Dutty´s Holy Grail Rom Active Sync problem [solved] - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM Development

Hi there,
I've got a problem with Active Sync.
I'm using Dutty's Holy grail rom (wich is great!) , with HSPL and radio 2.07.
All works fine (except the data connection loss most of us experience, so I've read), but it's the second time now that Active Sync can't seem to find my phone. It's says Acitve Sync is unable to connect with the Windows Mobile device.
First time I had to hard reset my phone and it worked again. I'm hoping there is an other way to get my phone connected again with active sync, without a hard reset of my phone, since I've done lots of reg changes and installed lots of programs...
I've re-installed Active Sync, but that wasn't a solution.
Can someone help me please?
Thanx!

Next time please just post in myt hread. Regarding activesync which windows are u running on ur PC. I saw this once on the holy grail series but I'm using WINDOWS 7 just installed, I could just traced it down with wifi enabled when connecting through activesync and when I turn off wifi it works. So im still not sure it its a rom bug or a windows 7 bug or something else

He Duttythroy,
thanx for your quick responce! Sorry I posted a new thread, but I was afraid if I posted my problem in your thread not many people would read it and I wouldn't get any responce... I'm really hoping the problem can be solved without performing a hard reset...
I'm still using windows XP SP3. I haven't had any problems with my Tytn II and active sync. It started with the HD2, unfortunatelly with your rom. Perhaps any other rom would give me the same problem, but I haven't tried that because I like your rom's.
I'm also using the latest version of Act. Sync, 4.5 if I'm not wrong.
I don't have WIFI on my pc, so I can't check if it will work that way, I'm also lacking blue tooth.

.

I am using german stock rom 1.48 and had this problem twice. I had to hard reset ervery time.
Sometimes, when I connect with the PC the HD2 freezes and I have to soft reset.

I'm also on XP SP3 and get similar problems but most of the time it's just that the sync is super slow... seems that phone is busy doing something... seems to occassionally do that after a while and really slows down... going to try going to the latest HTC ROM...

haven't had any problems with several roms (also Dutty's HG) and windows 7

Attention: Crisis Situation

hi forum...
I have an imate JJ & have been using it for 3 months now..
all of a sudden it refuses to synchronize with my laptop.
I tried the following but didn't wrk:
1) deleting the existing partnership.
2) uninstalling & reinstalling activesync.
3) tried installing both activesyncs( the one which came along in the cd & the one we have on our ftp).
4) hard resetted my device.
none of the above have solved the problem. my pc does recognize the ppc as a lan connection as it should. the activesync green icon in the taskbar also goes green && starts rotating, but it just keeps saying "Connecting" but never actually connects..
Please Help Me..
Thanx,

Hey,
Pune huh? Which part of Pune? I used to stay in Wanowrie Was a student at BVP Medical University.
Anyhoo, when you reinstall AS, make sure its on a drive different from the original install. Also make sure your firewall's are disabled (even the native SP2 firewall).
Hopefully, it should sync properly now. Let us know if it doesn't and we'll help you sort it out
Cheers.
Did you clear the notifications or something? If you used pocket mechanic or the like and delete one of them AS don't (& won't) work until you HR again, afaik.
Joe
that is correct. you can verify it by manually starting repllog on the PDA while ActiveSync tries to connect

I screwed up my AS on my JasJar doing some foolish & ignorant cleaning with ScareyBear's CheckNotifications, but was able to re-enable AS using this tool (no hard reset needed)!

hi u guys...
I tried syncing after disabling the firewall of XP SP2 but it didn't help...
what else can be done?
Syncing through bluetooth is not an option as my laptop has a builtin bt with toshiba drivers which doesn't allow me to sync. && i'd rather not overwrite the toshiba stack with the widcomm... don't wanna add a prob to my laptop to remove one from my ppc...
is there any foolproof way of getting back at syncing thru usb?
pls help

I solved the problem by connecting ppc to a laptop usb, then connected back to my main macine and bingo

Guys...
Activesync still not happening...
Pls help
When I got this problem, it was due to synchronising something it didnt want to sync, namely favourites and web pages. Try changing your sync settings to say just contacts, then just calendar, then just tasks etc... and work down the list until you identify the problem.
I would guess its your favourites.
let me know, and we will commence a fact find and test process for alternatives 1 by 1.
Activesync problem
Open Activsync but Don't turn your XDA EXEC on before you plug in the USB. Let acivsync turn the device on then give it a minute to find the changes. Hope this helps.

I sync via bluetooth since i had those problems as well, and NO problems since then. Moreover, using BT is much much faster, at least for me.
recommend.
gotta love it when you try to help, offer multiple suggestions to some dude pleading for assistance multiple times, then get zero feedback as to the effectiveness of the fix (s) offered.

