THERE WILL BE BLOOD
ICD Gemini Tablet
Gemini has beautiful 11.2" screen, compared to iPad’s 9.7" – a whole 1.5" larger diagonally. This gives us 8.38 square inches of extra viewing space to ogle at.
But this is just the beginning. Gemini specs include:
an ultra-fast dual core nVidia Tegra 2 1GHz CPU
a 3G connection with voice, SMS, and MMS support
2 cameras – 5MP autofocus on the back and 2MP fixed focus on the front – hey, that’s way more than even my desktop’s webcam has!
a GPS – the iPad doesn’t have any
a user replaceable 40Wh battery compared to iPad’s 25Wh one
an SD card reader
support for playing 1080P video
a promise to support Adobe Flash which is not too shocking considering this is an Android platform
dual speakers AND dual microphones for noise cancellation
FM radio
USB ports – iPad doesn’t even have any
a 1366 x 768 pixel resolution
Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, infrared
Android (of course, why else would we talk about it here?)
11.8" x 7.5" x 6" dimensions
If you dont know everything about the EVO then slap yourself now

I missed all that and am stuck staring at your GIF.
is there a TL;DR version?

The Evo is a very interesting device. For sure when it comes time to upgrade it'll be my device of choice.

I'm definitely not getting the EVO. I might if it didnt have Sense UI but its just not worth all that money. My next phone is gonna be the Nexus... and it has a trackball too.

TL;DR : ICD Gemini Tablet > iPad; HTC EVO > *

These two devices are not even remotely the same. Can you imagine holding something larger than an iPad up to your face to make phone calls?
One is a phone, one is not. Why the comparison?
Epic GIF though.

I need a phone with computer like abilities more than a computer with phone like abilities. The Gemini is too big to just carry around everywhere you go.

evo for me!!!!

IT HAS A 3G RADIO CAPABLE OF VOICE CALLS. THATS A PHONE. I like a full keyboard and i can make vid calls why would i put it by my face? Google it, if you dont realize how sick it is, then you are most likely ill. How many phones
do you know of with dual core 1ghz processors? Not that many right.......
And if you can add 1+1, then youd realize this is not a comparison, i was making those unaware, aware of an awesome piece of tech. Sorry to see you missed the point by leaps and bounds.
and yeah the funniest part of the gif is when he shoots the little girl

That Gemini will be hard to fit in your pocket......lol

Even though the Gemini is pretty cool device... when I want to purchase a mobile device... I'm going to look for a mobile device, not a tablet. Even if it can make phone calls and such... it isn't portable and it no longer becomes a feasible mobile device in my eyes.
The Evo has large enough screen, especially at 4.3"... it'll be the biggest screen in the mobile/smart phone scene. So, with that instead, I still plan on getting the Evo over any device as of right now.

Thanks for the good info on the Gemini Tablet but I think your gif is sick.

The funny part of the gif is the whole thing.
This inspires an analogy. Apple is like the spoiled rich kid who has everything he wants when he's young and android is the middle class kid who worked his ass off to achieve something great and is now shining light on the fact that apple has been blowing daddys money on over priced crap his whole life.
Android... Im speechless, just awesome!

When you decided to put the "vs" in there. you turned it into a comparison. Along with deciding between the two. They're two completely different devices, that's the same as deciding between a laptop and a phone. Calling capabilities doesn't make it a phone since you can technically make calls from your home pc or laptop. Both great devices, but not sure why you'd choose one over the other. If it's a phone you need, evo, if it's a tablet you want, gemini. simple

I'm sure there will be a great custom rom without sense and if not you could just disable it. The evo has the nexus beat in everything.

best mobile device out there

Any of you thins is there any device (or device + phone combination perhaps) out there or coming shortly better than the Athena platform?
If so which one and why, what device would make you to ditch your dear Athena if any, and expend your hard earned cash in something new?
My device is dead cold and I been looking around and failed to be excited with the new iTOY 3G or the 7510, the Samsung Omnia looks kind of interesting, no devices with a 5"screen which is something I love on the athena, so probably my best bet will be a reasonable priced second hand Advantage....or a cheapo thing and wait a few months to see what's new? or iTOY and other mobile device companion?
If somebody think is worth to make this thread a poll and attach that colour bars at the top please do so

