Samsung i9000 Galaxy S ~ Battery Type - Galaxy S I9000 General

Guys,
I've been following the Galaxy S forum over at hardwarezone.com and one topic that's struck up is to do with the type of battery the Asian guys are finding in their phones.
The Asian release seems to have the G7 Battery, whereas the one that GSMArena reviewed and gave a high 7hrs 25mins video time was a G9.
It will be interesting to hear what type will be shipped to the rest of the world.
As and when you get your phone can you please post the battery info.
Here's a pic of the one from GSMArena

Thanks Beard for opening a thread. In regards to the battery, below is the information printed on the battery.
EB575152VU
1500mAh
5.55Wh (printed next to the 1500mAh)
S/N: AA1Z512oS/5-B
生产日期 (Meaning Date of manufacture) 2010-05-12
G7
The position of the above is similar to the above image, except with the additional 5.55Wh printed on.
Regarding the battery life, a number of us do experience short battery life. However this is very subjective, for the reasons that each one perception of short or long is difference, and each one's personal usage pattern is different. But one thing I am pretty certain, whatever GSMArena had tested, we here will not be able to replicate the same results.
Therefore, I will be very interested to know how the rest of the countries, US, Europe, or even the Middle East will have in the battery.
I hope users could share their information over here.

Many thanks g00ndu. Again appreciated.
I also left you a 'Thanks' in the AndroidForum.

De GS does 418 minutes (=7 hours) in that test. With the following settings:
In our customary battery life test, we play back in a continuous loop a test video encoded at 240 x 320 resolution under the following conditions: 100% screen brightness and volume and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth active, with push email or data being pulled from the network at regular intervals.

So thats the second source stating that de battery life is good. Those bad comments from singapore are all from new batteries, they need to be charged about 5 times to reach their full capacity.

Perhaps so, what was played is a 240x320 video. I wonder if we can maintain the same length of time if a HD video is played.
Besides, usage for each one varies, and still there is a subjectivity in the test. The tendency of playing with a new phone (especially I'm a noob in android phone) will be a lot more. I'm still keeping my finger crossed here, though. Haha, worst case scenario, I can always get a backup battery, unlike some fruity phones I know.
Please do share the information whoever has the phone.

It's just a placebo effect. There's no difference.

hmmmm.. battery ohh battery.. why are you so.. hehehe
in reality the battery life of Galaxy S is not so great.
wish samsung or 3rd party will produce or manufacture high capacity battery for the phone.. hmmmm.. like seidio (innocell) for example.

yup yup.. hopefully in the near future.
have you tried draining your battery then charge it fully 5 times.. not in one go.. read information online where they say that you need to charge it 5 times to fully get the battery working at 100% capacity.

Yes, I'm not sure how GSMArena got hold ogf that G9 battery.
Mine too is a G7.

Mine is G7 and ordered from the UK.

Mine is g7 as well.

G7 too, from Handtec. I have found that over several months of using my HD2, about the same average usage, the battery life does seem to have improved. So I'm expecting better results from this one over time.

Here (The Netherlands) also G7

First: Whats the difference between "G7" and "G9"?
Second: I don't understand the problem. (Referring to the initial post: "The Asian release seems to have the G7 Battery, whereas the one that GSMArena reviewed and gave a high 7hrs 25mins video time was a G9.")
gsmarena test:
we charged the Galaxy S until it said full and looped a standard definition XviD video with the screen brightness set to 50% until the battery level fell to 10% (beyond that point the handset automatically turns off the video player and doesn’t allow restarting it)

Different testing conditions, different results...
I claim that even the content of the video itself will play a significant role. AMOLED uses less power for darker scenes and most for very bright scenes. So it's something different if I play a horror movie or a comedy.
All in all: Is there a real difference between G7 and G9 or did you just claim it cause of the different results?

Anything special about the "G8" battery version? Found it here (it's number 67 in the list):

No idea, that's why I asked what batteries others were getting so that we could then ascertain the differences.

I was not suggesting there was a problem and I'm not that bothered myself about these test either.
All I want to try and achieve is:-
a) Are there two batteries (G7 & G9)
b) If there are indeed two batteries, is there any differences in both performance and hot running.

