HD2 nags id love to get fixed - HD2 General

guys here is a list of little nags that i have, i have tried everything to try and fix them, flashed every radio and rom with no success, and tried changing every setting on the phone. id be so grateful to get any of these fixed.
1) latest version of Swype (v2.0) with skin crashes frequently, i am able to use the keyboard but no text is entered, to solve this i must switch back to the full keyboard and then back to Swype
2) opera says a download is completed, when the file is launched it is for example 300kbs and will not launch, when i download the same file again the file is downloaded and is for example 8mb, the file then opens. Double click to zoom also doesn't work for me on certain websites, for example BBC
3) there is NO solution to this, i have looked high and low for this, my internet connection disconnects very frequently, i have tried every single option to no avail, the internet disconnects very frequently if HSDPA is enabled (supported by my payment plan) and fairly often if disabled. put simply, this makes internet browsing a royal pain in the backside
4) after reading so many good things about the battery life of the phone i convinced myself it must have been a bad battery. bought a second official one - not cheap, even worse. 15 minutes of web use with all data services disabled in a strong reception area will drain roughly 20% of the battery, have tried all sorts of power management cabs and tweaks. ive drained the battery and charged it fully going on 8 times now.
5) a calendar appointment is created which lasts the whole day (a birthday), no reminder is set, so i dont appreciate it when i get reminded at 12o'clock at night when im sleeping
6) the weather is set to download every 3 hours, so why does it download every 20 mins?
im not complaining guys, honestly this is the best phone ive ever had and i recomment it to everyone, but some of the issues i have truly are annoying. id greatly appreciate ANY help in regards to any of the issues above
thanks

1 - i had trouble with the latest swype (the pale grey one? silvery coloured?) i went back to the dark one, it was unuseable (cant seem to find out how to bring up its version number, , the cab just says swype.cab, , , heh. So i'd say try get an earlier version, Mine works lovely.
2 - move the opera cache to the sd card, and clean it now n again. I have a lot of that kind of trouble with podcasts from bbc, 15 meg or so, , seems to help with the cache on sd.
3 - dont really know about the network details. sorry.
4 - i DO know that if you live on teh edge of the decent signal area, your phone jumping between 3g/hsdpa and edge/gprs will eat your battery. find comm manager and switch off the 3g button (if you have one) when you dont need fast access, can vastly improve battery, and email and other syncs dont need 3g most of teh time, only browsing.
5 - thats probably outlook adding the default "the day before" reminder, (or maybe the htc one works the same as the outlook one) either way, you have to manuall edit the appointment to set the reminder to no reminder.
6 - it will download if you linger on the weather tab for a second or so when swiping. Gives the impression that it is always updating.
Hope some of them at least help!
sam

thanks for the fast reply, not the first time too
1) ok ill uninstall swype and install the older one, hope this gets fixed as i prefer this layout
2) thanks - i have moved the opera cache to the sd card
3) my operator is tmobile uk, HSDPA is supported and so is 3g, i have unlimited data plan, the connection will drop after a couple mins, normally less, if HSDPA is disabled, the connection is slower but more stable, but in the end, the connection will drop
4) ive disabled HSDPA because atm its unusable, i do indeed have that 3g button and is always off, my connection is always on G, still 20% battery loss after 15 mins surfing
5) i mentioned that i set it to no reminder, what do you mean?
6) that makes sense - thanks
if you have any ideas how to solve number 3 id really appreciate it

I had the same issue with Virgin UK (uses Tmobile as you are aware) I flashed to 1.66 rom and my problems went away - battery life as much better also, hope it helps

thanks for your reply
i have also flashed to official 1.66 rom, the problem didnt change at all
i even tried different radios with this rom
any other ideas?
thanks

backup before you do the swype change, if you use a lock password, i believe some version of swype can affect that? (i dont use one so i wouldn't know, there are threads on it)
about outlook and the reminder thing, i'm not really sure of the details, but i've been syncing the same set of contacts and calendar with outlook for probably 6 or 7 years, and several times ive come across a situation where you set up an app, or event or something, and set no reminder, and it goes off at midnight the day before - the setting is actually 'one day' and the day starts at midnight, d'oh.
How it comes to be that it doesn't get saved i haven't pinned down, but it generally seems to be after a hard reset/complete wipe and resync. It often (not always) also creates duplicate birthday reminders.
This has happened to me from office 2000 right through to 2k7, and on different phone OS's, and different sync programs but it doesnt happen all the time.
(bit non specific, sorry)

it sounds to me like an outlook related problem, but i dont use outlook at all to sync anything to my phone
i still dont have a clue why i cant double click to zoom on certain websites, bbc is the one i look at the most its very annoying

