Wish list for Modified ROMs - Nexus One General

I know it's Been out for less than a day, and there's not much improvement to be made with performance buts it's been rooted and we all like a wish list lol,
so what mods do we all whant off the bat with the Nexus One ??
My list :-
MultiTouch browser (and gallery if possible)
Obex file transfer
busybox
Apps2SD
.flac Playback
Any others ??

Google is supposedly going to put out Apps2SD themselves... so if I were a dev, I wouldn't even bother. Plus there's loads of internal (faster) storage on this phone anyway. Hopefully Loccy will be able to add MT to the browser like he did for the G1 and MT3G.

Multi-touch keyboard?

They said they are going to do Apps2SD, but the question is: How long will it take them to complete that and release it to the waiting public?
Personally, I can care either way. I don't think there is a chance that I will come close to filling up 512MB of apps anytime soon, but still would be nice to have that option.

I thins later rather than sooner . . . simply as they stated there are huge copyright laws they have to comply with and putting an app onto a readable SD card is basically copying the program . . . maybe they should use a unique device id so that that app will only work on that phone ? (ovb whenever u downloaded it it would reset this so u still have your apps on a new phone)
But anyway its simple for a moder to add app2sd even if its just until google offers the same.
But like in privious posts u will have to have A LOT of apps to fill the 512mb of flash :-D

Yes! Cant wait for a Cyanogen Rom release. Going to be nice knowing it may unlock this phones full potential

I wish for EspressoUI to be ported over..
Think this will be done with the dump of HTC Bravo..

I want a grid photo contact widget in the custom ROM, like what is in HTC's Sense UI. I looked all over for a widget like that one, but couldn't find any. Wonder if there is a way to get that particular widget out out of a Sense UI rom without getting the rest of Sense UI?

Multi-touch keyboard is a must. Please I'm begging for this to come to android.

I'm just hoping HTC IME is compatible with the Nexus. I hate the Google VK.

Yes the HTC IME is compatible, the only downside is that you don't get the voice icon on the keyboard

K I S S
Just a multitouch. Remeber, we are not using MT3G or G1. Those of you that used Rogers Magic and Telus Hero know what I am talking about. We don't need Apps2SD. It slows down even with the fastest uSD cards.

I would like to see Windows Mobile running on it.

Sense UI aka Hero

PORTING Hero apps to Magic..

Is there anyway to do this?ive tried puching the apps and extra lib.so files in but no joy? Would i need to edit the manifest files?
I mean the apps and NOT the widgets
Good luck w/ this.
I've tried to directly push applications from HERO port builds on several occasions, using different methods.
I wanted HTC Peep, tried to push it with ADB, etc. NO GOOD!
I wanted Footprints, tried to push it as well, also NO GOOD!
Along with the Flash Player and numerous others. Typically, as I'm sure you're aware, the application is quite ingrained within the firmware or build version; making it difficult to find a way to force it to function properly elsewhere.
I'm no expert. However, this might be a lost cause depending on which applications you're wanting to give a shot.
Good luck boss.
Thanks for the response i was starting to think it is worth posting in development and risk a ban! Rather than wait for a response here.
Mainly i want to get the HTC Weather app onto a cyanogen ROM.Just because i find it alot more accurate than any on the market, Plus the look of it from my old blackstone god rest her soul.
Has anyone tried porting parts of magic to hero?

Sorry was on my friends comp and forgot o sign myself in
sadly to say a lot of the apps on hero are used and or deeply apart of rosie.apk. Thus meaning its pretty much reliant on rosie unless extracted the right way without rosie. The framework for rosie is so compiled so complex i get confused lol. If we can destroy it and build it from pebbles then maybe, Till then, the apps belong to rosie. sorry.... fosho. . . .

What's the latest and greatest to do with My Touch 3G

I'm a newb to android and pretty impressed with stock. Just looking over some of the crazy things people are doing, I'm wondering what the latest and greatest thing to do with the My Touch 3G is. From Which ROM/software to run all the way down to settings and Apps. Would really appreciate the run down. Thanks

The Answer
hey there. im gonna actually answer ur question instead of telling u to search. okay well there is really two things u can do, maybe three.
1) install cyanogen's ROM
2) hero ROM
3) donut optimized ROM
my first choice would be cyanogen. visit his site:
www.cyanogenmod.com
this rom is basically the most stable and fastest rom out there. its running the 1.6 donut firmware but it is highly optimized. this is what i am using now. second option is to install a hero rom. i would try either eugenes rom or maxisma's hero roms. they are the best and they offer the best support without being rude. check them out here:
Eugene:

Maxisma:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566965
third option (which i dont recommend) is to use an optimized donut rom that ISNT cyanogen. i wouldnt even bother with these. these are the three roms i would use. take care.