@beards
I agree

My battery is also a G7, and my phone was bought in Scandinavia.

my Vodafone UK 16gb GS came with a G7, it doesn't last a full day
**update**
After charging for around a week, it now lasts a lot longer, i can get a full day of normal use ie. a few phone calls a few texts, browsing the internet for around 30 mins and some application use.

Nexus 4 Battery Life

Hey there..
I'm thinking of getting this phone, but in every review, they say the battery life is pretty crappy... can somone please share their experiences or stats on this please?
Thanks!
Nobody has one yet....
FFS
even if it is horrible. These press units aren't being used "normally" or lightly. They are constantly being hammered to get every last thing about it to talk about.
We have kernels and roms to go on. My Galaxy Nexus last 35 hours on a single charge on a stock battery. While some people struggle to get even 10 hours on it.
Wait for the gsm arena battery test results and then compare the hours to other phones to see how it performes

Exactly. my guess is also that it's because of the phone not being in the final software. Otherwise how could the same battery prove that worse compared to ICS lg Optimus? Jelly bean had a much better battery life in general too...
And IMO that is also the reason for the poor performance
Let's hope everything will be alright after the software update

The trend toward devices with internal batteries, ones that can’t be replaced, has come at the dismay of many power users who often need to switch to a fresh battery in the middle of the day. The Nexus 4 has a “non-removable” battery like most people expected, but it looks like it might be a lot easier to access than many might assume. You’re probably not going to make a battery swap in the middle of the day, but if you run into an issue with the battery, at least you know it won’t be impossible to replace.
Defective batteries and burn-out are a real concern with modern mobile device batteries, and while it may be fairly rare for something to go wrong, anyone with a smartphone who’s not willing to disassemble the entire device can tell you how frustrating it is to lose a phone to a bad battery. On November 2, a follower of Brian Klug, Senior Editor for Anandtech.com, sent him a tweet about battery replacement for the Nexus 4 on Twitter. Mr. Klug responded:
@aatifsumar there are two torx screws, then some plastic clips, it’s easy
Aatif pushed for a little more information and Mr. Klug responded with a great photo of the battery situation:
@aatifsumar two screws, boomhttp://twitpic.com/b9pbsj
The 2100mAh battery should be fairly capable of handling a day of moderate use, but for the fear of battery failure this is great news. Mr. Krug came through with another photo a little later giving a bigger picture of the situation.

Doesn't really solve anything anyone is talking about here. Being able to replace defective batteries is a separate issue from the phone's poor battery life.

i think they plugged in charger at the red square
surely, it is impossible to reach 16 hour
Yes that's true. The nexus 4 consumes lot of battery life when the wifi is used.
I take all these battery complaints with a grain of salt. First, software was not final. I find it hard to believe it is going to be THAT much different than Optimus G.
Something else -- I had a friend who got a US GS III and had terrible battery life despite doing everything. Exchanged for a new one and battery life was double the first one. Do you think any of these "get it out first" reviewers considered this as a possibility? Heck, most of them didn't even mention that Google told them the OS code was not final.
It is worth noting that LG has had battery issues in the past. Was one of the reasons I didn't get an LG last year.
I'm finding the battery life to be pretty good. Over 36 hours and still going for light use. By light use, I mean I played a couple of videos, made a couple of calls, general internet surfing, lots of drop box syncing and more. Mostly all over Wifi. Also some wifi tethering for an hour or so. I also find that the battery charges quicker than normal too. Hope this helps

Sony Xperia Z3 - 2 Day Battery Life [INFO]

Morning, Evening, Afternoon All (depends where you are) I'm really excited about the Xperia Z3 Compact!!!
So If you're interested in this phone I'm certain by now, you've seen the claim for 2 DAYS OF BATTERY LIFE which is why I'm sure the majority are here! Yes I'm excited about the Camera's Blazing high ISO count and superb IP rating w/ underwater feature but without good battery they won't mean much.
In this day and age were all skeptics about battery life claims until we experience it ourselves, and for good reason! Either way I'm just here to drop some info about that.
The Z3 Compact will also be featuring a Stamina Mode for 4 days and even an Ultra Mode for 7 days battery, Kinda amazing! Ultra Mode limits you to pretty much calling and texting according to SONY but that's probably good to save battery for long periods where you only need your phone for emergencies.
Below is from "Strategy Analytics" who ran z3 Compact battery test on behalf of SONY. Here is a link to the CLAIM TEST AND RESULTS.
2-day battery life
During battery performance testing conducted between July and September 2014 in a laboratory under an active use conditions reflective of the Typical Smartphone User by Sony Mobile Communications AB the Z3 lasted at least 48 hours minutes on average until battery exhaustion.
Battery performance testing reflective of a Typical Smartphone User usage profile involved using the device for approximately 5 hours in a 24-hour period, for a range of typical usage scenarios (calling, texting, web, sns, games, camera, music and video). Default settings were applied for the device during battery performance testing including display brightness of 100Nits and Battery stamina mode off.
Typical Smartphone User usage profile. This involved using the device for approximately 5 hours in a 24-hour period, for a range of typical usage scenarios (calling, texting, web, sns, games, camera, music and video).

