Let your frustration go on the SE Facebook page. Like evil comments to their news.
To answer your question - they probably don't test it or maybe they have their bug tracking system full of issues, but the marketing and/or management just press the release. Testing products is one of the most neglected part of product development cycle. OK, maybe documentation is even worse.

i have my n97 right nowand i thought it was slow, but i just did a hard reset on it and its blazing fast, i might go back to the n97 and sell my week old

X1 - New Firmware

I am so proud of Sony Ericsson.
You know... Half of the company is from Sweden, where I live!!!
I just updated the phone to the new firmware. And I am almost shivering from proudness.
In ONLY FOUR MONTHS Sony Ericsson managed to make the Opera browser the default web browser on the phone. I can't believe how incredibly good they are!!!
I haven't notice anything else though, but oh my god... Isn't this more than enough to accomplish in ONLY FOUR MONTHS?
Anyone complaining on Sony Ericssson have to answer before me. I absolutely adore them. They are unbelievably good.
Anyone... Please don't tell me they managed to do anything else. I don't think I could take it. Making Opera the default browser almost made me faint. If you say something else was fixed too, I think I will die.

Cynic enough???
Here's what has changed:
Here are some things that have been noticed so far with this update.
The device now boots faster.
Faster menus - switching tabs in settings is quicker.
Programs launch quicker and file explorer is quick in loading folders.
The Vodafone ROM update (not sure if others have this) includes a couple of other additional trial games including Bubble Bash, Block Breaker Deluxe, and Tetris Mania.
Bluetooth Problem reported to be fixed. (I didn’t face any bluetooth problems with the old software and am not facing any now.)
Wi-Fi bug fixed.
Panel animation is a bit smoother but still laggy on switching from portrait to landscape and vice versa. Overall a faster panels experience.
Video playback has improved a lot! CP benchmark on a video resulted in 90-92% on the old ROM and is now increased to 98%.
Word prediction in most text-boxes.
Media Panel improvements including; music indexing is a lot faster, image scrolling is almost as smooth as it should be, changing tracks show information about the track at the bottom of the screen, and most importantly it now only shows pictures from the My Pictures and Camera folders on the main and internal storage – say goodbye to all those images from program files and windows showing up.
Camera improvements include faster focus lock and more stable focus. Preview is also smoother and introduces a new setting letting you define the frame rate to use for the video to shoot.
Furthermore, I think they updated the 3D drivers too. TouchFlo 3D is running way smooth - especially the Pictures and Media tabs! (flicking through pictures and music is quick and smooth) + Slide2Play is performing much better with this new updated ROM; quicker and smoother movement in landscape, switches album/song images correctly on song change, and so on.
http://xperiancer.blogspot.com/2009/01/xperia-software-update.html
initially when i just flashed the new firmware it was noticeably faster. boots faster and faster file system. used to take 8 secs to open /windows folder and after flash took just 2 secs!
but now after reinstalling my apps, the file system speed has decreased back to that of the old firmware. still boots faster tho.
i have reported that my x1 is very fast but i dont have new firmware installed yet..
i want to ask you how to install the new ROM? i got the new ROM from the pavel and download it in rapid share.

I see the framrate option. But I can't confirm it really works. As a matter of fact, I even don't know what to expect. I didn't get 30 fps before, and I'm sceptic I will get it now. But of course I may be wrong here.

Again, I can't tell the difference. I doubt Sony Ericsson had in mind that you should use TF3D. So the possbible improvements in using TF3D is irrelevelant to me. Maybe it's faster for other applications using 3D, but I haven't tried them yet and thus can't tell.
One of the most annoying bugs is not fixed.
That does not apply to you using english keyboard. But for me, using the swedish letters Å, Ä and Ö it does.
Those keys seems to be implemented after all "normal" keys. So where all other keys seems to get into a keyboard buffer when you type them, the special swedish characters are written immediately to the screen. That means when I write a swedish sentence that should look like "Jag ska försöka träffa dig innan mötet." instead looks lite "Jag skaö fröska ätrffa dig innaön mtet."
That is, in my opinion a HUGE bug, which they should have focused on before doing anything else.
Regards,
Michael

Yes of course I did. October 24 I mailed them about this problem.
Should have been enough time for anyone with some competence to fix it.
EDIT:
As a matter of fact I've mailed SE 24-25 mails on different matters on the phone. Most of them might be specific to the operating system which SE has no control over, but for me as a customer that really doesn't matter. But the response I've got was just that, freely translated from swedish: "SE has no direct control over the issues since that is a Windows Mobile specific matter".
They even told me that about the Radio Panel.
Do you understand why I am a bit upset?
I like the phone even though it still has some issues, but I really can't stand Sony Ericssons ignorance.

