The reason that I chose the X10 is because of the slightly larger screen with slightly higher resolution at 16:9 instead of 15:9 and the pure awesomeness of it's camera! Oh yeah, I think the X10 looks WAY better than the Desire. But that's up to you.

X10 or Desire
Me and dbase-uk are currently comparing these 2 phones as we upgraded the same time, I have the x10 and he has the desire, both on orange.
The main differences we have found at the mo are that the Desire is more polished because of the the android 2.1, but in having said that the X10 does run the same kernel 2.6.29-rel (x10 android 1.6). This enables the X10 to do more of the android 2.1 apps but not all such as live wallpapers.
Simple tasks so far that have got my back with X10 are things like sending a business card via text only seems to be the option to send it via bluetooth very frustrating !! Also things like a you tube link straight from the you tube player in sms, no option have to login in to you tube!! These are all present on the desire straight out the box.
Benchmarks ( linpack )
X10 4 mflops
desire 7 mflops
Stock
The camera is better on the X10 face detection and 8.1 camera and other settings. Dark shooting on the x10 is not as good but there is a new sony build coming out r1fa016 x10 currently on 014, this is meant to fix camera dark settings, overall performance and sound quality.
Timescape is cool and does work well (under review at the mo)
Also the screen on the Deisre ome led and x10 is not but really cannot tell the difference, apart from the black is a little darker on the deisre, I do like the x10 screen it is bigger and looks stunning.
Big shock was the size comparison they are pretty much identical, but to look at them the htc looks a lot smaller because of the rounded corners and smaller screen weight wise cannot tell the difference.
Either way X10 and Desire both run Android wich is the way forward, after have windows mobile and symbian, no comparison!!
Thanks more soon

I went for the X10 in the end. Mostly because I'd been following it for such a long time and its supposed hardware spec (before launch) was on par with the desire.
Once the truth came out about the clearpad 1000 screen and Sony's track record for updates, I was really going to go for the desire as I considered it to be more "future proof".
I wasn't all that excited about the physical design on the desire but I had used sense before on my hero and new that the UI was sound.
However I think that because I'd had a hero before, it was hard to excited about desire as it is virtually the same phone but on steroids.
I've compared them both and the desire is slick and the updated version of sense is brilliant, android 2.1 is brilliant and it may get 720p recording through a software update.
Personally though its still not as exciting as the x10. It got mine in white and it looks good. The screen great, the colours are not as vibrant as the desire as previously said, but once you turn up the brightness the screen improves dramatically (and the battery life decreases drastically!)
The Sony keyboard is absolutely awful as you must've heard by now, but that can be rectified by installing either better keyboard or the HTC one from the desire.
Browsing is a joy on the x10, as Google maps. Although I do sometimes.miss pinch to zoom. The alternatives do work quite well and makes using this phone one handed a breeze.
Although Sony's custom apps can run a little slowly at times as result of the data they collect. The rest of the phone seems quite snappy. I think that if android 2+ comes this phone will impress in a big way.
The other reason I didn't get the desire is because I heard about the evo which I do want. So the x10 is a welcomed change for now. Hopefully since I bought an exclusive white one it will fetch a pretty penny when I come to sell it on in the future.

hey all.. ive been checking out the desire forum as welll....it seems it has just got a slicker ui.... the 2.1 os isnt making a big difference (which i thought it would)
looking at the spec, i read some where it has 1g internal storage.. can someone confirm? apologies if it has been asked already.
on the desire internet explorer you can select and copy paste.... is this possible on the x10

I believe that the Desire only has 512MB internal storage while the X10 has 1GB.

How satisfied are u with X10?

i am planning to upgrade my X1 to X10...so i am on android platform
but also considering other android phones such as Milestone.
wanted to know how satisfied are u with X10 on a scale 1-10?
did u regret it at all? (unbiased answers pls)
Hows the performance compared to other phones in similar hardware class?
I have had a long list of handsets every single version of blackberry, iphone and this is my first android for about a week now and I'm really happy with it. It's a project phone to me, always finding new things with it and the apps and personalizing it are endless.
Quality of apps are not as great as the iphone but it's still a VERY new platform and getting better by the day.
Hardware wise I'm very impressed, very speedy, impressive camera quality and I'm pretty picky, 9/10 for form factor, could be rounded or something. Robust little device and I hope it's not outdated for at least 8 months.
looks 9/10
quality 8.9/10 - screen scratches easily, voice quality is great
hardware 9.9/10
overall I'd say 9.2/10 compare to an iphone of 8.9/10
i do like the phone a lot. with better software or onceroot is availible it will be worlds better.
camera is great wish it had a flash though. screen is great and big for typing.
not overly happy with battery life but after reading a few suggestions it is better.
once a firmware upgrade is out and an upgrade to a more recent version of android my mind might change more in favor of this device. right now it gets an 8 out of 10
Sent from my X10a using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
I have just upgraded from X1 to X10 and I'm very impressed with the device.
Major drawback is low volume during calls.
Pluses definitely outweigh the minuses and the snapdragon 1 GHZ is lightning quick.
My opinion is go for it, you won't be disappointed.
Don't forget we are on first gen firmware which can only improve.

