Branded x10 - XPERIA X10 General

Hey, i got myself an x10 the other day, but turns out it is branded to 3(dk) and from what i can see people who got it from another provider (telmore dk) already have a newer software version. Is there any way to flash a stock, unbranded rom on the x10.

Not at the moment. I've got it from 3DK too and the only branding is the 3MobileTV app but that's enough for 3 to have to approve every update
Still waiting on root and custom roms. When these two things become reality then we can throw a non-branded rom
Unless we can get a hold of the update file maybe and then force it down the throat of the phone through the recovery option..

Yeah that last option was the one i was hoping for.

Will pay if you can update my g1!!!

Ok guys as title suggests I am litterally done with this phone now and am ready to throw it out of a window! The only thing stopping me is because it is so new and the fact that I absolutely love it apart from not being able to get official 1.5 update on to it.
I have tried everything!
All I want is the 1.5 (not modded/rooted) firmware with widgets etc. I have tried downgrading but that doesn't work, I have tried upgrading but that doesn't work and over the air hasn't come over the past 3 days it has been turned on (although I suspect this is due to being on Orange although I did buy a T-Mobile sim and it didn't update in a day with that inside either).
If you can help I WILL PAY!!!

Seriously man.. I have to be honest. If you can read directions and follow them, there should be nothing that you cant do on the g1 yourslef. There are numerous threads that give you Dummie proof step by step instructions.
So is your phone stock firmware?? Because if that is the case then you should recieve an OTA update for cupcake.
What exactly is the problem you're running into? The whole process may seem overwhelming at first, but it's really cut and dry. it is as simple as replaceing files on the sd card, updating a couple times and running some verbatim commands. You shouldnt be having that many problems.

Seriously buddy I have been building PC's since I was 13 and have been modding/flashing and programming my HTC Hermes for the past 2 years and yet this is impossible! It would appear I was unlucky enough to get the one firmware/build that is almost impossible to flash (look it up if you don't believe me, google for "123099" and choose the xda link).
Yes it is the stock rom that came with the phone but I haven't had an update in 3 days??? Is this because I am using an Orange sim card? I have purchased a T-Mobile sim should I put this in and leave it for x amount of days hoping?

You either get it OTA, or you root it. Unless you can find the official update.zip.
Once you root it, flash a European JF build, which is as close to the stock build as you're going to get.

I want it to be legit so no option to root (yet). How long am I supposed to wait for OTA updates? I thought 3 days would be sufficient?

I apologize if you feel that i questioned your ability. It is just very often people are quick to "ask how to do this/that" I did a small search on the build number and it does appear there are people discussing the issue.
I was just trying to provide words of encouragment if it was something that just "seemed" overwhelming.. but it seems you have a background.. Best of luck man
You won't get the ota update unless you're on the original tmobile sim the phone was shipped with.. otherwise how would tmobile know to push it to you? Orange certainly aren't going to do it. This has precisely bugger all to do with your build number and everything to do with using a different sim. If you want to pay me for this information, ill happily receive it.

There's basically no disadvantage to rooting, but try to get hold of the proper SIM to OTA then, or find someone who has that update.zip...

I am sorry, but this is completely wrong. You don't need the original sim. You can even receive updates via wlan or on other networks. Anyway , I would suggest to root. It's nothing criminal.
I sent you a pm on how to do it, read the one that says "this explains better on how to install the 1.5 update" or something like that
Hope it helps!

Yea I dont quite know what I was on about there.. I was tired and irritable when I posted that and I can't remember what I meant.. There may have been some basis of a point in there about using payg sims and the always-on internet on the g1.. I was assuming it wouldnt work properly.
In the cold light of day, I don't know what I was ranting about. Let's put it down to me being an idiot.
On a more constructive note.. A goldcard should be able to downgrade any g1:

there is no changelog from htc's site. it's just a small "updated" t-mo uk ROM, still based on the very first 1.43 ROMs. i wont call it an update at all. FYI, this so called update has been made available in xda for a long time now. i've downloaded it and compared the Hash, and they are 100% identical.
omg!
if this is the update i've waited 3 months for then heads are gonna roll!
is it actually the exact same rom as before?
what the hell was the point in it?