Samsung OMNIA... very strange resolution=problems for SURE
Imate 9502? May be...
Raphael is the best choice IMHO but athena is far better
It is simple: software could be developed from users, but Hardware don't. And Athena is STILL the best hardware in the WM business

Totally agree with you.
5 inch screen is so important. I can surf the net without having to zoom in and out which drives me crazy after a while.
Standard aspect ratio is very important for the sake of getting software.
My acer Aspire One has ousted my Athena as my web browser. Check it out online somewhere, it realy is small, btu never pocket size. Best netbook there is in my opinion.
But if youre looking for another pocket device, my vote goes to the Raphael/X1. Although, the athena screen is so big you will probably miss it.

Acer Aspire One could not be practically brought alone with you all the time, is not instant on, does not have long enough battery, cannot be used without a table or chair, ...
Raphael. The screen is too small. Movies, internet, Softmakerall need bigger screen to be enjoyable.
I agree with you both,
The reason Omnia called my attention was that it match Athena specs and in some case add better ones,16Gb internal memory and memory slot good camera, Fm radio that works with the GSM, the haptics touch screen gimmic and the funky graphics
still no 5" screen and funny resolution that remains to be seen how well it works.
The 9502 looks Ok but not worth to compare with Athena (also the advantage looks better IMO) and the Raphael/Diamond devices, the same thing.
Why after a year there is no better device than Athena bugs my, not for technical reasons for sure.
I LOVE my 5 inch screen....sooo sweet!

Market... still not "mature" and IPHONE is the perfect example.
BT blocked to avoid file transfers, no way to download anything from browser, no file explorer, eeven no easy way to set an MP3 as ringtone... SUCCESS ???
Sorry folks, we are ALIENS from the future and the market is for Neanderthal men, we are looking for a beautiful lighter in a place were the fire was just discovered!
I just bought a HTC Advantage x7501 this last week. While I was looking the only thing that came close for me were the upcoming MID's. Though, I don't think they take sim cards (not sure). But, I wasn't looking for the mobile phone aspect of a mobile device. They also run Linux although there might be some that come out with Windows Mobile.
I am happy with my Advantage, it's a great upgrade from my Dell Axim x51v.
I just won the bidding on ebay so an "less than 2 moths old as new Advantage"should be on my way, hopefully all is right and everything goes as expected
soo back on course.
My problem with MID and similar devices is the ridiculous battery life, I was looking at the QPQ2, real use battery life just over 2H but al least there is a battery on sale with twice the capacity for that device.
Cheers
Indeed it is very true that the one isn't practical to carry around, but if you have even a small bag with you it can easily be stored. My mum even commented that when i'm at uni it will be good because it won't look like I have a laptop in my bag, it'll just look like a normal bag.
Although I do admit I was a bit silly suggesting it, I should have known he really wanted a ppc.

Not at all, you make a very valid point, indeed with some laptop devices becoming very portable and affordable it is a real possibility to carry a "real computer" and a mobile phone, some peple mentioned eee pc and a celular in other threads.
besides the opinion of the people about possible devices out there is the idea of this thread in the first place
cheers
Athena against Idildo?
I'm not an expert but do NOT change your Athena against an I-garbage. It is a gadget for apple fans. I had one for one week before selling it away.
Cheers.
I made the choiceto get an iPhone, and it does everything I need in such a cool manner. Well cool if you're 18, everyone loves it... I would love to be able to share it's internet to my laptop though...
Anyways as always a mattr of personal choice.

hi, so im not the only one that have these kind of thought's and idea's.
i was thinking about buying a netbook like the msi wind and having a (more or less) small phone like the raphael only for the situations when the netbook is not with me. even if that means i have to drop my 'one device for all situations' idea .
so i played around with a friends diamond (should be the same screensize as raphael or?), but i cannot get warm with this solution, not only because wasting money for 2 devices that are used to do similar things.
so i sitdown and wait for htc (or someone else) to do the trick and bring a raphael like device but with a 3.8" screen, for me everything below a screensize of 3.8" (the size of my old htc universal) is to small to be used as 'one and only' device.