Ha~~ You are ask in right place,
I'm also upgrade from X1 to X10
Android is better than WM = =", Even my X1 use custom rom and faster than stock rom a 300%, but WM still lag, still ....ooxx
And My colleague have MileStone, Nexus One, Hero
But all colleagues want to get X10 when they see my X10 and play it a lot
Milestone is best for Rooted use, but slower than X10
Nexus One also have the latest firmware, rooted etc..benefit but is this really important???
Hero... actually not the same grade
I want to said X1 to X10 you can feel much better improve, actually when you jump from WM to Android you can feel it
Milestone VS X10
Outlook: I guess X10 is better but MS not bad, but MS heavy
Phone Feature: MS win, better speaker, clear and loud, also the IM volume is clear and MS have CrystalVoice, X10 speaker low, and the most important is the IM volume is very low.... MW600 is your friend = ="
Stylus: X10 win, the custom of the X10 and UI, Userfriendly is X10, But MS also can improve by Apps
Performance: slower than X10
Nexus One VS X10
Outlook: I think 99% people said X10 win
Phone Feature: I think is draw, Nexus one have Noise Cancel, but in the real world this feature seem not really good as Milestone, and the volume same as X10 still low
Performance: Faster than X10
Conclusion:
My choice is X10, even I played the Milestone and Nexus one and hero also
X10 is a very union product, you can feel this is the Sony phone, not like the MS or Nexus one, just only a Android
When you use X10, you will see many place has been modified and make the stylus in one "Sony Stylus"
Even the outlook and the UI you can see this is the phone which not like just only buy some band, and then the outlook is like a soap and UI alway HTC = ="
The Better Video Play back and the best camera on Android "like DC"
If you want to play the PHONE, you use MS or Nexus One
If you want to show up, use the PHONE, then X10
HA... when I goto street and show off the X10, many people watch my Phone, wow... what is this phone?? the outlook is very good, big screen and slim
Stylus: Still same as MS, it can root and improve the UI from apps
I too upgraded from X1 to X10, the X10 does feel 10 times better than the X1 (hence the name..?)
The reason why I picked X10 is almost the same reason why I picked X1 last year; the looks and the hardware. X1 was quite a powerhouse when snapdragon wasn't available in the market. However as you and I'd agree, X1 isn't a dream machine as we thought. The lagginess and lack of supports from SE quickly turns me off.
Picking the xperia series phone again wasn't an easy decision for me, it feels like I'm going back into the SE trap again. But I reconsider because of the improvement offered in the X10, 1Ghz, big screen, android, and still has the sexy appeal. I have been watching the phone closely for a year ever since there were leaked information on the internet, and reviews after the phone was finally out and eventually, hold my breath and clicked 'Buy Now' on eBay.
X10 is just like the X1, it isnt as impressive as the spec look like. But the difference is its more impressive than the X1, just not as exciting as you might expect. X10 will still give you the 'lag' experience especially at the animations department. To a some people the laginess is unacceptable due to the fact there is a 1Ghz cpu in the house. To me who came from X1 is acceptable because I've seen the worse.
Also believe me or not android isnt as mature as the windows mobile. There are quite a few basic functions the android lacks like task manager etc, and the dialler feels weird (press power button to reject call...?).
So if you still havent made up your mind yet, this is the factors I think you should consider
-are u a physical keyboard person? (I am, but I do not mind virtual keyboard either, I'm currently typing really slow on the phone, and without physical keyboard, u cant do 'blind typing'. I used to type my messages walking on the street without looking at the screen)
-are u a 100% sucker of graphics and animation? sure timescape looks impressive, but not an essential. And u need good looking profile pics of ur friends frm ur Facebook or twitter account to make timescape looks good. Most of my Facebook splines are showing only my friend's nose and lips due to their profile pics, makes my whole timescape look like a joke.
-can you live with android 1.6 until Q4 2010? X10 is my 1st android phone and I have not had the privilege to played with 2.1. So I'm not spoiled from the comfort of 2.1.
-can you live with single touch screen?
-do you expect the phone to perform as fluid as iPhone? IMO I have not seen other phone which can perform better than the iPhone at the animation department (HTC's Sense is pretty close). I personally do not want an iphones cause I've got an ipod touch, apple's control freak, and too many people has it.
And finally my rating! 9/10
Sorry for the long post but I hope I helped, because I have gone through the same decision making ;D
how the hell do i delete a post?
Deleted. Double post

Obviously depends on what features you really care about regarding your mobile phone, but OVERALL I think HTC's Desire is hands down the best phone on the market right now. I firmly believe the X10 could be, but in all honesty it could be until November until its potential is fully realized--pending promised firmware and OS updates.
So if you want the best phone,
Right now--HTC Desire
This year--Evo 4G, Samsung Galaxy S, maybe X10!
Satisfaction -- 7/10 X10 Overall -- 8.5/10
Some regret yes -- high cost, questionable updates from SE, poor battery life
X10's performance is not up to N1 or Desire, but other features and potential is why I bought it.