Oh, and by the way...
Why should people even have to "notice" differences between firmwares?
We should be informed about the changes without having to guess what's fixed, and what's not.
It is our equipment, and it's our time and efforts we put in it to try to see if we get any improvments. We shouldn't have to do that. SE should give us information on what is done so we could decide for ourselves if the update might be needed or not.

yes it's annoying.
no you don't get better help when sending 25 emails in a few months.

Why do you think that the iphone doesn't have a copy/paste function after the product has been on the market for 2+ years?
they don't give a **** .. you paid already
I think some ppl here have fixed some issues regarding swedish key press's.
not sure but try to search.. have seen some stuff come by.. but I don't need it so forgot where.
good luck

As for the biggest BUG you are facing, i can't say much about that - since it doesn't realy apply to me, as you too pointed out. But maybe you should try flashing on a non-Swedish ROM and see how that goes? For definitely all the points i highlighted are pretty much what i saw - with both the Vodafone as well as the Generic UK ROMs.
FYI - when i say that they probably updated the 3D drivers... i'm not just talking about TF3D (i use that as an example 'coz it was usually buggy before this firmware), but games are actually running as they should have done before. No glitches or problems with Atomic Cannon, Archibald's Adventures, and more games that faced usual lags or slowed down a bit in menus or something like that. Furthermore, Slide2Play is also working way better with this updated firmware.
the framerate option on the camera is great and actually works. The media panel has been improved a lot! The bluetooh and wifi issues have definitely been fixed... and the device startup time has been improved too, way quicker now.
55 Seconds?!?!?! - i barely got that with my old firmware! Maybe it is the Swedish ROM? Definitely try out the Generic UK or Vodafone UK ROM for a few days...
Best Regards.

I use the Swedish updated ROM, and I, as other swedes with updated phones I've talked to, don't feel any improvements with the new ROM. In fact, the phone seems to be slower when using SPB Mobile Shell: When clicking programs, it takes some time before the icons appear. Same time when sliding into the second page of programs. I didn't have this lag before updating...

Engadget review now up

Not all roses...
http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/25/htc-hd2-review/
Quite typical of the Apple funded Engadget
Its a useless review... read pocketnow.com 's review inside.
What makes their review useless?....I was happy to read it, and i have read all the other reviews out there. I dont think they said anything that the other reviews hadnt touched on. Even posts here on this site have pointed out similar issues and had similar complaints.

It hurts some when reviews don't paint the phone you've just bought as the BEST THING EVER.
Don't worry, they'll get over it.
Accually I think it is one of the better reviews. I like how it feels like they are the only ones who have really used the phone for quite some time, since they can point out the bugs and freezes, which imo is the biggest flaw of the phone.
I agree. the occasional freeze is driving me nuts. I can’t get the phone to last more than 24 hours without a soft reset and I hardly have any apps installed.
I was going to buy nokia n900, but after I read that in the morning, I changed my mind. Now I am holding HTC HD2 in my hand. It is so big (in a good way).

thats unfortunate. I have the phone for more than a week and there wasn't a single freeze, although I installed quite a lot of 3rd party apps ...
I have not seen one single freeze. This is one happy HD2 owner .
For those who dont have any freeze issues, which ROM versions are you running? WWE or?
Have you installed .NET3.5 on your device?
I am thinking it might be related to .NET3.5.
WWE and .NET 3.5 since day 1. not a single freeze ...
engadget simply sucks! they can buy iphone and...rest in peace!
Haven't really experienced any freezes but .Net 3.5 seems to make it a little less responsive than .Net 2.0. No biggie though.

