EVO's mini-HDMI port. Audio? - EVO 4G General

We all know the EVO has a mini-HDMI port, but what I'm concerned about is audio.
Is the EVO able to output multi-channel (surround sound) audio, or is it limited to simply stereo audio?
Obviously I'll be hooking this phone up to my home theater, so this question lingers as I contemplate how this phone will fit in. Obviously mini-HDMI in and of itself is wonderful, but if it can output surround sound, this phone truly has everything.
Anyone have an answer to this question?

Don't know, but it should.

eww you still use hardware, just get it implanted in your brain already

Not Sure of multichannel audio.
The MiniHDMI port does indeed send audio. The native youtube and gallery app do it just fine.
HDIwIn has an option in the advanced settings that lets you route phone audio as well.
I'm not sure about multichannel audio. I have tried it, but the native audio do not support multichannel audio nor does it support any kind of dolby decoding.
I assume someone could code up an app that correctly outputs (decodes dolby streams) multichannel audio over HDMI since miniHDMI supports it. I haven't found such an app.
Anybody else have luck with getting multichannel audio going over Evo's HDMI?

I've used the hdmiwin app, but only connected the audio directly to the tv. I have a hdmi switcher that can route it through the 5.1 sound system before going to the tv, I'll try it tonight. I'm curious what will happen.

It's Micro-HDMI, not mini.
And no, the evo will not output 5.1 channel audio, only 2 channel

Ya, I wish my Nexus One can do that too, considering how my Nokia N85 has video out via 3.5mm. I can make use of the same cable that came with my Nokia
Why would you want this? You'd still be stick with crappy composite video out, and either lose ability for headset controls or have some complicated switch/check mechanism to handle in/out. Just my 2 cents...

Ya boohoo... this is my only hangup on nexus atm. I really want video out! I wonder if it's possible someone could make some sort of USB adapter to provide video output.
I'm so sad there will be no nexus 2 either gonna be stuck with a carrier-gimped phone at some point if I want this.
"cyanogen: The Bluetooth HID support in CM6 by @0xdroid is pretty slick. With HDMI out, we'll be using our phones as media centers."
Dreams do come true
Wonder how things will change with CAT6 set to take over for HDMI. Will there be a mini-RJ45 connector that phones can use for video and data? That'd be neat-o bandito.

Can someone who already has an SGS II, test and comment on whether headphones with a mic *and* music controls (eg play/pause/ff/rw) work?

I'm not asking about the standard headphones that ship with the SGS II. I'm asking someone with an SGS II to test aftermarket headphones that have the controls.
I think it same as original galaxy s, the media button for aftermarket earphone will not work with this phone, samsung 3.5mm jack really special...
Question...
Hey, for those already with SG2, can I use my iPod headphones w/ mic with this handset?
Please let me know, thank you.,

If possible also specify the exact make and model. There's at least two different pin-out for headsets (iPhone style and Nokia style) and at most one of those will work properly with any given Android phone.
I am wondering this as well. I'm hoping its the Iphone style so I can use my Etymotic HF-2's, or any other decent head set with this phone. I am thinking there is a good chance it is the Iphone style, seeing as that what the Nexus S had, but it would be nice for someone to confirm and not just speculate.
Thats shyttt... No audio controls with the Headphone? I gotta pull the phone out every time to switch the track?
WTF? this costs as much as an iphone and the headphones doesnt have music controls? that sucks bigtime!

when you say "samsung uses..." is that in reference to this device in particular, or Samsung in general? Have you tested the SGSII headphone jack yourself? Thanks for the info btw.
Oh you guys are silly!
I haven't tried headphones with music controls yet (gonna have to fish around for my old HTC's) but try double clicked and triple clicking the button on the one's Sammy give you. For me it skips tracks (at least in Spotify) and has done on all versions of Gingerbread I've tried.
I'm using the Griffin iTalk so I can answer calls and skip tracks with a decent set of 'phones.
htc desire's headphone works perfectly.
i use the bose MIE2 mobile phone headset with inline mic and single button, costs 140 bucks and the quality is superb on these things. its designed for generic mobile phones, and works just fine on the nexus one and most other phones that support the standard.
are we saying teh galaxys s2 will not support this? it just uses a single button, double tap to FF, triple tap to RW, etc. and then single tap to answer a call, pause music, etc. best headset ever to get for your phone. i'd imagine this would have to work with samsung, how could they leave this out when all other phones support this?
Tested with Ultimate Ears 5vi which are iPhone compatible.
With default music player only play/pause (single press) and next track (double press) works, this was tge same as the Nexus S.
PowerAmp has a setting to enable triple press which skips to previous track. This app is worth the cost as it has settings to customise the player anyway you could want. Best feature is auto resume on A2DP connect, when getting in the car no need to remove phone from pocket or bag or touch cars music controls, plays from where it left off

[Q] stupid question? - airplay?