Yea i hate the no double click on bbc site . Must be something about how its constructed i guess. , , cuts coming next year, it'l fall appart....

Your battery should not behave like this and you should stop draining and charging the battery because you will ruin it and I suspect that you may have already done damage.
The batteries need a good few weeks of use to reach their max usable capacity and to achieve this charge it as often as you can for as long as you can. Nothing more, nothing less. No draining, cycling, conditioning of any sort. Just use it and keep it on charge.
I have mine on charge always at home and in the car and I have never got below 40% during the day and I'm a heavy user of the internet.
I have two backup power packs and have needed them only once when I was away for two days and couldn't easily charge.

thanks for your reply, i will do this for the battery, ill report back if it helps
thanks

anyone have a clue?
thanks in advance

I experience the same problem (frequent loss of internet connection). I then shut down data connection and immediately re-enable it to turn it back on. This works, but it's annoying and a definite let-down for any smartphone, especially our powerful HD2.
I can't believe nobody has a solution for this. Apparently not even HTC does.
Anyone???

im glad im not alone, there are many many people with the same issues, whoever finds a fix is a saint!

My battery seems fine since i dropped a radio version and can now lost 3+ days with a lot of use and everything downloading automatic.
there are only two things that annoy me, slow/ lag when texting on the keypad and finally the random ghost typing

could you mention what operator youre using and where youre located?
perhaps your radio would be suitable for mine too

Make sure your birthday reminders are set to "none" and not "0 minutes".
I had this problem with birthdays also. They seemed to revert back to 0 mins when i flashed my phone and re-synced my contacts wo had to go through them and set from 0 min to none. Pain in the neck but better than being woken up at midnight!

I contacted the HTC customer service via their website and this is the reply I got from them:
This could be a driver conflict and we recommend to try a hard reset on it make sure that you back up all your data before the reset. If the problem still going on after this then contact us in this line +44 8458900079 and we will send your device to be repaired.
Does this make any sense? It almost seems to good to be true. My phone is fresh out of the box, been using it for about two weeks now with a standard 1.66 ROM. The data disconnect problem has been there since day one. I kinda feel like they recommend a hard reset no matter what the problem is
Anyway, I've read about other people having the same problem as cgrec92 and I but... is this an universal problem or are there lost of users out there who have no data connection problem?

that's really useful information thanks for posting that ill definitely keep in mind that i can send it off to get repaired, although keep in mind most people who have done this say nothing changes, from all I've read, tmobile customers are the most affected, i have done hard resets before but they em nothing, I'm going to try mtty to completely format the phone, maybe its something left over from the tmobile stock rom? anyways ill try that and report back

By the way: I'm on 3 network in Denmark.

i have used mtty and flashed artemis 5.0 with radio 2.06 as the rom recommends
have had some connection dropouts still although less common
what i have found though is that in connection setup, right click and click on update database, equip the new settings
not minimizing opera seems to keep the internet from dropping out too