I will suggest MSI WInd and HTC S630. the 630 as phone is almost perfect: easy to fit in the pocket, cheap, full Kb, great opera mini, all (calendar, contacts, task) sync, landscape screen NON TOUCH (means no plastic film over MUCH better view, also considering the needs for a touch screen phone of a screen protection)
I fit in your jeans REAR pocket, or shirt's pocket, great (3g) for internet connection, add a small EXTERNAL GPS and TT6
If you need a TRUCK (MSI WInd) better to have a PANDA 4x4 TURBO ( HTC S630) as everyday's CAR
Sergiopi, you and me are evidently the same person...
iPhone and Athena, and both of us love cars... wow
lol
One thing, I wish I was able to put WM on my AAO, as its the best mobile OS there is. If it could be just like the Shift and the unlocked snapvue that would be awesome.

does the HTC EVO supports its own GRAPHICS CARD for smoothe 3d gameing?

jus wondering if the great EVO has its own GRAPHICS card for 3d gameing cuz i couldnt find any specs on it.if anyone knows that'll b nice.
The snapdragon has an integrated gpu.

hmmm..... that doesnt imply to the 3d gameing graphics card.its jus the fast processor which i already have on my hd2 with 1ghz snapdragon processer.the DROID has its own seperate 3D games graphics card so i was wondering if the EVO has anything like that.

Yes, it does answer your question. It would help if you had some idea what you were really asking about.
This is a "GRAPHICS CARD" next to the HTC EVO. Bear in mind that these are actual size.

That will not fit inside your phone, which is why it doesn't have one. What it does have is an integrated GPU like Sebrina said, a smaller chip inside the Snapdragon that specializes in 3D graphics. The Droid also has an integrated GPU, not its "own separate graphics card." I have no idea where that rumor started or why it's still being repeated. People say words without knowing what they mean, I guess. It is true, however, that the GPU found in the Droid's chip performs a bit better than the one found in the Snapdragon. And now you know.

thanx for clearing that up but i just want a phone with a smoothe 3d graphics specially when it comes to games.i have the wm hd2 which is horrible on the games compare to the games and the graphics on the iphone 3g and 3gs which comes with very large sized game files.im jus hoping the EVO has a good GPU.THANX
I think the question is how well does Android play games (in general) and what quality/quantity are and will be available. Some games play well on the HD2, but, from my understanding (I'm a HD2 owner who doesn't game) it's only a few that really shine in Winmo 6.5(x).
same thing can be said for android, there's only a handful that I would consider to be "graphic intensive"
They're coming though, just takes times... my magic 8 ball says 6 months to a year from now we should see some really nice games start to pop up

The second post in this thread answered your question.
Graphics capabilities.
Since this kinda applies to the topic of this thread. I'm curious how much better this snapdragon processor will handle (in theory) the graphic intensive activities so many of us want like games and high quality video playback without lag compared to say the Iphone or in my instance a old Touch Pro.
Since I remember hearing HTC skimped on the video driver support with Qualcom chip in the touch Pro giving us some slide show video on certain file types like FLV files. I personally am curious if this graphics solution on this phone is going to give me that buttery smooth experience I think we all hope and dream for from this phone?

I beg your pardon: Theories are not facts, nor do theories reflect actuality in any form. The facts are clear: I do not particularly like the iphone, but it has nothing to do with how well they function. They are well known to be the best gaming phone due to the deep support of the for profit developing community. Free is good, but not as good as good.
Finally, OP, do some research. It's not rocket science and I think that's what has a few people ruffled....it would have been so much easier to have figured it out on your own than withstand the ridicule you've received and at least in part, deserved, in this thread.
My apologies, my theory had nothing to do with you or your like or dislike of anything. I was just wanting community opinion of this new processor. I am interested in processing capability not wither or not the games are good. But wither or not the hardware has the ability and drivers are capable. Also I am most curious if the drivers will support the various video and audio codecs to make this a true multimedia phone unlike the touch pro I currently have.
You seem like a really nice person and I apologize for coming off as not so much so. I don't think you can do much better than an iphone.....there I said it and I have tears in my eyes for saying so. I just don't like how Apple locks the application availability (although there are tons and good quality) and user interface.
I almost feel like an idiot for not just sucking it up and getting one.....Nah, I am an idiot!