I have recently changed my iphone to a nexus 4 and wondered if there is any way i can stream/play music to my Bose airplay speaker.
I am aware that the bose has a 3.5mm input but would love to be able to connect to it and play stuff wireless.
Is there any application/way i can do this?
thanks
Not sure if there is an airplay replicating app. You could plug a Bluetooth dongle into the audio in of the speaker and use Bluetooth for wireless streaming but not a very elegant solution.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
That's the problem when Apple decides to do their special stuff, or in this case take already implemented stuff and change it ever so slightly that you need a Apple device to get it work and the original standard isn't compatible anymore. WIFI Direct is what Airplay is made up from and the Nexus 4 (and all newer devices) can do it just fine (or even older devices with apps) but there's nothing for AirPlay because that's Apple tech and only theirs.
As mentioned though, the bluetooth to 3.5MM dongle is your only bet now with those speakers or just get some bluetooth speakers in general and those will work with everything - Apple devices included.
Try iplay in the play store. I know there is an app for apple TV that works. Kinda limited but works. Iplay claims to have speaker headset functionality but its not 100% clear if that is only to the device or from device to speakers. Anyway just search airplay in the play store and see if one works
thanks for the reply guys, went for the Bose airplay speaker over the bluetooth version as sound quality form the blueetoth was poor at the time and this seemed better, however, with no longer having the iphone it kinda loses its functionality as the only way i can now use it is to plug into the 3.5mm jack or i guess buy an ipod touch.
Bit of a pain as i was hoping to have all my music in the cloud (google music) and be able to access it from there.
Doubletwist has the ability to stream to airplay. I think you need to purchase it as a module though. I've used in on someone else's phone before and it worked exactly as you'd expect.

Change it ever so slightly? You mean... make it work. I have used Airplay for years and it is flawless, and very high quality. Still waiting for something remotely comparable on Android.
You could try AppleTV AirPlay Media Player from the Play store.
I haven't used it. But at least it is free. Give it a whack!
Hello everyone. I just got one these Bose airplay for Christmas but like some of you I have an Android device. Can anyone please confirm a working solution app for this? Any shared experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Thanks for all the replies guys, it seems there are some possible solutions then. I have tried to 'Google it' also but most air play topics I came up with seemed to be around streaming video/pictures to your TV. I am really just after the ability to stream music content to my new Bose speaker. I know ways of getting my iTunes music etc on my android phone OK. Just want to be able to play it on my airplay speaker. Would be great if I were able to play things like Google music, spotify and tunelin radio also.
Any working suggestions really appreciated.

HDMI issues real? (about to buy)

First of all, I've read the prior threads, but my question is contextual, so please bear with me.
I currently have an Acer 500 which I use for web, email, RSS on a daily basis. On trips the HDMI-out is a lifesaver in the evening at the hotel, as anyone with kids will attest to.
In the spirit of Father's Day the Boss has authorized an upgrade, handing the A500 down to my kids for homework use.
I understand there are 2 HDMI issues with the N10:
- Scaling
(fixed in Videos and MXPlayer, and possibly with newly discovered code/app)
- Compatibility
no sound via HDMI
no video with certain TVs
I don't care about scaling, and can live with letterboxed video.
Just how bad are the TV compatibility issues, really? I know HDCP can wreak havoc between devices, but both the Acer and SGIII have worked well with every TV I've tried them with; I have decent cables/adapters. Is the problem a connector issue, or is there an inherent issue with the N10 HDMI pathway hardware? If' it's just the plug, I can return it until I get one that works. If it's the intrinsic hardware, this would be a show stopper for me.
Again, I know the prior threads on this issue, but I'm trying to gauge if this is an unfixable issue for most people.
TIA.
From what I've heard and seen, compatibility with older Panasonic-based TV's (VIERA for example) might be somewhat bad. The VIERA TV I have has working video, but no audio. Some no-name HDMI TV my friend has (can't think of the actual name) works fine for both video and audio.
Not sure if there's any general rule or anything that determines compatibility though, or how other devices handle TV's...

