O2 and HTC I'd imagine

on another note.... I hope to hell its not the same price as the original XDA was when it first came out.
I dont care what anyone says... nothing of that spec is worth £500 !!!!
<hopes O2 are reading>
If they released it for what the XDA is selling for (£300 w/ contract?) then I'd definetly go for it but not much above...
I wonder how much they will sell the XDA for when the XDAII comes out?

I hope they will sell olso for outsite ... like Italy.
...and unlooked device... cause if else, we must discover how
to unlook the XDA II like first XDA.
Denis

stop selling
I bet that they stop selling the xda original. After all What extra revenue can they get from it? The new XDA II will have MMS because of the integrated camera. This is what sll the providers want. They make money from sms, gprs, mms, voice etc. That is what they are really after.
Wait and see what package they get together. £50 p/m. inclusive minutes, data, sms, mms etc... This is how they make their money...
Martin

a phone where the company sells it cheaper along with a subscription are almost certain to be simlocked

I'm quite happy to stick with their contract for a year if it means I'm getting 200 notes off the phone lol

Yeah thats 6-700 pounds UK.
Trouble is... they probably will sell it for that price with a contract on top of that !!!
Bummer - coz I'm really enjoying my XDA at the moment (got it for 150 pounds second hand) and would love the extra power. Have thought aboput going for a Toshiba e750 and a bluetooth phone - bummer on the pockets... but what else to do eh...
We'll have to sit tight and wait I guess....
What are the chances of being able to buy the base unit from HTC (without paying for the software) and *ahem* flash it with an XDA-developers ROM - or has that never been an option ??
Fuzzy

The XDA have not yet entry in Italy ...
I'm curious if the XDA II will be disponible to buy in Italy ... else i'll must buy another time from O2 UK.
Who will buy form me ???
Denis

Price MDA II from T-Mobile Germany with 24 Month Contract
The Price for the MDA I with Pocket PC 2003 with 24 month
contract will be 199,95 Euro at end October and that new
MDA II will be 499,95 Euro with 24 month contract
(selling starts end October)

i think i will wait until they reduce the price of the xda. at least i won't be a beta tester
regarding your question, HTC doesn't sell units to end customers. you'll only get original unflashed units, if you buy a few thousand pieces and put your own logo on it

The thing is that o2 had an agreement with the manufacturer to have some exclusivity in UK and possibly Germany for the original XDA. This is why T-Mobile have not been able to sell the MDA in UK for last two years. When there is no competition, o2 can afford to charge 300 pound +
However, the xdaII will have competition with the MDAII, the same device, but T-Mobile have got around the exclusivity issue. Hence the prices will reflect competition.

Found today an article in the internet professionell magazine. They are writing, that the XDA II will have a price of 399 Euro and will be released about one month before the mda II will do.
But they also write, that the mda II will be released at the end of october.
Question is just in which year....

Stefan

unless it's stolen or broken it is highly unlikely to get you such a place, XDA II has been just out on the market .... the price might drop during 2003 so you need to either:
- wait unless the price drop to acceptable level
- get a broken XDA II and try to repair it assuming you have skills to do it
- other

hints:
1. vast majority of products have been introduced firstly in USA and Asia, and only then they hit other markets ...
2. you might expect much quicker price drop in USA and Asia, as compared to Europe (not only due to a/m point 1) ... so if I were you I would stick to those regions

I-Mate K-JAM vs Qtek 9100

Is there any obvious reason why the K-JAM is about £60 ($108) more expensive than the 9100? I'm assuming they're either made in the same factory or the same "blueprints" are given to each company to make the device. If this is the case then I'm guessing I-Mate is just playing off of it's well established brand name... or maybe there are just some software differences.
Thoughts?
The only thing I can think of is the support you get from I-mate. Now I know its not great but have you tried to find an English support site for the QTEK..
Hehe, this is true.

TBH I've not been able to work out what the 'offical' qtec site is... They all seem to be too naff to be a corprate site.
Is it http://www.qtek.fi/ ?

I _think_ its the .fi site. Usually foreign websites are all naff (I mean look at anything .com.tw).

A better site but "distributör för Qtek-produkterna" not them
Still - I have to say the lack of web site etc has convinced me that the extra £50 or so and 1 year warrenty instead of 2 is worth it in the long run so I'll probably get an Imate.
Terran
can we have a list of best price/dealer for the qtek 9100 and the imate k jam sim free, from all purchasers to be in the uk?
qtek 9100 on buymobilephones.net £429 inc vat
imate k-jam amazon.co.uk £449 inc vat
anyone found better deals?
thanks for any replies.
Qtek 9100 on www.smartdevicesdirect.com is £410.08
I-mate K-JAM on www.smartdevicesdirect.com is £468.83
I've ordered the Qtek from above back when it was only £400 (they raised the price by £10 pre-tax!).
Hrm, £449.99 for a K-JAM, thats a very good price indeed. If I trusted that Amazon would get stock early I'd probably change my order.
for a change i have to be patient, going on holiday next week, so wont place an order untill i get back

the more i think about it, i would prefer to get the i-mate k-jam, due to the availability of support.
with this type of product you are more likely to have a software problem than a hardware problem, two years is great but probably not as useful as support.
i still cannot find on-line support for qtek in english
note for rookery, do you know anyone in the UK who could order and post to you? that way no import duty cause it's a gift.
p.s. amazon.co.uk is still showing better price for imate k-jam £449 inc vat