Ah thats why some callers are gone when I try to get my phone from back jean pocket
Veeeeeery happy thank you !! From what I was using (P1) 10/10 (what doesnt have a couple of niggles anyway ??)
Very, 9.5/10
Pretty damn satisfied, 8.5/10 (but I'm very difficult to satisfy)
Pros: too many to list, it really is an awesome device.
Cons: while I understand SE's philosophy behind the slow software releases, it doesn't make up for how SLOW they are at releasing them: 6+ months for an update to be customised & tested by them is unacceptable for a top-end device. In all honesty I've found no major issues to WANT the software update, but there are enough to make it a desirable thing to happen.
But, overall, it's a damn nice looking device and it works very well.
I'll give it 8.5 from 10.
Battery life is fine after a week or so when you stop pushing the phone limits
I mean, is a smartphone with 1Gig CPU and 4" display... you can't expect the battery to last 4 days like a dumb phone
If you use the smartphone, 12h battery is super.
If you turn everything off and use the phone (but i don't see the point) you can get 2days or more.
Design + UI, 10/10...
I don't care much about mediascape but timescape does the job.
Call volume ... i have no idea i use MW600 100% and is loud enough.
1.6 vs. 2.1 ?
2.1 will be nice but 1.6 will do it.
I was waiting for Galaxy S until after reading hundred of posts about Samsung "upgrades" i gave up.
Yes, will have a better display and divx/xvid support but Samsung has a bad habit to put new phones on market instead of supporting their old models so, pretty much you are stuck with what you buy.
I came from X1
Don´t buy a X10. Take a HTC instead. I give 2/10. I hate my X10. Poor hardware. Bad integrated hardware buttons ( bad to handle ), sad USB ( on the left????) No MT, bad Battery, POOR earspeaker quality and not loud enough, NO Sence.
What i hate most:
The Dialer
The Phonebook
The Call Log
The "Back" Hardware Button. Bad to reach. Need always to keep atention the X10 is not falling out of my hand. Why 3 or 4 hardware buttons? what did Google think when they did Android???? I hate also the iphone BUT there you have everywhere a "back" tab.
Instead of building TS and MS, SE should make a better usable interface like HTC ( Dialer..../ Sense) and EVERYWHERE a "Back/Cancel" tab.
AND i cant stand with the "select text" method in Android. That is bull****. Why not make it like it is on every computer ( and WM): wipe with your finger and the long press on the selected text and choose between cut, copy.....
i am thinking to change my X10 to a HD2 BUT THIS has no trackball
the perfect phone has a Trackball/ DPAD and maybe(!) two (good to handle) hardware buttons: Dial and Dial end/cancel
but there is no such phone on the market....
of course thats just my opinion ( but there are only 2: my opinion and the wrong opinion )
the last 4 weeks i made a list what i love on my X10 and what i hate: 2 things i love, 43 i hate. The list is a 17(!!!!) pages long word document and every page is FULL. The list took me about 50-70 hours, NO CHOKE!!!! I would post it here but its in german and to translate it would cost me again lots of hours.....
Best phone I have ever owned and I have owned the following phones in the last year:
iphone 3G
HTC Magic
HTC Hero
Nokia N900
People talk about lag but I have seen none. Best battery life of the bunch, too.

iphone 3G - i understand THAT!!!
HTC Magic - ? i think its much better than the X10
HTC Hero - ? i think its much better than the X10
Nokia N900 - i dont know this phone
I'm happy with it I went form the X1 to the X10 and have been a Windows Mobile fan for years. It's taking some getting used to but i'm getting there.
Battery life was a pain until I disabled Timescape and several other services.
well i would say i was very frustrating, waited for so long since the phone advertise, here in DUBAI we don't have marketplace inside the package but you can see the box there is marketplace icon weird!!!!!!!!!!!... the only thing that you can enjoy your android is to get some useful apps in the marketplace.... yet there is a word "debranding"and some of frnds manage to debrand there androids in UK version and they have this apps could MARKETPLACE..... but i want my phone to be a virgin as new with out debranding it!!!
rate 5 out of 10....
i only miss multitouch as i upgraded from hd2 which has very good multitouch ,i now returned to hd2 as my primary phone ,as i also hate android 1.6 i give it (4 out of 10) and hd2 (8 out of 10 )
My previous phone was iphone 3G, but with android phone I´m very satisfied!
Look 9/10
Functions 8/10 (missing camera flash, and divx support and a little MT)
Overall 8,5/10
Cons: low call volume (but I have MW600 and with it its great), for that price X10 can have stereo speakers, speed of releasing future updates (hope that SE will release updates faster... 2.1 in Q4 2010 wtf ??!)

Two things.