UPDATE: GSMARENA has released battery life results for the Xperia Z3! Their test show (DRUM ROLL) 4 DAYS :victory: & this is without stamina or ultra mode, I can't contain myself any longer! We haven't heard of numbers like this since the good old candy bar phone days. I loved playing snake on nokia phone! You can't be NOT be excited for the Z3C! Also click the link for the full phone review for the Xperia Z3 Compact.
2ND UPDATE: The phone has dropped in India! Most if not all of the US bands seem to be supported on the international version as well according to the White Paper
and we have an actual user review on reddit, only thing I found great here is he's the first I've seen to actual post LOW LIGHT shots. BEEN waitinga while for this!! Be excited people!

I really like my iPhone 5, but after all rumors of iPhone 6 (most of them will be true), I decided back to Android. At first, new look (iP6) it's not for me. Second, battery is deal breaker here. It is not possible to stand long with this specs and low capacity battery. Screen and connectivity take all. I really hope to get smartphone with 1 full day battery life.

The comparision above is quite accurate. Yes, it is possible. The stamina mode work wonders already, and if you ever plan to install a more efficient ROM like Cyanogenmod, I am sure the battery claims will be all true. I own a Z1 Compact ' the battery is unbelievable, plus the Z3 Compact battery will be even better. The iPhone 6 specifications are all lame compared to this anyway.
Sure, you can't expect the battery to last at all if you are playing games or roaming on a place with bad signal all day long.

Yep, it does the charging (I think that's it's sole purpose) , although slower than the wall charger, but since the battery life will be great we won't have to charge often anyway

Greetings and thank you for your very detailed unboxing and review on your Zenfone 2 unit, it's great to have you here! I've purchased and have (indirectly) received my 1.8GHz/2GB RAM/32GB ZE551ML model today and so far it's working well.
I don't physically have it yet as my brother in Florida collected and is sending it to me when possible. However, from the feedback of other Zf2 owners I know it's an exceptional device and is definitely worth purchasing any model.
There has been only one major issue with the 4GB ZE551ML variant, as reported by respective owners, and that's the short battery life due to high consumption. Have you and other Taiwanese people experienced this as well, and is Asus aware of this and other bugs?
I suspect that it's actually the Android 5.0 software since we know there's a memory leak that has been addressed in later versions. Regardless, many international owners are disappointed with this and personally I don't blame Asus as the device itself is fantastic. Thanks for anything you can share on this.

I live in Dallas and own the 4g 32gb from Taiwan on At&t. Had it for a week now and battery consumption depends on how you use it and what network are you on mostly. If the phone keeps looking for Lte signal it'll drain your batt. If it keeps looking for WiFi signal even if WiFi is off it'll drain. Auto light it'll drain. 5.0 with me leak it'll drain. And constant fetching notifications it'll drain. I really can't complain with it being quad core and 4gb of ram on at all times its to be expected. Here is my batt consumption for today. This is calls, text, forums, Internet, Bluetooth, Pandora, and Spotify.

You should be getting more than 3 hours of screen on time though. I do see that you have pretty terrible signal, but still. Android OS shouldn't be using the most battery, but unfortunately it does. Battery and screen brightness in sunlight are the reasons I got rid of it.
Nice post, lots of info.

The signal is because it's always looking for Lte. I'm inside most of the time so it doesn't really affect me.
ncie review! lots of info! do you know if the 720p ze550ml camera is the same as the one on the ze551ml?

Is it easy to change the battery? Do you just have to remove the simcard/microsd panel and then disconnect the battery? or it's more complicated?

