AOSP Keyboard... - EVO 4G General

Will it be possible to install an AOSP keyboard on the EVO? I have one on my Hero, but the only one I could find is a .zip that had to be flashed..... I do not like the Stock keyboard as I find it slow....

"better keyboard" from market = aosp keyboard IMO

Just My 2 cents
As good as I have found better keyboard to be, it's not quite the same as the AOSP one. If you do a xda search for "keyboard aosp" and go to the first link and download the keyboard from that thread you should be good to go. Once you have downloaded the file to your sd card, you can use a program like Astro to install the apk from the .zip. Hope that helps as late as my post is!
You will have to tell sense to use the android keyboard as the new default input. To do that simply open up the keyboard (browser, messaging, whatever) and long press the white space. You will be given the option to switch from there.

Wing Keyboard

The keyboard (virtual) on my Wing is the one that I use and like. I want the 4 rows of keys like a normal keyboard. Meaning, 123.... top row, then qwerty next 3 rows. I don't like the ones that are ABC or 123. I also like the way my words are saved and stored for quick recognition. Where is this keyboard located in the Wing? I would like to copy it and the Dictionary to another phone.
I have tried all the other keyboards such as SPB, Rescoe, Interkey, etc., and do not like them.
Thank you!
I dont know how or where to get the stock htc keyboard you are looking for but I did want to make a recomendation, have you tried "BJK HTC EzInput Full Keyboard?" if i am not mistaken its what the latest htc models are rolling out with. Search this forum for it and give it a try all you do is download and install the cab for the keyboard and then the language cab and your set to go.

Thank you. I will try it out.

A Keyboard that has all these requirements:

Ok i know many people are in love with the hero keyboard but the problem is the lag. i stopped using it because when i type in landscape mode it just becomes so laggy, it would type and it would take forever for it to catch up. but the thing i love about it, i can use the trackball to select the correct words. there are some "optimized" HTC_IME's that disable the autocorrection but thats stupid, i need the autocorrection. i tried the default keyboard and i actually like it, BUT i cant select words with the trackball, that is important to me. so what keyboard does these things:
1) no lag
2) has autocorrection
3) able to select words with the trackball
4) saving words you enter into dictionary and suggest it first
So basically a "betterkeyboard" with trackball selection.
ive tried betterkeyboard, but it doesnt give me the option to select the autocorrect word, or scroll through them with my trackball, i gotta use my finger and its uncomfortable like that. can anyone recommend an alternative if there even is one? thanks!

HTC default Keyboard on Cyanogen ROM
Hello I’m using the MoDaCo-sapphire Hero image on the MT3G, and it is painfully slow. I was wondering if the default HTC keyboard is usable on any of the Cyanogen builds. If so can anyone point me in the right direction to add it to Cyanogen 4.2.5? I love using any variant of the Hero builds, but they lag, are resource hogs, and my battery becomes mush. I just love their default keyboard which is easier to use, and it should be even faster on a lean ROM such as Cyanogens. Thanks.

Here's the link to the keyboard. Just download it and install it using an app installer. The keyboard is pretty fast, but as the OP said, it lags, but not as bad as hero roms.

yes this is the same one that is giving me issues. man i really wish the betterkeyboards had a scroll selection. any other opinions before i call it quits?
perhaps someone can explain to me how i can install an HTC_IME that has been optimized by eugene. its in his latest ROM, i successfully extracted it but it wont install. im sure i can do it through adb, anyone have the codes?
a suggestion...
I found another one recently which I believe is better with less bugs than betterkeyboard... its called "asoftkeyboard" its free on market... and its got almost every language support...
betterkeyboard started giving me bugs depending on roms and stuff so i tried this.. and absolutely love it... keys are kind of small though...
but try that guys...

Just thought I'd ask - which rom are you using? I don't get any lag with HTC IME.
You should really check out TouchPal from Cooltek. It has all functions you requested.