Hi everyone!
I have been stuck for quite some time deliberating between the HTC Desire and the Xperia X10. There are only 3 things stopping me from going out right now and buying the X10.
1) Shops are closed at the moment
2) Apparently there is a fair amount of slowdown and jerkiness on the phone.
3) The Desire has 1.5x more RAM.
Multitouch is no big deal and I would much rather have a great camera and bigger screen that is more usable in direct daylight.
Now then, If there is any slowdown/lag on the phone when and where does it occur? It seems bit odd to have slowdown on such a powerful device.
Secondly, is it the lack of RAM causing the slowdown? Or the lack of hardware acceleration? I don't multitask too much so if that's the only usage for RAM, then that's half my dilemma fixed.
Thanks!
The Desire doesn't have 1.5 times more ram. The Desire has 512Mb and the Xperia X10 has 384Mb.
Nope, Desire has 576MB http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_desire-3077.php
You are correct about the X10's RAM.
576/384 = 1.5
When in doubt ... forget about it.
Instead of buying X10 and not being happy with it after just go with Desire.
And yes, X10 has some lag problems in timescape (when you load the app and the cache is generated for a few seconds is laggy).
And to make things worse, only 256Mb of RAM from 384 are used (android 1.6 limitation) so basically Desire has 2x+ RAM
On the other side Desire is an ugly smartphone and sense is boring
Personally, I'm not having any issues with lag. maybe a fraction of a second while loading timescape but nothing to be concerned about.
other than that it's VERY fast. never notice any issues with running out of ram, and I no longer use any task killing apps.
GPS is one thing that has really impressed me. Insanely fast to get a fix, and even gets a lock when I'm inside my house
Battery life for me is not so good. Only just lasting a day. Hopefully the next update will help.......
i think lagging caused by too many background apps running. Using startup auditor and advance task killer might improve the battery life and the phone running at the current moment. battery still still running around 1 and 1 / 2 days for me if not playing the phones for the whole day.
But right now, every X10 owner is dying for SE next small update and 2.1 OS update.
Desire is also a good phone, but i have had some bad experience on my HTC touch pro 2 so i would leave this brand a side by now.
I dont understand the lagging comments, ive had the x10 for more than 2 months now and the phone is nothing but fast, very fast. Yes, timescape takes a little longer to start working properly but than again, i dont use it. Ever.
The battery is quite ok for me, 2 + days, depending on usage, sometimes 3.5 days is you turn it off during sleepy time.
Imo when the 2.1 update comes, it will be a better phone than desire so if you can wait for that, get the x10.
Ram? Not an issue, multitasking is rather smooth, no problems here.
Hi - There's a tiny delay when you go into timescape.. but it's really not worth worrying about.. the phone is generally very fast and the way android manages the memory it's not a problem... certainly not that I've observed. Battery issues have been reported on both handsets.. so I think that it's partly a super smartphone issue... something this powerful is bound to use a lot of juice.. but many are getting a good days use out of it... 2,3, or even 4 if it's not used much.
If you've ever used a Desire you would understand why people say the X10 is laggy, honestly I think a better description is it's not as "snappy" as some other phones, calling it laggy simply isn't true but it could be much snappier. I personally think the X10 has the nicest hardware on the market atm, and firmly believe 1.6 is holding back the X10 A LOT. I said in another post and I'll say it again, the Desire is the best Android phone on the market right now, if you can wait the X10 could be, but right now it is not.
...patience is a virtue
imma put i this way. no matter what device comes out, there will be those who love it and those who hate it, those who pick at every small thing and those who understand it.
i understand most of us paid a pretty chunk of change on it, but we all knew what was up from the start.
as for the desire, its a good device but thats based on preference. i say the x10 is better only for the fact that its full potential hasnt been reached yet. there is nothing else left in the desire to excite as it is already 2.1'd up and not much more can happen
lol screw a desire, the x10 will be a monster very very soon.

Actually when you put it that way, I should go after the X10
The camera, the shape and the smaller screen (that won't be very usable in daylight) would all bother me on the Desire. On the other hand, people are saying the only lag on the X10 is in timescape when it's pulling down data.
X10 it is!!
Now to decide what carrier to buy it on
Ive jsut made that decision, ive had a Desire for a few weeks now, it is a great phone, does everything really well ( ive jsut come from an HTC HD2) the things that really bothered me were that I couldnt see the screen outside in the sun, and that the screen was small in comparision to the HD2.
Ive had an xperia x10 on test for a few day,s and ive decided that even with the older software, its just a nice phone, of course very subjective, the desire really didnt do much for me aestheticaly, and the X10 is just Wow, again a personal thing.
But the bigger screen is a winner and the better camera.
As soon as it is rooted, we will have 2.1 on it so software wont be an issue.
My desire is now on ebay and will be sold for what I paid for it 2 weeks ago, might even make a little profit on it ;-)
Jsut my 2 pennies worth of course ;-)

Well, the display is super.
I watched a 2h movie outside ... well, not in direct sunlight but under a tree.
The camera on X10 is ok as long as you don't upload the images on your computer and watch them at 100%
If you do it, you will see, they are very soft. No sharpness at all (or is my x10's fault). I asked some people to upload some images (taken outside in nature with trees and grass) not edited but nobody did it.
I'll give that a try tomorrow... will upload the photos.
3 photos'
Looks like the uploader has scaled the file sizes down.... I'll see if I can find somewhere to put the full size images.. or if you PM me your email address I can send them to you.
Haha... done it...

If you had a choice would you buy the X10 again?

