Included Accessories??? - Nexus One General

So I checked out the Engadget site and have been looking over all the photos as well as doing some searches. For some dumb reason when Engadget did the photo shoot of the unboxing they never took any photos of what is included in the box other than the shots with it wrapped up in the packaging still and no mention in the article. Does anyone know what this phone will ship with or do I have to wait until tomorrow? I saw what looks like contacts on the bottom of the phone for some form of docking station I would assume. I have also seen a screen shot that showed it has an Automobile Theme like the Droid does. So I would assume there is a car dock. Is that included or is it only the basic stuff like what HTC has always shipped like charger, USB cable and headphones?
I have not been able to find any more info on this....
Thanks

If you look at the leaked screens of the purchase page for the nexus one there is the $180 subsidized phone & $530 unsubsidized phone as we all know, but below that there is an option for a desktop charging dock and a car dock which are sold separately. However, in the engadget photos you mention I couldn't help but wonder what the larger item a the bottom of the box was as well. Despite being covered by some sort of styrofoam it looks a lot like some sort of dock...
Hope that helps, either way we'll know tomorrow for sure.

Yeah, that was the main part in question. I bought one of those cheap docks for my G1 that charges a second battery and I like it. I kind of became accustomed to having a dock for it at home for my night stand. I wonder if the car dock will charge as well?

Thanks, so it looks like the typical HTC Accessories. I wonder what the Charger looks like? It would be cool if it were a dock. At least that is what I would prefer.
I can see myself getting this phone provided that the leaked limited plan options doesn't pan out to be true. I don't see my self buying the full unlocked phone as my G1 isn't up for renewal yet. I can upgrade my wife's phone to this and give her my G1. Problem is that we are on a Family Plan and we have no desire to change that. I guess it will come down to the numbers. If it is going to end up being like that then I will likely just have her upgrade to the Motorola Cliq as she liked that phone and I would keep my G1 until the contract is up. For the same price though we could get a better phone, it would just be a lot more expensive per month for us. My G1 is Ok being it is rooted and running CyanogenMod.

I think they are going to follow Apple's lead and sell a dock for a "small" fee.

One thing that appears to suck though is that it looks to have a Micro USB connector rather than the Mini USB that my last 3 phones have all used. Oh well. If I go with it I will have to buy new car chargers. That is if I don't get the car dock which I most likely would. It is nice though to have one charger in our car that works on any of our phones now.

it also comes with a soft case that looks similar to the case the original PSP came with.

I was thinking the same thing, but then realized there are mini to micro usb adapters on ebay for like less than a buck. It looks like micro usb is starting to be the new standard like it is overseas.

I believe the USB micro is the new standardized connector for EU for all their new phones. I hope everyone follows on EU's lead on this soon. (I mean Apple).

Screen Protector???????
I like the OEM Screen Protectors better

I might switch from the Desire - advice

After seeing stock 2.2 android on a nexus one I was blown away, HTC really have ruined android with their "sense UI".
They removed all the app transitions, and the 3d app drawer, and skinned the default apps with a hideous green and black scheme.
Also they have gone to extraordinary lengths to prevent rooting - rooting is possible but a large number of people are bricking their desires, which is hampering development.
So, I'm thinking of switching to a Nexus One. A couple of questions:
What's the best way to get the Nexus One sim free in the UK? I have looked around for answers but those are old threads, with the exchange rates changing there may be a better way of getting one now.
And how are the touch sensitive buttons? From what I have heard they can be unresponsive at times.
Thanks
Best way is still www.google.com/phone as far as I am aware.
As for the capacitive buttons, they're not unresponsive, just you need to press near the top of the graphic rather than bang in the middle. You get used to it pretty quick.
I did just that! I mean switching from Desire to N1 in the UK.
I got my HTC Desire with 20 quid a month plan from T-Mobile. I sold it for 350 in a month and got a brand new Nexus One for 420 from eBay. It was still sealed and all.
If you order it from Google, it will end up costing you about 450 with all taxes + you'll have to wait longer.

I assume you got your from there then? How much did it end up as overall?
I understand it's around £450 including tax and shipping
Total including shipping and VAT, but without the massively expensive charger came to £412.
Then I went to ASDA and bought an 80p shaver plug that I use with the supplied US charger.
I am not too familiar, but i think it may be possible to remove sense UI from the desire, so it would essentially be a slightly modified nexus one, minus the ability to root easily, or easy access to froyo. Not for everyone though.
You can't remove it, but you can install Launcher2 and use that instead.

Pretty sure you can disable Sense UI.... Its in options somewhere, search for it.
AVForums have a great and healthy classifieds area - I actually bought my N1 from there a week or two after it launched (the guy I bought from goes through phones like crazy!) - practically brand new, already rooted and cost me less than £400 - no shipping headaches or looming customs threats
Not sure if there are any N1s for sale right now, but it can't hurt to head on over and check!

You can't sadly. On older phones you could turn off the sense home screens, but not on the Desire. I use a different launcher but that doesn't solve the other problems I mentioned.

Yeah the VAT invoice that bumped it up to £412 came 2/3 weeks later. Still, spread the cost a little I guess.

Try installing "Homeswitcher" first, this is a tool to switch Launchers.
and then install "LauncherPro" or "HelixLauncher2" then configure your Home switcher whether your default launcher should be HTC Sense or "any other launcher".
I prefer Helixlauncher2, as it is very close to the original Android launcher from N1.

