[HELP]Can I flash my TG01(HongKong CHT) into the official UK rom? - TG01 ROM Development

My tg01 was bought from Hongkong,it is a simfree version but with Chinese rom,can somebody tell me can I flash it into the OrangeUK rom??? Because the rom fluency is not good enough due to the Chinese language I think

If this a real tg01 (not t01 or other asian carrier's brand) I think it's possible with desired ROM(european) & sddl+/short pins(see dedicated threads on xda/modaco forums).
P.S> If possible , what problem(s) do you have with tg01?

ya,it's a real non-simlocked tg01,and the price is good enough in HK,but the short pins way seems too complicated for me

Use sddl+ like I did...
BTW how much is the tosh in HK?

Yes but I bought it some days before Orange made that Offer
But I think even 215 Euro is a very good price for the TG01.

I know that, but orange only offer that price for several days, right?

O2 and HTC I'd imagine
on another note.... I hope to hell its not the same price as the original XDA was when it first came out.
I dont care what anyone says... nothing of that spec is worth £500 !!!!
<hopes O2 are reading>
If they released it for what the XDA is selling for (£300 w/ contract?) then I'd definetly go for it but not much above...
I wonder how much they will sell the XDA for when the XDAII comes out?
I hope they will sell olso for outsite ... like Italy.
...and unlooked device... cause if else, we must discover how
to unlook the XDA II like first XDA.
Denis
stop selling
I bet that they stop selling the xda original. After all What extra revenue can they get from it? The new XDA II will have MMS because of the integrated camera. This is what sll the providers want. They make money from sms, gprs, mms, voice etc. That is what they are really after.
Wait and see what package they get together. £50 p/m. inclusive minutes, data, sms, mms etc... This is how they make their money...
Martin
a phone where the company sells it cheaper along with a subscription are almost certain to be simlocked
I'm quite happy to stick with their contract for a year if it means I'm getting 200 notes off the phone lol

Yeah thats 6-700 pounds UK.
Trouble is... they probably will sell it for that price with a contract on top of that !!!
Bummer - coz I'm really enjoying my XDA at the moment (got it for 150 pounds second hand) and would love the extra power. Have thought aboput going for a Toshiba e750 and a bluetooth phone - bummer on the pockets... but what else to do eh...
We'll have to sit tight and wait I guess....
What are the chances of being able to buy the base unit from HTC (without paying for the software) and *ahem* flash it with an XDA-developers ROM - or has that never been an option ??
Fuzzy
The XDA have not yet entry in Italy ...
I'm curious if the XDA II will be disponible to buy in Italy ... else i'll must buy another time from O2 UK.
Who will buy form me ???
Denis
Price MDA II from T-Mobile Germany with 24 Month Contract
The Price for the MDA I with Pocket PC 2003 with 24 month
contract will be 199,95 Euro at end October and that new
MDA II will be 499,95 Euro with 24 month contract
(selling starts end October)

i think i will wait until they reduce the price of the xda. at least i won't be a beta tester
regarding your question, HTC doesn't sell units to end customers. you'll only get original unflashed units, if you buy a few thousand pieces and put your own logo on it
The thing is that o2 had an agreement with the manufacturer to have some exclusivity in UK and possibly Germany for the original XDA. This is why T-Mobile have not been able to sell the MDA in UK for last two years. When there is no competition, o2 can afford to charge 300 pound +
However, the xdaII will have competition with the MDAII, the same device, but T-Mobile have got around the exclusivity issue. Hence the prices will reflect competition.
Found today an article in the internet professionell magazine. They are writing, that the XDA II will have a price of 399 Euro and will be released about one month before the mda II will do.
But they also write, that the mda II will be released at the end of october.
Question is just in which year....

I-Mate K-JAM vs Qtek 9100

Is there any obvious reason why the K-JAM is about £60 ($108) more expensive than the 9100? I'm assuming they're either made in the same factory or the same "blueprints" are given to each company to make the device. If this is the case then I'm guessing I-Mate is just playing off of it's well established brand name... or maybe there are just some software differences.
Thoughts?
The only thing I can think of is the support you get from I-mate. Now I know its not great but have you tried to find an English support site for the QTEK..
Hehe, this is true.

Is it http://www.qtek.fi/ ?

A better site but "distributör för Qtek-produkterna" not them
Still - I have to say the lack of web site etc has convinced me that the extra £50 or so and 1 year warrenty instead of 2 is worth it in the long run so I'll probably get an Imate.
Terran
can we have a list of best price/dealer for the qtek 9100 and the imate k jam sim free, from all purchasers to be in the uk?
qtek 9100 on buymobilephones.net £429 inc vat
imate k-jam amazon.co.uk £449 inc vat
anyone found better deals?
thanks for any replies.
Qtek 9100 on www.smartdevicesdirect.com is £410.08
I-mate K-JAM on www.smartdevicesdirect.com is £468.83
I've ordered the Qtek from above back when it was only £400 (they raised the price by £10 pre-tax!).
Hrm, £449.99 for a K-JAM, thats a very good price indeed. If I trusted that Amazon would get stock early I'd probably change my order.
for a change i have to be patient, going on holiday next week, so wont place an order untill i get back

the more i think about it, i would prefer to get the i-mate k-jam, due to the availability of support.
with this type of product you are more likely to have a software problem than a hardware problem, two years is great but probably not as useful as support.
i still cannot find on-line support for qtek in english
note for rookery, do you know anyone in the UK who could order and post to you? that way no import duty cause it's a gift.