I have an EVO!

So I bought a EVO from a I/O attendee (much cheaper than they are going for on Ebay)... if anyone has any questions I'd be more than happy to answer any. I have no 4g, but I'm at work right now which is right next to Google, so I'm going to go out in a bit and see if I can latch onto the Mountain View 4g network...
First impression: Wow this is big. I never played with a HD2 in person or anything. I find it big enough I have to strain my thumb to reach across the screen for one handed operation... It's pretty fast though, my Hero is O/C'd to 768 and it is noticeably slower.

Some pics from my Hero:
These one's are big, and next to my ZuneHD.

3 main questions
1)screen toughness compared to hero? the hero has a beast of a screen,
2)is the onscreen keyboard noticeably better? hero screen is unusable imo in portrait with my monster hands
3)general fluidness of senseUI on the EVO? on a scale of buttery goodness from winmo(1) -> iphone (10) how would you rate it? Stock hero IMO being a 6-7
*realize possible flameage from winmo supporters... um... think of something not smooth in the mobile market like a G1 or somehting*
also after you get some time, real life battery consumption based off useage
Can you tell is about the battery? I have read that it uses the same one as the touch pro 2 which is the same one the hero uses. It would be great If it does.

I don't see any SIM slots, though where the MicroSD slot can look like one a bit, but the SD card is working, so i'll assume that's not a SIM slot

Not sure to what you mean by "toughness", I'm guessing scratch resistance? I'm not sure yet, I've been babying it to say the least, and going to put a screen protector on as soon as I can. Though it has the same feel as the Hero.

Well I'd rate the stock Hero at a 5, O/C Hero at 7, and this at 9. Always room for improvement.

Well it's charging right now so I don't wnat to pull it out, but my Hero one laying on top of that one, it looks to be the exact same size. Once charged, I'll swap them around and see if they work the same.

ARRRRRGGGGHHH! You're driving me crazy!!
I was looking on ebay earlier today and almost went for it a couple of times.
My wife has no idea that I am about to drop $500 on this phone (no upgrade discount) on the 4th. If she did, I would never hear the end of it!
So, looks like I will be waiting until the 4th with cash-in-hand.
Congratulations, really! I'm jealous as hell but happy for you also!

One of the perks of being next to google...
Actually a few of my interns from last summer work at google now, they don't have enough pull, but maybe in a few years I'll really get stuff early.
1. How's the Qik video calling feature? Are you able to use it yet?
2. Any out-of-the-box practical usage for the digital compass?
3. FM radio?
4. What's the built-in video player like? Have you tried playing any flv, avi, divx, xvid, h.264, etc., videos, either from internal memory or SD card?
5. How quickly does the GPS lock in on your position?
6. Have you downloaded any apps yet that stand out on the Evo's screen or hardware?
Finally, we are all very jealous at this point. We still have to wait a few weeks...
Thanks for the info on the batteries. That means I already have a charger and spare batteries for it!!
I do have one last request if it is possible. How does video quality compare with the zuneHD that you have? Do the videos look better on the evo or the zunehd?

I don't have any HD stuff on the Zune sadly, so it wouldn't be a fair comparison. I use it primarily in SD as i just play videos on it while at the gym.

You can see the FM Radio in action in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pslg402CHss
Look around the 2:50 mark. Basically, you need headphones plugged in to act as the antenna, and it works really well with good sound quality.

Does the FM Radio support RDS?
What about call volume? On both ends? Some HTC phones I have used are great in quiet room but like in my car with the windows down I can barely hear the other person.

Archos Tablets vs Galaxy Tab

I'm sure the Galaxy Tab will be slightly more powerful... But I can't believe by much.
The Archos Tablets are coming out late September-mid October.
There will be many different sizes... 10.1", 7", 4.3"... etc.
I see people saying the Galaxy tab will cost more than 600$. That's absurd.
All of Archos's tablets are <$300
I own a Vibrant, and believe me, I love it. But I personally will be getting an Archos 10.1 . $299 isn't asking for much.
What do you think.