Yes, it will cost £349 + £35 shipping around HK5500 when it ship to me, earlier, i think this device will only cost USD4xx, but now it cost much than that, reconsider to get one or not, for me, HK5500 for just a phone, not so reasonable, Thanks for the information

Amazon is good but they don't indicate when they will get stock !! If you are a patient person for a new PDA then it's worth waiting at least a month or so before buying as the price always drops.
If your anything like me though waiting a couple of months after release would be detrimental to my health  .
Imagine , you are walking down the road one month after release on your nokia because you sold your Jam to fund your new K-Jam, you turn the corner and there is a guy chatting away on his brand new K-Jam  Nooooooo !!! I'd rather eat Liver

sorry i left the cap lock on
any1 know if any o2 shop in london has any exec's in stock?
I got mine on an upgrade - £220 but £10 off my monthly bill. Works out at £100 for the phone over the year.
I did mention it the sales lady that I can get it on a new contract for £140 and she offered the money off the tariff then.
I doubt if they sell at all in shops. I tried Ox street but they didn't have it. I bought mine online. Check if it is in stock before bying online, they don't do PRE-ordering stuff.
cheers
Nirvana
They have plenty.
Just picked one up in Reading today to replace my JASJAR which I am selling.
They said they had 6 in stock.
 rilot
being one who has been deliberating for the past few days whether to buy the O2 Xda Exec or the JasJar
(as far as I see - the Exec's benefit being its looks and much lower cost Vs the better and more frequent firmware updates of the JasJar) -- could you please share the benefits of your knowledge and experience as to WHY you are replacing one model with the other
thanks
@techdot,
the Exec is £100 cheaper SIM free than the JJ, that's a good reason I think!
techDot
My main reason is that I can sell the JASJAR for approx £550 which pays off my Vodafone contract.
O2 have excellent data bundles such as the one I'm on which is 75MB/month for £18.
Overall, the total cost of ownership is considerably lower with the XDA Exec and an O2 contract in my situation.

Useful info sectorlord.
It's at times like this that I wish I had the patience to wait just a couple of months for the price to crash when I have paid virtually double that amount!!
Any websites that you can recommend that will post to the UK ?
You can get the unit at Mongkok Sintat stores... they are several but small stores, that sells O2 trion, Vario II, Dopod 838pro, almost all hermes variants for low price... but the catch is : only shop warranty for a year...means u need to wait at least 3weeks for fixing.
dont think those stores have websites...
www.ima-shop.com
from HK, can ship by EMS
That is amazing!!!!!!

it's not like the price has gone down. those sellers simply abuse softbank business model, and i don't think they can sell x01ht at such an incredible price for a long time.
you should hurry up before it is sold out.

Galaxy S2 for £399 on payg

Hi guys.
I just found out that the Galaxy S2 is being sold for £399 off contract. Seems a very very reasonable price. They sell the I9000 for £350!!
Should I buy or wait for other phones? I doubt others will even come close in terms of price and functionality.
Thought I'll post here in case any other guys are interested as some retailers are selling for £529, so if it helps save money which can maybe go to developers on here who are doing a great job with change to buy accessories.
Here is the link.
http://shop.o2.co.uk/mobile_phone/pay_and_go/init/Samsung/Galaxy_S_II
That's £100 cheaper than the previous cheapest I've seen. Thanks for the link
trade in for the SGS 1 is around £150 (correct me if im wrong)
so you could get the SGS 2 with No contract for £150 thats good news . im eager to get one but ive not even had this one 6 months lol
I'm on the phone to O2 at the moment.
The S2 is in stock as of today, so retail stores should also have the handset.
HOWEVER, if you buy it on PAYG, its apparently going to be SIM locked to O2, which they won't allow you to unlock until you've had the handset for 12 months.
I'm still going to test this theory out on Saturday though, as it's worth the hassle for a £100 discount!
no doubt when the sgs2 is available worldwide, there is gunna be a new section on XDA.
so im sure it wont be long before someone makes an app to remove sim lock.
like you say its worth the hassle for the £100 discount.

I doubt sim lock would really be a problem as I'm sure there will be a way to unlock.
Currently I'm on tesco mobile sim only contract where I'm getting 1gb mobile internet, 500 mins and 3000 texts for £10 a month. Its a monthly contract so I can cancel anytime but its a brilliant deal so I don't think ill consider canceling it. But great thing is Tesco Mobile runs on 02's network so this sim locked phone should still work for me

damn this stupid keyboard !!!!
maths was never my strong point
£150 i was a buyer .
£250 shall have to think about it .
Thunked about it i want i want .
Quick backup and flash back to O2 firmware and see what happens tomorrow .
But no more i cannot justify spending £350 less £150 + £249 = £449 on two years use of a phone .

I have sold my Samsung Omnia II to these people before, getting the best price.
Better than trade-in!
I found them a little bit slow paying but hey, if you're getting a better price then it's worth the wait!
I'd be tempted to sell my SGS on Ebay first for a fixed price.
I don't think i can consider any phone better than SGS-II this year...of course this is my personal opinion....but i think the only phone that i will compare it with will be Iphone5.....but i guess it will be like 50% expensive than SGS-2 on launch....So for Bang for the buck....We cannot compare then price / performance / features ratio....

You've also got to wait till september if rumours are to be believed. Personally I don't think its gonna beat the galaxy s2 spec wise so I think its all gonna depend on what platform you prefer. Btw is the model at 02 the nfc enabled model?