Battery/ Standby problems since a few days

Hi all
I expirence a strange problem I can't really explain to my self.
For two weeks now my XDA looses battery quiet rapid. I goes from 100% downto 25% in a matter of 8 hours... this hasn't been the case before.
I tried to do a hardreset and this fixed the problem for a new days, now it appeared again.
The standby problem is only when the phone is turn on, but I do have good network coverage, so the phone is not always searching or something. I don't have GPRS connected, no bluetooth or something and didn't install new software, there are no additional tasks running in the background.
Actually I would like to wait for a german 1.72 ROM before a upgrade the nexttime ( current is 1.60 )
Does anybody has an idea ????
Help is greatly appreciated !!!!
Alex
Hi Alex,
i have experienced the same problem since several weeks.
I have made a hardreset, Firmware update to the actual o2 Version (1.66.01GER, 1.10.00 Radio), and so on without a better result.
I suppose that it could depend on the o2 Network.
Two weeks ago on vacation in foreign networks the standby time was o.k.
The o2 Hotline has no information about this phenomenon until now.
Regards
Markus
Arrgh ****...
I was in a "foreign" country for nine months... just when I came back it started...
It seems fixed after a hardreset for a day or so, then it starts again...
I tried this new ROM, it's simply horrible, was totaly unstable, I switch back to 1.60.
I also thought I could be related to the network... this would not be good.
I am here in the office on the boarder of my homezone, someday I have homezone, some not... (shouldn't be the case either )
But my other mobile also behaves strange, it switches ( with homezone indicator on !!! ) to t-mobile... even I have a strong O2 signal...
I think it's time to write a mail to customer support...
Alex
Bah... is a fantastic PDA, but I must charge the battery every 2 days...
I think is normal...
I had to recharge very second day... that's normal if you use your pda...
but we are talking about 8hours and less without using it !!!

Try switching on flight mode and see if it is better.
One thing I learned but not sure if it is scientific: don't xray scan your phone/pda when passing customs. My Siemems phone started behaving cranky when it gets scanned.
Lastly, if still as bad, suggest you send in to check it up. Hope just some problem with the battery.
Thanks.. but as I have allready written... when I turn flight mode on (same as turn the phone off) the battery is OK.
It has definitvely something to do with the radio.
The phone didn't get xrayed for a while now
Interference
It doesn't have to be an X-Ray machine Bro. Any form of frequency interference can screw your Xda's radio - but usually it will get back to normal after awhile (days) unless it is subjected to severe exposures.
What you can try to do is to goto Start-Settings-Personal-Phone-Network.
From Preferred Networks hit Set Networks - reprioritize.
Then under Network Selection change to Manual once the Xda gets hold of a signal switch back to Automatic.
Lastly check if your Broadcast Channels is enabled - disable it.
Worked for me after hours in the OR once - oops!

I have the very same problem for a few weeks now. Some more observations:
- power goes down at a rate of 1% every 12 minutes
- happens only with an O2 SIM. If I put in a D2 SIM, everything is fine
- happens with every O2 SIM - I tried three so far
- my O2 SIM works nicely in a friend's Himalaya
- bought a new battery - didn't help
- putting it right next to a speaker (so that you can hear all network activity) shows that there is not more activity than normal.
- problem is present with both 1.60ger and 1.66ger O2 firmware, with no software installed (i.e., directly after a hard reset)
I would be grateful for any tips or hints how to solve this! Also, if someone else experiences the same problem, please post here. Maybe it's a hardware problem, and the more people experience it, the easier it'll be to convince T-Mobile/O2 that there's a real problem.
Cheers
Daniel
News on this issue: I just flashed the Imate 1.72 ROM version, and at the moment it seems this resolved the problem. The 1.72 has a newer Radio ROM (version 1.14 rather than 1.10) than all 1.6x versions, so this could make the difference.
However, it is also possible that the effect is only temporarily gone, due to not having configured GPRS, SMS, whatnot for the O2 network yet, so it is too early to start partying...
And, of course, the OS is now English rather than German.
I will now leave my Himalaya alone for another few hours, just to confirm the problem is currently really gone, then I will start configuring it back to O2 settings, and add back all my software. This will take some time, as I want to check for the problem between all steps, and each check takes around one hour.
So, to all who suffer from the same problem: I suggest you wait a few more days before you upgrade. After I have finished my testing, I will post here again the results.
Let's hope 1.72 really does the trick!
Cheers
Daniel
More news: I am now pretty sure that (again) the Homezone application is at fault!
The battery drain we experience roughly matches the power consumption of the CPU when not in a sleep mode. So, it seems the Homezone application prevents the CPU to go to sleep mode.
Why that used to work, and only started happening some weeks ago, I don't know. My guess is that O2 slightly changed the way they broadcast the location info. That location info is sent every few seconds via Cell Broadcast on channel 221, and as the Homezone application has to read that, it's quite plausible that it gets woken up every few seconds (whenever a new broadcast arrives).
What surprises me, though, is that there seem to be relatively few XDA II owners on O2 who experience the problem. I will send an email to O2 support and ask them.
In the meantime, to correct the problem, uninstall the Homezone application. To do so, do the following:
- deactivate the Homezone display, using the "Homezone" program
- using the file manager of your choice, go to the Windows directory, find the file "OHZ.dll", and rename it to whatever you like. This step is important!
- soft reset your XDA II
- go to "Einstellungen" -> "System" -> "Programme entfernen", and remove the program called "V2R Homezone"
- with your file manager, go to the Windows directory again and remove the renamed OHZ.dll file. If there is still a directory called "Windows\V2R\HZ", remove that also.
Of course, you lose the Homezone display. But you get full battery life back!
Cheers
Daniel
Okay, I'm trying to find out why not everybody on the German O2 network is affected.
Alex and Markus: I opened a thread for this over in the PPC-Welt forum, see here.
You are invited to come over and participate! If you are not interested, could you please let me know where exactly you are located? I live in Munich, and it might be that O2 misconfigured just a few base stations here in the south of Germany so that the Homezone application behaves erratically.
Thanks!
Daniel
Hi Tazido
Fu#$%^&*( is it really because it move to munich... arrgh.
I do live in Starnberg, but I spend the weekend in Ludwigshafen and here everything was OK.