People would be more willing to help instead of just saying to search for the answer, if the OP had posted this in the right section of the forum. This belongs in general, not development. That's why Evil and I did not help. As you can tell by my link, I posted the forum rules and how you need to post in the right section because development is not general, like this question is.

All opinions are subjective. I would flash dwang 1.11 to your MT3G as it runs a lot more smoothly than Cyanogen. Look for dwang's rom on this board as IMO it is the fastest and most optimised rom for the 32b Magic/MT3G.
Yeah dwang's rom is really good. Using it right now. And there are good alternatives for some of the Hero features. Beautiful widgets or weather widget (skinnable!) instead of Hero flip clock. Advanced Launcher if you want more home screens, spelldial for responsive touch dialing (can't live without this one). And the touch keyboard from Hero is available (search HTC IME, this keyboard also includes XT9).
As for the wrong section;
Maybe subtexts for the categories would help a bit?

Welcome to Android and hello from a fellow MT3G user. Important things to know about modding your android phone, the Mytouch 3g = Magic 32b. This is important and how developers explain which rom (build) is for which phone. The second most important thing to invest in is a CLASS 6 micro SD card. This is very important, class 6 is the speed of the SD card and a very fast SD card is needed for running any HERO rom. HERO roms put files on the SD card that are needed with normal usage so if you use the SD card that comes with the phone (class 2) it will run slow as hell. A good, cheap class 6 SD card is this 8gb Adata card for 17.75. This is the SD card I use. If you're still on the SD card that comes with the phone, you're not out of luck. I would start out with Cyanogen's 4.3.2.1, his current build. His builds have the latest and greatest features while not starting from a hero build. It does not have the super fancy UI, but still looks a lot prettier than stock, is rock solid stable and runs extremely fast. Check it out here.
I'm assuming you've never rooted an android phone before, so when you're ready, which this step-by-step video on how to root . I would certainly recommend watching the video a few times before you do it and make SURE to follow it exactly. Good luck, have fun and post up with your thoughts and experiences.

So what are the benefits from running different roms? Will the processing be faster? In other words, if you (the reader of this reply) was a salesman and I (acscott22) was the customer why would I want to switch roms? What am I going to notice from making the switch?
does the mt3g need partitions or do you need them only for certain roms?
quick question
Since HTC has already stated they wont release Sense UI for any google branded phones (Mytouch 3g, etc) instead of flashing a Hero rom, wouldn't it be easier to flash a vanilla unbranded Donut ROM onto the Mytouch and then add the Sense UI?
not sure if anyone has tried this yet though

Well, a salesman wouldn't really tell you to as it's all a bit nudge-nudge wink-wink and voids your warranty.
Pretty much you'll be allowing yourself to do things you wouldn't normally be able to do with a stock ROM, some of which would help speed up your phone a bit. It's not so much about just speeding things up but exploring the potential of the phone to its fullest. Not only that but you'll have all the latest and greatest updates without waiting for you carrier to release them over OTA! Impress your friends! Befuddal your enemies (see; iPhone users)!

Only with ROMs that support/require them, primarily for App2SD (instead of storing applications in the phones internal storage storing them in on the SD) and/or a swap partition to free up RAM. Most of the time it's not necessary but you'll be missing out on the additional, beneficial functionality.

Unfortunately I'm pretty sure Sense UI requires a lot of dependencies that are only present in Hero ROMs, and can't just be brought across wholesale from said Hero ROM to AOSP builds.
ok but HTC has said that they are going to release sense UI to unbranded Magics. Not sure when, but they did say that it was going to happen. I guess I'll have to hold out. I cant go without bluetooth, but I really like the Sense UI of the Hero Roms.

