HTC Sync
Synchronizing Microsoft Outlook Contacts
HTC Sync lets you synchronize Outlook or Windows Address Book (Outlook Express) contacts on your PC with your ANDROID phone.
Note If you have a Microsoft Exchange account, you can set up an Exchange email account and synchronize emails, contacts, and calendar items from the Exchange account.
Install HTC Sync on your PC
You can find the HTC Sync installer on the provided microSD card (or the disk that may have come with your device).
1. Make sure the microSD card is installed on the phone and then connect the phone to the computer using the provided USB cable.
2. Set the phone as a USB drive. To learn how, see “To set the phone’s storage card as a USB drive” in Chapter 1.
3. On the computer, copy HTCSync.exe from the storage card to the computer’s desktop.
4. Double-click HTCSync.exe and then follow the installation instructions on the screen.
Set up HTC Sync
1. On your computer, run HTC Sync.
2. Connect the phone to the computer using the provided USB cable.
Note On your phone, check Notifications on the status bar for the icon to know if the phone recognizes HTC Sync.
3. The first time you synchronize the phone, the Synchronization Settings Wizard starts automatically to help you set up HTC Sync.
4. On the Synchronisation Settings Wizard screen, click Next.
5. Select the PC application you want to synchronize with and then click Next.
6. Select the categories you want to synchronize and then click Next.
Note After clicking Next, you may be asked to select additional categories. This page will only appear if any additional categories are supported by the connected phone.
7. Select when to synchronize data and then click Next.
8. Check the settings that you have chosen and then click Finish.
Note By default, synchronization will start when you click Finish. If you do not want synchronization to start right away, clear the Start synchronisation when I click Finish check box.
If you want to have more customization features when setting up HTC Sync, you can use Manual settings. To learn how to set up HTC Sync using Manual settings, consult the HTC Sync help on your PC. To learn how to open the help, see “To open HTC Sync help” later in this chapter.

Customising what ActiveSync syncs

I'm using ActiveSync 4.1 and was wondering whether it is possible to select what to sync in Outlook? The reason for this is I have numerous calenders, contact folders and notes, which I normally separate into personal and business.
use groups ?
Is this groups within Outlook or ActiveSync? I can't find any option for this.
The sync'ing software I've used in the past for SonyEricsson's and Nokia's allowed me to choose which "folders" to sync. I'm a bit surprised ActiveSync doesn't have anything similar.
Once you've performed your initial connection with your device in AS, you can configure your sync preferences in the options for your connection once you've established the relationship between device & host (your computer) by going to Tools -> Options in the ActiveSync application window. You can select a category of data (Calendar, E-Mail, etc) and provided the option has more configurable settings, hit Options to fire up that dialog box.
The quickest way (at least the quickest I can see, as it requires no initial connection before configuration) is to go onto your device, go into ActiveSync, go Menu -> Options and select which items you'd like to sync with your device there.
I can see the option on both my phone and ActiveSync to sync which Outlook component but I'd like to be able to choose exactly which subfolder to sync. For example I have 3 contacts folders and 2 calender folders in my Outlook profile but I only want to be able to choose which folders to sync. Not sure if I have explained this clearly...
I think ActiveSync will only sync the main folder in Outlook. So if you have 2 calender folders it will only sync the main one. You can choose what date range (past week, past 2 weeks etc..) and which sub folders in mail.
Gav.
Just tried creating a second calender folder and put some meetins in. ActiveSync did NOT sync these to my PDA.
Possibly one of the programs here might do what you need: http://pocketpccentral.net/software/sync.htm
Gav.
Thanks for the advice Gav, I'll have a look at pocketpccentral.