Of course I am expecting some sort of hack to run the Market on the Archos... that's honestly the only down side but not necesarily a deal breaker.
I would be really hesistant to get an Archos tablet - they've been putting these out for a little while now, but their track record has not been great. Maybe this will change with their new designs - I hadn't heard or read up on the Archos 70 - but they just released the Archos Home 7 a few months ago, and it was not particularly well received.
EDIT: The Archos spec sheet says they are using an ARM A8 based processor, so it could be on par with the A8-based Hummingbird in terms of CPU power - no mention of what GPU is being used though. The GPU on the Hummingbird is an absolute (mobile) beast.
I honestly was about to buy a Z-180 til i heard of the Archos.
And yes... the GPU on the Galaxy S's are supreme...
10.1" Galaxy Tab = king. 7" is too small for me for a tablet. Tablet = halfway between smart phone and netbook. 7" tablet = halfway between smartphone and tablet. Lol
Spec wise, id say the Gtab has a great edge just because of its on board gpu. What you need to think about is how much of a difference that makes to you.
If you just want normal stuff, then no big deal. If you want to play 3d games or play true high def content then the Tab looks way better. If not then well.... The opposite.
Personally I think the archos is just for watching stuff, and the Tab is more of a daily driver.
I wouldn't think about pricing just yet, because until we get numbers from samsung, everything is bull****. Just cast it from your mind.
For me, the Tab is the right size. The appeal is that it'll fit in a coat pocket, or you can just toss out into a bag. 10 inches is huge (anyone who just smirked: shame on you!) and although the nice big screen is ok at home, to me its just impractical in public, particularly since you have to grasp it, not just let it rest in your hand.
Finally, does the archos have a phone in it? That would make.a difference to me to be honest.

Yeah it's all down to personal preference about 7" or 10"... A tablet would be more of an 'at-home' thing for me... My phone is for the go aha.
I'm sure the Archos would be able to handle some 3d games though. We'll see...
They both hop on the 1GHz. I don't know much about Archos GPU though.

Oh yeah, the archos should handle the games and stuff as well as an equivalently specced phone, its certainly no slouch. Just the tab is 'better'.

I'm in the same dilemma right now too...not sure whether to go with the archos 7 inch or 10 inch....or whether to buy the galaxy tab....and a major deciding factor will be the pricing of the tab once its announced...
Yes if the Tab is any more than 400 I probably will go with the Archos... Can't beat $299
The only thing about the GPU in the Hummingbird is that there is nothing to do (yet) with all that power. It's in a league of it's own when it comes to graphics horsepower, and until we see more Android devices take up the PowerVR SGX540 GPU, I doubt we'll see anything take advantage of that power.
Hell, unless/until we start playing games at 720p on TV/Monitors via HDMI, it's not entirely clear we need that kind of graphics processing either. Take a look at the "Epic Citadel" tech demo of the Unreal 3 engine running on the iPhone 4 (which uses the less powerful PowerVR 535 I think) to see what can be accomplished with a GPU with 1/3 the power of the Hummingbird.
Comparing things like that cross platform is fairly useless.
There ate several things that can run on my iphone's old hardware and i know if it were in Android with the same hardware it would run like a dog. Look at Symbian. Very.few Symbian phones use "modern" hardware, but Symbian has no problem with lag.

If you put it like that, then I'd say that the added GPU power adds a degree of future proofing. I suspect that what with the slew of droid based tablets arriving, people will start developing things that take advantage of the screen size. Particularly since tablets have a lot more battery so you can game for a lot longer, and thus might be interested in prettier visual.
Food for thought anyway.
The equivalent 7" archos is a great looking device tho. Although, can someone fill me in on a few things (i know nothing of the devices). Firstly, the spec just says the GPU is '3d OpenGL' but doesn't say the actual chip set. Would like to know what it is. Secondly, it says up to 250gigs, and I assumed that was a choice of internal flash-drives, but the spec sheet has 8gig flash and 250gig HD. Does that mean you connect a HD with USB or a changeable 2.5" drive or something ?
Certainly would help me understand
As long as it has decent quality and runs latest stock android.

