Upgrading codecs? - HD2 General

i can update codecs on the multiplayer on my pc, can i do the same for multiplayer on the HD2?
Mike

i guess you mean media player. i don't know if it is possible to upgrade/install codecs for the windows media player or the manila player.
but you can try tcpmp(free) or coreplayer(commercial), these two support most codecs.

yup sorry lol.
ill have a look at the progs you suggest. i have movies that play fine on the pc but not on the phone so put this down to codec lack.
Mike

get chainfire`s video driver from this forum and the netdrgTCPMP-player and the overclock utility (just do a search in the APPS-subforum) and You will be fine with all videos ..................

i have now put tcpmp on the phone and the movies now play so big fanx ;-)
only thing is that some of the control buttons do not show up such as play and pause. they are there but are kinda black on black so i cant see em. not a biggie as i am just pleased that i can now watch book of eli on the phone.
Mike

did You reset after install ?

LeoCPUSpeed (genious mod !, makes HD2 work in lightspeed):

VLC PLAYER FOR PPC anyone

does anybody know where to find vlc player ppc.... the official site doesn't offer anymore... if you have it then please give me...
I've read that it's highly unstable. You can get the last draft here:
http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/wince/vlc-0.8.4-test1-20051012-0130-wince.zip
If you're looking for a video player, I'd recommend TCPMP very strongly. For audio, MortPlayer (for various reasons such as supports more than wmv/mp3, has built-in screen sleep mode and button mapping, is easy to re-skin).
What was your intended use for VLC?
I agree TCPMP is a great player, used it for a long time on my ipaq, and now on my wizard, just works great
Myrddin wyllt,.. I was kinda looking for good decoders for live streaming. I love to watch live tv over wifi, watching anime, basketball, news and etc... though wmp, tcmp, streaming video, core player, or even the mplayer ( doesn't support sound with wma streaming) don't offer that much decoders.. like rstp: streaming 3gp or mms streaming mp4... and I'm even hoping that there would be a divx stream for ppc! I wish.
I had all but lost hope for this... but then I heard that vlc ppc was also able to stream video... I was hoping that it would support all decoders.. IF NOT I"ll just copy the Plugins from the VLC (PC VERSION) then put in the vlc ppc directory...
IF i came up with an error in vlc streaming then i'll try copying the plugins... though i don't know if it will work or not? But who knows.
Though if i made some mistakes, please please correct me (thats the only way i'll learn)
I HAVE GOOD DAY!
Thumb Up! TCPMP and MortPlayer!
If you want to stream 3GP through RTSP/HTTP, just use the HTC Streaming Media.
For wma streaming...why don't you use WMP?

WMP supports all lot but sometimes it doesn't work, Audio works but no video... and in mplayer support video but no wma....
BTW... IS htc streaming media the same as streaming media... I downloaded a WM6 rom onto my 8125 and got a streaming media software with it... IS IT the same as htc streaming media or an upgraded version?...

If you're looking for a Divx stream, DIVX.COM now has a mobile player. I haven't tested it that much, but the desktop version will play almost anything I throw at it!

VLC Player for PPC
Hi, am looking out for a ppc player which could play .VOB formats without conversion. I believe VLC Player can do the job. TCPMP is not supporting VOB. Help anyone? thanks.

Yeah. There is only VLC Remote wich allows u to control VLC running on your pc/Mac via your PPC. And VLC Remote is only for WebOS (as i could find).

are these «nightly's» automatically generated by some software daily? if not, then who's posting them? or rather, wth are they? I cant figureout how to install them. whatever this vlc for winmo is, not holding my breath for it. I just wish vlc for android gets released soon, as it was announced last month but is still nowhere to be found. all I need is the ability to time stretch (fast playback speed at normal pitch/tone), but so far there's still no mobile programthat can do this on either WinMo or Android. sigh..

Recorded videos on my Hermes won't play on PC!!