As mentioned in a post in that other forum, everybody who is affected should call the O2 hotline and report this as a "network problem", to raise O2's awareness of the situation.
For the moiment, uninstalling the Homezone app is the best you can do. :-(
Cheers
Daniel
I did uninstall the O2 Homezone app.
I tried to mail to O2 but this seems not to work for some reason, I get a 403 error.
About calling the hotline, I have to pay for this, as I switch to the web-based contract with the free SMS, so as long as i doesn't get worse I can live...

Clock slow sometimes

Has anyone had problems with the clock, it sometimes seems to be lagging behind. Any solutions?
Regards
- SKBG
I have... and no solutions as yet except for soft reset.
The lag ranges between 20-30mins...
However, I've noted that the "problem" sometimes happens after I sync with my Mac. But since it happens only "sometimes", its a real pain to troubleshoot.
Yes, I have the problem too. But after a while, the time will automatically sync-up again. It is just pretty annoying.. Some times I got shocked when I look at the time.. haha..
Yep 20-30 min.
There's couple of noted reasons in other posts
- one, could be the ActiveSync
- again this could be due to system clock sync or outlook-exchange sync
- two, could be the Quick-GPS download, not sure of this though
So far only one solution seems to fix it to some extent, i.e. checking the automatically sync time with network in the Phone-settings, have to wait and see. Anyway, it atleast confirms the problem is with the s/w not the h/w
Thanks for the responses
Hi
Started noticing the same problem, sometimes it can be upto 30 minutes behind. Is this a TouchFlo bug displaying the time?
I do have the setting to sync with the phone network set and still doing it.
HTC need to get this fixed
Regards
Phil
I get this myself too, i think its something to do with outlook, becuase usually when i recieve new mail the clock is corrected
are there any apps for WM6.1 that sync your time to the atomic clock servers?
actually dont worry about it, i was reading some other threads on the clock problem and have downloaded gTimeSync, i'll see how it works out
I got that the other day. My watch said 6:01am, my Topaz said 5:45am....But when I looked at 7:30am, they were both the same. In that time, I had not connected it to anything, but I had turned the phone function on at 7am.

suddenly rebooting several times...