No freezes here, no .NET 3.5 installed either, the occasional stutter when unlocking the phone and it decides to update weather/email etc at the same time.

no problem for me...but due the hd2 never freezes in my hand...i doubt the it really freezes in their. it's [email protected] fast and stable! maybe it just lagged in heavy rom tests, with 30 apps opened and they use this behaviour as a trojan horse. readin the reviews it seems it is a not-responsive device.
i saw serveral times different iphones crashes, but i don't use to say it's a slow and bugged device, because it's not!
Also its bull**** about the flash part, I can run embeded youtube videos perfectly on the HD2 due to the 1ghz and large memory!!
it's very strange and absurde! somebody (htc) works to improve every OS it can as best as it's possible, and somebody (engadget) pushes to discontinue this job. wot engadget really wants?
alexleon -> Your fanboyism is making me sick... Engadget made a really good and honest review and I would be lying if I didn't agree on the fact that HD2 is VERY buggy with a lot of slowdowns and malfunctions. I have to softreset mine AT LEAST once a day to keep it running like it is suppost to run and I often get stuck at the lock screen and get hiccups in the UI... I havn't installed anything but skype and .NET 3.5 and I always clean my taskmanager.
DMAND - maybe so, but it can't run videoes directly from youtube.com =/

Smooth Scrolling?

Is there anything that will take care of that sudden jerk when you start to scroll in the browser? It's very annoying. It's been improved over the stock ROM using other ROMs, but it's still there. When you start to scroll...it snaps/jerks before getting smooth. Yeah, yeah...I know...we have a SNAPdragon processor... LOL...but hope you know what I mean. Seems to only be happening in the browser, stock/dolphin.
Mine seems very smooth in Dolphin, Im not sure what youre refering to exactly. Is there a video or anything that shows what you mean?
mines smooth as can be as well.
Mines smooth with no snap at first...
Agree with the above people. Can you post a video? Mine's just fine.
Only video camera I currently have is on the Nexus. Sorry. But, you really only notice it, I guess, when you do a slight scroll. It's very minute, but...ah...must just be an OCD of mine.
I think I know what you mean. You scroll and its late to react so it jumps ahead. This is something I only noticed after using another device ( that I wont address by name because it hurts peoples feelings around here )which scrolls a lot smoother. And its not just the browser its all scrolling. But again, if I hadn't used the "other" phone first I wouldn't even notice it.
If you are comparing to the iPhone, this is just because the Android browser isn't optimized as much. It has the GPU power to do it, but you can have a computer chiptset in there and it won't run smooth unless the software is further optimized which I'm sure Android is working on...or hope...

Yep, the iPhone has much smoother scrolling(there, i said it.), i did a direct comparison in google maps between the n1 and my dad's old ipod touch. The touch movement is far smoother and feels more real, as real as a scrolling image on a screen can be i suppose.

My Vibrant Rant

So, I got the vibrant, and overall I like it because its much more responsive than both my G1 and MyTouch, but kind of have the following thoughts.
1. I feel having an LED has to be a big mistake/oversight. I cant imagine the LED would have much added cost for samsung nor be very big/require much space. Yet would have a GREAT improvment on the user experience. I hate not being able to glance at my phone and see what happened. Plus, it's alot less battery than having to turn on the screen. There are some hacks - forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=725458 - being done to compensate, but none are 'great' solutions, although clever.
2. Battery life - for an AMOLED screen, I'm surprised my battery drains as fast as it does. It lasts me 3/4 of a day more or less. I do have a few things installed, and do use the feed widgt for facebook etc, and have gmail and work email synced. I think it still doesnt last as long as it should. I'm considering removing the facebook widget and adjusting sync times to get more battery back, but still feels lacking.
P.S. : Isnt there some sort of App that can help me identify which apps are using the most battery/CPU time?
3. Calendar Notification - This is something I cant understand. I have worke mail synced to my phone, as well as my calendar for it synced. I get long vibrations and sound (if my phone isnt on vibrate), but there is no way I can find to adjust the notification to be less annoying. I know other users have noticed the same issue
4. Bloatware - I dont mind the fact that they install alot of apps on the phone that other users may find interesting, but I really feel they should make it easier to remove them. I shouldnt have to go through extra effort to get the bloatware removed.
5. Camera App - its a nice app, but I dont like how after taking a picture it does not switch back to camera... you have to hit the back button.
6. Power on button - You already have to do a slide to unlock... why on earth is the power button so small and obtrusive? I feel this is a bit quircky.
7. Proximity sensor - I dont know about you guys, but it took me a while to figure out why, when I am on the phone, the screen kept lighting up on and off. I *think* I figured out that the proximity sensor right next to the ear piece detects if your head is near the phone, and if it is away from it, it will light up the phone. I find this rather annoying, maybe I hold the phone awkwardly, but several times it has lit up while talking and I've accidentally muted etc.
So ya, </rant>
Overall, the phone is nice and a well needed improvement over my previous phone, but I feel there were just a few simple things that samsung could of done to make it a solid release.
What do others think?