It's not even an update. Its the exact same version number that I have on my original ROM T-Mobile HD2 - ROM Version:1.43.110.2.
And yes, I still have my original ROM. It works okay for what I do, and want to stick with official ROMs if possible. Maybe in the future if T-Mobile don't give a real update, or I hit serious issues, but for now I'd like to keep my warranty intact. I'm aware I can re-flash it easily back to the original ROM (even more so now that ROM is officially available to download) - however my concern is over times when I get a fault which means I cannot re-flash it.
i'm on the original t-mobile rom and find it suitable. the only real change ive made is to revert back to the windows messaging set up, not htc messages.
how many people on the original rom have had problems with HTC messaging?
The disclaimer says:
* This is a generic software update. Any additional software or settings provided by your mobile operator or company will be lost. If you require this customization, please contact your supplier first before upgrading.
This may 'unlock' t-mobile from their current position and allow them the HTC rom upgrade path.
Has anyone tried this?

Interesting point, however I suspect it's a standard disclaimer they put onto their ROM downloads. Would be interesting though for someone to confirm?
Well, someone try and download it using their S/N and try flashing. Worst that happens is it says 'Incorrect Vendor ID'

they haven't actually announced the availability of this yet (even though they must be able to see their own customers fuming away...)

I don't even want to think what the reaction on there is going to be once they actually announce it.
Ah, no, they'll mark it as solved, and no-one will be able to post! Good stuff, eh?
I tried it just incase it was generic but that was a a massive waste of time, as far as I can see this rom is identical to the factory version.

I am very optimist..but if I will not get the update this year, in january I will get read of legend and will buy a much "smarter" phone, like galaxy s or nexus one, altough I will miss the Htc Sense UI.

There is no problem with flash on MSM7227, as long as flash is compiled for it. The Legend has a faster GPU than the desire.
I think it will support Flash, Flash Lite 4 that is. Flash Lite does play Youtube, as shown on Nokia N8. I do think Flash Lite 4 on 2.1 is a bit of a hit or miss experience. Noticed some Flash based content works perfectly with N8 as opposed to Legend.
I dont think we would see them next week, most probably next month, before Christmas, hopefully.

Ofcourse not. They have the same gpu.
It's up to adobe to make flash 10.1 available on older cpus. And like it was mentioned before we will get flash (we had it in 2.1 from the beginning) but it's only flash lite 4.
And we have Froyo !!!
So... One week or so, from when I started this thread and we got Froyo !!! Sort of... Only Vodafone branded in UK FR and DE for now... but still, it's a very good news. Flashing Froyo Vodafone Uk rom as I type... I's a little disappointing as HTC stated unbranded phones will get Froyo first, but even branded it's very good news. My carrier is Vodafone RO and the branding doesn't bother me much, but there are other people out there who don't use/like Vodafone/VFbranding and for them it's not so good news.
This is the update i'm flashing right now h**p://fotadl.htc.com/OTA_Legend_Froyo_S_Vodafone_UK_3.14.161.1-2.05.161.1_R_release_135177_156984u2k321537x1cpy3d .zip
Hope to see soon an unbranded update ! (maybe next week or even a few more days from now)
Despite the fact that the "trully " unbranded phones didn't get the update first and will get the update in a weeks I consider this to be a good situation. Any new bugs the update contains will be noticed during this time.
The only problem is when the update will come to those with the "really" branded phones .
HTC has now started to release the Froyo upgrade for the Legend in Europe. Oddly enough, it seems that branded versions of the device actually is getting the good stuff first, contrary to what HTC stated in its announcement. Vodafone users are said to be first in line.
The update is released over-the-air and has a size of 82.88MB, and will bring the full Android 2.2 Sense experience that HTC Desire users enjoy. Has any lucky Legend owners out there gotten the update yet?

