HTC Hero Official G1 Release?

Hi,
I am new to this forum and would just like to know if anyone has any idea if there will be an official release of the HTC Hero's UI on to the G1.
I have heard that it will be available for all other Android and Windows Mobile phones except the G1.
Please let me know.

Pretty doubtful I think because it uses HTC's custom libraries to create the user interface, while the G1 was officially shipped using open source code available in the cupcake branch. Some devs are adding features though from the donut branch also whick keeps us G1 users up to date with the latest features but eventually the hardware will get limited to support these additions.
I've not actually tried out a Hero build myself but from the threads posted about it so far, the ports to the G1 are still pretty slow and bloated, especially the widgets.

The answer, sadly, is no - HTC has confirmed that the Sense UI will not be ported to any device that is branded "with Google" such as the G1 or MyTouch 3G.

Won't it be ported to the Roger's G1 though? That's not a "with google" phone.

its already been semi ported. If you have rooted your phone you can already install a Hero Rom on your G1, although there are some things missing like bluetooth, it is getting updated almost daily.

HTC confirmed to be cooking up Android 2.0 update for Hero

Anyone with an existing Android device and a nasty case of DROID envy today might want to hold off before switching devices, emptying the bank account, and possibly switching carriers in the process, because HTC's got a little bit of information here to end our day on a high note. Here's the full quote:
"Yes, we are working on an Eclair update for the HTC Hero. Because Eclair is a significantly enhanced release, it will require some time to update Sense for this new version of the Android OS. Please be patient while we work to provide you with a tightly integrated experience like the one you are already enjoying on your Hero."
Bottom line, the Hero is signed up for Android 2.0 and it's just a matter of HTC getting Sense ported and tested -- makes sense (no pun intended), and we imagine Motorola will have to go through these same hoops with BLUR. The company went on to mention that it intends to bring the update to all versions of the Hero, though it's up to partners (like Sprint, for instance) to help coordinate how and when that's going to go down. We don't have any information on the sundry Dream and Magic variants around the world at this point -- but it's important to remember that the Hero uses the same processor as its older siblings, so at least there's hope for a good xda-developers port if nothing else.

so im assuming all heros meaning even cdma (sprint)will get the 2.0 update also?

whats required to maintain it?

Uploading roms, apps and in near future, add mods, language files, kernels etc.

i can help out with the evo also, did something essentially similar for the moment with a few more options than i saw for the nexus one.
setup an alpha for the evo a month back, but perhaps we could work together. i'd be very curious to see the code and functions used in your version and perhaps find some synergies! great job on the online kitchen!

Porting the Evo 3D's Mail client to the Evo 4G

I have an Evo 4G and my wife has an Evo 3D. I found out that her Email client (Sense 3.0) can finally do push HTML email for Hotmail using Exchange ActiveSync, which the Evo 4G's email client can't do (neither can the stock Android client).
Is there a way to port the Mail client from the Evo 3D to the Evo 4G? The only other solution if you want Hotmail + Push in HTML is TouchDown, which is kind of pricey. All other apps can only do push Hotmail as plain text, which isn't all that great.

what software is your EVO 4g using?
anything 2.2 and below can be rooted , and flashed with a custom rom, you can check out ALLIANCEROM wich is pretty cool and puts most of the new sense stuff i believe on the evo, but i recommend just checking out the roms available with newer sense for rooted evos..
if you are stuck in the "i updated to the OTA official and now i cant root it " boat like many of us are...then no, you cant do it...yet....keep checking to see when they develop the root for it but for now there is no method to root the new gingerbread on evos

Looking for beta testers to test on app with camera issues

Dear all, we just manage to release What's My Heart Rate ver 1.5, with attempt to fix on HTC EVO 4G with sense and HTC EVO 4G with CM7.
It is an app, which uses camera to detect face micro color changes, and calculate your heartbeat based on micro color changes.
As we hardly can get such device right in our country, we drop by here, to see whether we can have any volunteer beta tester (HTC EVO 4G) on our app.
We hope someone may try to run the app on HTC EVO 4G with sense, and HTC EVO 4G with CM7
