Eris Multi-Touch just as bad a N1 - Droid Eris Android Development

I was playing with the multi-touch test software from the market last night and noticed that we have the same problem as the N1. Can anyone else try this and confirm this please? Could it be all HTC screens or software that doesn't agree with HTC. I think HTC screens are not designed to handle Multi-touch very well.

What is the problem that you noticed?

I for one am getting THE SAME exact problem I had before although less frequently. It seems that only the 3rd quarter of the screen "responds" but doesn't help much since it is super jittery and I can't actually press anything. The weirdest part is that it follows my finger when it is up to about 1/2" from the screen.
I end up having to just lock the phone and wait a minute or so. Also it ends up going away with much less persistence (it would last for 10-15 min or so sometimes).
An idea of what I'm talking about below:
Code:

Did you try the multi-touch test program? I know you know when its non responsive but give it a try and let me know if you get the same results as that were written about in a few articles. Thx

Which multi-touch test were you using? So I can try it out.

go to the market-> search multi touch test and select the Multitouch Visible Test.

I tried out...
Multi-touch Visible Test: Works fine.
MultiTouch Visualizer: Works fine.
These apps didn't destroy responsiveness which usually happens instantly after opening a broken one.
Do you have a link to the N1 problem so I can see what may need to be done to recreate it?

with the phone in landscape: put both thumbs down in the center on each side then move them in the opposite direction ie. left up right down. go up and down a few times without lifting you thumbs and you will see the red dot and the blue dot get confused.

I can confirm the behavior with Multitouch Visible Test.

ahh riight as if you were moving the box using the intersection of lines and not the dots themselves?
That does happen. However, it does not stop manipulation of the box though I wish you could put a simple picture in that box to see how it could effect it.

Left hand scroll bar in IE?!

Does anyone know if there's a setting to change the scroll bar from right to left in IE? I looked around but no joy. Thanks lads.
Other than using the unit upside down, I dont think this is possible! I am assuming that you are left handed ?
Nigel
It would be a nice option, not just for Universal, but for Win Mobile in general. I am left-handed, and the vertical scrolling is a PITA. I can not see where I am scrollling to because my left hand is covering the screen, and sometimes even accidentally touching it & activating links.
Same problem here Bill. Anyway, maybe someday Microsoft will make something for us the left handed ones. And thanks for the great tip veletron. lol (I can actually do more or less the same things with both hands but fot this I rather use the left.)
Couldn't you use the scroll buttons instead?
I'm working on something that could be hacked into assisting this, but it'd be a bit of a cludge.
If there's a need shout out and I'll see if I can get around to it.

I have tried using the scroll buttons, but they don't really scroll, rather they jump from link to link (in PIE) which resulsts in very jerky screen movements, and that is not very useful for me.
Then I tried a registry hack mentioned on another forum to make the button do real screen scrolling, but when I tried to use it, the device froze, and sent me to Hard Reset H*ll.
Ideal for me would be in PIE would be scroll bars on the left and buttons that really scrolled. Actually scroll bars on the left would be nice in every application.
It is not a necesity for me, but the bar on the right is an inconvenience --mainly in PIE.
Lefty here as well dude. Would be great to have a less discriminatory device
The worst thing is, that when you use the scroll bar with your left hand, you can't really see when to stop since your hand is covering most of the screen.

2 Issues I have with the Touch Dual

Hi,
I have a touch dual, and there are 2 things i have been searching hi and low to find a fix for.
1. When opening any sms or email, it opens, and scrolls right down to the bottom of the sms. I then have to scroll up to see the message. Is getting very annoying...
I was told on the forum here http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=836216&p=1
That it is to do with "Same on the TyTN II. It has to do with the D-Pad scroll from the TouchFlo."
Anyone got any ideas, or registry edits that can fix this.?
2. The keypad on my dual always defaults to the letter C instead of the Letter A. Very annoying when trying to write an sms, as letter a is .. well 100 percent more common by itself than C.
On a side note, i have noticed a bit of sideways movement on my touch 'screen' or the top half of the slider. Is this common? hoping doesnt get worse, might need to get it repaired.
Any help would be appreciated.

A lot of us are getting this, look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=356340
Mine is only a week old, so no problems with the slide ...
However, I've got the same irritation with the C instead of A - very, very irritating.