Post/discuss your battery life!

We were missing a dedicated thread for discussing battery life, maybe due to the fact that not many have the phone yet.
I test LG phones and I put them through the same battery test with 3 topics, video playback, surfing and gaming at different screen brightness.
You can see the results here in Swedish, you can easily understand the numbers in the diagrams
Or you can read the whole article Google translated (turned out pretty good grammatically).
So post your battery results and discuss how to make it better (or worse)!

this is somewhat disappointing.
thanks for the Post though OP, and i agree. i expect for the g4 threads on XDA to boom after its released on all major carriers. Ive been lurking here since day 1 (;
do you know about the stand by time? how long the battery can last when its not in use

Ye, the battery time is much better than G3 if you do light usage, but as soon as you fire up some little heavier so the SoC has to work it plummets quickly.
The standby time is pretty good, several hours per %. But I did have some problem with Google Now wakelocks I think (hard to check without root), became better after uninstalling updates for Google Search and Google Play Services and then reinstalling.

Damn i was really hopeing for a great battery on the g4 after the announcement of the 808 chip. im coming from a ****ty droid razr m that dies quickly after a day, with terrible stand-by time. But i guess as long as the g4 battery is better than my phone, its still an upgrade
So after a a full day of my normal usage yesterday, web browsing, simpler games, some minutes of phone call. I did test that chess program in the other thread that ate like 10+% of my battery pretty quickly.

I ended the day at like 19%, then I forgot to charge it over the night, and it was down to 11% when I woke 12 hours later (Yay weekend). Then I used it down to 3% (dont mind the 30% after charging a while). I do have something under Android-System that is using my GPS and is draining battery sometimes, not much, but still irritating. I tried turning off lots of stuff, but cant seem to find the culprit.

I used G3 before G4 and G2 before that. G4 is better than G3 at light work like chatting, surfing, watching video, but gaming and when it stresses the SoC it becomes worse, even worse than G3. Some days ago I had 3:45 SoT at 3% when I had used the chess app in the other thread for a while. The day after I got 5 hours and 20% left because I had done mostly chatting and browsing.
The screen is almost as power efficient as G2 (which is awesome considering QHD and larger). But SD808 eats power like a fat kid eats candy.

worse than g3 is not somtihng that i want to hear,i hope that software update can fix this....
and because you answered, and got to play with both devices what do you think about the display brightness and outdoor use?(compared to the G3)

At 0% its much darker than G3, at 100% its pretty much same as G3, not sure where that extra 25% brightness went really. I havent had any problem seeing the screen in the sun, not that I bring it up in direct sunlight much, also since I havent gotten it to overheat and lower brightness automatically, it should be a much better experience in the sun.
Zerolemon for me then
Thank you for this thread. This is all I needed to hear.
I have suffered through sub-2-hour screen on time on the G3 for a year now. I have done everything, turning off location, even getting the phone warranty replaced once, getting the Lollipop update, factory resetting yesterday. I have uninstalled apps, left them installed and Greenified. I have done some pretty in-depth testing with Gsam, Better Battery Stats, and the stock battery usage chart. I'm rooting my G3 right now just because I am scientifically curious what in the bleeding ****ing hell is eating my battery on this phone that I wiped yesterday. Yesterday.
I'm either going to Edge up to a Droid Turbo, like my wife has, since my Droid Maxx never did this, get an S6 Edge, or even just get a dumbphone I can make calls on and charge every 3 days, then get literally a Gpad or Nexus 8 or some smallish Android tablet with LTE.
After preordering the flagship phone last year, with more RAM and better specs than everything on the market, then suffering with charge-twice-a-day battery life for a year, I think smartphones have literally failed me, and I think I'm done.
Better battery then i had on my s6

Browsing internet, watching youtube, news apps, xda app, taking some picrures, playing simple games, whatsapp and e-mail
Around 60 to 70% brightness and wifi and 4g active and used both indoors and outdoors and when outdoors wifi still active and brightness at 100%
This i got another day
Seems impressive and going against what is being told around there.

