internet and data question - HD2 General

HI,
I've just bought the HD2 today on SIM free to replace my iphone 3G. When I bought the phone the guy in the shop said I may need to change my O2 internet and data settings from idata.O2 etc, to wap.O2 etc as iphone settings are different from all other phones and are idata as default. However, I can't find these settings. I can configure to O2 settings but it doesn't come up with individual settings and ip addresses etc. Where can I find these?
Cheers

Try setting the HD2 internet settings to O2 and you should be fine.
for MMS settings check here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=590753

OK thanks. It shouldn't alter the way I'm billed or anything should it?

To make sure of that check with O2. I suppose it makes no difference but I'm not familiar with dedicated iphone proxies etc etc.

Complete newb to my Qtek... (Cingular US Settings)

Hi there, I'm about to update my Qtek 9100 to the latest WWE ROM posted last week. Is there anything very important I should know before I do this? I already backed up all my information and files, and I'm currently running on the Cingular US network. I tried searching for the official Cingular 8125 ROM but wasn't able to find it. I really, REALLY want to have the exact same settings as the 8125 does for connecting to the internet so I get full speed EDGE and the best phone signal it can offer. Could anybody please tell me how to set up my Qtek so it's exactly the same, including the E icon when I'm in an EDGE-covered area? I did a search for everything, but all I managed to find were a bunch of posts where everybody knew what everybody else was talking about. I managed to find the cab file named "Signed_Edge_Icon.sa" but I honestly have no idea what to do with it. As I said, I'm completely new to this, and I just want my Qtek 9100 to perform the best it possible can on Cingular's network. Thank you so much!
Cingular Settings
Hi,
Cingular has a blow by blow description of the settings.
https://onlinecare.cingular.com/dev...ingular.atgnow.com/cng/tutorials/KB56475.html
are the internet settings
.... and .....
https://onlinecare.cingular.com/dev...ingular.atgnow.com/cng/tutorials/KB56044.html
are the MMS settings
And for the cab file, just use activesync (press the explore icon) to drag the cab file to you phone and then tap it to run it.
Cool, I got that cab installed, but I'm having trouble with those Cingular settings... I don't have a "Set up Proxy Server" option under the first My ISP list. I do have it under My Work Network, but to my understanding that is a completely different connection option. Is it okay to have the wap.cingular connection under My ISP and the proxy server information under My Work Network, or should I just put everything under My Work Network and leave My ISP alone?
Through my experience the proxy settings for Cingular do two things (one good one bad) and your decision to use them should be based on which is more necessary to you.
1. The proxy settings allow you to use the MEdia Net homepage at device.home
2. The proxy settings screw with your WIFI connection and cause timeout errors and such when attempting to browse at home.
I personally find that the MEdia Net homepage is nice, but I can live without it or even replace it with other things like google.com/ig.
If you want to enable the proxy settings on the My ISP panel go to the advanced tab and create a new profile where My ISP is. For some reason the new one will allow you to put in proxy settings, but the default My ISP won't.

o2 mobile internet problem - help needed

I bought a sim-free htc touch hd a few weeks ago, bought an o2 pay&go sim, added the unlimited web blot-on, and thought everything would be just fine. But I was wrong.
It worked fine on the small number of occasions I used it before yesterday.
Since I added the web bolt-on, the automatic connection settings no longer work and I get the following message every time I try to set up the data connection:
Dialed:
Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings. If the problem continues, reset your mobile device according to your manufacturer's documentation and try again.

Other than trying the automatic connection setup feature a few times, I've also tried manual settings. Currently my settings are as follows:
Modem selected: Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)
Access point name: mobile.o2.co.uk
User name: O2web
Password: some 16 digit long network automatic password
Domain: no value entered
Advanced settings:
TCP/IP: Use server-assigned IP address
Servers: Use server-assigned addresses

I've tried using a different username and password, same the ones listed on most setup guides.
I've tried entering a manual DNS, and Alt DNS server address under advanced settings.
I've tried setting up the connection from scratch.
And I've tried doing a soft reset followed by restoring it to factory settings.
Currently I am using ROM version 1.14.4005.3, and have nothing else installed on the device. I do not currently have access to anything other than a mac, so cannot use any windows-related troubleshooting devices.
Absolutely anything you could suggest would be great. Rang o2, but they were unhelpful. Thanks chaps.

