Gap between top edge of glass and metal frame. - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hi all!
Been noticing that there is a gap at the top of the phone between the glass and the metal frame. I noticed it when I make a call and my hair gets always stuck in the gap and gets pulled out
Just wondering if anybody else has this issue and will it not be waterproof at all? And should I take the phone back?
Thanks!

i'd take it back without question and don't leave the store (if you do it instore) until you have a phone with no gap

Mine is on the bottom.

?? The article you linked is about light leaking. This is about the physical Gap between the frame and glass.
On that, mine doesn't have this issue. Thank God. My ocd would never alow it!=)

correct, I got the 2 mixed up. I have no problem with either issues also but I do read a lot of light leak on all different forums.

I got no gap but feel that top frame is not straight. Feels bit curved from side left to side right. Almost non distinguishable but people with ocd can obviously spot it. I need s7 edge technical drawings to confirm it. If it's design or phone fault.

Can you post a picture? Mine has no visible gap, but I do know that the hair thing has happened to me on other phones. Also, the glass to metal frame will never be perfectly flush, but it shouldn't be noticeable.

Here some pics. The top and the right side is all gap! In the left top corner you can see my hairs sticking out... and you can see the paper pieces go pretty deep and its thick paper.
The bottom and left side is ok, no gaps.
What you guys think?

Have the same issue, but only on the sides. Had it with 3 phones now, and will get a final replacement when a new batch is out.

So this is a true defect? and they will have to replace it? When do you think a new batch is out?
Soon I'm gonna have a bold spot close to my ear, cuz it's pulling my hair out

Well the shop where I bought it has a really good service record (coolblue.nl. In the shop they agreed this was not OK, I opened a couple of phones in shop and they all had different sizes of gaps. So i'm not sure that the new batch doesn't have it, maybe it is OK according Samsungs margin of error.

Yeah I myself have had 5 handsets opened in CPW and all had same issues in various places. I have returned 2 myself even my one now has same issue but not as bad. I'm just living with it now because I fed up at returning handsets and dealing with crap customer service. This is how I noticed the light coming through sides in other thread.

Can't imagine the phone still being water resistant with those gaps. Came across this video
https://youtu.be/7Be2bssmAtE

I have same problem too. #Indonesia
I wish if you have a normal version didn't same with mine; help to make video upside LED notificaion when LED notification is on.
Thanks

I can't even get a single piece of paper in mine, so there's definitely an issue with yours, if you can.

Okay Thanks for your information.
Please help me to make a video to show bezel gap problem, and upload it to youtube. Samsung Indonesia really make me mad when showing the problem they said that's normal. Yeah i know samsung will run away from problem. So my job is find other guys using GOLD (my version) or any other colour that doesn't have the gap issue. (I'm waiting until 10 post to posting youtube link )
Thanks

I'm seeking video a normal version of galaxy s7 edge showing normal (no gap between metal frame & glass). Mostly gold version is defected. I'm waiting for samsung next response after explain how come light pass between bezel & glass. (Stupid samsung they should put BLACK glue between frame & glass)
Thanks

Post the youtube code, the part after the '=' in the URL and I'll edit the video into your post.

Guys I don't think that's actually a light bleed. It's more like a reflection of the light from the glass to the metal frame. My glass has zero gaps at one of the sides and very small ones at the other side - well it has equal amount of light reflection from both sides.

it seems the bezel has a poor paint layer

well that is what I was afraid of when I bought the note, the paint job of the bezel disappointed me, especially at the headphone plug, it seems that the paint job is really poor, i ended noticing that the paint started to flicker, what a disappointment i hope that it will not get bigger.
I almost knew from the start that it would flake easily especially at weak points like plug in areas, i wish to know how to fix it, but i saw some video and taking it appart is hell, maybe i should consider giving it a brushed look bezel

I've had my Note for around 3 months.
2 weeks back I was sick, having fever, throat & ear infection.
I took a visit to the hospital and unfortunately dropped the phone whilst sitting down.
I was so sick & weak the phone slipped whilst in my hand.
Thankfully the damage was minimal. The only minor mark was on the upper left hand corner of the bezel, a slight discolouration.
I too would like to change my bezel.
Would you be kind enough to post a link to a video which shows how to dismantle the bezel & then put back?
Thanks.

Yes.dont use hard case.if u have to put case on it use them rubber cases.
are you sure that its easy to replace the bezel, are there no wires or stuff to take apart when changing the bezel. So its only removing the 9 screws.