Okay, I'm not sure what the deal is. I just realized that the videos I record on my Hermes won't play on my PC. I've tried different codecs for it, as I have wmp11, and I have tried different media players, but the only thing that will play the videos I record on my phone is wmp10 on the phone itself!!! This is nuts! I don't want to just view them on my phone!! Does ANYBODY know a work around for this??? I don't want to have to move the videos I take onto my PC so I have space on my storage cards, and then have to move them all back to my phone when I want to watch them!! Please help!!!!
install KMPlayer on PC
Install KLM mega codec pack (free ). Should support most codecs and is better, & less painful to use than WMp ....
Cheers...
Awesome. I'm going to try it, but does either of you know if there is a codec that will allow me to watch the videos on wmp11 on my PC?? I'm assuming the klm codec will have it's own player to watch them. I want to be able to share the videos with friends. Should I get a decoder??

Okay, both of you are AWESOME!!!! I was completely wrong!! The videos play perfectly in wmp11!!! Not what I was expecting at all!!! Gracias BIG TIME!!!
No worries... KLM Codec packs just give the pc the codecs so ALL players can utilize them unlike standalone players that may have proprietry codecs...
Cheers...

GPU Video Player

Its well documented that Core player (this forums media player of choice) only uses CPU for play back and doesnt utilise any GPU acceleration.
Do you know of any players out there that use both GPU and CPU for vid processing?
Smart Movie from lonely cat games is pretty decent any one got an opinion on that as a media player?
Would I be right in assuming that using GPU over CPU to play back video will have a good effect on the battery life, or will powering that screen outweigh any benefits.
Windows media player and the htc album player both use gpu playback on the codecs they support i cannot remember the ones that definately have it. Im sure someone else will or go find the default ones, post and i may be able to remember from that list instead.
any way of installing "codecs" to the standard players then ? since they use both cpu and gpu wich coreplayer dosent ...
That's a very good question I have tried coreplayer and tcpmp and too be honest I am not that impressed by them.
+1 for being able to use additional codecs via WMP.
I just want to be able to play xvids!! Really shouldn't be too difficult in the days where Windows 7 supports them naively on my laptop
I'm using Touch HD.
I have used this tool to convert videos to MP4: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467112
And play them using Album.

Hi there - thanks for the tip. However, personally I don't want to have to go to the trouble of converting etc. I generally have all of my videos in xvid format as this is a fairly universal format (sometimes play them on my Media Centre, sometime on others Xbox 360s etc), so just want to be able to play these on my HD2!

[Q] How to play mpeg

Hi,
I have a HD2, and I just realized that I cannot play mpeg movies with the integrated Windows Media Player. I have done some research and I installed TCPMP 0.72RC1 with aac codec, but it does not seem to work.
Can someone explain what I should do to play mpeg movies?
PS: I searched a little more and I found this link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=631061&highlight=TCPMP
Both of these versions seem to work, but the buttons "Start, Pause, etc." in the center botton area are not visible... Maybe, it's only me.. Anyway, they work..

you could try this skinnable version, works perfect form me
the Windows Media player included with the phone can play MP3/4 files just fine. Are you sure that you are using the right profile?
I have encoded 300+ movies that I have on DVD and the HD2 plays them just fine with an average bit rate it 2mbps

hd movies dont have any sound?

hi all, I tried to play a 720p avi movie on windows 8 today but there was no sound. I booted back to windows 7 and tried again and the sound works.
I would like to make it work on windows 8. does anyone have any idea why this is happening?
Thanks everyone!
The magic word here is "codecs". Haven't used Windows 8 myself but I am pretty sure you need an AC3 or DTS codec depending on the movie you are trying to watch. It also depends on which player you are trying to watch the movie with. Try using Media Player Classic - Home Cinema Edition which has all the codecs needed to watch HD material. If, however, you don't want to change players, then install ffdshow or ac3filter. These codecs will work with any Directshow player.
Codecs would be one issue. What software are you using to play the film?
it may be only a codec issue, i just tested some Avi movies i have and i found some had sound and some dont.
But like in Win7, in this Dev Preview I installed my regular player PotPlayer.
and you wouldn't have any trouble since it has codecs included.
of course other player may do the job.
but you can get Potplayer english version from here:
http://www.dvbsupport.net/download/index.php?act=category&id=16
vlc will play most of the hd movies. And yoiu might not need codecs
Thanks for everyones help. I just installed ac3 codec and sound is working perfectly in windows media player.