hi all,
i have my TD2 now for some months and it already happened several times that it reboots automatically. Not just once, but several times in a row and after 4, 5 or more reboots it comes to the screen to input the pin...
I do not know how this is triggered but it is very annoying!
I use WM6.5 and some user programs like TD2 Tools (2d), MobiReg, NaviComputer, KeePass, Free42 Decimal,...
The TD2 Tools info screen gives: ROM 2.16.404., Manila 2.1.19193517.2, OS Kernel version 5.2.21869
Is this problem known to anybody? Looking forward to your advice!
Not sure what the cause could be but a hard reset mey be the only fix.
Hi,
After 13 months, I'm now getting this spontaneous rebooting for about 4 times on the trot. It can happen mid-call or just whilst it's sat syncing with my PC. The reboot always seems to happen about 10 seconds after Sense has started.
I am on Stock WWE HTC 2.53 and Radio as per below. I haven't changed anything recently but this started happening yesterday. I did think it was connected with my SD card but I've swapped it for another good one of different capacity and no go either.
I have also tried a hard reset. This didn't fix it either as the rebooting started again after about 10 mins. All I had done was reached setting up a partnership and syncing.
I'm worried that my hardware may be damaged, though I don't understand how.
Really worried now.
John
PS My Diamond2 has just rebooted 4 times whilst I type this and it's connected via USB.

I'd have to say that if you've hard reset and are on stock ROM, it would definitely indicate a hardware issue, as if something was triggering the soft reset button. Has the device gotten wet or anything?
Thanks for the reply. No not got wet or anything out of the ordinary. It started just last night whilst it had been sat for about 6 hours plugged into the HTC mains charger.
Looking at it more closely, it seems to happen 5 seconds after the data connection comes up. I guess Sense is checking the weather.
It has done 10 reboots now consecutively but every now and then it just seems to behave. This morning it was fine whilst I was out but it has been having rebooting episodes ever since I go home.
Oh well, I'll wait and see for a while and then panic. No money and the warranty won't be much use after a year........ Hmmmmm going to find the paperwork to check what the warranty actually is.

Try removing your cities in your weather tab and maybe play with your network settings in Phone\Menu\Band
Amazing! I was just about to post that switching to GSM only had stopped the rebooting.
This could only be temporary as I use a lot of HSDPA speed data. I decided to reflash the radio and now it seems fine on 3G. I'll keep an eye on it and report back in 24 hours.
I was thinking back to yesterday. There was a time when the wall charger was unplugged from the wall socket before removing the usb connector from my phone. Could that have caused a spike?
Thanks Bruce for taking an interest and the helpful advice.
Cheers
John
PS Cautiously happy now

It is possible but likely that caused a spike. Shouldn't matter which gets plugged in first, USB or charger.
Hopefully the issue is gone now.
Good luck.
Well, sadly, I spoke too soon.
It was fine all last evening with no reboots and frequent use on 3G.
This morning, after a sitting on standby for 9 hours, it started rebooting as soon as I turned it on to check email. Of course this was where it started downloading the weather as well as email etc.
The switch to GSM stopped it rebooting again, so I now need to confirm this is stable over time and then try further combinations of weather on/off and or older radios. Basically, I'll try anything as I have no choice right now and need the phone, email, web and satnav combination.
My wife has offered to sacrifice her shiny new Blackberry but she has finally joined the mobile email/web brigade and I don't want her to go back to a plain GSM phone. Plus, all my windows software would be written off before I'm ready to do that.
I'll report back if the situation improves although I think it's not going to get any better.
John
Just an update in case it helps anyone else.
On GSM with GPRS data I have had no reboots but shortly after switching to 3G, I end up in the reboot loop.
I have tried new ROM, new radio ROM and new T-Mobile settings. Still the same.
I shall now wait out my contract using GSM until December, at least I can use WiFi at home. I'll then change to something new........ Android, WP7 or even Blackberry!
Thanks for the help. 10ish years of MS pda's have been fun and I've enjoyed playing with ROMs and software but maybe it's time to switch.
John
So, you've flashed back to your stock ROM and with nothing else installed, the rebooting still occurs? Is the stcok ROM pulled from HTC via your S/N?
Progress????
Hi Bruce,
Yes, I have downloaded and tried the original 6.5 ROM and Radio from T-Mobile with the same rebooting problem. Furthermore, I tried some other ROMs before reverting back to the HTC 2.53 WWE - all with the rebooting problem on 3G.
HOWEVER, in doing all this, I noticed it rebooted specifically when the weather connected and downloaded an update. This would happen either manually or automatically.
I have now found that turning Weather updates to manual stops the rebooting UNLESS I actually do a manual update and then it will reboot.
Now, for completeness, I have reverted to the T-Mo 6.5 ROM again and proven that the reboot occurs when the weather is updated either automatically or manually.
This is so confusing as I am effectively replacing ALL the software with a new ROM and Radio but this problem now starts to feel like it is software. Does the weather update do something special on 3G? Something that browsing, Google Maps, email, stocks etc doe not do?
Well, at least I now have 3G...... just no Weather............. SOOOO confusing.
Thanks
John
That is strange. Weather would use the same connection type, just hits a different server.
Also, a typical weather error would only cause Manila to restart or fail to load, not the phone itself.
Flashing the stock ROM would initiate an MTTY Task 29 command that would wipe your flash drive eliminating the possiblility of reminence of a previous flash.
This has me baffled as well.
I found a couple of posts from other devices and it appears to be caused by a bad chip...
In my opinion this could be 'the beginning of the end' of the radio chip. My old Mio A701 did almost the same (not reboot but sometimes freeze) and finally it did not recognized any network and any sim-card; several ROMs tested.
Now it stays in my old car for GPS functions.
But maybe you are more lucky than me...