My first Note went for a swim with me in salt water so naturally I tried a few things to get it working again, including removing as many components as possible. The bezel is part of the back cover that the battery sits snug against on all edges, and if you use both thumbnails to separate the screen from this bezel/backplate then it should come off after a bit of manipulation.
IMO it's not worth replacing as one mistake will cause another mark and you'll never be satisfied with it unless it's as new. I've found that only after you get a few nicks and bumps that you actually use it like it's meant to be - used. It's not being careless but spending more time using it than being super cautious is where it's at.

If you haven't taken it apart there is NO WAY there can be dust "IN" the screen, it's hermetically sealed.
If you have scratches, just replace it, there are numerous guides out there but google is HARD, isn't it.

Trust me, it isn't. At least not in all of them. The digitiser & screen are separate, not hermetically sealed to each other at all. They're cheap Chinese phones, little manufacturing defects are common. Small gaps that dust can get into are common, the back light leaks out of the side of my blade, I can see a gap, it shines out quite bright in the dark, I think I'm just lucky the gap isn't on the other side of the screen. My last blade (that broke) got a bit of dust under the screen (between the screen & digitiser), so far this one has avoided it.
You need to be careful if you're taking the blade apart, there are some delicate parts. The ribbon cable that connects the digitiser is a bit fragile.

I think there is something different between the GEN3 phones and others on this too.
The digitizer and the screen are fused together by a vaccum seal on my phone, it takes quite a bit to pry them apart and i can promise you that no dust could possibly get in there.
I think you're referring to white spot edge, a common phenomenon on backlit LCD's, it sounds just like it, i use hot glue mixed with water colour to fix that on on second grade items i might buy off the ... market...

Well, maybe there is on some of the versions, my apologies for assuming too much.

Camera lens scratched???

So I took a look at my lens today and almost fell off my chair, I was like is that what I think it is, sure enough I grabbed a magnifying loop and holly crap it was scratched like crazy. I've had a case on since day one from Version. Just wondering if this is a factory defect or cheap glass on our lens.

Not sure about the material. What you seen as the lens is not really the lens, its a protective cover. This camera has a faily wide angle lens and the minimum focus distance is waaaay looonger than the distance between the cover and the sensor. A scartch on the lens cover will have ZERO impact on your images. Dont buy into apples sapphire glass lens hype. I have old lenses with demolished front element that produce perfect images
But u had to get a magnifying glass?????

They aren't scratches, get the light to shine off the surface of the glass, it will be clean, they are cracks inside the glass, about to return my third one because of this. I use a jewelers loupe to look at them, this is bad and your going to hear a lot about this issue soon. All the same problem, the crack lines run from top of phone to bottom of the phone on the lens.

How does this happen? How do you cause cracks inside the glass?
Hopefully, it's just the slightly lower Q.C. from the first batch of G2's before LG ramps up production. Almost all newly-released phones have this issue. The Note 3 is having this wiggly home button issue. Either way, it's inexcusable for LG and it's good that you guys are letting us know about this. I plan to get a G2 soon and i'll be taking a very close look at those lens before i move out of the shop.

Same way it happens in gemstones, stress. I think I have figured out what is happening, if you put your phone in a place where it can flex ever so slightly, the lens glass touches the outside casing, causing stress and thats when the cracks appear. So if you put your phone in your back pocket and sit down, that would cause the phone to have flex, thus causing the glass to stress and cracking.
I think I found something that actually tells how this is happening. Read here

Not unbreakable, otherwise we wouldn't be able to cut it, same as diamond. Sapphire is 9 on the Mohs' scale of hardness, diamond is obviously 10, the hardest substance, but even it can break and scratch. The thing is the difference in hardness between 9 and 10, it's like 140 times harder, wow!
Your exactly right about the imperfections, if the edges are damaged, they are already doomed to crack, and you can't see it because it's smaller than the eye can see and it's in a frame. But if you look closely you can see the edge looks rough, unfinished, theres the problem.

A Peak Inside the Priv

Just thought you all would like to take a little look under the cover of the Blackberry Priv. Apologies for image quality and lack of complete disassembly, I didn't want to burn my bridges for the warranty just for opening the back cover. If any of you are braver than I and feel like delving deeper, taking the cover is very easy. Just pry the left and right sides away with your fingernails so it is loose. Remove the SD card and SIM card tray. Then very carefully pry the top of the cover away from the device. Then simply slide the slightly tilted cover off the bottom, away from the speakers. From there you can see all the goods! I was just curious if I could find a discernible difference between the Samsung S series antennas and the Priv, for the sake of future MFT compatibility. It seems as though they both have the same antennas so the hardware difference must be chip-level. Bummer. Also you can see why the right side gets so hot with the battery and antennas sitting there.