Amazon is good but they don't indicate when they will get stock !! If you are a patient person for a new PDA then it's worth waiting at least a month or so before buying as the price always drops.
If your anything like me though waiting a couple of months after release would be detrimental to my health  .
Imagine , you are walking down the road one month after release on your nokia because you sold your Jam to fund your new K-Jam, you turn the corner and there is a guy chatting away on his brand new K-Jam  Nooooooo !!! I'd rather eat Liver

Can somene clarify (02 Atom) vs (HTC Prophet/JAMin/818 Pro)

Can somene clarify the key differences between (02 Atom) vs (HTC Prophet/JAMin/818 Pro).
All I can tell is that Atom has the original 416mhz processor and 2.7" screen while and the other one has the new slower OMAP chip and 2.8" screen.
Anything else in difference?

How much did it cost altogether?
I'm not so sure they'll ship one from HK as they now list the imate jammin on their UK site.
I think I can get it delivered for less than (5,150 HKD=£375) from Expansys Hong-Kong.
Expansys were expensive when I got my magician last year.
Theirs sold for about £401 excluding delivery.
I bought one from mobilejoker.de for £380 and that price included:
1GB SD card,
UPS Delivery from Germany to England
Cash-on-delivery fee.
Not many people seem to be selling it yet so I may wait a few weeks.
Expansys UK lists the magician for £355.90 but the Hong Kong site should deliver the Prophet for £375.
27, £375 is exactly what I paid for my device. I just ordered it from expansys.com.hk and called expansys UK quoting my order ref no a little later. It was a very simple transaction.

The moment I saw this deal, I jumped at it without second thought. But they only have silver model. I am not in HK now. You should ask a friend who lives or pass-by HK and ask him to get one for you. At this price it is hard to tell if there are any more stocks left in a few days.

Actually, Dopod U1000 (white) can be upgraded officially to WM6 as opposed to HTC Advantage X7500 (black), from what I read somewhere. Please correct me if I am wrong. So, I guess that explains why a brand new Dopod is higher by $100 dollars in price from a brand new HTC Advantage X7500.
Unfortunately, I don't have a friend in Hong Kong.

Can't believe we don't have someone online here from Hong Kong who can buy us some and send them. Easy way to make $50 per unit, I'd pay that
Hopefully when the new version X7510 is fully released, the prices should go down on these babies. Right now, most sites are offering $1100 to $1200, the expected price of the new version is $1300, so it's pointless to really purchase the old version at such a price.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if HTC announced the price of the new version to be $800? That would really make things interesting.

Buying an Omnia 7

I noticed that on Expansys they have knocked the price of the Omnia 7 down to £349.99 and I was wondering if these are UK specific handsets or EU ones & if they are EU ones what effect if any would there would be in getting updates compared to the UK handset?

Expansys ships from all over EU, so they're generic EU (even in UK, afaik). UK handsets are branded by carriers, so more chances to get updates delayed if you buy a UK Omnia7. If you're considering buying one, try Germany, as there you can find the 16 GB model (not sure if on Expansys though).

There are a couple of sellers on eBay Germany that you can check out, who supply 16gb versions and are cheaper than Expansys. Mine is 16gb, new, unlocked and unbranded, and arrived in about 3 days. I was given the tracking details so I was able to track my parcel across Europe. The mains adapter came with a 2-pin plug so you'll need to supply your own. When I first turned the phone on I was given an option to switch to English.
The best thing was that when I connected the phone up to Zune it immediately told me that there was an update available (the pre-update). The update was smooth and painless. As the device is unbranded future updates should be available straightaway as they don't need to be "approved" by a carrier first.
I have to confess the one thing I have avoided buying through eBay is expensive electronic items, but I will certainly look into following what you have said.

No need to buy from eBay, if you have bad experiences (I had a couple in hundreds of good purchases).
The price for Omnia 7 16GB on Amazon.de is 299E + cca 7E shipping.
Note: apparently this is still a seller, on Amazon, yesterday there were ones on sale from Amazon, I guess they run out

But Amazon.de don't ship to the UK (at least for that particular item), as I've just tried it. The eBay seller I used also has a shop that you can buy directly from: http://www.es-mobilfunk.de. Thanks for those links.
I have to say I hadn't noticed price drops in the WP 7 handsets over here, just the Omnia 7.
I don't think the price-drops are as extreme as they're suggesting. I only noticed price drops for the Omnia 7, mainly because I wanted to buy one at the time. Its a good time to buy if you're interested in WP7