Bummer.. #!?*
Ok so for the past 2 hours i'm trying to flash froyo update... but my current rom (rodriguezstyle) doesn't want to be erased from my phone (wtf lol). OK I've tried Legend_HTC_WWE_2.03.405.3 via exe but I get "unable to flash rom"... how can I get back to Stock Rom and then update ??
Got ClockWork mod? Use MoDaCo's rom, see the Development section or MoDaCo website.
If you want the official OTA, Goldcard, use the downgrade crackin' script, then flash 1.32 Vodafone UK from Shipped Roms, then do the 2 OTA's available. If your phones breaks your fault not mine
Got flash back to stock. OTA in a few minutes after my phone finishes install of rom.zip.Don't really need goldcard... flashing rom.zip works via Clockworkmod Recovery.
Thanks anyway, will post status after finished froyo update.
L.E. it looks like I indeed need goldcard, but my card has ext3 partition for app2sd to work and don't have card reader with SD adapter to format back to fat... how can I format card 8GB to normal FAT with the phone...?
i can guess new sense will be on the table for thouse with unbranded possibly otherwise htc has screwed their unbranded customer big time
I'm quite impressed
Installed Froyo while out with some bud's, a short car-juorney smokin' and first impression is not so bad. It run's verry smoothly, only with stock apps & widgets. Short touchscreen response, without any delay or lags. I like the flashlight, altough it would have been nice to have strobo like on Cyanogen Mod. FM Radio widget comes in 2 sizes; LiveWallpapers (you cannot change a different wallpaper for lockscreen because if you have LWP on desktop it appears on lockscreen also) and many more enhancement's, wifi hotspot, navigation, places and app sharing. Will install my most 150---ish used apps and will post status.
works all good for me as said screen switching is aloott smoother(which i didnt think was possible - was already quick). live wallpapers are nice. and the graphic going into/out of apps looks nice. time will tell if there are any bugs
is the "last sms" problem fixed when viewing text messages?

Mrjonnyrock,
Im on Vodafone UK and my phone arrived anbranded. Im currently on stock 1.72.405.3. I think the bloatware (Facebook, twitter etc) is actually HTC standard bloatware rather than Vodafone. I originally rooted using the one click method and removed all such software. You will need to follow the down grade threads to return to 1.32.405.6 to use such a method though but it isnt that easy.
Heed the warnings though as removing such software blocks HTC's OTA updates (I learnt that the hard way).
A programme like LauncherPro will enable you to hide unwanted apps from your app drawer. I know thats not permanent and they still exist in some alternative reality but if you are only going to root to remove those apps rather than run a custom rom it may be simpler and easier in the long run.
Just my opinion though.

i thought as much My original HTC Desire had to go back to HTC for repairs and this could take longer than a week. the phone did not really have much crap on it. i guess this because there is not much memory on the phone to install crap. I did not think that the Desire HD would come loaded with rubbish so did not even think about that.
Can i deal directly with HTC if there are any hardware issues with the phone? or would it have to go back via vodafone?
Vodafone have bad habits of doing this to people so this is hardly surprising. I got my DHD a couple weeks after release and theres no bloatware on it, but i had a feeling they were going to, so I got it early. But Google in their infinite wisdom said that 2.3/2.4 android will make things easier for mobile companies to brand the phones.
i do understand the guy....

well i have just downloaded this one:
http://www.shipped-roms.com/shipped....140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155891_signed.exe
Anyone know what loading this would do to my uk vodafone Desire HD?
well i had an orange hd phone before...
i had to run a root kit before being able to copy any other roms...
so you may have to check that before...
i still need some time before i flash it or maybe wait for gingerbread to come out... so that i do that only once
why don't u unload uninstall any vodafone stuff?
I had my phone from Virgin Mobile. Luckily not too much bloatware on it.
I eneded up rooting it simply as I like using stock Android rather than HTC Sense, which is always a good reason to root.
So now I'm runnign CyanogenMod7 , which is Android 2.3, runnign overclocked to 1.5Ghz.
Fast like you would not believe !
And to be fair, once rooted you';ll probably get updates here faster than waiting for Vodafone to update it OTA !!

the uninstall option is greyed out. Stuff like Tower Bloxx NY Trail, Texas Hold'em, uno trial etc can not be removed. Also this vodafone 360 stuff is rubbish. Great i am with vodafone, but i will never use this stuff.
O and what if i was a recovering gambling addict vodafone? Or if gambling was something I did not want on my phone for religious reasons. This is the UK, looks like someone did not check with legal before sending out devices.