How I got HTC Sync working on my Rogers Magic

I have seen many people asking about this so here goes...
Go to http://www.htc.com/tw/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=564&news_id=167 and scroll to the bottom of the page
Download HTC Sync (from the --Select File-- dropdown list)
Download HTCDriverUpdate_WinXP (also from the same --Select File-- dropdown list) ***The second dropdown list is to choose a location to download from***
Install HTC Sync on your PC
Connect your phone to your PC via USB cable
Turn on your phone
Install HTCDriverUpdate_WinXP and let it run (1-2 minutes for me)
Go to your phone notification area and click to run HTC Sync on your phone
Voila!
PS_1. As of today, HTC Sync only allows you to synchronize MS Outlook Contacts with your HTC Android phone.
PS_2. If you want to sync your Outlook Calendar with your phone, your best bet might be to export from your Outlook Calendar items as a *.csv file and import to your Google Calendar.
Hope it helps.

I cant get android sync to save..

I cannot get the android to PC sync to save my contacts on my PC. I go thru and sync it but I dont get anything under the summary. Any idea?
( It does go thru with the whole sync process )
Did you go into settings on the HTC Sync program and check the box to "sync this catagory"? You can also do it for your Calander. Also you can tell the sync program if you wish the pc to overwrite the phone or vise, versa.
The HTC Sync program only works with Windows Outlook, not sure about Outlook Lite or any other such program.
I hope these pics are of help to you Mate.......

Sorry for the noob question: How to I sync my Contacts over from my Nexus?

I am sure it's been covered, but I can't sync this to get my Google contacts for anything. I keep getting error code: 0x80072ee7
This is my first WimMo phone so go easy!
go to your gmail on your pc, then you want to go to contacts, then export contacts, and save them as an outlook file...then you want to log into windows live (if you dont have an account, make one up, and you can still use another email (you dont have to use a hotmail account), then after loading your contact file into windows live on your pc via the web, then you want to open windows live on your phone, and log in, then your contacts will sync, and be saved, like google, on windows live....
your lucky i was in a helpful/good mood because i just picked up my HD2, this all is windows help search away...
although you might have done this, a bit more info on how you got the error would be good...
There was a good thread about this in the HD2 General forum, unfortunately I can't remember the title. You can probably find it with a good search. It's within the last few days.
Basically.. in Settings -> Data Services -> ActiveSync, you can set up an email account that links to your gmail account and syncs the contacts. The account type should be Exchange. That's as much as I can remember. Just do a thread search, you'll find it.
if your contacts are on your gmail account, you can install SEVEN from here (You have to join their beta program and once you do, you can click on the "download software" link. Please select the consumer edition, and agree to the terms (read them carefully first, the reason is explained below). When you do you will be presented with the choice to receive a text message on your phone or other download options, select other download options, select HTC as the manufacturer and select either the P3450 or the T8282 as your model (the HD2 is not officially supported, but it works well at least on mine) and then you can download the cab.
The catch with SEVEN is that when you set up your account, it will send a text message to a number in the UK, they do that to register your phone on their system, and they only do it once per email account, although if you flash your phone and reinstall SEVEN, it will send the message again when you add your account again.
When you set up your account, you will be able to sync your email, your contacts and your calendar, and it will be setup as push. You can do this with gmail, AOL, yahoo, hotmail, and even custom accounts.
Hope this helps.
Phone the sound of it, you already set up an activesync to get your gmail email/contacts/calendar. I'm guessing you didn't unselect 'tasks.' If that is the case, then just go to activesync and in options, unselect 'tasks.' This should fix your problem (google doesn't support tasks so you can't sync them).
You can also deselect the tasks in data settings in the settings tab.

stop WMDC from syncing my HD2 contacts and calendar with Outlook

Hello All,
I have another question/problem.
How do I get WMDC from erasing all the contacts and calendar items in my HD2? My HD2 does not have any partnership with the WMDC. I only need to open my WMDC when I will be updating Radio, for example. Even when I choose a partnership which does not sync anything, my contacts are still erased.
Thanks.
if you already have a partnership, delete it, then when you connect the phone, there are only two options in wmdc, "set up" or "connect without setting up" (or words to that effect, i'm not at a pc) choose the second option and it will connect but not sync.