This is not a thread to bash or degrade the X10 at all in any way. I really like my X10 it's a great phone, I enjoy using it. Problem is my wife does as well.
So I gave her the phone because she need a good camera and something to watch movies etc with while on vacation.
So now I'm back with my rooted/hacked Magic which I like but not so much after using the X10. I was going to just buy another but wanted to be sure first, so to my question.
Anyone that has tried a different phone and moved to a X10 or has dropped the X10 for a different phone, whats the closest competitor or upgrade?
It has to be usable on Rogers 3g and can't be an Iphone, I will never own an apple product so that shouldn't be a debate.
Thanks for any feedback just want some options, maybe I already have the best one out there.
I would buy it again, I've even turned down an offer to trade mine in for a Desire. Only way I'd switch would be if there was a bigger Snapdragon version of the Legend available.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
X10 all the way
I would buy it again too. I just love the design, the camera, Mediascape and the screen. However I would be really tempted between the X10 and Galaxy S. The Galaxy S has an even better screen then our X10. However the Galaxy sucks design wise, I mean, it's just like an iFart 3G(S), even the menu looks the same. The Galaxy S feels a lot faster though. It just flies through all the different menus and screens.
So if you like me love the design, camera and Mediascape of the X10 , then buy it again. Otherwise I would take a good look at the Galaxy S.
X10 it is a wonderful phone, but this delay about android 2.1 and froyo annoys me...
I was looking through the specs on the Galaxy-S. Actually thought it would be a pretty nice phone till I actually saw it. And the fact it has a AMOLED screen, they seem blurry to me and way over saturated.
How does the Nexus compare, can't seem to see anything else that compares to the X10.
I will only exchange my X10 for a Droid X or dell Streak.
Droid X becuase it has similar specs (camera and bigger screen) and good firmware support. Dell Streak for the screen size and possibly 2.2 very soon.
But love my X10 for its camera, screen, Mediascape, Dialler, TrackID and lack of firmware update. You just cant beat that.

The Droid X looks very nice, not big on the hardware keyboard but the rest of the specs look wicked and the looks itself I don't mind king of industrial. But I don't see that they have one for Rogers 3G bands (same as AT&T) It would be right on the top of my list if they have one that will work Rogers. Streak it very nice but getting into tablet size IMO.
I would buy it again.
I can overlook the 2.1 delay and no 2.2 in the near future.
I'm enjoying my first taste of Android.
The media capabilities are nice, video & audio are clear and smooth.
The processor is extremely quick.
I like the large screen.
I don't need a hardware keyboard.
It is less practical than winmo, but more entertainment oriented.
The camera is excellent.
I think you should wait a couple weeks and see what happens with flashing CM6 on the X10, if things go well then I'd go for another one for sure, otherwise choose something else.
Having said that, if you can't wait an additional few months lol, buy the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S Captivate...geeze mouthful or HTC Desire (which Telus will have in stock real soon and I think will work on Rogers 3G??) still imho one of, if not THE best phones on the market. And come October/November there will be even more great choices on the market...patience is a virtue

Exactly the same sentiments as me. I just wanted an android phone and my carrier only offered X10 at a discounted rate. But I am extremely pleased. Plus it makes my blackberry friends jealous since they try to talk crap about my phone to make themselves feel better.
I would yes, as it's a beautiful piece of equipment, and will happily sit out the wait for 2.1, and who knows, maybe sometime later the devs on here will get 2.2 on it.
4 months ago... yes
today no... i would wait for September or even Christmas.
Yes.....after de-applefying myself from my old Iphone, i love this new bit of Kit. Sure ths OS isnt current and the battery is a little needy. But the hardware/software relationship is great and the device its self is fantastic.
I love my X10
Rooted already, tethering done, since root my batter goes x2 time , great thanks to xda people.
Screen is so great.
Well a lot of things, maybe the Froyo not support is the only thing I miss here, but I'm patient about it
As far as I'm concerned its the best android phone out there, I've tried the nexus one, milestone and the HTC legend and the x10 was the best when it came to reception and battery life. I just wish it came with 2.1 at the very least. I'm on my 3rd x10 btw, I keep going back to it
Thanks for all the opinions guys. Yeah I'm a fan since I bought it that's why it's hard to figure if I want another one or try out the latest and greatest.
Not new to Android I've had a Magic since the day they came to Canada I love to OS no selling me on that. Battery is a none issue I charge every night regardless, had to do it with my Magic as well. (heavy user)
So far I think the only one that looks to be able to grab my attention from the X10 would be the Droid X if I can find one that uses Rogers 3G bands.

I can't seem to find anything up and coming that would make me wait. Any info on what you think would be worth the wait. I'm not in a huge hurry, but now that I've used the X10 it's hard to use the little Magic again.
I just did as I moved from T-mobile to AT&T. Had X10i in white for a long while now and then purchase X10a in Black. I didn't like the Black X10 as much as the white one. So, purchased a White X10a. Yesterday, I went to AT&T store and played with Samsung Captivate and have to tell you I like my X10a even more. SE came up with a design that can't be beaten for a long while. I wonder how much better can SE do with their X10 upgrade.
Some things they can do to make X10 upgrade even more sexy:
1. Little sleeker or keep same size but fit in bigger and better battery.
2. Sony Ericsson logo on top or Xperia logo at bottom to act like Notification light (battery drainer?)
3. 4 buttons
4. A Glossy Premium Carbon metal body (like Z series Vaio) for the front side.
absolutely i never buy sonyericsson device one more time!
i have just not really happy with T68 (some years ago..) and p900i.
i try SE X10 for the top class hw feature, but i have to admit that this "phone" is not very usefull for me.
battery life is a huge problem.
the touchscreen some time is not responding fine.
the sound quality and volume level is not sufficient (i have Nokia N95-1, is tremendous louder compared to x10 !!) , that's absolutely NOT acceptable from a brand wich contain the word "sony" on his brandname.
plus, the lag of the official software development on this phone.
if this is the top-class device from SE, it must deserve a top-class development , i think
sorry for too many words, but i'm really disappointed with this phone.
I Would yes,
I love the phone , i love the design , x10 feels like a classy phone with very elegant design.
I am very satisfied with the latest updates , my battery life holds more than enough.
And i love the freaking screen !!!
I cant wait to run 2.1
Cheers

