Hi All
I've got an O2 XDA Mini S which I've set up using the corporate option, so I no longer have the O2 Software running.
Whenever I start a new conversation in MSN messenger, the soft keyboard pops up, even if the real keyboard is exposed.
This is really annoying as I have to minimise the soft keyboard on every new conversation.
Can anyone help?

I have tried setting the input options from keyboard to phonepad and it's still doing it.
just start typing (DON'T click it away!). for me after that it remembers that i don't want to use the onscreen keyboard.
OK, so I just rebooted the machine and it's not popping up now.
However, the MSN chat window is all squashed up at the top of the screen... As if there was a softkeyboard there.
I think I'm going to have to get used to the occasional reboot on this!

Clicking on the SIP button in the bottom right should disable the soft keyboard, and according to some, it should retain that setting. I don't have a Wiz so I can't confirm, but one way or the other, it might help you to install a dummy SIP. PHM Tools installs one.

yah this annoys me as well, when browsing in landscape and BOOM this keyboard that covers have the screen pops up! you can't even see what yoru typing...
anyway i remember reading a fix for this somewher, but it was before i got the device. anyone know where its at?
Hey, I changed mine from keyboard to the transcriber, it doesn't seem to popup now and it also give a full screen while on msn rather than only half screen where the keyboard should be.

It gives more of the screen available to MSN, but still not full screen for me.
If I click on the transcriber icon at the bottom of the screen, then click on it again to minimise it, I then get full screen.

so what exactly does that do? i don't want to install anything that can be solved by a reg edit. (dont have a mem card yet)
Fone - one of the cabs installs a dummy SIP called external keyboard or something. It's for people that use external keyboards, basically don't one the built in ones popping up all the time.
It's small, I'd install it if you have a need. If you really don't need the built in keyboards and want a registry only solution, you can disable the SIPs through the registry. Not recommended though.

Ahh, null keyboard is by beemer. He's a great coder, check out his today plugins for wondrous pleasures.
These null keyboard type things do pretty much the same thing, ie nothing. However, if you're really geeky, Brighthand forums has a large review of a number of them. Use whatever works though.

its ok, i'll go ahean and install it. i just thought somehow someone could make a couple regedits that would tell the device if in landscape dont show onscreen keyboard. but i guess its more complex than i thought.

Technically, software needs to check they keyboard status, and then suppress the SIP from popping up when activating text entry elements (stuff's in MSDN somewhere). Thing is - most people are either too lazy to do so, or aren't aware of any need to do so, or just don't know they -can- do so

SSContact (ScrollingStone project name) is a application similar iContact developed by larna.
Why a similar iContact app ? The reasons are three :

Only WM5 version has been tested by me, I don't have a WM2003 or WM6 device to test them but they should work. Zip files have inside a cab, it will set SSContact as default contact app in right softkey. If you don't want it install RemoveSoftKey.cab and softreset the device or just extract file exe or see faqs how to change registry to remove it

ok I gave it a spin. My Device is a Cingular 8525 (US) running WM6 (Black 3.01).
The first thoughts:
1. Formating of Contacts. the app shows lastname firstname instead of lastname, first name.
2. I am not seeing all my contacts or its not listing all the contacts in alphabetical order.
3. When I select a contact with my finger or the stylus, nothing happens.
4. It seems that the app is pulling Company info in some instances and contact name in others..very weird.
Suggestions:
It would be cool if you could add/import pictures from the contacts

I think you have a good basis here just continue to work at it..good luck
- application is compiled for WM5 not tested on WM6 so i can't be sure all works properly there.
- Order is guaranteed by List Control and API of Windows CE so it's not my procedure but I'll check... be sure u don't have some space before names.
- Contacts, SMS and Phone are not enabled (it's only a test application not a complete application) so they can only be scrolled but u can't select them
- Yes it display company names when company name is present.
About suggestions :
- Pictures are too much heavy and it should make very slow scroll procedure and I Think they should be too much small to be really usefull.
- I'm not planning to add a filtering by categories at the moment, next step is add a Sort by Firstname and Sort by Lastname

my notes:
1- i tried icontact before ,not working with me
2-SSCONTACT, when i tape the contact nothing happen
3- i see that the interface is good by showing the 2 icons of dialing&message beside the name but again nothing happen upon tapping any icon
4- it scrolls only with the nevagtion key of the ppc not by finger!!!
5-the keyboard is stuck and not closed upon tapping except closing X buuton of the program

I don't know... it's strange in your device not works iContact and also my app maybe u have some program have make some conflict with them... you should scroll with fingers... keyboard shouldn't stuck ...u can close it tap on OK button... icons and contact aren't enabled it's only a test application, it's the first time I have this report.