Sorry for the late reply dude...
I tried all possible solutions including your last given solution of trying to remove favorites... The problem is that On a fresh install of activesync, it doesnt even take me t the window where i choose my syncing options. It just keeps going green & round & says connecting. I manually tried to go to options through the menubar but everything except help is grey(disabled).
As for alnwick's suggestion.. I always have been doing that. Even on my Himalaya when i had Magneto, i used to switch off the device & let activesync wake it up.. It always helped but not in this condition... Dunno why... Its really sad that two M$ OS have so muchanimosity between em...
Is there any other solution that strikes u guys?
Hey Simon.. Really sorry buddy... I do appreciate all your guys help ALOTTTT... only problem is that my work hasnt been allowing me to be regular for last couple of days...

Hi,
I have the same problem with my Exec too. However it doesn't happen so often. Probably once in every 10 successful sync. I always managed to fix it using the "old-fashion" manner.
1. Unplug your USB from your Exec
2. Reset your computer
3. Plug it in again once your computer has finish booting the OS.
It is pretty basic and I guess that you have already tried it yet. It works for me all the time when I do so. Sometimes I wonder whether could it be the USB connector on the Exec that is faulty or my computer USB port or the cable.
Hope your Exec will be up and running properly again.
Regards,
Johnnie

Hey Johnnie...
Thanx alot for the suggestion buddy.. Unfortunately, i tried that long time ago... Also, in my case atleast it cannot be the h/w (USB Connectors on ppc or pc or the cable) as i used to sync absolutely fine with 100% hitrate. Infact, every time u have a problem try this buddy :
1) Go to task manager of ur ppc & turn off everything.
2) Switch off ur exec.
3) Attach cable & allow the activesync to wake up your device.
It might increase your hitrate.
For all the other kind souls here...
I am attaching a snapshot of how my activesync window looks while it is trying to connect.
Thanx All

When I make a reset with the reset button, it works again for some time.

ActiveStink issues

I have a Wizard (branded XDA Mini S) and my new Hermes/TyTn (XDA Trion) which arrived about an hour ago.
I am trying to port my settings from the Wizard to the new Hermes. I have sync'd my Wizard with this Laptop and have all the programs ready to install. The only problem is that I cannot get the Hermes to sync with this laptop, it keeps identifying it as a Generic RNDIS and ActiveSync (4.1.0) ignores it completely.
Any idea where the problems could lie?
Try upgrading Activesync to 4.5.
Also, if your laptop has Vista on it there may be other problems.

Only other thing I can think is having 'advanced features' turned on/off. You probably know this as a wizard user but try
Start\settings\connections[tab]\USB to PC
Then check\uncheck the enable advanced network functionality
If it's more of a problem than that I can't help - but hope someone else can pick up from here...

For some reason, RAPIMGR seems to have issues and hits 100% on one of the cores on the PC. If I disconnect the phone it carries on running and doesn't pick up on reconnect. If I try to kill it with task manager it wont die (although task manager doesn't complain its protected or anything) so I killed SVCHost (the parent process) which made my computer say the computer will reboot in 1 minute.
Next time I shall try restarting the DCOM service and see if it helps.
Sigh. Thanks for your help anyway.

Magician Activesync problems

I have a MDA Compact (magician) (ignore the signature at the bottom of the page.. this is my spare phone) and for some reason I cannot get active sync on it working..
I plug in the USB cable and the phone will charge.. but thats it. wont connect... i thought that perhaps there was something wrong with the cable, so i connected the phone via bluetooth to the laptop and still activesync wont connect..
The phone is runing windows mobile 2003 second edition Version 4.21.1088 (build 15159.2.6.4)
I've cold booted the phone so its clean.. and still nothing. I thought i might have needed to upgrade something on there.. but i havent been able to find anything and also the phone cant connect to activesync to install anything..
Does anyone have any suggestions that might help..
thanks
If you're using ver 4.5 of activesync, drop it and use 4.2 instead, 4.5 has issues with non-WM5 PPCs.
no joy

This maybe a long shot but im suspecting that you may have accidentally deleted repllog.exe, are you using cleaning softwares? anyway try to use SKTools "recreate activesync" function under notifications Queue menu. If all still fails, a hard reset may have to be resorted to.