I've found similar on the Desire and HD2 forums too and was wondering if it could be related.
I'm still fine on 3G with no Weather refresh but checked this morning before going out, that actually performing a refresh did still cause a reboot.... and it did.
On arriving at my destination, 20 miles away, I tried the same refresh and it was fine.
At this point, I was starting to think it may be related to location services and my D2 is checking on it's whereabouts (with cell towers, etc) before downloading the local weather.
Interestingly, my home village, where ALL reboots have happened, does have much stronger signal now due to a very recent new cell tower. It was always 3G but now I get all bars all the time and higher bandwidth.
Now just come home, retested and it's fine! Auto Weather updates on 3G, Google Maps, etc...........
I'll keep a watch and let you know what happens next, I'm sure it's only a temporary respite!
Thanks again
John
Almost same problem with mine diamond2. Only most rarely. Sometimes it reboots once in week, sometimes once a day. I couldn't find any situation manually which causes reboot.

I've found similar on the Desire and HD2 forums too and was wondering if it could be related.
I'm still fine on 3G with no Weather refresh but checked this morning before going out, that actually performing a refresh did still cause a reboot.... and it did.

Since this episode of getting my Diamond2 back to working on 3G with no reboots and everything switched back on for downloading the weather etc, it has not rebooted once in 10 days.
I'm very happy that it seems to be behaving properly.
Anyway, just a quick update from a now happy again D2 user.
Cheers

Strange phone issues with Samsung Galaxy S

Hi,
I bought a Samsung Galaxy S about a month ago, and have been having odd problems with it since the off. Has anyone else had these sort of symptoms:
1. I occasionally lose my data connection - the icon disappears from the top of the screen and whilst I can still make and recieve calls and text messages, I cannot download anything in any app. The only way I've found to get my data connection back is to reset the phone. This happens maybe a couple of times a week.
2. My WiFi seems to suffer from a similar problem. I can be browsing the web on Wifi, then suddenly I'll not be able to download anything anymore. The wifi icon is still visible, but I'll basically be unable to download anything until I switch the wifi off and back on again. Then, it starts working as normal again.
In both these above scenarios, I think I've narrowed it down to primarily happening after I use the Android Market, but it's difficult to tell as it's very intermittent.
3. A couple of times since getting the phone, I've been unable to make or receive any calls. Even switching the phone off and back on didn't help - my signal bar was showing I had a signal and my data connection was still active. Couldn't tell if this was a network problem or not though as there weren't any people nearby on the same network as me. After a while, it started working normally again.
4. The email client randomly lost all of my email settings. One day I was receiving all my emails, the next day I had no email accounts set up at all.
5. I installed Sensor Dump and Phone Explorer to see what data was coming in from the sensors, and have noticed that the light sensor never sends any data. Is this normal?
I also have the usual slow-down issues, etc, but the above have got me stumped as I can't find anyone else reporting the same issues. When I first got the phone, I went crazy installing a load of Android apps, so initially I blamed the software I'd installed. After a reset and being a bit more selective with the apps I install and use, I'm still getting the same issues. I just can't pin down whether this is a faulty phone that I should return, or if there are software issues either relating to the way I'm using the phone or just with bugs in the firmware.
Has anyone else had anything like the above happen with their Galaxy S?
Thanks,
Chris.
I've experienced no.2 several times, wifi just stopping all data traffic. Not found out what causes it though.
As for the other problems, I haven't experienced any of those. Do you use automatic brightness on the display? If not, problem no. 5 might be caused by the sensor being turned off.
thanks for the reply - at least I'm not completely alone!
I have the automatic brightness turned on - which is why it seems odd. To be honest, I've never actually see the auto brightness do anything. It always seems to be the same brightness to me.
Cheers,
Chris.

