worn out edges - Nexus One General

I've noticed that the corners of my n1 are black and appear to be worn out as if the case it's in or possibly pants pocket has rubbed against it too much and worn out the soft part of the bottom corners.
Has this happened to anyone else or do I need new pants?

I pretty much always carry my phone in the included neoprene sleeve and haven't had such an issue. Can you post pics?

What case are you using?

It's not wearing out, the pouch marks the phone. They do come off though.

What on earth does your skin install have to do with the OP's question?

OP is complaining about black and worn out corners.
The skin will protect the corners.
How was that not obvious?

I also have the same problem, i got black marks on the lower corners.
Can you suggest a way to clean it?
Thanks

I've tried just smudging/rubbing it but it seems pretty stubborn and I don't want to damage it further if it is actually wearing out.
I'll try to get a pic, they don't turn out well because of the colours (grey on grey)

Not exactly, but someone on the Google Android Help forum stuck an invisible shield type thing on his, and the spots transferred to that when it was removed.

i've put a little rubbing alcohol on a handkerchief. that works ok...

Solution to Peeling Black Trinity

Ok,
The solution is simply to apply a thin layer of nail polish on the problematic areas.
This is unseen and solves the problem.
This works fine!
Nadavi.
are u suggesting a grey nail varnish ? or a clear one before the paint starts peeling?
Yes
yes, Before it starts peeling.
Nadavi
may be it will stop peeling of painting.. I am not saying it will not, but will definitely invalidate device warranty.
i don't see how it can damage the warranty.
NAdavi
don't think the invalidated warranty will be a major issue in the UK, since it appears that it's not worth the paper it is written on
applying any permanet layer of chemical substance can lead to refusal to repair device under manufacturer's waranty.
Your milage may vary...
you can't even see it...it's a one millimeter transparent nail polish...its external and if you really want to you can peel it with your nail (its not easy but it can be done).
this is not an irreversible process.

How about peel it all off so it's nice and shiney?
Any suggestions on how to do this safely? Mine is peeling a little bit...but I think it's getting worse day by day.
Sugar cube?
Well...i'm a total n00b at this. I love the P3600 but noticed the peeling and joined on the forum to get some ideas. Has anyone done this already with photos to see what it looks like? The thought of sending it in for a few weeks seems totally crazy. Plus, I bought it from some small phone store that doesn't seem totally up on repairs and the like. Prefer to take care of it myself.
you can use sugar cube to scratch the painting off. it will not damage the underlying layer of paint. Old trick, but works well.
anyone have any pictures of after the sugar cube trick or with the nail polish on?

Feeling side of HD2 on display edges

I own my HD2 for 3 days now.
I have one simple question and I hope that more users experience this.
If I slide my finger to the right of the screen, to the end, I feel the side of the HD2. If I slide my finger to the left, the display goes over in the rest of the HD2.
At the bottom of the screen, it's the other way around. There I can feel a little edge on the left side.
Other users experience this?
did you drop it? by the looks of the pictures I've seen where they take apart a HD2, the screen is held in place by the rubber sides..
it's normal...99% of the hd2 was not been totally flushed with sides which is a rubber..
yes i have it too.
Well, in that case, mines' exceptionally well built. It's totally flushed with the glass. Sorry to put that out. I just love mines!

*my english is not that good haha*
So it's normal that you feel the rubber on one side ? Whilst de other side is straight with the glass itself?

Same here. Maybe 1/2 to 1/4 of a mm below the rubber, but perfectly straight all the way round.

No, no tilted screen, its exactly the same all the way around, totally flush with the rubber.
Mine has this flaw, but it this so minor that I had never noticed it. I suggest get over it, it's not a big deal.

Yeah it's pretty nice. It's better then looking at that chipped disaster.
Mine chipped back in January. I had the phone for only 2 months. I got Sprint to replace my phone after scraping the chipped paint off and I didn't like it. My wife's phone did the same thing after 1 month. But, I will admit, it looks better with the paint scraped than chipped.

Yep, how did you manage to scrap your paint off?
It took a while, but I used my nails and a coin. I would pick at it throughout the day. I was careful not to scratch the face of the phone.