I think the most natural way to sort is outlook's "file as" since we already declare what we want to see as "file as"
I've already added sorting by first or last name at the moment tomorrow I'll post the new version, meanwhile if u found bugs on this report me

got me all thinking about developing for ppc myself - any chance that you post sources? how difficult ... how time consuming is it?
at the moment no. Some parts are more difficult than other but I'm new in ppc programming and first I've to learn to apply so it taking me much time.
It's great you opened up your own thread. I love to beta test new and developing apps. Even though my device is slower, I will still give comments on your app.
The app so far is running pretty smoothly. A bug I found is with the keyboard quick search feature. There is a person on my contact list named, let's say "Zack"...when I type Z it does not go to the name. This happens for a few other letters with the keyboard as well.
Will you implement phone numbers showing up for names under just Company?
Also, what are the letters on the left side of the screen suppose to do??
during Quick Search with Keyboard you don't see people in the bottom of list just because Keyboard cover them... but search work if u tap Ok you should see them selected , I have to think a solution for that. I see what your saying. But still, when im at the top of the list than type Z on the keyboard, the list still doesn't scroll down to focus on that contact.
The phone number for the company in my contacts is put in the "Company tel." spot. This app can't read the company tel?
The letters on the side of the screen are too small to have real functionality. They are too hard to tap.
Will this work on WM2003?
I have TyTN with WM6 so it's not working properly I hope you'll make it work on WM6 soon. I would like to see some feature I'm missing in both iContacts and your app could you make it neverending scrolling? I mean that when you go to the end of contacts (Z) and scroll down more it will take you to the beginning (A) and the same form beginning (A) to the end (Z)? I hope you'll understand what I mean

@freeyayo50, search doesn't work inside items but always from first char... the control in Windows Mobile can't search into substring... that's sad but i can't do nothing, so if your friend is called Zack and you don't remenber is Lastname i suggest to change order from Last First to First Last and perform search with new order, i've attached a new version.

Where is the file for the " Touch Settings " ? You should start by attaching the settings file since this will be the main thread for Touch Settings

Please don't re-post this information, as I have now built a new version of the program that should work on the Sprint Touch without any special instructions required. It's been tested by Sprint users and seems to be working well so far.

Personally, I wanted the photo to launch the HTC Camera Album.lnk the way you can scroll with your finger & zoom, etc.
So, I created the Photos button in MediaHub to be:

when i try and install the settings app i get a error messsage about
"Installation was unsuccessful. The program or settings cannot be installed because it does not have sufficient system permissions"

If you look at the post at the top of this page by Carlos, you'll see he says, "For installation instructions please see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=324556."
He also gives these suggestions:
- If you're installing to Storage Card, try installing to the Device instead.
- If you still get the error, try resetting your device and installing again - this honestly worked for me!
- Check there is enough free storage space on your device.
- Try a manual installation (zip file coming to first post shortly)
There are many posts about this in other threads, so you should be able to find the info you need.

I have spent a good deal of time getting my Sprint Touch to display my local weather by using N2A's "patched" HtcHome.dll which points at a server that does support my local weather (unlike the Htc's accuweather server). Now I would like to use 'Touch Settings' to easily customize what apps get launched from my 3x2 app launcher and the media hub buttons, but I'm not sure if I dare do this yet since I haven't seen anyone explain how 'Touch Settings' accomplishes displaying local weather.
Can anyone tell me how it does this? My concern is that it may conflict with the patched home plugin I already have working.

Touch Settings updates the registry keys at \HKLM\Software\HTC\HomePlug\Weather\Settings
I don't think this should change your server settings etc, and it certainly won't change which .dll file your weather is pulled from.
Why not do a registry backup of that key, try out Touch Settings and if there are any problems, just restore your registry? I think you'll be OK with it.

One thing I noticed would be interested in finding out if other Sprint Touch users are seeing: after updating my "On Demand" app launcher's button to open a different app in the mediahub, the "Demand" in the text "On Demand" is now half cut-off. I assume this text (which I would like to change anyway) is stored in the registry somewhere and is not editable via Touch Settings yet. I can spend some time researching which settings to manually change in the registry, but if you are going to add this feature soon to the app, then I won't spend the time.

Glad it's working for you! If you run Touch Settings, you should be able to click in the grey box where it says "On Demand" and change the text to anything you like... ...let me know if it doesn't work for any reason.

Thanks Carlos...I can't believe I didn't think to at least try tapping in there! (Oh me of little faith...)
Next minor issue:
I made my bottom mediahub button say "Voice Recorder", and the word "Recorder" wrapped to a second line which is half-way cut off. I see that text wraps on the middle button as well, and although it doesn't get cut off it does look off-center vertically. I don't know if there is any way to adjust the text vertically with the magic that you do, so for now I'll try to come up with one word labels for the buttons to avoid the issue.
I also am curous what parameter to use to get the HtcAlbum.exe to launch the Camera Album to display just videos, like the 2nd-row 3rd button in does in the 9 button app launcher that comes on the 3rd tab of the HTC Home plugin. Does anybody know what I need to supply? I believe there is a mode: option, but when trying "mode:video" it still only comes up displaying pictures, and it does so in portrait view, not in landscape view like it does from the app launcher (which I prefer). My apologies if this has been discussed already...thanks!