I think it might be normal that older mails disappear from the inbox after some time? My problem was that everything went. I had three email accounts set up, all downloading emails every hour. Then, one day I went into the email app and there were no accounts at all! I had to set it all up from scratch again.
I hear there are better email apps available for Android, so I'll probably switch to one of those soon.

Hi,
I bought a Galaxy S on Orange UK in July. I'm having the same problem as 1. quite consistenly now.
I thought it might be related to the green power battery saver app I had installed, but i've removed this and still having the problem.
I'm using the phone in several central London locations so I think it's unlikely to be a problem with the data network.
Any suggestion would be welcome since I'm often without data.
Thanks
Nik
ive 1 and 3 but very rarely so far
rebooting fixes it for me
running froyo jp3
for email i use K9, it's almost the same as the integrated mail, only much better (PUSH imap)

I'm actually getting this happen a lot now. It seems to be getting worse, which makes me think it might be a hardware fault. I generally lose my data connection once or twice a day minimum, but some days the phone is virtually unusable.
I have found that it's more likely to happen after using Wi-Fi, so my other thought is that when coming out of Wireless mode, the phone may not switch the normal 3G/HSDPA data connection back on. Most of the time I can fix this by putting the phone into flight mode and then back out, but sometimes it needs a complete reset.
The other problem I've noted with the data connection is that sometimes it seems to rapidly switch between HSDPA and 3G - the data icon at the top of the screen keeps going from '3G' to 'H' then back again. I guess it has something to do with signal quality but it only seems to happen when the phone is showing a good signal strength (four bars). The problem I've found when this happens is that it virtually locks up any ongoing data transfers, making it impossible to download a webpage or check my emails. Strangely the only way I've really found to stop this happening is to move somewhere where my signal strength is weaker, such as indoors, which then seems to make the phone stop attempting to use HSDPA. I can't find a way to switch off HSDPA from within the phone's settings while leaving 3G on.
I really am now finding that using this phone is an increasingly frustrating experience. I've found even more weird faults, such as sometimes my text conversations show the wrong people's names up against them, and then my replies go to the wrong people. It's like an insane, shiny mess of a phone!

I am indeed experiencing same problems above..it just drive me crazy with a need of complete reset everyday..
turning on n off flight mode won't change anything..
I really hope someone can bring a miracle to solve this problem..
I'm on XXJPC
setting the APN parameter(Setting-->Wireless and network-->Mobile Networks-->Access Point Names-->New APN) to 2G only seems to solve the 'lost data connection' problem..
I am connected 24/7 now..
Give a try guys!

Phone getting less reliable with time - Just me?