What does the front bottom look like? I'm curious how big the speaker is.

Can you test the speaker? Reports online, including my own Priv, only the left works(Mono), but in this picture it shows the Priv having both Left and Right speakers. Can you take a picture of the front of the phone where the speakers are?
I'm confused as to why they would include L & R stereo speakers but only the Left works, is the R disabled? or did we all get Priv's that are defective. I had a feeling the whole bottom was a speaker grill, and this confirms it......
The whole bottom is definitely not a speaker. It's only the left third or so.

I also want to know the answer to this. Are units defective? It definitely shows two so why does everyone only hear mono sound from the left?
I don't think there's anything of the sort going on. Based on the pictures, since I'm not confident enough to peel the back off my own Priv, it looks like the thing you see on the right (left in the pic) is the control board for the 3.5mm jack combined with the mic, which presumably exists down there, since there's no other spot at the bottom of the unit where a mic could possibly be. It definitely only has the one speaker, but as far as I'm concerned, it's pretty exceptional for a phone. At least, I have no qualms with the sound from it, certainly much louder than any other phone I've had.
Forgot to add, I'm also confident that there's only one speaker because using Poweramp and toggling the Mono output setting, as well as the balance from Left to Right, everything only sounds like it comes from the one speaker.
Sorry guys, my mistake. I hadn't even tested my speakerphone until today. I based my assumption on the fact there is a baffle material under the span of the case baffle and the "L" and "R" label on the plastic assemblies on the board. I hadn't tried to disassemble it further. There is someone on YouTube that will give a complete teardown in a couple of days so if I don't see it posted I'll crack my phone open again to investigate.
That escalated quickly

Just remove from the case and pull plastic button inserts out. Take a mini philips screwdriver like for eyeglasses and scrape the little piece of plastic out on both sides. There will be 2 on left and 2 on right then use super glue to adhere the plastic buttons directly to where the little plastic pieces were above and below the buttons. It works for me and no indentions.

There will be 2 on left and 2 on right then use super glue to adhere the plastic buttons directly to where the little plastic pieces were above and below the buttons. It works for me and no indentions.

Should have done that before but I am humanly struggling with my "OCD" and trying to forget about it, but will leave it like that as the damage is already done and I really want to save the hassle with an exchange.
Thanks for the tip anyways

I think they addressed the problem because the rivets on the one I received the other day were flat as heck and did not protrude like photos I've seen. There wasn't anything to cut with an exacto even if I wanted to. It's still a plastic piece of junk though ($40?!) and I decided to just use a pocket pouch...brings me back to the G1 days

What in the name of cobwebs happened here!

Dust under glass.

After a couple of hours on my pocket i noticed that there is a lot of dust under the glass just on the top of home button. No way to clean it. It´s sucks, phone which is supposedly IP68 water and dust resistant in two hours looks like my old note 4. Can´t take photos for now.
Any of you guys with black phone also noticed that? I can live with but it drive me crazy.
Cheers.
You sure it's under the glass and not just stuck to the top? It's strange that dust could get through. If so, I would contact the retailer and get it exchanged as it sounds like a defective handset.

Yes, black version.
I went to Samsung customer service. They told they dont see nothing strange (of course). They offered to send it to Samsung official service on Madrid (Spain) to check if there is some kind of physical damage and let them decide what to do.
So probably i will do that on monday. other 2 weeks without my phone.
Someone else with this problem? I just want know if its a problem or something normal.
Cheers.

How can you put your nail inside this micro hole?

I suppose it wasn't actually under the glass. It was at the side of the home button.
The issue in the photo looks more like light from the screen to me.

From my personal experience and "investigation" I was able to remove most of the dust with a very thin sheet of paper and lots of patience. I put the paper between the glass and the frame and pushed the dust out. It took a long time though.
As for the investigation part it appears that the black coating doesn't extend all the way to the edge of the glass which means there's a very narrow part of the glass where the dust can get stuck and stay visible.
It's a near perfect phone with 2 very annoying downsides, fingerprints and dust getting stuck around the glass frame, at least with the black version.
I have this same issue. Driving me crazy...
If these phones are supposed to be water resistant, have you tried to stick it under a tap to see if it washes out?

It's annoying as hell but I guess I live with it unless it makes it way to the camera or the proximity sensor
Sounds like a defect.
Dust under the screen means that your phone is not water proof.
Id go back to the store and get another one.
I had this with a gaminng system. Took it back and got another one.
It does not mean it's not water proof it just means it's not sealed around the edge, it's sealed further in as there's a small crevice