There's a lot of roms out there, there's lots of lists, and many have a lot of information in them. Informations good, but it's nice to see it summarized in just a few sentences.
Sure a lot of posts are reposts... but sometimes those good because older stuff needs updating/clarification.

easy fit an an mt3g without a2sd

Live wallpapers isn't that good. Just waste battery and makes the system slower but it is good eye candy and great to show off the phone. The phone has a decent amount of RAM (512 mb) so once this phone gets rooted someone can enable LW.

Live wallpaper is not available on 2.1 with Sense UI which the MyTouch Slide seems to be running... not T-Mobile's fault.

ROM Manager - Where's the beef?

So I decided to buy ROM Manager to support the project but have to admit I was a little disappointed. Sadly I prefer the candy coating of Sense to that of CM. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot to like in CM too. I just tend to like the polish of Sense. Regardless, I had thought I might have direct access to many of the ROMs I've seen throughout the forums. Apparently that's not the case. Does ROM Manager only support CM ROMs?
No worries. I know I could get a refund for the App and return it but I'm cool with it. Maybe in the future more ROMs will become available for it for the Incredible.
Rom Manager supports virtually any rom, it's just a matter of the author setting up his server to work with Rom Manager AFAIK. More will be added eventually.
The chefs have to opt in to be included in ROM manager. Moto Droid had tons of stuff to choose from and I loved it. I have yet to see anything interesting in ROM Manager for the Incredible. Urge your favorite chefs to participate!
Ok, thanks guys. Hopefully things will get more active in the future then.
ROM Manager will gain more roms in due time, there isn't really alot of roms out for the inc as it is now. Also like mentioned its up to the rom devs to put them on there. They will come.

I used to be a fan of Sense, but the fact of the matter is that it's bloated.
There are plenty of alternatives in a ROM like CM for all of the Sense features you'd miss.
Also u can download any ROM and use ROM Manager to install it. Just download rom go into rom manager and choose install from SD. Imho its easier than booting into recovery and installing. So, i. A sense it does support everything else. Its also ez to manage and restore ur backups through ROM manager. Once u use it for a while and figure it out it can b a very handy tool if u are addicted to flashing ROMS. Goodluck i hope this can b of assistance to u
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Yeah the developer of ROM Manager strongly encourages all devs to submit their ROMs... Other phones such as the Moto Droid have a much larger selection... As ROM development gets further along, there will be more on ROM Manager for Incredible as well.
I think the incredible has been hurt by the lack of phones available. I don't recall the original moto droid having inventory issues like the incredible. I think this has hindered rom development and availability of different roms. Imagine if we did not have months of no incredible phones available. The popularity of the incredible might be different, thus in my mind making the demand and supply of roms more available.
I am a big fan of Cyanogen's roms so not that big of a deal for me. I know that once the drivers are released the camera will be fixed. I am wondering if we will be able to have video out with cyan's roms?
Either way - rom manager is a great program and has a lot of different functionalities and uses. Some listed below:
flashing other roms (duh)
nandroid
partition sd card
fix permissions
Let's hope that HTC releases the drivers soon

No there isnt ... there are a few similar apps that just dont quite do it and there are others that are such crapware you would be embarrassed to show your phone to anyone. Seriously when i went with a vanilla UI and tried to find alternatives to Sense widgets and apps, I found out just how crappy the apps were on this OS.

Well I'll have to half agree with you there, there are some Sense widgets that I could never find replacements for. It's really a trade off, although it would be nice if we could somehow extract some of those to be used with a 3rd party or even stock launcher

Regardless, it GREAT that other cookers are starting to get in on the action. I think more people will end up trying their ROMs too. It's a win - win for everyone.

Launcher Pro is going to support that.
Sounds interesting, but it'd be nice if your battery lasts longer than 20 minutes on a full charge, unlike when you're running Sense.
Btw camera is working on cm6 for the inc supposedly. So maybe the dev of skyraider can implement the fix some how.

CM6 Inc test 8 is on ROM Manager now (under the Koush section). Camera works, camcorder still broken.

I think I saw something posted in ROM Manager in the Sky Raider area to fix this. Don't know the specifics or if the video is working. I plan on installing the ROM when I get some free time later.

HTC Sense features?

