Does this have a front camera? - Galaxy S I9000 General

I've been hearing conflicting reports about whether this has a front camera or not. Some say its a 0.3mp front camera while other says it doesn't' even have one, which is it?

yes it does,
http://galaxys.samsungmobile.com/

? It doesn't say anything on their website about a front facing camera.

It definitely has a front facing camera.

It has a front camera, it was there on the spec page a few weeks ago.
But if you look at user guide on that site, under calling, options during video calling, you'll see

Sling Mobile

Hi All, got this working, but video is very jerky, maybe similar to the (now fixed) bug in the core player?
Anyone know of a way around it?
Kev
Bandwidth
Is the Slingbox on your local network or are you running across the Internet? I'd be very interested to know the cause of the issue as I have it working well on my iPAQ and plan to upgrade to the Ameo and would hate to lose any quality. In fact want to gain from the VGA and faster processor!
-Krip
Local, this is def an Ameo problem sadly.
Must be the crappy ATI thing.
Kev
Strange I am running it fine on my Dopod U1000 over T-mobile HSDPA. I have tested with Version 1.0.0 and the latest on Slings website..
No jerky motion?
Kev
No, I know this is the obvious, but you have not got it set to Control mode? Control mode is very jerky, but allows faster changing of channels etc.
Nope, tried all the different settings.
Where have you installed it?
Kev
It is on the MicroDrive. I will try and run a test over my WLAN. BTH I only use it over HSDPA.
What happen to this thread, it's been quite for a while. I've been following this because I'm evaluating if I should get the box. A few questions:
1) When you watch over internet, typically how fast does the download quota got eaten up? Say how many MB per hour?
2) Do you think UMTS connection instead of HSDPA will give smooth video?
Thanks guys for the info.
Well I run it over Wi-fi on my local LAN and I must say I'm quite disappointed. The picture isn't much better than my QVGA iPAQ and I have no idea why.

Slingmobile player seems to have issues with landscape -- also on my TyTN. If you put it in portrait mode, even on the Athena, it works better. But, it defeats the purpose of a nice 5" screen of TV. I leave it on landscape, and deal with the jerkyness. And this seems to hold true on EDGE, 3G, HSDPA, or WiFi.
New Slingplayer 1.5 is out today. Give it a try.
Your video quality is going to be dependent on the slowest connections. (ie your upload at home and your download where you are watching it) THe sling stream technology maximizes the video quality based on network conditions. anyone have any questions just drop me a line

How to Open the x7501

Someone posted this month ago but got no answer.
I will post it aga: does anybody know how to open the Athena ? I drop mine and the radio has very low signal, I assume the antenna broke or disconnected. Need help !!!
Thanx
Probably says in the service manual available here ->

It does !!
Thank you, tonight I will try to open it.
get the screws out from the bottom, use a flathead screwdriver and hope u dont snap it in half just joking. the above manual is your best bet.
Fabio - did you have trouble opening the zip files?
I didn't know it could do radio
What, the Ameo can get radio? Cool. How do you use it? What software do you have to install?

No trouble at all.
I could open my x7501 but didn't find what was the problem. I thought it could be a contact or something loose but didn't see anything. A recommendation if you want to open your athena: stick to the manual ! I took out some button that should not and broke them. Some glue fixed it but they are stiff now

Camera geotaging through fast GSM cell position?

I installed latest camera from R3A rom with geotagging functions and it works great - when you have GPS signal. It means it works only outside and usually only when GPS was on before starting camera app. Else it wont fix fast enough before taking photos. So my idea was that phone support quick GPS fix through GSM operator network. Is there any way how to utilize this in geotaging feature of camera? It is probably hardcoded, but may be not?

[Q] Front Facing Camera on I9000

does anyone knows if there is a way to get the front facing camera on the I9000 to work over WI-FI instead of 3G with without fring? Im in the US stuck with EDGE on T-Mobile and my FFC only works on 3G
There is a front facing camera? Really?
on the Samsung S I9000 UK version there is a FFC but it requires 3G. since my phone is the UK version it does not have the 1700/2100 band that Tmobile uses for 3g so since all i can get is EDGE that is why it does not work. unless i go over to att and then get it to work over there
id=2
not sure if I get you right, - from a dev point of view the front-cam on samsungs is simply the 'second' cam, so code wise it's eg:
Camera.Parameters parameters = mCamera.getParameters();
parameters.set("camera-id", 2);
mCamera.setParameters(parameters);
or
mMediaRecorder.setVideoSource(2);
if the app you are using supports this, no problem, if it's your app or if you have access to the source code, no problem either, last you could still ask the dev of your app of choice to add this option
C.
ps:
on other droids and some OEM samsungs a special lib called FrontFacingCamera is used, the 'normal' SGS does not include or use this lib but just the normal libs with id=2

The Galaxy S Vibrant in Canada has a front facing cam too.
I could never get Fring to work as it would use the camera on the back, not the front lol. That was on 3G.
Update your fring.with the latest update front camera works perfect
Sent from my GT-I9000M
that is true, the new version of frings does support the front facing camera. however I was reffering to the actual app that comes with the phone by default for dialing a video call. that is the one that I was hoping there was a way to overwrite some settings to get it to work over wi-fi

Using your point and shoot camera with the TF via the Eye Fi card.