There's an 8GB Flash Memory 7" tablet, expandable with Micro SD, and then there's a 7" tablet with an actual internal 250GB Hard Drive.
The 10" has a 8GB internal (micro SD expandable) for 299$ and 16GB internal (micro SD expandable) for 349$
Ah ok I get ya.
I assumed that it was one device with aftermarket add ons *facepalm* the 250gig version sounds pretty GOOD in theory at least
WARNING - LONG POST AHEAD
Anyways, I think what will make the real difference to the choice will be how much you want mobile data. There seems to be two schools of thought on how to use a tablet device here:
a) Those who would be wanting a tablet to augment their current device.
b) Those who see a small form factor tablet as a total alternative.
For those in camp A, the archos has to be a better device. Not only because of cost, but the extra capacity is definitely a head turner.
For those in camp B, the Tabs 3g radio and actual phone capabilities wins the game hands down.
Personally I am much more of a B. I would certainly be happy with an archos. However, since Im not the kind of person who would use it at home, it'd only do service as a media device on long trips. And it'd make me happy in that capacity.
However, since the Tab offers that same performance (less capacity, but I can't see why I would ever need to load up 250gigs of anything) and extras, I just see myself using it more. In my head I can see me using it to hold my notes or whatever I'm working from, and then I can just kick over to a web browser to find what I need or take calls or whatever, all in one device. Of course, I can still use my phone as a phone and my Tab the same as the archos, but I have the choice.
I think that the times I am sitting on a station waiting for a train or whatever, I would kick myself for not having the data use, and anytime where I have to scrabble through my pockets for my phone.
Am still waiting on pricing of course. If the Tab is ridiculously priced (I maintain that this isn't likely to happen) then I may well say screw it and get an archos or indeed another tablet, because much as I love the tab, I'm only willing to pay so much for what I see as the bonuses of using one. If the Tab is competitively priced against the archos, I can't see why anyone would buy the archos (unless they are comitted to carrying a silly amount of media), because even if you never use the added 3g functionality, you know its there. I figure a lot of people will be waiting on the pricing, because if the Tab is say 50-100 bucks more than the archos, its a no brainer. 100-150 more, and its a personal preference. Any more than that and its to much.
The TLDR version:
With my lifestyle, the phoneness of the Tab makes it a real winner. To others, perhaps not, but then again we all have to make our own choices as to what device/s fits for us
MOD EDIT IN BOLD.

This is exactly the same boat im in. Id have to get one off contract since i just bought a captivate and plan on keeping it.
My thing is i just refuse to pay for two data plans, especially when i have AT&Ts grandfathered unlimited plan. And without 3G i can't justify the purchase of a tablet to myself.
So for me to even consider a tablet, it would HAVE to include a telephone. This is one reason i was so excited about the Streak, nut Dell kept dragging their feet bringing it to the US.
At this point, the Tab hits all my check marks, it just has to be priced somewhere south of 550 USD.

I currently own and use an Archos 5IT 5" android tablet.
Hardware wise, it outperforms the T-mobile Galaxy S that my roommate uses, with a processor that is clocked at 600mhz. I do not remember the chipset information off the top of my head, but it is a TI chip that has some solid power on the graphics side, and OpenGL support is available now with the latest firmware updates.
The biggest issue with Archos 5IT is that while updates have been constant for the device, there is no plans to put Android 2.0+ on the device, it is currently running 1.6 and will continue to do so until a 3rd party is able to port over something newer.
The new Archos tablets will not have any "phone parts" included in them, that is part of the reason for the lower price.
It will also include their standard Archos Media Center addin, which is a rather nice full function media application that runs overtop Android on the 5IT. I use their built in media center application over any Android based ones due to its simple UI and built in access to network shares, and all in all its pretty solid.
Otherwise, I have had nothing but good things to say about the device, in spite of its few quirks, most of which are being addressed with the newest models.
I plan on using my Vibrant's "MobileAP" for 3g Data on Archos if ever needed. Why pay for two plans? Heh. So the phone capabilities don't mean much for me. Even then it'd be an at home kind of system.
Ill admit the Archos is a good tablet, but two things keep me from getting it.
It lacks a multitouch screen, and it doesn't have a 3G connection.
While I'd prefer a capacitive screen, but if the screen is like the one in my Fuze, i can deal with that, and as I've said, i can't justify a tablet if any size if it diesnt have a SIM card slot.