So glad I got my DesireHD on launch as it's unbranded. My g/f's Galaxy was loaded with Orange branded ****, and I mean ****, games where you click and have to buy, again with no option of uninstall.
mrjonnyrock said:
thx, but i can not access any of those links.
There are a bunch of stupid demo games and other crap installed including vodafone 360, rubbish that i want to get off.
Why put this crap on a device? Its like the laptop OEMs, installing all the crap under the sun to make some extra cash. I am not offered my device for less money, but they get my money and money form advertisers.
WHEN THE BLOODY HELL WILL THESE PEOPLE LEARN. WE DON'T WANT YOUR CRAP SOFTWARE INSTALLED ON DEVICES THAT WE PAY A LOT OF MONEY FOR. why must i have stuff installed on a device that i do not want with no way of getting it off the device. I pay for the device i should have the right to choose what i want on it and not be forced accept having the stuff forced on me.
i have had the phone for a day now and if i don't find a way of getting this crap off the phone without voiding my warranty, it will go back to vodafone.

Did you actually pay Vodafone for the phone, or was it free/discounted on contract?
If you paid full price for it... why not buy it unbranded e.g. from Carphone Warehouse?

well its a new contract so its not free. You get nothing for free.
By the time the contract it up i would have paid for it.
Discounted, don't make me laugh. Vodafone would not offer any device/service if they did not make money. They have a % of profit that they need to make on every contract.
Edit:
also, i am not really that unhappy with the vodafone branding or the 360 software. i will just not use it. Its a pain but i can live with that. The thing that is just not on is the installing of demo or trial software that can not be removed.

Thats the one I used to get rid of my 3UK bloatware. Its perfect.. fastboot really is fastboot now! No more splash/loading screens.. no more unwanted games and apps.
Don’t work ( RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.32.405.6_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26 .03.02.26_M_release_155891_signed.exe) on mine (vodafone UK). it may be that mine is now running Andriod 2.2.1 but when i try and install it i get the error customer ID.
Am seriously thinking that it needs to be taken back to Vodafone.
The thing that is worrying me is that in say 12 months time Vodafone might not bother to update the device even if google/htc have an update for the phone.

Update Available for Rogers!

Hello, I am currently on build number 2.1.1.A.0.6. I connected my phone to pc companion today and it notified me of a update! Anyone wanna take the plunge and let me know
can't you just backup you current settings on xrecovery and try the update yourself and report here?
it might be the 2.1.1.B update that'll make you go to baseband 6X.
Definitely not the GB update.
fake, i think.
just one day passed after ptcrb check. cant be the new fw available.
besides, se said 2.3 wont bi available for branded prones, generic only.
it may happen after you use the custom kernel
once i freshly flashed the .b.1 firmware
and i used Z`s kernel
the next day my phone come with a message that there`s a software update for me and can only be processed by pcc or us
i was really happy cause i think its the GB
but when i connect my phone with my pc
it says the new firm ware 2.1.b.0.1 can be used ...
its really funny
Phone is bootlooping, I will look for gingerbread on SEUS

No thats some #%@#$.... They never said it won't be available for branded phones, it will maybe not be available... In the Netherlands all branded phones will get the update Hi, Vodafone, KPN, MTV Mobile etc... all big providers... There is a good chance that some branded phones in other countries will also get the update And yes, SE NL confirmed it...

Sure it can be a new firmware.
It might be the 2.1.1.A.0.53 firmware.
And all major Swedish carriers (3, Telenor, Telia) also confirmed Gingerbread update for their branded X10's.
So the old statement that Sony Ericsson said about, only generic kits would get the update has been debunked by many carriers around the globe.
have any rogers customers updated to this yet.
Just curious as to what the baseband is
rogers from what ive spoken to them about they wont have any update from 2.1 > 2.3. and it seems they have no plans in doing so. unless they change their minds which they'll have to work too hard to put all their crap in on an "outdated" device to them, which they wont.
I am on Rogers and have an umodded phone running 2.1.1.A.0.6. It says I am running the latest software in both SEUS and the PC Compansion software so I don't seem to be getting this new update you speak of.
ya, with rogers as well... if u speak to one of their service reps or tech support any information they give you regarding an update to Gingerbread I would take as hear-say since they just dont know... you'd need to speak to someone working quite a bit higher up to get a real answer.
I just debranded my x10 yesterday to a generic, running the latest updates, waiting for Gingerbread to come out now so I can update to that.

I'm a Rogers client, just plugged my phone in to check this and there's no update available for my x10.
At the Rogers SE Play launch party in Toronto I was told that GB would be available to us by now, although I wasn't supposed to say anything about it outside of that party.

There will be no problems having a generic device on Rogers.
I would recommend flashing the Global Generic for X10a