I just wanted to give a shout out to something that I've been doing since yesterday...using the Eye Fi (SD card with built in Wifi) to instantly view pics taken with my point and shoot camera.
The new models have a "direct mode" which creates a network to transfer pics directly from your camera to your android device.
Virtually from the time you hit the shutter to the time you are viewing the picture on your TF it might be 20 seconds depending on the size of the pics...I'm using 6mp size.
here is a video of it in action. (on an android phone but you get the idea)

How much do theses wifi cards run?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
I bought the cheapest one...called the Connect X2. It was 4gb and only does wifi and direct to android or iphone/ipod.
it was 39.99.
They range in price depending on what you want them to do and the size.
The one I bought (I think that they all do this) has an auto card cleaning feature...when your pictures get to a certain level full (mine is set on 50% of the card's total size) then if there are pictures that have been transferred already, it will delete them automatically to make more room on the card.
Mine will also upload directly and or automatically to any one of about 25 or 30 online photo sites...I have mine set to Facebook and Picasa but only pictures that I choose to upload..not all of the ones I take.
That's some cool technology. Make me want to buy a camera.

Well...I had no intention of buying a camera myself. I've been using my phone's camera and it does the job for fast things that you really don't care that much about...but I tried to take pics of my step-son's jazz band performance and the camera phone doesn't cut it...it sucked in quality.
So that started the phone thing...and then the next obvious question is...how to easily get pics from the camera to the laptop or phone....
And here we are.
It's almost surprising to me that Canon or Sony or any other camera manufacturer hasn't tried to create their own network-enabled point-n-shoot or, preferably, DSLR, that if you wished, could eliminate the need for a form of internal storage entirely and just transfer the photos in this way. Granted either it would still need either some serious cache memory to store the photos/video's taken as they're transferred to the phone, or a blazing fast connection to the phone itself... but what the hell, we have refrigerator's with net-connected displays on them. why the hell not?

Actually, they do now. Here are a couple that I'm aware of...
1) Toshiba is launching "flashair" which is the same sort of thing as the WiFi http://dpreview.com/news/1109/11090205toshibawificard.asp Sony has wireless transfer memory sticks
2) Olympus has a "PenPal" module for their Pen series of Micro 4/3 cameras that automatically transfers pictures as you take them and sends them to your social media sites... I don't think that it can transfer full size though. Canon has one called the Canon WFT-E2A.
3) Pretty sure that there are some other cameras with built in wireless transfer now, just am not familiar with them because I was not really interested in it, someone else can jump in. I know that Sony had one, I'm too lazy to google them up ha.
As soon as those cameras come down in price; close to your regular non wireless camera's then I don't know what will happen to these cards.
The only advantage that I can see is that the card doesn't care what it's plugged into to transfer....it just needs power...and it will do the transferring...USB hub....computer....camera...whatever....
You could be transferring 500 pics to your home PC a half a world away while you are out shooting more pics on another card. (there is an optional "relay" method of transfer...your camera nor receiving device have to be on at the same time. The pics get queued up in the Eye Fi servers and the next time you turn on the receptor device (within 30 days) the pictures automatically download.

There will still be a place for these. I know a couple professional photographers who use these, and they need serious cameras, wide-angle, large-format, etc. It's alot easier to get one of these cards, and swap it between all your cameras, than to replace all your cameras with Wifi models. I have a feeling alot of the pro stuff will never get Wifi, anyways.

Interesting. Does this work with Ad-Hoc mode for times when there is no internet connection ?
Edit:Just read on the website that Ad-Hoc mode is not supported on Android. So unless there is an internet connection, it will not work on the TF.

I just read about the direct mode. Very tempted to give it a try but still debating whether I "really" need this or not
Update:Was too tempted to try it out so I ordered the PRO X2 card last night
That is pretty cool. Better remember to disable it before taking any *ahem* personal photos or you couldbe streaming pics to the whole neighbourhood
Yeah..that would be embarassing...
Honey! Come look...this thing wouldn't even flush!"....

Estimated Retail Price: $749.99† .
For that price, I would prefer to manually upload all my pics
Yea.... not only was i going to point that out, but also point out that it's only compatible with 3 DSLR's.... and that being the ones that still have a retail price of $3,999.... $4,999... and $6,999... the three most expensive cameras Canon sells. That freakin adapter, if it even worked for my Rebel T2i.... practically costs the SAME as my T2i.