HDMI with video and audio work perfectly fine to most things, the problem is not that HDMI simply doesnt work but rather that certain companies do not conform to all standards properly and this causes compatibility issues. As Espionage said, Panasonic's are the big one with no audio, and Sony Bravia's also tend to have issues. I use my Nexus 10 to go into my Onkyo receiver which then passes video on to my Panasonic plasma and audio goes to my speakers. It works perfect except for the obvious scaling issue because it is not trying to send a 1080p signal. That is easy enough to live with or you can do the workaround to make it perfect if you really care that much.
The thing that sucks though is just that hotels have all sorts of TV brands, so compatibility will just be hit and miss depending on which models of TV they choose to have.
Most of the time , hdmi doesnt have sound .
Many incompatibility tv s .
I personally have a pan 30gt ... No sound .

and what is the price ? im looking for something in good price i found some from connection lab and try to find out if its really good
Guys, Can anyone confirm if Nexus 10 needs to charging for the HDMI out to work? My nexus 10 doesn't output via HDMI if its not connected to power.
I get no sound through my Viera too, it's pretty damn annoying actually. Regardless of their HDMI 'compatibility restrictions' or whatever, all other devices work correctly with it including my Galaxy S3 and a whole assortment of cameras, PC's and gaming consoles. Hoping for a fix in 4.3.
connectionlab is good!
So far so good. Couple of days ago I asked you about connectionlab brand, but since I have no responses I thought I'll give a chance and bought ConnectionLAB HDC-10 Premium 10m HDMI CABLE. Is beautiful!
I have to say that I'm really pleased with my new baby. Seriously, you get a good quality for a good price. My friend bought a cheap hdmi cable and sait it broke down into 2 after 15 minutes! But this one from connectionlab seems like a good choice

This is now the 3rd LG phone in a row to completely suck on bluetooth audio quality, my G Pro did, and the Optimus before it also. I have the AT&T version, using bluetooth headphones its not as much of an issue. In cars or on a louder higher quality audio system is where it really shows up. Ive used two diff samsung phone and an iphone 5 that sounded perfect. Even using the wired line in to the car, the volume nearly has to be maxed to have the same level as a iphone on meduim.
I want to like this phone but music is something i do all the time in the car. I had high hopes with LG saying they were putting all this high quality audio in it, but it still sounds like **** compared to other phones.

It is a proprietary standard for CD quality bluetooth.

I am also having issues w/ bluetooth in my car. I can get it connected, but it doesn't seem to want to stay connected. Mid song, the car stereo will all of a sudden drop the connection and switch to a different input ("normal" behavior when the source is disconnected. Acts the same way if you disconnect ipod from USB cable). I had an iphone 4s & Lumia 920 that did not act this way prior to my G2. Anyone try to OTA update to see if it improved things?

What year and model is your BMW and what system do you have in it? I agree with the origional post saying the quality is noticable crappy with my BMWs sound system (2013 X1 with HK and idrive). My Note II sounded perfect but my G2 sounds terrible. Especially if I crank it. I would really appreciate it if anyone had a solution because if not this otherwise great phone will have to go back
I'm a bit of an audiophile so being able to have my FLAC files is nice. I realize that Bluetooth obviously isn't streaming raw PCM, but having good quality source material can help. That and it just makes me feel better knowing.
I just wish I could navigate beyond the current playlist using the controls on the steering wheel. I have a "menu" button, but's greyed out. Same with the old GNex. I have a feeling the car is design specifically to work best with an iPhone.

Just got the lgg2 and the phone and streaming music via Bluetooth work fine in my car [2013 BMW]. However, when connected to the car via Bluetooth, neither the phones mic nor the car mic work for voice commands [like for dictating an email or text or google searches]. Probably a deal killer for me unless I can find a solution. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as otherwise I really like the phone.

The music is fuzzy or has a hiss or something. It just isn't clear and crisp like on my note ii or my friends iphones. It is most noticeable when the music get busy (bass treble and voice all at once). If I switch to the headphone jack it sounds great again but that defeats the purpose of the bluetooth and audio controls. Out of curiosity do you ever use slacker radio? I am having issues where I can't skip tracks using the car controls like i could on the note ii.
Does anyone know if we can fix this? Modify the bluetooth bitrate or add an additional profile? Any help would be greatly appreciated. If I can't get this fixed in the 14 day return period I will have to find a different phone. I would be happy to pay someone to make a fix. Thanks!

Does anyone have some code to fix this?, im sure this is something the phone will need rooted to install and im open to doing that. I have two G2s and both have the same issue, the company phone obviously I wont root, but the personal phone I just want to improve it to at least what other older smartphones were able to do

I always play music in my car and I had the GNex. My G2 sounds way better and is louder, I use bluetooth with the (aptx?) spec receiver.
I noticed that when I first used bluetooth for music playback, it sounded fantastic. After using it for a little bit, the sound degraded and it now sounds, well, poor. So... I'm guessing I'm just going to have to go buy an aux cable.
