Best ROM for SNESOID / EMulation - G1 General

I know this is asking for opinions on what roms are the best... however, I have used several different ones, be it 1.5 / 1.6 or even 2.0+ .. I'm wanting to find out if there are any other big emulator gamers (for SNES / NES / GBA) that have found something that has the basics for the phone but primarily focus on the 3D/2D graphics of the phone.
Currently im using the CE 1.2 update (Eclair 2.0) and I'm still noticing a few hitches every now and then and sound lag when playing Snesoid (paid version).
Thanks for any info if possible.

Curse my love for SNES and Chrono Trigger =/

I'm using CM4.2.15 and it's fine. Couple of little glitches as it starts but it's fine after that.

Graphics performance is all but irrelevant to a SNES emulator.. it depends on CPU power. Just steer clear of Eclair roms until they have fully functional GL drivers.

JIT might help? Link in my sig for how to enable JIT.

Thanks for the replies, I'll try and give JIT a go... I hear JIT rocks the box for CE 1.2 ...
However, I'm a little hesitant to use it since I haven't done enough research on all what it can do.
I'll give JIT a go the next day work is slow

SuperD for me, I have snesoid, gameboid & gensoid all all three run like a charm.
Just wish I could kick this damn annoying Donkey Kong addiction I have!

JIT is reversible, so don't worry about having to reflash and whatnot.

I have JIT enabled now, I'm not noticing any improvement on the SNESoid itself, though the phone does respond faster.
I may try out Super D and see if the smoothness will work with the ROM... it feels like the phone is hitting a hardware limit not necessarily software enforced.
When there are several things going on in the screen, ie a lot of moving pixels / characters, it hitches up pretty bad and the sound itself goes crazy / lags.

Will the 10mb ram hack decrease the performance of SNESOID / Emulators? I know this might be a basic question but I'm interested to know..

It won't slow down your experience. It might even enhance it a little bit.

Got PSX games running on my apache!

Every time I think there is absolutely no life left in this poor little phone, it always surprises me. I tried it on a whim after I got it working on my Tilt 2, with no expectation it would work. Ten minutes later I'm playing Final Fantasy Tactics on my phone, and I don't mean it boots up and you have to deal with crippling lag or slowness, it's playable! On 5 frame skip it runs at about 45 FPS with and sound on!
Here is my set-up.
FPSEce 0.10
Omnia D3D Driver
HTC Performance to overclock to 624Mhz
PDAJ'S Clean WM 6.5 Build 21501 ROM (You can find it at PPCgeeks)
Only S2U2 and iContact Avian Edition are running in the background
I've only tested Final Fantasy Tactics due to having limited space on my memory card, but I plan on trying out a few more games. I also heard that disabling the sound can get you quite a few more frames per second, plan on trying that out. If anyone needs either the Omnia D3D Driver or HTC Performance cabs, I'll be more then happy to post them for you. Try it yourself and post the results.
Happy Gaming!
Niceee
That's pretty awesome dude, i would love to get PSX games running on my HTC Tilt 2.
you should see what gran turismo looks like on my expo running at 60fps.

Please do post it here. Is it needed to run FPSce? I Remember my old Ipaq 1940 could run them full speed without any drivers...
I hate how I spent so much money on the HTC Apache back in the day only so it could become a useless pile. I saw that post up there on a successful PSX game on the Apache and I got really excited.
I tried installing all that same stuff (the D3D driver, the overclocking utility, FPSEce) only as for the Apache's ROM, I used a custom ROM I built with PPCKitchen (it couldn't differ much from the 'clean' ROM, because you can hardly add anything to it because of the limited space).
I tried running Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and it didn't run past the "Press Start" screen. I was hoping that since the game is a fairly simple sidescroller, it would run on the Apache, but no luck.
So far (for me) the only emulator I've tried that runs well and plays smooth on the Apache is that PocketNester. The PocketSNES runs about like the DreamSNES for Dreamcast: only runs at an acceptable framerate without sound. I thought it would be better, since the Dreamcast runs at 200mhz and the Apache can be overclocked to 624mhz... Granted I've only tried these three emulators, but those were the three I knew I'd probably get the most use out of.
With this in mind, I figure a gameboy emulator would run perfectly also.

PSX4Droid Performance on G2

Anyone else tried PSXDroid on their G2?
I tried playing marvel vs capcom, chrono cross, and x=men vs street fighter.
Im using PSX4DROID v 1.3
The sound is super laggy and glitched and games are not running at 100%. However, i have read many comments taht say v1.3 is just a horrible version of the emulator. Anyone else playing and having a good experience?