Thinking of jumping to Samsung Captivate- Canadian User

Hi to all Canadian users
Samsung Galaxy S series phone is coming to Canada very soon. Almost all the carriers has one. I am with rogers and they are getting the captivate.
I am really really tired of waiting for 2.1 /2.2 or just getting all the bugs fixed. There is no 65K screen, no multi touch (please don't start arguing that there is no use of MT, there are other forums for that). I don't even know how many other stuffs I should be complaining about....someone cares to fill them!
So yeah I am jumping the ship when Captivate comes to Rogers. Anyone else wanna join??
I personally think the samsung captivate lacks in style, and It's samsung you wouldn't get great support either. I ready stick with S.E design is much better.
Why did you buy x10 if you knew it had 1.6 firmware...
Its your choice my friend just look in the Samsung Galaxy S forum before you decide to buy it. Apparently there is a lot of people unhappy with it, problems like overheating, sluggish performance, burn ins on the screen, fast battery drain, bad build quality (cheap plastic) and lots of other things. I am also in Canada and looked at it as an option but i came to the conclusion that it wont be better than the x10 or at least not worth the switch. The fact that its a Samsung phone puts me away also, oh and no flash or light for the camera? wtf. Anyway make sure you read all the problems that people have with it before you buy it so that you know what you re getting into.
Yah im looking into the vibrant myself. Then again im also thinking about the n900 still. Going to check a bell store tomorrow to try out the vibrant. The screen looks amazing in all the reviews ive seen. Really gotta check it out.
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
Not a bad phone but i would say, wait a few weeks and after the launch take the decision.
It does some things better than the X10 (faster, multitouch, froyo), it does some things worse (no LED flash, IMO worse screen, worse build quality, poor support).
Just make sure you know the phone before you buy it. You probably won't regret it, but it's not any significant improvement (aside from OS)...
Look, if someone with a Desire or a Galaxy S wants to do a straight trade, then I am sold, but I am not going to go through the hassle of selling my X10, then forking over an extra $250 to get either one of those.
At that rate, I'd rather have the iPhone 4 (no reception issues with any that I've tested in Vancouver).
I would hop on the train as well, but I do not like the physical built of the captivate... If it was the i9000 or vibrant, I would have switched. I'm a sucker for Super AMOLED, I rarely use my phone outside, I always use it inside.
i would stick with x10 . i played with galaxy s today at bell . its a nice phone but the built quality is really bad and worse technical support and no flash . x10 is getting 2.1 end of month or early september so its not long of a wait. and iphone 4 is out of the question with consumer report rated it *dont buy it* u cant do much with it even u jailbreak it there there is alot of restrictions n stuff u cant do and android os u can customize the sh**t of out it . i did a test on iphone 4 and my x10 and x10 loads quicker and faster . even i was soo frustrated about to sell it. but u cant sell it for much so id rather keep it . the only phone i would get other then x10 would be desire . which is coming to telus august 6th
I would probably stay out of it.Checking out the forums. It drops a lot of calls and has some major GPS and lag issues. Of course, if you want to go by numbers you should go for the Captivate given it has a higher version of the OS installed. I have used the i9000 though and except for the screen, which is gorgeous, there isnt much there.oh and touchwiz looks like it has been ported from a funskool toy.
i had a samsung pixon12, build quality was cheap, and that phone stopped working after a month even after it was brand new, samsung didnt help me at all and i had to pay extra money from the store i bought it from in order to get it repaired. after that i never went back to samsung and i dont think i will.
the x10 is nice but u are right it does have its share of problems. if ur gonna switch u might as well make a proper upgrade and go for the EVO 4G or the soon to come out Dell Streak (5 inch screen!!/1ghz processor [ also runs 1.6 but soon to get an update supposedly])
anyways im gonna stick with my x10 for now until i can get a good price on the dell streak becuase i use my phone a lot for entertainment due to commuting to university, so a 5 inch screen would do me a lot of good
i dont reccomend samsung. HTC is fantastic though ive used the TOUCH HD/touch pro 2/HD2 and was very happy with them. but hated windows mobile. dont know about dell but if i make the switch ill come back here and let u guys know how that worked out lol
hope it helps u figure out where u wanna head.
Well, this is a thread about Canadian users, so the Evo 4G is out of the question, and the iPhone 4's "reception issue" is not a problem here, at least in Vancouver.
Also, as much as the Streak intrigues me, it is basically the same hardware and software as the X10 (1.6 but without lovely Rachel), and I'm not sure it has a TRUE multi-touch panel like the Droid Incredible either.
I've yet to play with the Galaxy S, but if it is as terribly built as some of you say, then the only other viable option is the Desire, which is put together like a tank and has LED flash. Its design is pedestrian, but the thing is SOLID.
Still tho the desire is not an improve ment over the x10. Think about it smaller screen, ****ter camera, ugly at front of x10 and screen issues like pink tint, burn ins and broken dualtouch, only thing better at the moment is software and a little more ram. I dont know why people think this way, you probably dont have your x10 set up right so that you think this way, I will probably make a video of mine and show everyone how fast, smooth and beautiful it runs I just have a feeling some people dont know how to use adw right and make the best out of their phone. I mean if your ready to switch your x10 for a desire there must be somthing wrong, In matter of fact there is a lot of people here that have switched from desire to x10 ask them why they switched.

