm not really all that interested myself.

For the "limited time" Cyber Monday and Wednesday offer, Moto was NOT refunding the difference if you purchased your X "recently", even if it was during the return period.
There was a thread here on XDA where multiple users posted that when they contacted Moto about a price adjustment due to having recently purchased the X, they were instructed they would have to do a return/repurchase type thing... (Or just purchase one at the "limited promo price" and return the originally purchased one due to how long the RMA and credit process takes).
Since Motorola Mobility also replied in the comments to that post "It will be promo codes like the holiday sale. You will need to register on Motorola.com and the code will be emailed to you." I expect this will be the same.
$350 for a developer edition is very tempting.
Damn, Motorola isn't playing nicely. Just shows how they jacked up the release price. The $599 phone can be had for $299 now. Shameless Motorola, no respect for early adopters.

Forgot the dev edition was 32gb only, so $350. But it is included: https://twitter.com/Motorola/status/426869667290820608
So I'm gonna be in the market for a new phone in a few weeks. I'm gonna miss this price drop. But would you say the moto x is still a viable option. I'm torn between this and the n5. But I like this phones feature better and I do lots of driving and I don't want always have to touch my phone while driving. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

They had a sale last year but from what I remember, the site wasn't working and some people got to the check out page and the discounts didn't work. I'm also waiting for a deal because it was $150 off but that won't do you any good if they have technical issues with the site.
The 2013 also wasn't selling like the 2014. Less incentive for a big sale ...

There was a cyber monday event last year.
All Moto X got $150 off, but the website failed for almost whole day.
But Moto postpone its Cyber Monday Moto X deal last year.

If I buy the ATT model for .01 (2 year contract) is it SIM locked? What is ATT early termination fee?

Is it SIM Locked? What is the ETF?
I gave in and ordered yesterday. White/Navy/yellow. Figure if there is a sale, I'll reorder and return this one

WIth the 2013 version it was pretty easy to get a discount if you were within your return policy when the phone went on sale. It was a nightmare for me with the 2014 version (over an hour on the phone with multiple departments, etc), but it can be done without having to actually ship back your phone, which is what they tried to insist on.
Amazon is selling moto x 2nd generation for 0.01 for at&t and Verizon

ATT is SIM locked. Only the Pure won't be.

I saw that too. But it doesn't have $150 Costco cash.
Without the Costco cash, I would rather go for the Pure edition...

Cyber monday deal is on...
http://mdsupport.custhelp.com/ci/documents/detail/2/CyberMondayRegisterNow_US
$360+tax for 16GB
Pls update the OP
Edit: Original source:
http://blogs.wsj.com/personal-technology/2014/11/25/black-friday-and-cyber-monday-deals-for-the-best-smartphones/
Edit2: When they mention no contract Moto X, I'm assuming it's Pure edition.
Also, please mention in the OP that on contract Moto X will be 0.01 and 30% off accessories.
Im so getting one!
I received my Moto X last Friday and hence I'm within the 14 day return window. I've just got off the phone to see if I could get the £100 discount and all they offered me way a £100 credit against products on the website. In the UK this is really only the Moto 360 which I don't want. They said they couldn't just refund me £100 so I asked for a return label.
£100 can't be ignored so back it goes. Madness.

Yeees!! Umm only question I have is where do I sign up?? That page doesn't show anywhere to sign up for the discount. Just some social media links.

The sign up will appear on Monday so far as I can interpret the page.