With sound on, everything is very laggy. but i just saw this video on youtube and his PSX4DROID emulator is running much faster, so i think its the version i have.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaYks8qHD1w&feature=related
Well try the older version... because you know its NOT the phone. The G2 is the most powerful android phone out there, period. Let us know your results... I was thinking about getting it but heard its too buggy for use.
When I first got the G2 I tried out Chrono Cross on psx4droid. It ran very well, although I did have the sound off (not a fan of annoying sounds while playing games on my phone).
But after updating psx4droid from the market yesterday, the emulator runs very poorly. Hopefully the dev undoes whatever he changed so that it will start running well again.

Yeah, it might be the update. From past experience with many emulators, sound off always runs better. The problem is not that the g2 can't handle ps games but it has to emulate them in a player than runs inside android if that makes any sense. In other words native games like nova or heavy gunner which are graphic equivilant to ps games run better because they run pretty much natively. Where ps games are ran inside a emulator coded to run natively in android. I know that explanation is poor but you get the point. The ps emulator is relatively new too compared to the others. But ps games are pushing the limits... have you heard if any N64 emulators that run well or at all yet?
well, either find a better warez source to update to 1.5, or stop being cheap and buy the app from market; sound is crappy, but when it is off ff9 and chrono cross run very smooth

Newest ver on the market is 1.5 (you know that though since you purchased it )
Ran 1.5 today w/ ROMS on class(6) and it was about the same performance I believe: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=802147
Haven't tested with sound much, but on my G2 with psx4droid 1.1 I've been playing:
FFVII
FF Tactics
Megaman Legends
all with no problems, great playability
I purchased it (support your developers, anusholes), but it does seem laggy and sound is glitchy when I play parappa the rappa. Haven't tried any other games.
I have had extensive experience comparing the galaxy phones to the g2 performance in psx4droid. First of version 1.1 is the fastest. It is also the buggiest. On psx4droid 1.1 the g2 does very playable speeds on all games but really heavy polygonal games like fighters and whatnot. Zodttd released versions 1.3 and 1.4 that were much slower while trying to fix bugs. Now 1.5 is the best balance. Only slightly slower than 1.1 but slow
enough to make a lot of games unenjoyable on the g2 while the galaxy phones are able to keep up. Side by side they are like 30 percent faster than the g2 in psx4droid. Im hoping for root soon so we can overclock.

Thanks, this was very helpful
i'm currently running Tmobile G2 overclocked to 1.45 GHZ using a root module, and unfortunately psx4droid 1.61 is playing horridly aweful =(. This was an upgrade from 1.5, which played phenomenially better than 1.61. In 1.5 if the CPU could not process enough power (logically), the game would be a little slower, however 1.61 has sound that is TOO FAST for ALL games, with slow graphics (wtf)?. So in other words, My sound for the game is INCREDIBLY fast, while the in game graphics are sloooww to a crawl. Is there anyone that's willing to host the psx4droid 1.5 apk for me to obtain? I've bought this emulator expecting only improvement, not drawback =(

Gaming on the Epic

I feel like a big part of some of us getting the Epic was the fact it had an excellent Gpu and would make a great gaming device. Now that its out and we have our froyo, I think its a good time to start a thread about gaming on our phones. I think we should post vids of games running on our phones and share it with the world so they can see how powerful our phones really are. Im going to start getting a bunch of games and recording it, listing whether im overclocked or not and what rom i was running at the time. Feel free to add you own videos and comments
Heres a few to start off with: I will try to update regularly. Im also open to suggestions
Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus - Midnight rom v5.1 - no overclock

Zelda 64 OOt running on N64oid - ACS rom(dont remember which one ) - no overclock

New Vids: 4-10-11
Metal Gear Solid PSX running on Fpse - Midnight rom v5.1 - overclocked to 1.3 ( runs the same at 1 ghz)

