Ring not working in General Profile - Touch2 General

I have another issue with my HTC TOUCH2 device:While on General Profile from time to time the ring is not working only the vibration. What can be done?

I am having the same problem. I think it has something to do with the volume control, if you set it for different system/ring controls. That or it's the Orange ROM acting up.

same prob here.
HTC just launched a patch for it (or at least I hope it is related with this)
edit: Oh yes, I have the default HTC rom

Patch for ring issue
Dear donSjon ,
I checked with both Orange and HTC Service Desk for EU.The official patches don't affect the devices with modified ROMS as in my case and gmaxx's .You install the patch and just that, no functionality .I understood that developers work in their free time to develop a ROM and HSPL.Strange is that is taking too long,if they unite their knowledge I'm sure that within days all is done.Nobody does thinks for the fun today anymore. If i knew how to do the SPL i would have done it by now.I moded for ex PSPs for free starting first with mine and it saved many people a lot of money. So here is the issue that the patch is no good.

HTC's anwer on updates
Dear all with same problem as mine, below is the off answer form HTC regaridn the updates that shouls solve some of our issues.I checked with Ornage on the site are no updates.:
--------
"as for the Rom upgrade, kindly be informed that the Rom upgrades created by HTC and posted on the HTC website are not compatible to your handset due to customizations made to the software by the network operator you will have to refer back to your network provider for any upgrades."

bummer :-(
I hope the operator releases a patch then...

??New versions *W*M*2*0*0*3*??

Hello,
does anyone know when the final version of W*M*2*0*0*3 will be released? And when it will be available to us? Was it released by Microsoft, yet?
I hope it will solve problems with memory card erasures and missing "More" tab in Phone Settings...
Thank you.
The "missing more tab" is merely missing because one does not need to change bands on 900/1800 phones: US versions will have this tab, I'm sure.
What I am not so sure about is how much pressure from the customers there is to bring WM2003 to this unit, with the XDA II coming and all.
probaly lots of pressure... but no inclination from the relevent(sp?) parties...
As if they would listen to us anyways? I mean we already know how *helpful* O2 are in the 'after care' department so what chance is there of them bringing out a rom?
From my experience of their compilation and testing of previous roms the development department must be VERY under funded as it is.
I think all 3 of them will be working overtime to prepare 2003 for the XDAII and wont really care about those that have already provided their cash...
one glimmer of hope I think is that the XDAII has the same rom size as the XDA... therefore will it be possible to 'borrow' the rom from that and put it in the XDA ? .... or will they take 3 months of their project management to impliment restrictions and locks on the device... (time they could have spent porting it to the XDA)
I'm sure I'll prolly buy one... the pretty colours dazzle me.... but I hear Intel are planning a new Xscale cpu for 2004.... which is meant to be a lot better than this one... so will our brand new xdaII be dead as roadkill by the same time next year?
and I just had a thought.... the current XDAII cpu is an Xscale... and the XDA is a strongarm.... so there goes the 'borrowing' idea :?
yes I type while I think..
yes I dont delete text I decide is wrong before posting
XDA developer Peter Poelman:
I want the "More" tab to setup Cell Broadcast and auto pick-up - those settings were on this tab too.
ALL:
So you think that it'll be hard to get the final release? That defines a question - where is the kitchen rom from? It's a silly question, I know... But if you want to answer, send me an private message.
Thanx
Correction - If you want to give me an answer...
Sorry for my english...
It would appear that the version we have is OEM
the T-mobile branding I'm not so sure about maybe its a beta internal release inside T-mobile.
Remember though that just because they have it.... doesnt mean we will.
There is even a Apple OSX for Intel machines... Apple has currently no intentions of releasing it but does have 8 developers slowly working away
AOL for linux ? yes there was one..... but apart from the early beta which has since disapeared nobody has heard anything about it since.
Stranger things have happened (or have not as the case seems to be here)
Ok 2 things here. For the person wanting the "More" tab on the phone settings, which ROM version are you using? I am using 4.00.16, and it is in there. Perhaps this is not part of the ROM version, but depends on what radio stack is being used?
Secondly, I wouldn't be too surprised to at least see a T-Mobile release of WM 2003, but I also wouldn't guarantee it. They have released - ok not released - but a couple different betas have become "available" so we know they are working on it. I should say we know they were working on it. No telling now, as no new betas have appeared since June or July.
The person who wanted the "More" Tab was me I use 4.00.11 and don't want to install 4.00.16 until there will be a "clear" version without T-Mobile add-ons. The "More" tab must be part of the ROM because it is a part of system! I have radio stack 4.21. My boyfriend has the same version of radio stack, but PPC2002 and he has the "More" Tab.
About the new versions of those betas - maybe they have it better secured?