Just a general question, but as time goes on and more updates / firmwares are released is anyone else finding their phone becoming more and more un-usable?
When I first had mine back in November last year it was perfect... no problems at all.
It's slowly got worse and worse to the point where I now have the following problems...
1) Data connection randomly drops needing a soft-reset. (yesterday I had to reset my phone around 5 times - stupidly annoying)
2) In dark condtions photos randomly turn out with coloured horizontal lines across them
3) Battery meter messes itself up after a soft-reset (combined with the need to keep resetting my phone due to the data connection this is massively annoying)
4) My bluetooth used to work fine - Now it will only work reliably if WiFi is turned off.
5) Volume is stupidly quiet now when playing music through an Aux Input.
6) After a soft-reset sometimes the phone just hangs with a black screen showing the battery meter - battery pull then required.
This is just off the top of my head at the moment. I never used to have problems like this. It seems every time I get an updated firmware I get new problems.
I've tried a hard-reset and this hasn't helped.
I love the WP7 software but this phone is beginning to drive me mad, such a shame since hardware wise it is great. I know i'm not alone with feeling Samsung have an ability to mess up the software side of things. Sadly I guess this means I'll look to Nokia next year when I can upgrade.
It's not just you. I wish more people complained to Samsung though, so that maybe we could see some improvement.
Not very helpful but no problems with mine on Orange UK.

Nah, It's good to know there are some of us out there with functioning models
Also nice to know you're on Orange UK as i've been offered a warranty replacement for this data connection issue I hadn't yet taken up as i believe it to be software related.
If you're running the latest release of the OS then it may be worth giving it a go.

This NEVER worked. It's bloody pathetic.
Oooh it's like a game. I had a new problem yesterday. Related to my battery meter woes.
Phone had at least 60% charge, it started to think it had none so wouldn't boot up. Just got stuck in a loop of boot up - instantly power off.
I also had problems with WiFi after mango update but after soft reset everything is working fine except sometimes I can`t connect to an open WiFi network.
Anyone noticed the same problem?

Same for me on this one. I'm on my second Omnia 7, which is about to get sent away to be told it's not fixable and be replaced so I'll be on my third phone
Going to get rid of it as soon as possible and get a Lumia 800.
same here...
Im with T-Mobile UK and i have found the same issue...never thought about it until I read your post though.
I too am finding myself resetting my phone more and more often...also another thing I have found is that it doesn't recognise when to switch to WiFi sometimes instead of 3G...i.e. when 3G is non-existent...very annoying I have to go and turn off the data connection to get it work properly...
i've just made some volume changes and I think it has helped with the headphones although it still isn't great...
I however am scared to return the phone as I dropped it in water and got it out very quickly...so it may have triggered the water seal thingy
Im not due an upgrade until Oct 2012....so I might have to just wait it out :s
I'm having trouble too with a 3 Mobile UK, unbranded latest firmware Omnia7.
Little bit temperamental on rare occasions. Like Freypal data doesn't always want to connect and sometimes it is randomly freezing or only showing the topbar with the battery. Need to pull out the battery to sort it.
On a side note, not connecting to WiFi when in a locked state is really annoying. Have to manually check for emails, WhatsApp etc.
No problems at all for me, only problem i have is Podcaast Pro app is likly to craash now and then, but its the devs fault.
Im having a unlocked, German Omnia 7, 16GB version, flashed to the only local ROM in Sweden from 3 and used with the same operator, and its been great ever since. My problem nowadays is i drop my phone often so when the battery falls out i have to restart, coming from 2-3 Omnia 7 its a lovly life to have it functioning normal, great phone.
Well, im a happy camper, but i noticed Omnia 7 generally working worse over time, mostly the first month is the time frame to discover problems, and if you flash a new rom, this can be the case again, one new month before you feel like tearing our hair, and it´s only connectivity issuess. Changing carrier and ROM fixed everything for me, so no matter how great, the carrier do matter in the choise of a Omnia 7, even if you think you fixed it. Dont know if it appy to you guys, but another Omnia 7 working incridble great here. Glossnas update and all, and it cant be found anymore so...im happy, hope you guys get to be that also.
I'm now on my second Omnia after a warranty replacement for the data connection problem.
New phone -
1) It still loses the data connection, although much less frequently than before.
2) Dark photos i think are now working properly
3) Battery meter still messes up. Must be a fault with the battery itself.
4) Touch wood - Bluetooth now seems ok ...
5) Haven't tried auxiliary volume yet
6) Haven't had a problem with it just displaying the status bar after a soft reset, however if the battery is out for any period of time and i boot the phone up. On the first boot data won't work. I need to soft reset it once for it to initiate.
So in summary - New phone, some old problems fixed. Some new ones. Some the same.