Those are the O2 contract settings. PAYG settings are different and one will not work with the others' settings. You'll have to scoure the O2 website to find the manual settings for PAYG (or PAG as O2 calls it).
A word of warning, however, after just coming off P&G and onto contract, and thus knowing the limitations of both, your mobile web with P&G will be severely crippled.
Unless O2 have changed their settings on the server side, the only web program that will work will be Opera. Email client and youtube won't work as P&G is limited to port 8080 (HTML) only...
This is something that really annoyed me when I was with P&G because I couldn't use my mobile's email client because it just could not connect.
sorry, rant/warning over! Summary: you need P&G specific settings, you can find them (eventually) on the O2 website - keep trying makes and models until you find one that gives you the manual settings (I can't give more help than this as I had to do the exact same thing myself!). HTC auto-connect wizard only has contract settings in it. Also be warned that potentially only Opera will work once you get the settings!

Thank you so much. I may love you. In a non-gay way. Anywho, I've found out how to do it. It's extremely simple now that you've pointed me toward the problem.
Go to Settings > Connections > Manage existing connections
Then under the 'Modem' tab, edit your connection.
All you have to do is change the access point name from 'mobileweb.o2.co.uk' to 'payango.o2.co.uk'.
Very simple.
And thanks for the warning about the limitations. I might take that up with them, since it is not mentioned when purchasing the web upgrade or sim. I'll test it out first though.

It's a general thing with PAYG really, telcos want you to have contracts - make more money from you that way! all PAYG SIMs go through proxies for mobile web connections, and almost all the PAYG proxies are limited to 8080 only.
Then again, it sounds like you didn't use the proxy settings so we'll see what happens w.r.t non html usage!
When you get a chance, could you please have a play with trying to use Gmail on IMAP and/or the YouTube and/or weather panel and report back whether it works or gets timed out? I'd really like to see how you get on!
As I already have many phone contracts in the family (that I'm paying for ), I got one of those o2 simplicity 30 day rolling contract things, the cheapest one for £10, then added £7.50 web bolt on, that lets you do whatever you like (you tube, mail etc all works fine), I thinks its also 150mins and 300txts.
Tmob do one as well that I think £20 for more mins, Unlimited txts and free web (special offer at the moment). It is a better deal than the o2 for only £2.50 more, but I have better o2 reception where I am, and also they use the Edge network.

OK, I've played about with these a bit, and they seem to be working fine. Weather works perfectly, as does my Gmail account on IMAP.
The youtube application is extremely slow, but I'm assuming that is more general, than a specific PAYG problem.

I've got their 'Your Country' SIM pack, which is purely top-up, but they deduct the 7.50 form my credit each month. It's great for me, since you get free minutes for calls to overseas whenever you top-up - damn useful for an Irishman.
Can't afford 20 pound every single month unfortunately. Student life (ignoring the fact that I managed to get a HD).
Thanks again chaps.

Lost T-Mobile UK data settings HTC HD2

Hi can anyone help. Just put 1.66 ROM into my HD2 all is well apart from no internet connection available. Does anyone have the correct setings for T-Mobile UK internet and data use? Thought this would be a new dawn for my phone now I can't even check emails or get weather updates. I'm gutted. HELP!!!
remove your SIM/SD card and do a hard reset. turn it on with them still removed and set it up. put your SIM card in a it should ask you to choose your provider and install the correct settings. if not, you'll have to get T-Mobile to SMS them to you
settings menu all settings connections connection setup
does that work?
also, in start menu there is usually an icon your sim card puts there to get settings.
access point: general.t-mobile.uk
username: user
password: pass
thats contract settings for t-mobile.

Had the same problem,
Try
Start--->menu---> full menu ---->settings----> connections---->connection setup.
Auto settings puts in a proxy server for t-mobileUK (well mine does sometimes). No idea why!
Remove the check to use proxy and all OK.

That means that you are not trying to access sites or functions that dislike the proxy being enabled. When it is enabled the t-mobile proxy dictates what you can and cannot access. Try an ftp transfer with the proxy on!
ahhh.
my browsing is limited. same few sites.

whats the difference between proxy ticked and unticked.i noticed when its ticked my email will not update.
mines ticked and email comes through when i check it.
So, i have no idea why some people have problems, and i don't.

MMS not sending..

I've searched and all I could find is how to fix resizing of MMS pictures. But for me I can't send them. It always says unable to send message. I don't know if I can receive them because I haven't had anyone send me one and I can't obviously send one to myself.
You will probably have to hard reset your phone. That happened to me and that is what I had to do.
look in
settings menu all settings connections
and see if you have a connection setup option, which should set up web data and mms data.
or, in the start menu, there may be a tmo branded item, possibly looks like a sim card, which will request settings from your network, , (though it doesnt work on my o2)
Alternatively, have you been messing with the mms server settings? particularly which data connection it uses to send? cos (certainly on the o2 uk one) if you set mms to use the wrong data connection it fails. (One is propper data, teh mms one is wap)