if you installed a based ROM, meaning no add-on software or not cook with the kitchen, there will be a more tab on you setting, but if you add some software to the ROM the setting for the more tab will be overiden, anyway you can still setup this thing in the registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel... the setting for keylock is there and also for the setting of automatic answer is there, just change the value.

WM 6.5 On The Touch HD?

Ballmer confirmed it exists today. Sources close to microsoft say RTM may go in the next month and it looks like this will see a Q1 release.
I would suggest it will be highly likely that the Touch will get an official Rom update. The HTC Rom update will be several months down the track of course
However, failing an official ROM update I would bet my soon to arrive Touch that there is a cooked ROM of the update. So eitherway you will be covered.

Thanks for that information.
As an aside how do software updates work on WM devices, I assume it's not like the update service used by S60 devices?
When you update your ROM, everything gets wiped so you have to put everything you want to keep (eg program config files, Word docs, pictures, videos, etc) on another storage medium.
Then connect your device using ActiveSync or Mobile Device Center and run the update. It'll then flash your device in about 5-10 mins.

Is the update flashed directly onto the devices ROM as with S60 by the update service?
Any pointers on where to get one of these cooked roms? HTC aren't planning to roll this out for those that have an HD. :-(

erm, where have you looked?
did you try the Rom developers forum just under this one?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=453
Thank you for the head-s up. It took a lot of patience searching among this forum to get to it until you posted the link. I'm not surprised how popular these roms are, HTCs support isn't up to much.
There are a lot of allegedly supported features on that device that aren't supported or don't work. BT Pan, OBEX FTP to name but a couple...I'm not a huge Windows CE developer, but I'm working on it.

What chance for T-Mobile UK users?

There you all are, bragging about latest Rom updates and customisations and this and that and here we are stuck with T-Mobile Rom 1.43.110.2 release date 28/10/09. Loads of things that don't quite work and no support from T-Mobile......I feel that we have been mugged. Would the sale of goods act work for us if we beat the drum loudly enough?
Just Gold Card it and stick on your choice of ROM.
1.61 WWE/TUR works fine for me. It self configures the network settings and only needs the proxy disabling.

"WE" ?
So much for "thanks for the feedback"
Instead of throwing a wobbly why not do as advised ? Read the forums, methodically. Every time you find something on your phone which 'won't work' you need to search the forums and read the threads. You will find the answer to all of the 'issues' with your phone.
Since pocket pcs and smartphones were invented it is a fact that the manufacturers are not as good as some of the chefs on xda developers at cooking up ROMs. Mobile suppliers have always under resourced the phones they issue, the branding has always been rubbish, the phones always locked. Licensing issues have always meant that what one mobile phone provider giveth the other taketh away.
One thing remains constant: there has (nearly) always been a workaround and the workaround was usually devised on xdadev !

Agreed -it worked for me.
Two things.
1) The stock t-mobile UK ROMS are on this forum. Search for posts by a user called Football and you'll find what you need as a backup.
2) Disabling the Proxy didn't work for me on it's own. I had to find the setting to update the connections database first. Once that lastest connection database downloaded, I could then disable the proxy and viola, Peep started to work.