No greenify, never used it and no power save modes
Just normal use
Note 4 i get 7 to 8 hours sot
Nexus 6 4 to 5 hours
Galaxy s6 4 to 5 hours
G4 5 to 6 hours
All same use nu greenify or power save modes

Horrible battery life, with a new MXP

I purchased the phone a week ago. Updated everything, and using 6.0.1 stock rom. My usage is exactly the same, as well as the apps I use, (Firefox, soundcloud, messenger, tapatalk) that I had on my moto e 2nd gen.
With moto e:
3h consistent sot or a bit more
12h daily usage
With moto x play:
4/4:30h SOT Max (cannot get more)
10/12h usage (cannot get more)
I don't know what's wrong and I think my phone is faulty. Yes, the battery does not last forever, but I am having almost similar results as the moto e? Wtf? No root on both. Also, the phone is so slow while browsing certain sites, especially with Firefox? Flash videos and heavy pictures are a ***** to load and the browser even stalls.
Would you guys return the phone in this case? I don't have much choice with wind currently, and I am looking at other phones but don't like much stuff.
I bought a G2 t-mobile on eBay and the seller ****ed me up, stating it was new, when it was refurbished. Would love to find a decent one, fast, but the battery is probably going to have to be swapped?
Also.... The note 4... Still worth it? Just find it big, but the endurance rating on gsmarena is awesome.
Please guys... Give me some guidance here. I have my head on a daze
Buy a portable battery if you plan to keep your phone in hands for a whole day.
First of all, sorry you are feel disappointed in your battery life as i assume you bought the phone for the battery life. Second, gsmarena's endurance rating should not be used as a reference in my opinion. Go through their testing methodology and you will understand why. NOW,
What is your typical usage? Which apps do you use the most and if gps is on? 4g data? screen brightness?
You say you updated everything, what was on it when you got it? 5.x? 6.0? If so, you probably want to do a factory reset, this seems to cure a lot of battery and performance woes after an Android update.
It was the 5.0 something... That is something I could try, but I don't have much hope. It just guzzles to battery.. It's absolutely retarded.

It's worth a shot, it sounds like you don't have much to lose anyway at this point.
You could take it to Wind; I suspect a factory reset is the first thing they'll do too.
Good luck! If you do a reset please post your results.
I'm rooted and using a customer rom, so I can't really comment on your battery usage
As for your browser comment, I noticed that chrome and firefox are pigs on 6.0.1. I don't know why, but sluggish as hell for everything, even my home media server, local connection through chrome takes >2min. just to load the landing page, something that usually comes up immediately.
I installed CM Browser and the experience is night and day.
Try a different browser.
Well... The factory reset I could do that easily, but I mean... The phone is new. There is no reason we should be doing this with a phone with such great battery. It should last hours.... I had a G2 before, and got 8 hours sot right out of the box

You are on 3g and Bluetooth is on too. The fb messenger too is working everytime.
Mostly it's because of 3g. Your signal is so low. Most of battery is going in maintaining the connection.

Habit browser, uninstall fb messenger, bookmark fb on habit and use it for messaging. You're getting getting 1+ hours screen time over your last device? And the problem is? I would love that on a stock device without root... Root it and get yourself 3 more hours sot... Or live with what you have and be happy.
Zdeuce2 now with golden rays of sunshine
Thank you guys for your answers. Zdeuce: the moto e is 2600mah +/-, and moto x play is 3630mah.... Abysmal difference between the two... Just thought it would do so much more, given the "slow" processor and huge battery. I was expecting at least 8 hours SOT.... Stock!

Yes it would be slow but it's an upgrade over the Moto e processor and the huge battery is powering a huge high resolution screen too.

I would wait for three to dour days. Delete all battery saver or ram saving apps. Facebook. Almost all mobiles need few days to settle in.

I hope I can be able to post proper screenshots of the battery this weekend. It just feels that something is wrong. Either my expectations or the phone. And then there is another thing. Don't you guys think the automatically brightness control is way too high 90% of the times? Super bright, to me. The moto e was perfect in that regard.
Adaptive brightness is the first thing I turn off when I get a new phone. I don't like it and my eyes have adjusted to a consistent brightness over time. Try disabling Adaptive brightness and location if you are not navigating. That should ease up on the drain.

The adaptive brightness and playing games is your problem. Try to keep your brightness around 50% or lower and your sot will be much more. Also you can disable apps you dont use (google sheets, maps, chrome, google+)or greenify them if you wanna keep using them. If this doesn't help i should do a factory reset to be sure its not a bug.