I converted my phone to ext 4, I am able to play perfect dark longer without too many crashes, and goldeneye is smoother at 1.3ghz. still testing between kernels to see which is best..
You can probably use the video option of the shoot me app to record the game directly from your phone. Probably get better vid quality

really.. i was looking for a video capture app. ill check it out. thanks
just tried it.. it works ok.. but the videos arent smooth so you cant really get the full affect of the game
I think the way you are going it now is good, shows how the controls work with the on-screen controls.
ok so F Zero (n64oid) at 0 frame skips with SFR ext 4 and Vision Kernel 1.0 (set at 1.3ghz on demand, performance and 1.4ghz crashes on me) runs really well.
also, Goldeneye is now playable! , still choppy here n there, but much much less than before. it does depend on your rom, I tried a few other goldeneye roms from before. I dont think this site lets me post it up so...
the dump is located in this forum under Xperia Play, be sure to download it. Downloading mine right now, hopefully we can use their PSX emu, games, etc.
Also with Goldeneye and Pdark, the games tend to make the emu crash or become frozen. My kernel didnt like it either so had tons of data corruption I think, just switched back to twlight kernel. If your phone can handle the vision kernel, then use that for gaming..
Goldeneye doesn't really crash for me but it gets REALLY slow after a certain point.. as for psx, I've been using FPSE and it works pretty dam good. I've been playing metal gear solid perfectly.. controls are a little tricky at first though

Even half a year from now, the Epic will still be near the top tier of phone hardware. There are actually games out there that run well ONLY on phones with the Epic's specs. Market reviews will show you that pretty quickly.

My new gaming rom project. RELEASED!

I will build a gaming rom. Currently playing all high end games with my current set even no microlags. Dungeon defenders, gta 3, shadowgun, modern combat etc.. Better than most of dual core htc phones.
tell me more games for test.

Sleepy Jack caused lag when there were lots of enemies. Also, when I played a few of the games you listed after a fresh reboot, there were no lags as well. However, if I kept the phone on for like 2-3 days and tried to play the same games again, they would lag. Are you running odexed or deodexed rom at the moment?
what rom exactly are you on? i hope there will be an ics cm9/miui for that.

You will able to play it better than froyo. It will be stock JVU value pack rom and I will update it insantly when new roms come.
And rom will be RFS and no EXT4 support because EXT4 causes CPU overheads and this producing lag on games.

Now trying a new script named "gaming mode" by me.

I've never noticed much improvement after converting to EXT4 anyway, apart from the higher but insignificant quadrant scores.
By the way, the JVU rom has very high ram usage, and that might interfere with the gaming performance.

I'm trying all with terminal but looks like I need a big help.
I can close all apps with terminal even haptic feedback. But how can I restart them after closing game again with scripts?
I think we can make a interface that stores high end game list to launch.
With launching a game this will launch script too and after a few sec delay game will work.
And other problem is how can this program or script detect the game is closed to restart closed process.
If we can do this we can use all widgets live wallpapers and high end games on our phone!

You have to do the same like apple with ios. Not multithreading or multitasking, you have to make a script or rom or whatever, that concentrates only on one task/thread/or whatever it is called.

Updated adreno drivers?

I do a lot of gaming on my phone and I'm always looking for ways to improve performance and efficiency. I was under the impression that Qualcomm made the adreno drivers upgradeable but I can't seem to find out how.
Also, does anyone know any OOS11 compatible kernels that support gpu overclock? Only one I could find is radioactive that supports 670mhz but I've seen other OOS10 kernels that support higher than that. Thanks a bunch.

What are you playing that it can't run.?
I run emulators, the hardest of which would be the Wii but that runs flawlessly.
Sure there's a PS2 one out there but that's slow because it's not finished..
I'm set to see anything that would require a push from a kernel.
Magisk has upgraded drivers..
If you really must then use radioactive....totally unnecessary but there you go.
Also search for adreno in play store, there's plenty of apps to mod your drivers and such.
I'd be interested to hear what you're actually doing that requires it though.

I definitely don't require it, and you've got it right- there really isn't much you can throw at it that it can't handle, and nothing here is a need per se. I just simply like to have absolute latest and greatest just for sake of having it and that might just be me. As far as things that I have thrown at it that I wouldn't mind a couple more fps, even though at this rate is a bit of a nit-pick; Lineage II Revolution (High pop areas), Genshin impact, Ark, TauCeti, Dolphin emu wii(CODMW3, mostly) games + GC games internal res @ 1080P to be screen cast to my TV. Plus I'm a bit of a benchmark nerd ...because epeen.

Exactly. Yes, efficiency is always something I'm looking for as well. There's times, especially when I'm home near the charger that I like to crank things up a bit, but always have to be careful running heavy games on the go. 3d mark wild life stress test benchmark used 10% in 20 mins!! Of course, that's not real-world use, luckily.
