Duplicate contacts in messaging - Hero, G2 Touch General

Guys
I dont like doing this but ive come accross a bizzare problem on my HTC tattoo and was wondering if the same issue happens on the Hero
Ive posted this in the main tattoo forum but theres not a lot of people there really
Does anybody else have a problem when composing a sms that when typing a recipient every contact is duplicated (two of each) in the scroll list that appears?
In the people app I have unchecked Google and Sim contacts so I am not sure why this is happening? I only have one contact showing in the people app
also I just used HTC sync with outlook for the 2nd time since getting the phone to see if that would get rid of the duplicate contacts in the messaging app.
Guess what - after the sync ive now got three of evry contact showing on the drop down list. Ive got a feeling that syncing with outlook is causing this.
The only way I can think of getting around this is to master reset the phone then only sync with gmail. Ireally dont want to have to do this - anyone got any better suggestions?

Facebook Links & Repeated Appointments

First of all hello and you have my support to whichever great happening from XDA to HTC HD2 --- This said as its my first post.
Now on to the problems:
1) I have been using numerous ROMs so far and i am sort of a facebook fan thus connecting my contacts to facebook. Im also using Activesync and MyPhone. The problem here lies on the fact that whenever i flash a new ROM or the original one i have to connect hundreds of contacts to facebook again. There was only one time that my facebook link for the contacts linked automatically after flashing new ROM. Anyone knows the process of getting this right without going through the process of linking them again after flashing?
2) Selection of specific days of appointments to be repeated is does not exist in HTC calendar. Anyone has any other .cab addition to this so you can select the days of a repeated appointment? (So far the only option i have is "Repeat X Day"

The facebook association is saved in your contacts 'notes' field. When you re-sync your contacts after a flash, that data is also restored. (As is the 'favoutite people' links on the people tab)
Once you have associated your 'me' contact card to your facebook account, all your facebook associations are restored. You may still get the popup asking you to recreate the associations, first time you connect from the me contact card, but you don't need to.
I can see the code in the Notes under each contact, i also enter my facebook password and run the app before even sync my contacts, and reboot before and after syncing.
Tho it never re-links my contacts.
its not connected to the facebook app, forget about the app for now. It only responds to you clicking the 'me' contact card, scrolling to the bottom and linking with faceook profile. After that it can take a little time to sync, , you can go to people - all people - and slide to the 'updates and events' tab, click menu - update now, and it 'should' eventually update. SOme people have reported it takes some time to get going.
That was done automatically as soon as i entered my facebook account details.
I will let it there for 1-2 days see if it will be done automatically but my best guess from the discussion so far is that theres no clear procedure to do this

HTC Messages

Afternoon all...
today my HTC HD2 has started acting strange In the messaging tab it has stopped showing peoples name all it shows is +44(their number)
this is frustrating as i have to open the message to see who it is from but then it wont show the message or anything
very frustrating!!!!
does anybody have some ideas?
It's not messenger .. it's messages.
Try changing the title if you can.
Oh OK,
any ideas though?
Tesh
From my own experiences in the past, this happens when it syncs and things get a little silly.. often just deleting the profile that your pc recognises and creating a new one and then a fresh sync gets over the problem.. this happened a lot on my Touch HD but not so much on my HD2..
Watch out for your contacts and notes on the pc getting deleted as well.. do a backup in Outlook first..
No sorry
I already have sms problems but not like these .. those are much worse.

hd2 sending same email twice?

This seems to happen when I send emails ( on googlmail ) Checked threads but can't see similar thread - any idea please? Thanks.
Mine does this too. Very annoying

