X10: Tips & Tricks - XPERIA X10 General

Haven't seen a thread like this about so thought i'd start one.
Basically any tips & tricks you have found with the X10.
How to switch the Unlock Screen between left and right handed
Swipe backward along the unlock bar and it will start to mirror across the screen

i hate the default keyb so here is a link to the skinned high res offerings from other devices. tried it and worked. now no missed key presses and vibez feedback on to. just download zip of your choiuce and extract the htc_ime.pak and click.apk from the system/app/ folders within the update.zip. use linda file manager or astro to install. mine works well as i chose the black with blue letters and green func keys. very nice

HTC Random Access

Hello,
Htc random access is addon for contact see the pics.
Can somebody help me with it working with wizard, i cannot make it work.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=339507 check this link for download and more info.
looks like nobody is interested in this application???
What does it do? Allow you to quickly go to the proper letter by sliding down the side?
I use pocketcm for my contacts. It allows you to scroll with your finger and has this option built in.

But it takes 1 mb of program memory and and the HTC contact application just merely takes 20kb.
this is wat i did
just put the 3 images in your windows directory and the exe called RadomAccess, then use a reg editor to put this in:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\11 3]
@=Contacts
Open="\Windows\RandomAccess.exe"
hope it works
It doesn't work that way. What device are you using?
huhh!!
I am using the htc p3600....
I have htcaccess it on my new schaps 4 RC.. .. but i dont get it to work..
how does it work exactly...

Under Options in Contacts, you have to remove the tick on "Show Alfabetic List".
That did the trick for me anyway.... Hope it helps!
thats it.. thnx
greets
Is there somebody still working to port it on wizard???
Tested it on my mogul... It adds the functionality to use shortcuts to get to letters from the shortcut letters on the side but you've got to have a touch style scroller to actually be able to scroll down the list since you'll be missing the scroll bar.
It also apparently didn't remove completely when I uninstalled it.
*Edit: It is also not useful for non-latin alphabet contacts.
updated cab
I found a cab on the elf forum but it had some flaws
first of all there was a space between M and SCONTACTS
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:M SCONTACTS]
"1"=":MSPOUTLOOK RandomAccess"
"0"="RandomAccess"
I corrected this and changed the values in the following manner
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSCONTACTS]
"1"="RandomAccess.exe"
"0"="RandomAccess"
loads a lot quicker on my trinity now
at last added the following key
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\AddrBook]
"Flags"=dword:01004000
this after the suggestion by muyan

[EDIT: when i wrote this post there wasn't any space between M and SCONTACTS, but when i reviewed it there is one can this have something to with the colon in front of the M? probably why this error got into the cab in the first place (cut and paste) . Well, it's not there in the cab anymore]

Speed Dial... no shortcut

I've found that theres no speed dial shortcut.
On the Touch you simply press the Green Call key, press button down on the thumb pad and all the speed dials are there.. this isn't so on the dual.
has anyone found a easy wasy to find them with less than 5 clicks?
If not, does anyone know what .exe runs the speed dial, so I can create a shortcut on the Start menu.
Tnx
Steve

I personally find smart dialing to be a breeze... Just start keying in the first couple of letters and you'll get the matches... I have over 400 contacts and I find it a very efficient way to dial

What about assigning the contact tiles in the Touch Flo as you speed dials? Then you can have pictures of your contacts too?
my "workaround" for your reference:
1. add a shortcut to HTCActionScreen.exe (i.e. the action screen we get when sliding down the keypad) to Windows\Start Menu\Program Files\
2. now should be able to add HTCActionScreen.exe to the HTC Home Launcher tab
usage:
(click 1) launcher tab -> (click 2) launch action screen -> key in whatever you like with the hardware keypad to enjoy the quickdial feature
just for exp sharing.
But why do you need a shortcut for that?
I you anyway use the hardware keyboard to use quickdial,
why not simply start actionscreen by sliding out the keyboard?

1. when i'm so stupid that i can't press the first key before the action screen timeout and disappear. in this case, i don't want to slide the keypad back and out again.
2. when i want to use the other shortcuts on the action screen.
Hehe, ok
But one hint: u don't need to close and reopen the slider.
The sensor is on the last 5mm.
Just pull it a little bit back and release.

hehe... i really did this previously.
the shortcut was added later when i found that sometimes (though not frequent at all) i may want to access the shortcuts on the action screen without opening the keypad.