Few questions about stock Dialer and Keyboard

My TMO Nexus One should be here Tuesday. I've played around with various android versions on my HTC Pure. My neighbor/friend has the N1 and 2 things I think I am concerned about is the Dialer and Keyboard.
The HTC Dialer and Keyboard is really nice. Can I just install them as packages vs having to flash the whole rom? Being a WM chef I know the Keyboard and Dialer can be complicated packages to move from device to device... but figured I'd research it before hand.
All my searching points to its not out yet... but they were from like Feb. Any update?
The HTC keyboard can just be added by installing an app. And a better speed dialpad called dial one is free in the market.
Dialer one is a kick ass dialer and installs and uninstalls like any other app. Swype would be my choice of keyboard. Check the thread down in apps for the latest download links.
yea I found Dial One. Seems like a good alternative. I don't like Swype. I used to cook it in my roms for a while there but found the HTC keyboard has a better dictionary.
I can probably get by with Dial One and the HTC keyboard app. Thanks!

HTC Evo keyboard for xTarantula build??

Hi.
Anyone able to get the HTC IME.apk to install to the xtarantula build? I tried to install it but i am getting the error that i don't have an htc device lol....
...anyone have a workable apk that will install??
thanks in advance
btw, the HTC keyboard i'm referring to is similar to the winmo hd2 keyboard, the one with the directional arrows
Might not be the answer you are looking for but I have to say that the Kb u want is laggy and somehow lacking responsiveness. there are other options you could try like Smart Keyboard Pro. It has themes, which I find to be very sense-like.
About the Kb u want, it might be due to the senseless build.
You should be able to find what you want from this thread, sans the directional arrows (I've been looking for that version myself):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624416
just make sure to install the keyboard & clicker intended for your version of Android.

Thanks. I already was able to install the htc without the directional arrows. kinda missing the arrows though
i have the apk of the kb with arrows as well but wouldn't install as it is signed i guess.... if you come across another apk and it installs please let me know.
thanks!!

[KEYBOARD]If you don't like the sense keyboard...

EDIT: The keyboard seems to always crash on Mdeejay's Desire HD build v4.0 and I do not know why. Give me some time to sort this out. Thanks
I posted this thread because I didn't see anything similar, maybe someone else doesn't like the sense keyboard too, so I'll just post it.
If you were anything like me, you liked sense, but hated that damned sense keyboard, well I have just bothered to put the stock Android keyboard on my DarkStone Sense V3.1 and it works.
Step 0 (optional) = Download a second keyboard from the Android Market (such as AnySoftKeyboard) so you can still have a keyboard to use if anything goes wrong.
Step 1 = Download the file for the keyboard
Step 2 = Use Root Explorer (I recommend it)(Or whatever else you can make work) to copy the files into the system.
LatinImeGoogle.apk goes into system/app
libjni_latinime.so goes into system/lib
libjni_latinime.so will ask to overwrite the existing file, (it doesn't on some builds) overwrite it, if anything bad happens the original .so is in my backups .rar for you to download.
Step 3 = Long press a text box and hit input method. Android keyboard should be on that list.
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
I will also attach the original files in case you mess up and are stuck with no keyboard. (I did it... was no fun.)
My edited method leaves you with the HTC keyboard as well (need feedback on what builds do this)

when i try to copy the HTC_IME.apk, any ideas why?
and also this makes me lose the original keyboard too, as the HTC_IME will be replaced by a 0 byte file
Swype, that's the ticket. There's also the XDA-improved HTC keyboard, which is plenty nice
I had the same problem what i did Is that i Navigated to The media folder in the system folder Then i deleted a couple of Ringtones that i don't really use, And that Freed some space for me to copy these files

Installing it works pretty much the same way except you have to rename the keyboard file (I think I already did that for everyone in my upload)

Cab files are installation files for windows mobile, not android.

You looked in the /system/lib/ folder?
I'm not exactly sure what it does but I do know it is necessary.