Can you download it? When i goto the main list of ROMS it doesn't show up. If i goto the direct link i can see it, but can't download as it rejects my serial even tho i have a WWE unbranded handset. I'm currently on ROM 1.66.
I can't load it, because I've a German device. But it is for me in the list and it is marked " Date: 2010-06-17".

odd, that looks more like a radio version than a rom version. can't try the download though, not on pc. hmmm.
I have now tried another WWE Serial that was posted elsewhere in the forums and this also doesn't work.
Has anyone had any luck downloading this?

seems to be last O2 released rom, as well?
So - this is nothing new then.......................
I have emailed HTC to see what they are say.
I hate HTC for that. Why do they always release something and name it after sth. completely different. After a couple of customer-complaints and corrections they will change the information... Are there only idiots at work?
It was the same with ALL branded ROMs here in GER, and the famous SMS-Hotfix is still a RADIO...
HTC, you should rather care for your customers than going to court vs. Conflipper... and your E-Mail-support - it seems that the only condition to get an engagement in your customer support is being able to breathe autonomously... when I came from SE to HTC, I thought customer care could only become better - but HTC is just a whole freakin' mess...
BTW: a 2.07-ROM for EUR woud have been strange anyway...
Sorry, for getting OT...
lol, maybe it's a response test on us lot, , see how quickly it gets found when they put something on the server,
So is this really just a Radio upgrade? Because I'm currently on Stock 1.66 WWE Rom with Radio 2.10.50.07 from Middle East & Africa HTC site.

NEW HTC UPDATE for SMS enhancement

Hi everybody,
I read a lot about problems with the sms function, and I just noticed on HTC's website they have posted an upgrade for this problem in particular....
I saw I couldn't post the link here but you know how to get to the upgrade...
Just go to the HTC website and select the support section.
So I just thought i'd bring it to everybody's attention...my eyes are like a hawk attuned to HTC lol
Best of luck.
Joey
Can anyone tell me what problems these updates actually address? On the HTC website it just says SMS stability but doesn't explain more
We lost our files with the updates??
no no data will be erased, it's only a hotfix!

ROM update is like firmware update. They try to root out bugs or improve performance from the older version.
Yes, you can download the new ROM from htc.com. go to support link. You need to provide your phone serial number, just to check if this ROM is compatible to your device.

Thank you. I'm downloading now.
Best regards,
I am having really big issues with SMS handling.
I do have the 1.36 update and also have the SMS-hotfix.
I have imported aproximately 3000 SMS via MyPhone.
When replying to an SMS it takes on average 5-6 seconds before I can start writing. Is this normal? If a contact has alot of SMS's, then it takes even longer...
Apparently, HTC Messages is designed for less than 100 messages only.
I've lodged my complaint on HTC Support.
I encourage you, and everybody, to register complaints of this dismal messaging app.
It's the only way to get HTC's attention. And force them to do something about it.
I just got an answer from HTC support. Appearently all SMS, etc is stored in internal memory, so the more stuff you got in there, the slower the device gets. Guess I just have to start deleting...
Err, ah....
I was thinking of upgrading the ROM to the 1.36 and went to the HTC download page. There I found these versions available: Greece: 1.36.482.1, Portugal: 1.36.410.1, France: 1.36.406.1, Denmark: 1.36.403.1, Italy: 1.36.408.1, Europe: 1.36.401.1, Spain: 1.36.412.1, Russian Federation: 1.36.411.1, Sweden: 1.36.413.1, Germany: 1.36.407.1, Nederland: 1.36.404.1, East Europe: 1.36.479.1, Norway: 1.36.409.1. So what's the difference and how do I know which one to choose as I am not in one of the country's specifically named. I guess I could go for "Europe" but I must admit to being a tad confused.
Can somebody inform me?
Thanks
which country are you actually in?

That's not it. HTC messaging is slow even if you have 30 messages. Normal Windows Mobile phone should handle several thousands of messages, before there will be any slow down. My previous phone, Asus P750 with only 64mb ram, can handle in excess of 20,000 messages, before it started to have a slight slow down. If HTC can't handle 20,000 messages, that's ok. We're not asking that much. But at least it should be able to handle 5,000 or 6,000 without any slow down. At the worst of the worst, it should be able to handle 3,000. Like any other windows mobile phone can.
SO don't swallow that BS explanation of HTC. It's wrong. There's something wrong with HTC messaging. THey'll have to admit it first, before we can expect them to dig in and root out the bugs.
HTC customer support is very LAZY. Damn TOO LAZY. Always trying to squeeze into an easy way out. We should not let them get away with this.