Those screen issues affect the SLCD model? I wasn't aware of that.
Just because the screen is smaller, it doesn't make it worse since the resolutions are nearly identical.
I like the Desire because of its very solid build (have you held one?), extra RAM, and best of all, latest Android builds with HTC Sense.
That being said, the Desire is far more expensive if purchased from unauthorized dealers.

Most likely not the one with the SLCD but still explain how is it an improvement over the x10. Just the little more ram? Or the software that we will have soon?
I still wondering why people that would like to switch from X10 to another phone, post their suffer of having X10 here. You want change then go change, no need for second opinion from us.
I buy X10 knowing its Android 1.6, know that update will takes months to come. But i buy because i like Timescape and Mediascape, which is the main selling point to X10.
At my office, i have a lot of android phone for development test phone, i have HTC Dream, LG GW 620, Nexus One, Motorola DEXT/CLIQ, Samsung Galaxy Spica and my Sony Ericsson X10. I can say some of strong point of X10 compared to the other android in list.
Prebuilt media player is nice, compared to Nexus One basic player
The phonebook looks very nice, i like the full hi-res photo in the phonebook Timescape, plus seeing the photo when some one calling or we make call
Watching video while riding public transport in 16 : 9 screen resolution, without letterbox (most of movie i watched in phone is in HD ratio)
It comes with WMV, WMA playing capability
Timecape make me easier to read multiple one or two line SMS from my friends
Slick design of web-browser compared to other phone basic browser
Great product support (except for the firmware updates) from SE, like the PlayNow, i buy some songs with it, and also TrackID.
Stuff that is missing, but can still live without it
No multiple Gmail account can be set in the phone Gmail app (love the threaded view of gmail
Picasa and Facebook photo is not cache in the phone, have to download them everytime you want to see (this decision is made, because if the all photos is prefetched, people living in country with expensive GPRS will get mad, i know because i working in mobile sector)
No multitouch, but this i can live nicely without it
No Facebook and Phonebook photo autosync like Nexus One
So that is some of my opinion of why i choose X10, i guess some of us would think the same.
One think that i bit disappointed with X10 is that first when their haven't release, i though there will be a front facing camera, a lot of website says will have one. Which turnout to be Light Sensor or Proximity Sensor. hahaha.
But can live without it anyway, even though i like making 3g video call with my GF.
Got a chance to play with Bells Vibrant. Its nice. Its really nice actually. The screen is amazing. Its easily better than the x10's. Its very light. Didnt feel cheap to me, just insanely light. I guess to some that means cheap. The ui is too iphone like to me. But I guess we can always change that. I like the front facing camera on it, we all know this will start being used now that apple has told everyone they should use it. Also like the tvout function. Im definetely tempted to get it.

The Captivate is a nice phone, the best of the Galaxy S versions, it steals its looks from the X10 I would say, but I would never give up the X10's screen and camera. AMOLED? No thanks, HTC is finally abandoning those screens. Plus we're getting 2.1 the next month at the latest, and from what I know we can expect further upgrades fairly soon after.
As an aside I don't use the built in Gmail app, I find the web version is much better, is the Gmail app on 2.1 better then the one in 1.6?

It's in the software, man I like HTC Sense. Rachel is nice, but not with 1.6. The Desire should get 2.2 by the time that we get 2.1. Bear in mind, I have no "desire" to sell my X10 for a Desire, but I do admire its build. It feels REALLY solid.

Should I buy an X10

I have fallen in love with the X10 since it was leaked last year. Its the only phone I think the ui is sexy. I have a mytouch slide I like it but wouldn't mind an X10 for a while. I have dug thru the forums for this phone and I see it has some issues and I don't see any roms for it yet. Since I'm on tmo usa I will have to wait for a unlocked phone to come about. My questions are:
how is the performance?
Are there really that many issues or are a few select people having problems?
And are there any devs on working on this phone?
I know the update to 2.1 is taking awhile cause the ui and I don't expect sony to give it froyo but maybe some dev will. Thanks guys.

yes there are issues with X10 now but you can wait until update, at present it has 1.6 android which is out of date buit soon sony Xperia X10 is getting 2.1
you should wait until then and if you can not wait then its better to go for motorola droid x or desire they both are good phones with good screens, multitouch ( for games etc ) and good call volumes latest android