The Galaxy Note Is The Most Versatile Mobile Device Ever.

Some people regard the Note as being too big to be used as a phone and too small to be used as a tablet. Of course, neither is true because the Note is the most versatile mobile device ever made. The days of having to own a small mobile phone where the screen is too small to be practicable and a tablet which is too big to carry around are over. Thank you Samsung.

It,s probably the best thing ever done as yo it,s many functions. It,s a great smartphone light and thin with the biggest screen and amazing performance, it has an amazing battery life considering it's hugeness. It's a great ebook using aldiko, it's a fantastic media player for music, video and photos on it's own screen and on tv with hdmi. The quality of the camera is close yo the iphone 4s if not best. The video recording is simply great and of course it is better that any gps navigator you can buy since it positioning technology is the fastest i've ever seen. No doubt this phone is the gadget of the year
I do understand the critique; too large for a phone... too small for a tablet.
There is some truth to that. Let's admit it.
But... if you want a go anywhere device that does it all... The Note is for you.

Show us a device that is big enough as a tablet and small enough to be a phone
I agree, but there is rumor the Galaxy S III will be buttonless in front and 5" which I think is just right:http://www.slashgear.com/samsung-ga...already-realistic-press-images-leak-23204379/
5.3" is slightly bit much.
One month in and still impressed with this phone. It really is the best mobile device I've ever used.
-Camera quality is excellent.
-Love using the stylus for notes and drawing/doodling.
-Bought a car mount and uses it as my main GPS since the screen is large. Due to GLONASS system, the satellite lockin is awesome, even indoor.
-Never use my Windows tablet anymore, since the Note can handle website and 720p flash contents without sweat.
-Became my sole ebook reader due to the resolution.
-This is the first phone where I felt the onscreen controller for games are actually very usable that I don't (always) need an extra bluetooth gamepad, due to the screen estate.
-Screen quality is amazing, but importantly the hardware can handle the HD MKV videos and have microSD support to store them. I am not ashamed to admit I take delight in the fact the screen quality and viewing angle literally destroy the iPhone 4S screen of peers.
-It's a long phone, my mouth does not even reach down to mic, but delighted people across the line can hear me fine and I'm not a loud mouth. (Though I am on custom rom which might improves the Phone app over stock.)
-With custom rom, it support OpenVPN which is a big deal for me.
I'm so glad I returned the Nexus for the Note. Only downside so far is no official 1700mhz support for T-Mobile , hope something can be done about it.
The size is a personal thing, for me its perfect for both as a phone and a tablet.
J had a Galaxy 10.1 it put a big stress on my arm,to use it I had to lift my arm all the time,so I gave it to my wife a Cello player.
Now with my GNote I sit for hours surfing the net without any stress since I just use my fingers to operate the entire device without lifting an arm, this is even more obvious when I play chess in long sessions,so can't be more happier with the size.
I agree. Its the best phone I have ever used. The huge screen is really an advantage in all aspects.

Tab is too big too carry along and 4,3" phone (or whatever size) is just too small for surf/video. Also carry 2 device is not funny.
The Notes 5,3" is perfect and u get 2in1 hybrid device to carry with u.
True
It replaces mobile, tab and PC to an extent. And then, it replaces pen and paper!
(and, camera, music, navigation too but that's given)

I agree, but there is rumor the Galaxy S III will be buttonless in front and 5" which I think is just right:http://www.slashgear.com/samsung-ga...already-realistic-press-images-leak-23204379/

If that phone were real, I would buy it the instant it was available, and I'd pay $1500 for it without batting an eye. That is my dream device. The only thing I'd want different is for the stylus to be stored onboard. Unfortunately, it's just a concept.

I do understand the critique; too large for a phone... too small for a tablet.
There is some truth to that. Let's admit it.
But... if you want a go anywhere device that does it all... The Note is for you.
I love it!

How large is too large? When I first got the HD2 people said it was too large. This is ideal for what it does. Sammy has got it right.

Show us a device that is big enough as a tablet and small enough to be a phone