htctoucher Touch Theme, PocketCM

Here is a simple theme for PocketCM to match the graphics of the HTC Touch
Attached is my skin for the keyboard (post #2) and my theme for the contact app (end of this post)
Go HERE if you want to see the screenshot in your browser instead of in a .zip (it is too large to upload here as an image)
Bubble update:
............Post #9 Gradient with arrows (GA)
............Post #10 No Gradient with arrows (NGA)
............Post #11 No Gradient No Arrows (NGNA)
Slight update:
.............fixed battery icon when depleted
.............fixed unreadsms icon
.............changed cell signal graphic
Hints about this Contact theme:
............ to go back a page, hold the upper right hand corner (where the OK icon is)
............ to exit when the OK icon is visible in the upper right hand corner, tap (do not hold) that same corner
There are three versions - the only difference is the sms panel view:
............ htctoucher Touch.zip (in the preview this is the screenshot with nothing written in the smsbox)
............ htctoucher Touch sms box.zip (in the preview this is the screenshot with "Old SMS Box" written in the sms box)
............ htctoucher Touch smspanel.zip (in the preview this is the screenshot with "Old SMS Panel" written in the sms box)
If you want this with an index on the right like the HTC Touch default contacts has, check out post #6
And there you have it!
Enjoy!
htctoucher
I may be updating the SMS Panel version to have my usual bubbles from my 16 variant theme (not sure yet)
I am not sure what the cell signal icon looks like.. as I havent tested that yet (it is small so that the titles of the pages can fit within the given space)
htc touch keyboard skin
And here is my keyboard skin
There are two versions
1. with (first screenshot) - you can see that next to the letter "a" and "l" there are faux letter buttons (they do not do anything when pressed, but give the keyboard more of a complete feel)
2. without (third screenshot) - this does not have the faux letter buttons, as you will see when comparing the two screenshots
to get your keyboard to have the same layout and look exactly the same, drag both files in whichever .zip you choose to use into your PCMKeyboard folder on your device, and then choose those files in the keyboard's options menu
enjoy!
htctoucher
wow very cute.. lol thank you very much
Cool, thanks. I am going to try it out as I am always in search of the 'prefect' virtual keyboard.
I am like Indiana Jones....and the valley of the QWERTY typos.
man i love this keyboard. u make the most pimped keyboards and pocketcm themes bro.
Index
Here it is with an index:
Why is it that when the letter confirmation image ("feedback") comes up, the letter is half cut off? For example when i press r, the little "r" image comes up above the letter to let me know that i am pressing "r", however that image is half cut off, so that i only see half an r. Is this normal? This didnt happen with the skin i was previously using. I am using the .skin and .layout file.

Number of characters in SMS and first line of notes and OK-Button
Hello htctoucher,
i really like your theme!
But there are some little bugs i've noticed:
1: The "characters left" (160/160) in the SMS Chat doesn't seem to change while typing. Only after a "pop-up" of the PocketCM-Keyboard apears over it, the display at this place is changed. Maybe its a bug of PocketCM.
2.: The first line of the contact-notes seems to be covered by the infobar.
3.: The OK-button in the contact-notes doesn't work. To get back to the contact details screen, I've to wipe over the screen.
I'm using PocketCM V0.21
and PocketCM Keyboard V0.14
Thanks for your reply!
Where do i extract this theme?
Just wanna add that I think your themes are awesome. Been using them for 5 mins and love the look and layout.

This is known bug, but easy to work around. The character counter is accurate for about the first 50 or so characters, after that you may notice it stops counting. If this occurs, just click on the sms bubbles to hide the keyboard. The counter will update. Then you can click back into the SMS Box to start typing again. It doesnt bother me that much and i like that it is above the box where you type, but havent found a fix.
2.: The first line of the contact-notes seems to be covered by the infobar.

I was not aware of that, if I get time I will update this theme to fix that. In the mean time if I interpret what you are saying correctly, I am sure you can just hit the enter key on the keyboard a few times until you can see what you are typing!
3.: The OK-button in the contact-notes doesn't work. To get back to the contact details screen, I've to wipe over the screen.

For some reason this is like that on all the themes, I suspect it is a bug with the application. Pressing "OK" saves the notes, but does not exit them. If you want to save what you have written, press OK, then Cancel. If you want to discard your changes only press Cancel.
hope that helps!

Do not extract.
Download the .zip file you want to use and just place the whole thing in your PocketCM Contacts folder on your device, but do not take any of the files out of the .zip!

Looking for BEST BLACK KEYBOARD!! - SOLVED AND FOUND BETTER!!!!

Looking for the black keyboard in yota contacts to be used as all keyboards. Essentially i want Diamond original to be black
****************************
Allright LADIES and GENTS, Found THE nicest KEYBOARD in BLACK!
Step 1: Unzip File and copy the unzipped folder directly under PROGRAM FILES on you DEVICE (not INTERNAL)
Step 2: Run fingerkey_register file and select yes!
Step 3: Reboot Phone, and under SETTING, KEYBOARD select Finger Keyboard for Default keyboard
** If you dont like the PGDN buttons on the bottom, no fear
Rename SKIN file in SKINS DIR to SKIN3 and rename the rename SKIN1 to SKIN.
The page down buttons will now appear on the 123 page.
PS Found that on Touch HD ported roms, everytime you reboot phone it defaults to TOUCH KB, so just hit keyboard button at bottom and select finger. If anyone can fix this that would be great!
TO REMOVE - Unregistered it, then soft reset. Now go and delete the entire FingerKeyb folder. That should remove it all.
If the yota keyboard could be used as the normal keyboard is would be awesome!
IT CAAAAAAAANT!!!
does the yota phone use the normal diamond type keyboard for the rest of windows?
I inverted colours in some keyboard files now, I'll post them in few days, when I edit all of them.