Hi again everyone!
This may sound like a stupid question, but I've been reading up on a lot of apps that disables the HTC Sense features (ie. Launcher Pro, Cyanogen ROM, etc).
I'm asking myself this question: What are the features of HTC Sense? What will we be missing if it's disabled? Smooth scrolling? Animations?
I read up on the HTC website but of course it's more marketing than informative *duh!*
Thanks for being patient with me

You'll get smoother animations and transitions between apps, but you can't use any HTC Sense widgets.
Thanks for the response zervic and Product F(RED)!
I just read the link that you provided. In summary, HTC Sense is just a smooth-scrolling, animated user-interface comprising of several applications & widgets for the Android, such as:
# Friend Stream
# Camera
# Gallery (Pictures)
# Calculator
# Calendar
# Desk Clock
# Contacts
# Music (player and library)
# Weather
etc.
That's it! Wonder what the big deal is…
Will anyone convince me I do not want to lose Sense at all?

The two main things that work in Sense but not in CM6/AOSP are Flash Lite and FM Radio. Flash Lite is HTC's proprietary "lite" version of Flash that will allow you to view some of the more basic types of Flash on webpages (but not things like streaming videos or music). It's kind of pointless though because that basically means the only thing you can view are Flash ads... lol. Personally I haven't missed it.
Anyway, there's no need to "convince" you. You should just do a Nandroid backup then install CM6. If you don't like it, just load the backup and you're right back where you started like nothing happened.

I have been meaning to ask this question but I don't want to open another thread so I will ask here.
I am leaning towards making the jump to CM6, but I keep seeing that it has no Flash Lite or Flash 10.
Can you elaborate on that a little more? Does that affect my web browser?
I had the Tilt and that didn't have Flash and web browsing sucked. Will I have to deal with that again? Thanks.

On Sense you can temporary disable Flash Lite through the browser settings, so if you're curious to see what it'd be like, just disable Flash Lite and see if it causes any problems for the sites you usually visit. Personally I don't think you'll miss it.
AOSP > Sense
Freedom > conformity
Sense is just HTCs way of making android their own. Using a rom without sense means you can make android your own instead of the way HTC thinks you want it. Samsung and Motorola both have their own versions as well (I'm sure others do too, but those are the only two I've others I've used. I personality prefer the extra customization you can achieve with an ASOP based rom. If that's not important then theres no reason not to stick with the stock sense ui.

The Aria is incapable of flash 10.
Hmm… Now I'm just speechless. I don't know what to say. Guess the best way is to flash different ROMs and try them out myself and see which ones I like best.
Thanks for participating people!

Not exactly. Adobe has designed Flash for Android to rely on an instruction set that is not supported by the Aria's processor. It would still be possible for Adobe to create another version of Flash that WOULD work on Aria in the future (for the sake of expanding Flash support to more devices), although to date they haven't really given any indication that they would do that. I just wanted to point out that there is some hope still, although I wouldn't call myself optimistic.

Yes, but the Aria's processor isn't fast enough for smooth playback anyways.
I had a stock Aria with Sense for several months and loved every bit of it...then I flashed Cyongenmod and I love it even more. Somethings arent as "pretty" as with sense but you get the added benefit of making it look the way you want. The level of customization is incredible and I dont miss Sense at all.
For those that miss the Sense weather/clock on the home screen, Just Google "Fancy Widget"...its exactly the same thing but without the cool weather animation thing that you get after unlocking from the lock screen. I think it was pulled from the market, but you can still find it. I have the apk if you cant.
Just do what others have said. Nandroid back up your current ROM, flash a new one and see how you like it for a few weeks. If you dont, go back to your old ROM. Its super easy.

It's fancy widget 1.30. Don't say you're going to offer out because that's part piracy. Pointing them in the right direction isn't breaking any rules though.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I tested out Sense without flash and the only site I really go to (a NBA forum) had problems because they usually post youtube videos of dunks or other plays embedded in the threads and they wouldn't show up. That sucks.
But I have seen so many really amazing customizations in the Home Screens thread that I will probably go to CM6. One more final on Monday and then I can get to messing around with my phone.
I just love what people have done with Clockr. And the sense weather animations are cool so I will miss those.
I guess you're right "Product F(RED)". It took me awhile to find it and I would like to provide it to anyone who is looking, but I see what you're saying and maybe its not a good idea. On another note, I did a little bit of research and the guys who made the one that was pulled have made a new one (still called Fancy Widget) that is on the market. It looks pretty nice and has a lot of features, but does not have the "flip clock" design that I like so much.