I think this should be posted on the Samsung forums rather than XDA. I am pretty sure nobody here can do anything about it and I am also pretty sure that nobody cares if you don't like your phone.

I'm glad you felt the need to be a complete jerk in your response. Very smooth and professional.
FYI the rant was partially so others (who may want to get the phone) know what issues and downsides I've personally experienced, and partially to see if anyone has any suggestions on ways to imrpove/fix some of my issues.
If you have nothing smart to say next time, it may be best to just keep it to yourself.

this posting was worth it allow for this fine joke of yours...nice one do you do stand up?
@temperbad - the reason people on this forum will harass you about your post is mainly this:
xda-developers is just that - a DEVELOPERS forum. Most people who want to complain about devices go to forums for those devices that address general discussion. This forum caters to people who "mod" their devices. While many new-comers do come to this forum and are welcomed - it is appreciated if they stay on topics related to app modification/generation, themeing, developing and modifying ROMS and such.
So, while many do get on here and post about other crap - it is only tolerated by those that seriously want to use these forums for the intended purposes.
Your rant about this device will most likely only be heard by those who own the device out of necessity or desire - AND, by people who are already committed to owning the device. THEY DON'T CARE about hearing someone complain about a device they are already committed to!
So, in the future please make these kinds of posts on forums on which people discuss more general topics or cater to the device "generally" instead of on a forum that is dedicated to DEVELOPMENT and MODIFICATION.
I am not attempting to be harsh - however, hopefully, others will read this and will not post topics that are not related to this forum.
MOST OF THE REALLY GREAT DEVELOPERS ARE RAN OFF from Development forums because of all the off topic comments. We hope that one day this will stop.... But, I am beginning to feel like all hope is lost...
@shaneaus - yes, I understand that, but I did post in the GENERAL section. Also, I understand this is a developer forum. I'm a developer myself and have trolled the forums for a few years, and there are some development solutions to the problems I mentioned (like notifications) etc...
Thanks for the thoughtful response though.
Every phone has it's shortcomings
Return it or whine about it
At this point I would suggest you move on
wait for the froyo update and some of your issues may be resolved.

Are you people serious? You don't know how a Proximity sensor works on these phones? "Bloatware" as if T-Mobile hid it from you and has SO much of it on this phone? "Photo review, a feature that YOU CAN TURN OFF IN THE CAMERA SETTINGS?!" "PS isn't there an app that will tell me what is using the most battery" - Wow. Just wow. And you call this a "rant"? Maybe you should consult the owners manual before creating threads like this.
You knew or should've known that there is no LED Notification light on this phone. If you're trying to tell me that the battery life is worse on this phone than the G1 you're doing something seriously wrong.

[Q] HTC Desire-Z boot speed

I dunno if you've seen it but it starts in about the time it takes my legend to turn the screen on. Anyhoo
Do we reckon it would be possible to put this kind of thing on other phones (Namely our Legend)? It's called HTC Fast boot; so would it be possible to, when they're released, port the stuff in the ROM that does this? Or not? Or anything even close?
It's very early to tell, but if they'll release to other phones (like Desire) there's a very very good chance it's possible.
For what it's worth I don't think the boot time for our Legends is bad at all. I'm satisfied with it.
Yeah, but faster is (nearly) always better
Watch second video, you can see how fast is boot speed! F*** yeah . This is what we need for legend!

My only worry is that there's some stuff going on there that's not ROM related. Maybe bootloader tinkering; who knows?
From CoolSmartPhone.com (note the last couple of sentences):
Oh, and that boot time is a whole lot quicker too according to HTC. We did give this a test after being told that the device could turn back on in "less than 10 seconds". We tested it and it actually did it in less than 5 seconds, but it seems that there's some clever "suspend" technology going on when you tell the devices to power off from the GUI as, when we popped the battery out to try a complete "cold boot" it took the normal amount of time. We're guessing that this will still be brilliant though, especially if you've had the phone powered off whilst asleep or during a flight.

Yea.. I had a feeling that it was likely to be a suspend. This does, however, make it more likely to be ported to other phones...
No. Not. At. All.

For what it's worth, I played on the Desire HD (and Z) last night as I went along to the HTC event. The boot speed IS very impressive, but it's a nice to have, not a "need to have".
Some people were overly impressed with the boot speed, some not impressed at all. Afterall, there is more to a phone that how fast it manages to boot up .