USB tool keeps disconnecting

Hi all,
I dit the Snapvue upgrade and that was great and all
Now when I connect using USB tool, The WM part keeps connecting and disconnecting. So I cannot sync and cannot copy large files.
It stays connected for les than a minute and then disconnects and then reconnects after a few secconds...
I tried a lot of things. I don´t even remember what. I´ve been working on it for 6HOURS or more.. (Damn is it really almost 15:00 now!?)
I am now resetting my shift to factory defaults (HD Recovery and Clear Storage) and start over...
What I´d like to know:
Has anyone got the same problem? (not the 3g/gprs disconnect issue...)
Has anyone got a solution?
thx,

Yeah I have the same problem.
After a clearstorage I still have the problem, so it has something to do with the Vista side (I think)
I noticed it when I tried to backup my rom. So that is something like 50mb.
Yep,
I have reset en redone my WM side.
The connection is verry stable. Didn´t disconnect once!
So I guess it must be a vista problem.
Next I´ll go and install and customize Vista.
I´ll let you know.

How did You upgrade SnapVUE ?
Is upgraded to new SnapVUE version or other full WM system ?
Solved (sort of)
Finaly,
I got it to work.
I did a ful reset (snapvue clear storage & HD recovery) and started from scratch.
Then I first upgraded Snapvue to Full WM using the Liberate Shift Pack method from:modaco.com
and everything worked fine.
So the problem had to be at the Vista side...
I first installed ALL updates from Windows Update. (First the Update for Windows Update itself...) And everything worked fine.
Yes, also the screen resolution change button and the Shift Control Center.
I then installed SP1
After the reboot I had to uninstall the Shift Control Center en reinstall it.
(After uninstall the setup file is still there: C:\Program Files\HTC\Control\Setup.exe )
And that fixed the Control Center en Res Change stuff.
USB tool however started disconnecting randomly again immediatly.
So I Removed SP1 again and then everything worked fine again.
It seems like nothing when I read it like that but I´ve been at it since 10:00 this morning and it is now 23:20 over here!
I hope my trail and error day saves some of you some time just as some other post have saved me a lot of time.
Conclusion:
Problems with USB Tool disconnecting and SP1 Installed?
Try uninstalling SP1
Use Microsoft patch to solve USB disconnecting?
Isnt the problem that, what is fixed by
MicroSoft HotFix KB934796(USB)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934796
MicroSoft HotFix KB929761(WUSA)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929761
or
MicroSoft HotFix KB936825(SD)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936825
These fixes are installed in preinstalled system (but not automatically by update!).
Ah,... Interesting,
I am a bit reluctant to try, since I just now got my system running nicely...
Can anyone confirm if these actualy work?
So, I guess this problem is not so common....
I looked at the three hotfixes but they do not seem to have anything to do with my problem. And aren't they installed with SP1?
I would really like to upgrade to SP1 but I do NOT want to loose my USB Tool connection.
Sugestions anyone?
(I am not the only one with this problem, am I?)
grtz,
Pfeffa-rah
I ve that problem in vista side with 3g connection. It begins to happen after hibernating. Connection is closed with a BROWSER event ( I can see it with the events viewer) each 1 minute and one second after is restored. No too bad for web browsing but imposible for services that need continues connection. I ve to restart vista and all works again......(until next hibernation)
Dani
Hi,
It seems like the same isue, only, it started disconnecting right after installing SP1. So it didn't first hibernate but right after reboot.
But I can't beleive its just us three......
Everybody else seems to do fine with SP1 and USB Tool......

I planned to install SP1 tomorrow but I start to doubt if this is really a good idea. My Shift is working fine now both in WM and Vista with no connection or hibernate problems at all anymore. Can I remove SP1 without leaving any trace in Vista? If somebody could confirm this than I shall give it a try.
Hi Sonietje,
I did remove SP1, and it restored my USB-Tool connection.
So, I guess you can.
It takes a little less long to remove than it takes to install, but don't wait around and wait for it. Go have a party in the mean time, or travel around the world or something. I didn't time it but I watched most of two TV shows whil it uninstalled! So it is way more than an hour.
Let me know if the USB Tool works after upgrade will you?
Thx,
grtz,
Pfeffa-rah
I'm running the vista SP1. and it's running perfect, no problems with 3g, usbtool or anything so I'm looking forward to hear the results.

What rom version do you have from WM?
Maybe there is some difference..
CE OS 5.2.1620 build 1825.0.4.2
Got the same rom.
I think it might be a WMDC problem.
I had some connection problems with my Kaiser through real USB until I "killed" the procec (in task manager, after exiting the program...)
Then it conected OK, and I could sync again.
So I might give it another try soon

OK, So here I finaly go and try out SP1 again.
Guess What!
It won't install.
When I use Windows Update I get one of those undescriptive error numbers, and the standalone installer, just stays at 99% for about 10 min. and then just exits.... No reboot, no errors, not even a beep.... the window just closes...
I am rather developing a dislike to Vista.