I just tried this and it does not send duplicate E-Mails to me. I have uploaded duplicate messages to facebook before but that was because of me sending / recieving with my 3g disabled and networking disabled and then resending.
What enviroment are you sending this from via which interface 3g or networking? Work, Home?
Did anyone get a solution to this?
Happening for me as well on IMAP and POP3 gmail.
It is intermittent though - sometimes happens sometimes not.
Only started a week ago [no software or hardware change] and deleting and re-entering account data did nothing
this is super annoying. i'm using energy's roms and use the outlook setup wizard to get gmail going...anyone got ideas?
I have tested a couple of things last night and see that when I "reply all" it includes my email address in the "To" field as well.
If I delete my email from this field then people seem to only get 1 copy.
The couple of times I forgot to do this they got 2-3 copies.
Any way to stop this happening?
I note there are now 3 separate thread on this topic so we are not alone!
Vodaphone and HTC though both told me they have not come across it before.
Someone recommended turning off "save sent emails" (I dont recall turning it on!)
See if that helps
I am also haveing the same problem. Every time I send a reply through gmail, two e-mails are sent...
Has anyone found a solution? I am suing Miri roms...
Br,
Peter
untick the "save sent email" option and also when you reply-all delete your own email address from the "to" list.
Both of these factors reduced the frequency for me but I found especially when it is a mutli-chain email with lots of contribution to it no matter what I do it happens.
BUT by doing these things for ages it did stop.

i9000 Facebook contact Sync Error

Hi all,
I am having a big headache with my phone now, please help if you have any idea to solve this, or if you have any idea to track the root cause! Thanks!
This morning when I woke up, I found that most of the profile pictures of my friends lost in the contact list. After a while investigation, I found that only 16 out of 4xx persons in my facebook left in my contact list.
To fix the issue, I tried a re-sync and this can't help. Except the contacts in gmail, only 16 persons in facebook appears in my contact list. I then tried to delete the facebook account in the contact, reboot my device, and add the facebook account again, but same issue happened again. If I choose not to automatically add all friends in my contact, the wizard will pop up exactly 16 friends to let me choose who should i import, but other 4xx friends disappeared.
I have double checked that I did not click "show friends with contact number only". And the strange things is, if i go to "activites" in the contact app, the update of friends that did not show up appeared in activites, and I can provide comment as well.
I am sure there is something wrong in the import process that skipped many of my friends from import. Anyone did try this and have a fix? Or how can I investigate the "log" or something else to pinpoint out the problem? I am afraid that even I hard reset my phone the same issue will exist!

Please give a hand.. anyone meet this issue?
Same thing with me.. The funny thing is, I can no longer add some of my facebook friends, they are no longer listed on the "Get Friends" menu. The phone thinks that they've already been added.
This happens when facebook sync have errors...
I still can't find a way to get back my missing Facebook friends...

I have searched all over the web and seems only you and me have reported this error.
Can we confirm that this issue is caused by "i9000 database has the corrupted friend" rather than "i9000 not able to interpret the facebook list"? To eliminate the issue, I have tried to clear the SNS / Contact / Contact Location cache / data but they still can't help. If this is the case, resetting the phone (but this is my last step) should help.
Could someone specialized in the i9000 data structure to suggest a way to fully clean up the contact database? Maybe this can cater the case if the db is corrupted by sync error!
Thanks!
I have a new friend in facebook today and as expected, the new friend not appear in the list after data-sync, no matter I want to add it later or add it during sync...
Furthermore, com.sec.android.app.sns/snsDB.db contains only the 16 friends in the database, which I suspect the server did not return the remaining contacts?

I have just tried a hard reset and the problem still cannot be solved... I think I need to call samsung support... This seems to be something wrong in the samsung sync server...
Same here, many contacts that sync from facebook are missing.
I don't use fb, so I don't think I can help, but I just wonder if something dumb in the software is going on. So, if you have 16 friends or however many syncing, these friends don't happen to show up elsewhere in your phone or in the cloud. Right? Maybe it has something to do with trying to match up with names you have in your phone book that have a phone number?
Again, just throwing an idea out there, but similar to how you can import all your google contacts or just the ones with a number.
Your friend counts seem awfully low, so if I'm wrong, try to think if there is anything common link between these friends that do get synced. Perhaps they have something in common that can help the sync...