Awkward scrolling

Hi again all
Does anyone elase find scrolling awkward on the HD ? I find that if I am scrolling through a list of items I invariably execute the initial item rather than (or aswell as ) scroll the list.
e.g Scrolling through programms. 6 times out of 10 I will execute a prog rather than scroll the list.
Even when I'm using TouchPal to scroll between keyboards I more often invoke a key rather than perform a successful scroll. Watching all the preview videos on youtube, the scrolling looks so easy.
What am I doing wrong?

What do you mean? I have to lift my finger. Say I want to continue scrolling, I have to lift my finger up, place it back at top of screen and repeat the process.
I do find scrolling to be a bit awkward. I know my reply is sort of lame and doesn't add much to the topic but I did answer the question.

Suggest you read the user manual on the various finger actions. See page 34 and 35.

Is there an online PDF user manual?
Never mind, I found one http://www.filefactory.com/file/e314ad/n/htc-touch-hd-user-manual_pdf
i had this problem initially as the screen seemed hyper sensitive at first but the more i hasve used it it seems to have settled down and i dont have this issue anymore ما شاء الله
Just a little practice, that's all.

any guesses to Google's next OS release?

I'm not rooted, I really didn't feel like tinkering with the phone right now, but I'm kind of getting tired of Launcher2's performance and behavior since the last OTA... aside from the obvious bugs (forgetting which home screen you are on), quite often it takes FOREVER to "redraw" when I exit an app and it force closes 5-6 times a week.
Any prospects of them releasing a bug-fix patch? I really don't have time to play around with loading roms and then maintaining my own update schedule.

Like there aren't a gazillion other threads about Android 2.2 and Froyo already on this forum?

That's not a bug, it was changed on purpose in 2.1 to go the the 3rd homescreen when you press the home button. It does seem like a weird idea at first but it's actually increased my navigation speed considerably. Before I would forget which screen I was on sometimes and I would have to pause and check. Now I know which one it's going to be and I know instantly which was to swipe to get where I want to go. I think it was a good choice.

Yes it is. I suggest you check again.
From any home screen other than the 3rd one you mention, hit the apps softkey to open apps. Now press either of the home screen buttons, soft or hard and you will (as you say) get returned to home screen 3 or the middle one. This is fine and good. BUT take a look at the mini icons at the bottom of the screen.
They are supposed to show
** ** to indicate you are on screen 3.
However they will incorrectly show the screen you were on before heading off to the apps screen and not the one you are on now.

That IS the home screen bug.
Yeah, that and the occasional battery pulls I have to do to reset a frozen phone and the bluetooth random reboots are getting bothersome.

Yes that would be a bug. I haven't heard of anyone else with this problem nor can I replicate it myself.
I've heard of many people with that bug. I have it also. Only on the stock ROM. The background is also offset to where it would be if you were on the previous screen (the one the dots indicate), as opposed to being centered when on the middle screen.

I had that issue before I rooted and installed Enom's ROM, now I rely on noticing how far left/right my wallpaper is shifted to tell which screen I'm on, as I have the phone/browser buttons in the bottom corners instead of the dots.

[HELP] Problem with multi touch nexus 4 lollipop 5.1.1

Good evening, can you help me? Every time I go to use the multi touch on some touch to the game, it still works, just can not use the multi touch simultaneously, For example when I try to walk and jump in a game, the character jumps, but stop the run, in photos I can use the multi touch quietly, does anyone know how to fix this?Another problem is that when I go into the play store, type a name of any app and if it appears a direct link to google play store simply crash. I'm using lollipop 5.1.1 please help me

Is this a new problem on your phone?
Maybe a factory reset would help?
After replacement screen i believe, the problem of when I use the multi-touch and when I drop a finger both sort out, if I push a button and push each other and hold works, but if I let go of the buttons the two "disconnect" for example : if I run and shoot in a game, if I walk and pressing the shoot, he will ride and shoot normally, but if I try to get going and pressing 1 for 1 second to shoot, ride the will "lose the contact"
I've started to get a similar issue. I have developed a 'dead zone' in the top 3rd immediately above the centre of the screen. When scrolling the phone is registering a press on the screen and selecting links/icons instead of scrolling past them. Sometimes the phone goes loopy registering continuous presses along this line not allowing any other screen presses to be registered. I have enabled 'show pointer touches' in developer mode which shows the screen registering touches that I have not performed. Pressing the power button and then squeezing the sides of the phone resolves this temporally leaving me with the 'dead zone'.
Am I right in thinking that a replacement screen is needed?