I've got a bunch of dust and chipping buttons but I haven't taken mine in because I'm rooted and running 2.0d with a custom theme (obviously NOT stock ). I'm just wondering if yours is and whether it was an issue or not.

Got Scratchs on few corners of the phone on Chrome plating

Hi all,
is there a cheap and best way to replace the "chrome plating" on Galaxy S2, it fell off and has got a few scratches on the top right corner of the phone .
kindly advice.
thanks in advance.
Best,
Sid
nope, as the screen is glued onto that part of the faceplate. you would need to rip the screen off and risk damaging it just to replace that cover.
When you say 'it fell off' do you mean the plastic chrome-effect surround or the phone fell off something scratching it?
Anyway, I have a few tiny marks on my 'chrome' surround, partly thanks to using a CaseMate 'Barely There' cover which partly exposes the corners and bottom and top of the phone. However, it really doesn't bother me that much and it's a small price to pay to keep this phone's footprint as it's meant to be as opposed to a gel-case turning it into my old HD2.

the phone fell off on the road, causing the scratch.
thanks for the info though
I guess the best option right now , as I understand is to wait for S3, which I'd have done irrespective of the present situation

You could try a tiny drop of eucalyptus oil(or some other solvent), it will make the plastic solvent again but you need to be very careful

Gap between top edge of glass and metal frame.

Hi all!
Been noticing that there is a gap at the top of the phone between the glass and the metal frame. I noticed it when I make a call and my hair gets always stuck in the gap and gets pulled out
Just wondering if anybody else has this issue and will it not be waterproof at all? And should I take the phone back?
Thanks!
i'd take it back without question and don't leave the store (if you do it instore) until you have a phone with no gap
Mine is on the bottom.

On that, mine doesn't have this issue. Thank God. My ocd would never alow it!=)

correct, I got the 2 mixed up. I have no problem with either issues also but I do read a lot of light leak on all different forums.
I got no gap but feel that top frame is not straight. Feels bit curved from side left to side right. Almost non distinguishable but people with ocd can obviously spot it. I need s7 edge technical drawings to confirm it. If it's design or phone fault.
Can you post a picture? Mine has no visible gap, but I do know that the hair thing has happened to me on other phones. Also, the glass to metal frame will never be perfectly flush, but it shouldn't be noticeable.

Here some pics. The top and the right side is all gap! In the left top corner you can see my hairs sticking out... and you can see the paper pieces go pretty deep and its thick paper.
The bottom and left side is ok, no gaps.
What you guys think?

Well the shop where I bought it has a really good service record (coolblue.nl. In the shop they agreed this was not OK, I opened a couple of phones in shop and they all had different sizes of gaps. So i'm not sure that the new batch doesn't have it, maybe it is OK according Samsungs margin of error.
Yeah I myself have had 5 handsets opened in CPW and all had same issues in various places. I have returned 2 myself even my one now has same issue but not as bad. I'm just living with it now because I fed up at returning handsets and dealing with crap customer service. This is how I noticed the light coming through sides in other thread.
Can't imagine the phone still being water resistant with those gaps. Came across this video

I have same problem too. #Indonesia
I wish if you have a normal version didn't same with mine; help to make video upside LED notificaion when LED notification is on.
Thanks
I can't even get a single piece of paper in mine, so there's definitely an issue with yours, if you can.

Okay Thanks for your information.
Please help me to make a video to show bezel gap problem, and upload it to youtube. Samsung Indonesia really make me mad when showing the problem they said that's normal. Yeah i know samsung will run away from problem. So my job is find other guys using GOLD (my version) or any other colour that doesn't have the gap issue. (I'm waiting until 10 post to posting youtube link )
Thanks

I'm afraid it's defect. Mine too; but sadly customer services saying this normal and samsung fans boy said that too. I'm seeking video a normal version of galaxy s7 edge showing normal (no gap between metal frame & glass). Mostly gold version is defected. I'm waiting for samsung next response after explain how come light pass between bezel & glass. (Stupid samsung they should put BLACK glue between frame & glass)
Thanks

Post the youtube code, the part after the '=' in the URL and I'll edit the video into your post.
Guys I don't think that's actually a light bleed. It's more like a reflection of the light from the glass to the metal frame. My glass has zero gaps at one of the sides and very small ones at the other side - well it has equal amount of light reflection from both sides.