Hey.
does it exist anything able to make the keyboards on Diamond ROM 203 swe to become black? i've tried alot of things and it always ends with a Hardware reset.
would have been nice with a black skin for the Dial app too. now i'm using assets_black dial, but i need to copy the file after each soft reset.
finally,
I'm deeply impressed by all the hard work you guys have done, to develop some amazing apps/skins for the Diamond.

[Q] What is the best alternative keyboard for nook touch?

Hi
What is the best alternative keyboard for nook touch?
Thanks
I try a lot of keybords today. Two works fine (much better than nook's keyboard):
1. Go Keyboard
cons: You can't see any word in setings page (eink compatibility I guess)
2. Swiftkey
cons: Annoying preview when press keys and you can't turn it off.

Sorry for resurrecting this thread, but I just got a chance to experiment a bit more with GO Keyboard. Yeah, it totally sucks that you can't see ANY text on the Settings page..... and I'd kill to find out how to shut off the key preview (upon key presses). Love the keyboard but it gets sooooo messy when preview is on.
Kudos to anyone who knows which item in the settings list shuts it off!
I installed GO keyboard on my phone so I can see the text in the settings from there. Key preview, popup, is in Display settings (Tv/ square with chainwheel symbol), and than fourth setting from the bottom.
To install new languages you can just download them from market and than switch directly from the keyboard.

Thanks for noticing this thread AND helping me out with perfect instructions! Much obliged!
Is there a chance someone with Go Keyboard on their phone could post screenshots or a list of the menus? I've been blindly checking and unchecking to change things which is not working too well.
Hacker Keyboard
I tried GO Keyboard, but it had a little too much animation for my liking. I did a bit of Googling, and I found Hacker's Keyboard. The version on the Market requires a newer version of Android than we have on the Nook, but I found an apk here: http://code.google.com/p/hackerskeyboard/issues/detail?id=57 that is redone for 2.1. Been running it for a day now, and it seems to work great.

yes, hacker's keyboard seems to be the best for nook. unfortunately it is dark. It would be great to have white skin (similar to standard nook keyboard).

Awesome, that worked!
I was copy/paste-ing the wrong apk.
Thank you
Hackers Keyboard works great for me.
I had trouble when in google talk app as it displayed only 2/3 of my keyboard but installed hackers keyboard and now it works fine
Hackers keyboard on android market wont work because its for 2.3+ android version but they made version for 2.1.
To install Hackers Keyboard:
I can't paste URLs links yet (dont have 8 posts) so go that link mentioned above and find comment # 8th, then download attached file "hkeyboard.apk" and:
1. plug in ur nook to pc
2. copy the hkeyboard.apk file somwhere on ur nook
3. unplug
4. install it normally (find and just run the file)
5. open a file manager that let u access root folder and let u see system files (i used "Root Browser")
6. go to /data/app (if it says the folder is empty u have to enable system files preview)
7. copy installed app (it should be somwhere on the bottom on the list)
8. go to system/app
9. paste the file
10. dont run the app yet! if you do uninstall it and go to point 1
11. reboot (turn off completly and power back on)
12. run the app and do what they ask u to do or (prefered way) go to Nook Color Tools (u should have it preinstalled when rooting) and change ur keyboard to hackers keyboard
13.done
14. if u want to go back go to old keyboard or any else Nook color Tools and change the keyboard
-------------------------------------------
Go keyboard works as well (to install do the same operations as mentioned above) but its to flashy and u dont see the text in preferences (u have to install it on ur phone and then go back and forth to see where u are).
BTW is there a way to see the text in Go Keyboard preference window? ive discovered that in some apps this happens to, is there an app for it? xD
PS Damn, my Nook just died after 3 days of intense usage
Where's my promised 2 months? ;O
2h hours left for it to eat up... gotta do something else for next 2h ;(

If it helps: that white unreadable text also appear in xda app when changing the theme to dark. The whole forum is then unreadable...

Try getting the android sdk and installing go keyboard on that. You can then see the text in there, and compare it to your nook.
Do that until Googie comes back with a new framework file.
Hackerskeyboard works like a charm. ;]
code[dot]google[dot]com/p/hackerskeyboard/issues/detail?id=57
The Hackers Keyboard is great, but does anybody have the same problem as mine.
The problem is that even the Hackers Keyboard includes additional languages, I'm unable to change between them using the sliding gesture over the space bar button. I think it has something to do with the multi-touch support.
I will send and email to the author two. I think It wold be nice if the keyboard has a dedicated button for language switch.
changing language by long pressing the space and then sliding sideways works for me, no problem at all but i changed some preferences before using the app and but i dont remember if i messed with language change options
Actually the mistake is all mine. I didn't realized that you have to add more than two languages. The language switch works, except it is not changing the language, but that is another problem