Thank you very much for your suggestion... to answer your suggestion:
- I did nto click "show contacts with phone number only"
- I tried to dump the database from SNS, inside the database only the 16 friends exist, other 4xx friends no appeared in the database
- I have phoned samsung and they just request me to send them the phone. Their reply is quite inprofessional as they said if other facebook account is ok, that should be your account issue and saume generally can't help with facebook issue. But I am sure the phone is syncing with a samsung proxy instead of syncing to facebook directly.
I tried many things but nothing can fix this issue.
Ditto, I've tried many different things. Hard reset a few times as well and nothing. Reseated battery and put in a new sim. Perhaps maybe the order of things done is what works. I even tried to sync it before I created my google account. Anybody who has gotten this to work and remember what some of the first steps they did when they got their phone, input would be helpful to try and repeat your process.
if anyone can fix it please let me know how.
What firmware are you'll on? I had this problem with JG1. Flashed to JG5 and the problem's gone. But now my twitter contacts don't update. just two of them appear on my phone
I'm guessing there's a problem with the sync in our phones. I'm just learning to live with it
I have got a solution for this.
The problem is originated from the export error of facebook contact. Here is how I treat the problem:
1. Export your facebook contact using the facebook apps "Export Friends To CSV" (Google it and find the link, I cannot post the link)
2. After you have got the CSV, open it using Excel and check whether there are rows containing more than one contact. Apparently, there is error in the first friend contact info of these rows.
3. Remove those friends from your facebook contact (or ask your friends to fix their info).
4. Resync your Android contact with facebook.
This works for me. Hope this help.
Cheers.

Phonebook

i love the Droid X, but freaking hate the phonebook. it truley is the worse contact list i've used. is there anyway to flash the stock android phonebook onto the phone?
if not, does anyone know how to limit what contacts are displayed? i dont want everyone ive ever emailed to show up in my contacts list. i've tried changing the displayed contacts to my phone contacts, or gmail contacts, but whenever i leave it for a bit it just resets and shows me hundreds of stupid emails.
I had a similar issue, have had my DX about 6 weeks and found some useful articles on the subject. I think (and only my recollection, could be wrong on this) what I ended up doing was un-syncing EVERYTHING in terms of email accounts and contacts (via My Accounts) and ended up ONLY syncing my gmail contacts.
This was done after finding a nifty Facebook Profile Pic sync to Gmail thing-uh-majig. If you sync contacts, preferrably you limit what you sync because as you said, it goes WAY overboard. It sounds like you sync'd corporate (work) email and contact which is a BIG no-no.
Once I started using roms all my contacts issues went away. Almost all the roms have the normal stock android contacts app. Some can even use WyContacts (the CM contacts app).
Edit: @DNak206, hey I'm from seattle too! My droid X is the one verizon gave away during their @droidlanding promotion thing in Seattle.
Yup dc seem to mic all the contacts but if you hate to look because everything seems mixed up ( facebook contact, phone contact and so on ) you can alway preds menu and select a display group.
The way I manage my contact is I have fixed and organize every thing on my gmail thnen I sync my droid.
The eay I use my contact is I dont go yo the contacts shortcut. I always go to the phone shortcut the select favorites since the droid is keeping a record of all of the contact that iI usually use and it has pwen put in order. I also use the defaul universal inbox to send email. I hit compost and start typing names and email and the droid gives a suggestion and I just select one from there.

NICE! I have lived in Seattle awhile, I guess you could say I'm immune to the weather.
While we're on the topic of contacts though, has anyone noticed the default text messaging/SMS will populate ALL the phone numbers for contacts as opposed to identifying the "mobile" listed # for a contact?
For example, if I'm trying to send a text to Jon Smith. I'll compose new message, start typing "smi" in the :TO line and Jon will pop up in the selectable options (or scrollable rather?). The problem is, I have to swipe or scroll through his work, home, and then finally select his mobile number.
Maybe Windows had one thing over Android because neither my TP1 or TP2 would ever list a work or home # when composing a new text, it was actually smart enough to recognize the mobile # in terms of priority. Anyone else found a fix for this, maybe a text app (like handscent or whatever) will resolve?
Handcent or chompSMS might do the trick. When calling someone I know theres an option to remember the number you dialed, not sure about when texting..
If you always send msg or call john he will be under your favorites list. I always go thru the favoritw list and click the call icon on the side of the name to make a call or i click the name then clic the mail icon to send sms.