Carlos - this is kind of a QA issue with the interface. Can I make the suggestion that you change the color of that box from gray to something like yellow? The first few times I opened the app I thought it was the typical "grayed out" box -- meaning I couldn't edit it. Whereas when I see a yellow box it grabs my attention and suggests I should be doing something with it...

I installed the first and tried to uninstall, but it wouldn't remove. Installing the second over it caused my contacts to not work at all anymore (pressing the softkey brings up the app for a split second before it closes.)
I'll have to hard reset, but I don't want to do that 4 times over. Does anyone know the difference between them?

A Google search tells me that that's just an old version of PocketCM.
It seems that the behavior in the video is a combination of Random Access and TouchFlo. FTouchFlo doesn't quite match up since it scrolls in increments instead of smoothly.

Not really, its moreso the contact manager from Pocket CM, like in the video but it doesnt have the SMS and everything, trust me, its exactly the same thing thats in the video, I have it on my phone right now and its the same exact program in that video
Thanks for the link. I just got my phone last week and this is a pretty sweet contact manager. Only issue is that it doesnt show up with an icon on my xv6800.....any way to fix that?
Also - what about all the other flashy stuff in that video? Where do I go about customizing my phone to do all that? Does it take any special ROM first, or are they all plugins that I can install?

Hi. Pull up your contact list, then tap the menu then option menu. There you can ckeck or uncheck boxes. If you check the show by alphabetical index, the scrooll bar will be there when you reenter the contact list. Uncheck that option and when you enter the contact list again you will have an alphabetical letters on the the side bar instead. Hope this will help. Play aroundwith it, to see which one works for you. Also you can use the filters to change how you want your contacts to appear.

Think random access does the job of putting the alphabet bar next to the contacts!!
Might I suggest finger friendly contacts?
It rules.
I could easily give some money if someone could make a program for making the bottom menu bar to hide and pressing like the big round bottom on phone would make it visible again. It would give alot more screen space for alot of programs, like writing sms etc.
It would be really great, I bet alot of people would like it to and also pay for it!

Great
It would be really good removing it, having more screen space like opera when browsing it goes to fullscreen and pressing on the screen will make the bar's and menues apear again. Something like that would be great for the rest of the phone!

you can do that with vjtoggletoday (www.vijay555.com) and a tool for setting registry keys (the guy who has written batterystatus has also written such a tool).
create a lnk file with the desired settings and map it to a key. that should do it. but you only have one key available to map (long end key)

hi guys, I wanted to just remove the bottom bar like u guys and found this software from some site. Dont know where actually.. But it works on my Diamond.
It just removes the bottom bar.

Nothing happend with that cab. I did a soft reset but didnt help!

doesn't work with my touchflo
also tried a softreset
tried to install it with touchflo disabled
and when i enabled it ..... nothing
(also tried the softreset afterwards)
any sugestions ?

(maybe's there's is a way to just remove the black bar (as was done with the curtain remover) and leave the buttons intact ?
(that would be the next best thing for me)
I'd rather hide the menues completly. It would be really nice having a full screen phone. Now it looks more like a pda

vjtoggletoday works also on wm6. make sure it is the alpha2 version.
you can use the attached zip file. put the autorun lnk file into your windows startup folder and configure this utility before soft-reset.
advantage of vjtoggletoday is, you can define how much of the bars' height should disappear.
another app is dcinobar which hides the bottom bar only

I dont know what that apps did to my diamond. Im not setting that on autorun! And the config file how are you suppose to config it? When neither of them starts?
by the way: both apps (i have attached dcinobar to my post above) only hide the bars on the today screen only. the bars do not disappear if you run an app.
if this would help you to some extend, i'll give you a step-by-step instruction for vjtoggle.
dcinobar is easier. just run the tool.

dcinobar works definitely on diamond. i am currently using it myself.
as said. both programs only hide the bar on today screen.
dcinobar: just copy the exe file to \windows\startup\. softreset. that's it.
vjtoggle:
copy the vjtoggletodayiialpha.exe to \Program Files\vijay555\
(if you keep the directoryname, you do not need to adjust the lnk files)
copy the vjtoggletodayAutorun.lnk to \Windows\StartUp\
copy the VJ Toggle Config.lnk to \Windows\StartMenu\Programs\
now run the config tool and set the values to 0. the config tool only sets the registry keys which are being used by the file in the startup folder.
alternatively you could do the settings yourself:

in this case the top and the bottom bar will have the size of 1px (just in case you still want to access them )
soft-reset.
if you do a soft-reset i would recommend to switch the phone off (long press on the button on the very top of your diamond).
if this is not working, you are definitely doing s.th. wrong as it works on my diamond.

I did that, step by step. When i rebooted the htc, i didnt get a top menu at all and not just in today in all windows. And the bottom menu was still there.
And what happends if this will work. Will i get 2 black bars instead of 2 menues or will the screen auto adjust?

please check the registry settings, if the key softkeysize = 0
also try to set trayvisible = 0

the space available for today screen will increase. the today screen is not stretched by the size you gained, you 'll have more space available.
did you try dcinobar?