Did you install it by update first time or by standalone installer? Sounds like it hasnt completely removed itself.
First time was stand alone, today was by update first and later standalone.
Update just gives me a 80070057 error.
Any sugestions how to remove it properly then. (It seemed gone since everything worked.)

Poor connectivity after SP1 upgrade

First let me say that many of you that post here are much more technically savvy than I am, so please be gentle.
I upgraded my shift to with SP1 last night, and it seems as if my connection keeps connecting/disconnecting while I am using my sim card connection. The signal seems to constantly be shifting between edge, 3G, and HSDPA. The fact that the signal from the carrier is constantly shifting protocols is not really unusual, but the constant connecting and disconnecting seems to be new (since SP1).
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a known issue? Is there a fix?
Thanks
Dean
Yes. We talked about it in two other threads. I did many things and some of them worked. Try to disable USB port on activesync (WM Side).....

Thank you for the info. I am not able to find where to disable. My WM side is still like it came out of the box BTW.
mm, ok. then you should think about enable full WM and perform that tweak (and many others)

Well, I made the WM modification, and I went into activesync and unchecked the box next to "synchronize all PCs using this connection".
Was this the right place? If so, it didn't fix my issue, but I am not sure if this is what you meant for me to do or not.
Thanks again.
Hi. Yes, that what I meant. Have you disabled same option in Vista side too?

Thank you again.
I looked at Activesync in the CP,and didn't see where to disable it. I did see a couple of assocations there, but I didn't make any changes.
Is this the correct place to look or do I need to look someplace else?
OK... I gave up. I un-installed SP1 and everything (that I use) is back to working normally. I hope I don't have issues when I want to re-install the SP.
I did leave the more opened up version of WM6 in place though.

Grrrr. Don't really want to give up myself but I can't find any solution to this. I also disabled USB connections but still no luck.
After I removed SP1, my connection starting working ok, but I had several other issues, the worst of which that the computer would not connect again after being woke up, and it would lock up on shut down.
I reinstalled the entire operating system... I hated to, but I hadn't installed but a few programs, and I felt now was the best time.
The weird part for me was that my WM6 modification was still in tact. I didn't expect that.

That issue happens to me with and without sp1. Not always, 20% of times. Specially if the device was suspended or hibernated a long time:Sometimes when I resume the system It doesnt connect. Looking at the events viewer It seems there was a problem restoring the usb connection (It hanged) so I cant turn off Vista but Keeping pressed the power button. I hope Microsoft and/or HTC solves that problem soon
I had never had any problems with the 3G/HSDPA copnnectivity until I upgraded to SP1. Weird though, after I upgraded on Monday I restarted and tested (as I knew some of you had had issues) and all was fine. However when I booted up last night I had the connection reset every minute as some of you have reported.
Has anyone who has upgraded to SP1 NOT had these connectivity problems on the VISTA side? Perhaps this would help us work out what is different on these installs....

I haven't got any problem with the connection, all my connection works perfectly before and after i install sp1
I won't be installing SP1 again until I see clear evidence that this issue is resolved.
BTW, after SP1, If I left my Shift sitting on my desk it would never loose connection. But if I used it anywhere else, it would connect and disconnect and eventually quit working. I am talking about the radio connection. I never tried the wifi connection after I installed SP1.
Everything seems to be back to normal now since I did a complete re-install. I am gong to wait as long as it takes before I try SP1 again.

That's interesting you say that. The first day after SP1 it was on my desk and I had no problems. The problems started when I was using it sitting up on my hotel bed moving it around. Then toady I'm in the office, its on my desk and no problems again. Mmmmm not sure how this could make a difference but it is odd. Very odd.
OK, I'm now typing this on the WM side while SP1 uninstalls on the Vista side. Daniel - thanks for your solution, it does seem to work but my OCD won't alow me to accept it until the bug is fixed properly or we can work out why it seemingly affects some users and not others. I will contact HTC tomorrow and see if they are aware.
Have the people who it has not affected liberated their shift?
Have they done something to disable USB connection as has Daniel?
Either way it really annoyed me - the S in SP1 is for sh*t as far as I'm concerned.
I contacted HTC 2 weeks ago asking for a solution but they havent contacted me by now. I think some situation makes NDIS shared usb connnection and an activesync connnection fight for the same usb connection. Some of the actions I exposed befored solved the situation for me. Proobably most of the people wont have the problem beacause They will never connect snapvue with vista (usbtools). Maybe Its a problem for some of the people who converted snapvue on wm6....

Yes that sounds likely. In this case I assume hard resetting WM6 to take it back to SnapVue would solve the problem also.
If anyone has had no problems as we suggest after using uSBtools and/or liberate please post here!
I've never had any of the problems that you've described in this thread... but then I've never installed SP1.