Frankly speaking X10 is not as good as it was 2 months back........back then there were no option, now you have better alternatives.....starting with Galaxy s,Droid 2 ,Droid X and whole lot lot of bunch
P.S If you really want to stand out from the crowd get a White X10
Every phone with its weakness, X10 with low call volume(ok for me),1.6 OS, no MT(not needed for me),but the others have their issue too just like the Samsung Galaxy with the GPS signal(losing it).
So if you can live with the X10's so called ''problems'' it is a great device,if not then buy something else.
Can't say the other phone doesn't have issue either.
everything have feature that other phone doesn't. I personally don't see xperia 10 is behind on other phones because it is using a personalized android 1.6 vs 2.2 which have nothing desirable for me.
the 3 major feature you will miss are
720 recording - which i am sure you can live without it.
16 million colour - once again, my eyes can't tell the differences. that well to even brother.
flash - xperia 10 can watch flash enable media ( can watch flash movie @ tudou.com) but can't use them (as menu or web content) with skyfire.
i have no idea why that akshay insist it have low call volumne, i think his phone is busted or he got 1 of those millionth faulty one. I personally have no problem calling out or hearing people talks on my phone unless i am in an heavy noisy area that i can't even hear someone shout @ 1M away.
There are app that can hack your speaker i think if you rooted on the market.
Mind you, if you compare the latest phone you will only found them having
1. 2.1 or 2.2 soon
2. a front camera for video conference, (i live in canada, no one use smart phone with front camera here)
3. larger screen by 0.1 inch
4. 16 million color but worser camera.
5. If you didn't know 90% of those phone can't use under bright sun, but guess what, Xperia 10 CAN.
6. they are all "black", but mine is WHITE and have great design http://seinsider.com/?p=2525 If i will find a way to get one of those later and show off.
7. I like sony, i like having a sony brivia x2, sony ps3, a sony BR, a sony dog, and ...no i don't like sony laptops.
If you are like me that like the design and the white X10 when I first saw the pics of it last November, then I say, go for it. When it came out of the market last March, I said to myself, I'll wait for it to get the latest Android 2.1 and buy it. Big Mistake! I was not satisfied with the other phone that I bought, so after three months of using that phone, I got bored with it, and finally bought X10. Now, I'm using the X10 only, and only once in a while, use the other one. I can never be happier...
Thanks for all the replies. Glad to see people are happy with the phone. 1.6 is not a deal breaker for me. And yes if I buy one definitely the white one has my eye. I can careless for froyo cause I had froyo on my mytouch slide. Nothing I won't miss. I think I will head to a at&t store and play with one. Thanks for the link awesome shells. Anymore thoughts are welcomed.

I have the White X10i, its been great for me so far! The battery life is really good, the camera is awesome and the interface is a pleasure to use!
In regards to the 2.1 update that we are all longing after so much, the only thing I would really embrace with open arms is the ability to record video in 720p!.
just fyi in case you missed it, the X10i has 3G banding for T-Mobile, and the X10a has the banding for AT&T. Also I thought AT&T is only selling the black version? So from what I understand you want, you should buy an unlocked white X10i off the net.
X10 is great, best looking phone on the market and best camera in an Android phone. Screen resolution is awesome, videos etc are not as vibrant as AMOLED or Super AMOLED screen sure, but text is sharper and being usable in sunlight is a huge plus. For Canadians I think it's the best overall Android option still, you guys have a lot more choices down south and I can't say the same. Froyo is huge regardless of your experience, SE has done a lot to make 1.6 good, but it's shoddy customization isn't enough at this point in the game compared to all the 2.2 offerings on the market now.
If I were you I would wait a few more weeks until you know what that big HSPA+ device for T-Mo is before making any big purchases

I love mine -it's the dogs cogs.. There's 1Gb of Memory but it's use is restricted by Android 1.6.. so at the moment it's using... Download Cache - 111Mb; Data - 465Mb; RAM - 268Mb. (reading directly from Android System Info app)
Youre better off buying an unlock iphone or waits for the sony ericsson psp2 because the x10 is rather slow and no brand name app.

With gadgetry it's unpossible to form an opinion just by reading specs and reviews. When you look at the specs of the X10 it's a good phone, when you look at the software versions it's a poor phone. But the most important part, the feel, you'll have to find out yourself.
When I replaced my iPhone with my X10 I was a "smart shopper" and tried out many different devices, usually I just grab what looks cool. My favourites were the X10, Touch HD2 (I know, but I liked the hardware) and the Desire. The Touch HD2 fell out of the running pretty quickly since it runs WinMo and I wanted Android.
The Desire is a really nice phone, it's got good hardware and it runs Android but it had a few problems. First off the screen is pretty poor. The colours are great but it's way too fuzzy for my taste. The general solidity, or feel, was also pretty bad. It's feels too plastic and cheap for my taste.
The X10 felt slightly sluggish and bogged down, but since it's software I figured I could fix that pretty easily which I did. The Android version worried me at first but some investigation turned up that the differences between this custom 1.6 and the HTC version of 2.0 were pretty minimal. In the end I went for the X10 because it has a way better screen, it has a more solid feel to it and a pretty nice camera.
This was a few months ago but no new phones have really caught my eye, most look too non-descript or iPhone-like for my taste.
There's my reasoning, hope it helps.