I liked text selection implementation on Desire better and also date/time inputs. That's all I miss about it. Now a big fan of Sense UI
Regarding buying on eBay, there's almost always buyer protection for expensive items, so basically the money is held by PayPal for a certain period of time and it's really easy to return the item if there are any problems with it.
There were no problems with mine whatsoever.
Just make sure the buyer has over 100 ratings and that his overall percentage is really high (98-100%) and that no one complained about the same item before.
Make sure you get the "T-Mobile" versions, since it has both 900 and 2100 3G banding, where as the AT&T only has the 2100 for you guys on the otherside of the pond. Granted, 2100 is more popular over there, but some do run on 900, especially in Asia.
The capacitive buttons are kind of unresponsive at times and I do prefer the physical buttons over them. Also it's pretty irritating when I'm playing Pacman, using the scroll ball, and my finger slightly touches the home/menu button and ruins my game. I wouldn't say it's a deal breaker in any way but the physical buttons are a lot better IMO.
You may want to check out the buy/sell/trade forums at howardforums as well. When I was looking for an N1, I saw quite a few go up for sale at decent prices there.
Also, regarding the touch sensitive buttons at the bottom, as another member said, you just have to press towards the top of the button to get them to work. It took me about an hour to get used to pressing them and now I never have problems with them.
thanks for all your replies guys.
i'm still debating whether to do it or not - the price difference between selling my desire and buying the n1 could be over £100
but if i end up bricking my desire than thats a bigger loss
the earlier versions of the nexus one the touch buttons weren't really responsive but they have long since fixed that error if you want a nexus one sim free in the us go to google.com/phone and order it from there. its funny that ur thinking about switching to a nexus one cuz i wanted to test out the desire before froyo. still thinking of getting one to see how it runs. i have some questions for you regarding the desire. how would i get one sim free here in the usa

I have a Fuze, I would like to move to Windows Phone 7 but I want to wait till it is developed further. Looks like a decent phone and can't beat the price. lol
I ordered a pair on the 23rd and received them on the 24th. Coming from Windows Mobile 6.5 and Palm Pre, the switch is very welcome. Lots of reviews call it a budget Android phone. That may be true, but this budget phone is much more functional than others I've used over the years. I'll bet you'll like it.
For the price it should hold me over till ATT comes out with something I really WANT. I need a new toy. Android seems like there is a lot to learn, which I welcome so should be fun.

I found a few threads about wireless tethering but nothing about wired tethering. Is the Aria able to tether over usb out of the box from ATT or does something need to be done?

No, the AT&T Aria does not support wired tethering either out of the box. You will need to install a tethering app. There are a few options in the Market, but you will need to put your Aria in 'Airplane' mode and then make a WiFi connection and access the Market in that manner to search for tethering apps. If you connect to the Market via the AT&T network, they filter out searches for tethering apps.
Thank you, I had read about the airplane mode trick and "tethering apps" just didn't see anything about wired tethering.
HUH?
Doesnt blocking certain sites now violate the new net neutrality? LMAO
The Aria is a great phone with great potential. Despite being a 'mid grade' phone, it's awesome. Very reliable. GPS is great and Camera is great too. Screw Samsung

I wanted to order a bunch of accessories in advance of me getting the Note, but I have a few questions.
#1 - The charger on page 1 is only a 1A. There is a 2A charger (and several other items) on page 2, but they don't seem to have prices nor can they be added to the cart???
#2 - The first page shows a couple of HDMI cables. I am not sure which is the right one, especially since someone said the pins are reversed now or something???
I really want to do a good order but I want to make sure things are right. ALSO, would like to get some of the stuff on the second page but no price?!?!?!
As far as hdmi goes it will be the one that is compatible with the S3. The S3 and Note II have the same pins if I recall correctly. Stay away from the ones for orginal note and s2.

No Charger with Phone

Just purchased mine for €560 on o2 PAYG have to get it unlocked, i was surprised to see there was no Charger with the phone, the o2 sticker on the says "there's no charger in this box, see how we're helping our planet" :-\ not a big deal I'll just use my Samsung charger but I don't recall anyone else on here saying they didn't get a charger with their phone.
Anyway finally I've got it just need to get this baby unlocked now and I'm flying

It's an O2 thing, they've done some eco-friendly deal with htc apparently. Google if your interested.
That's ridiculous! What's stopping o2 from taking the charger out of the box and then reselling it as an original accessory? What would have happenend if you had come from an iPhone? Would you have had to buy a seperate charger? The mind boggles!
They have teamed up with HTC to do it as far as I am aware. They do sell a non HTC charger thats meant to be more eco friendly for around £7.
The Samsung galaxy S3 charger works ok charging now but I'll have to take off a few quid when selling my S3 without the need charger, it is a bit ridiculous, there are plenty of other ways to "save the planet"

Yeah but what about people who haven't got charger, this means they have to purchase one separately, when you've just spend big money on a phone you shouldn't have to pay extra for a charger.

Speeds also the crucial factor here. Haven't received my One yet but every single phone I've ever used (aside from the iphone actually) charges like a disabled tortoise doing the 100m unless it's attached to the mains.

Perhaps, but we could pretend the cost of the device was cheaper because it had no charger. Although I highly doubt they would make you pay £5 for a new device with a 2 year contract just because it had the charger.
They key might be to haggle a little when you purchased, the assistant thought she was doing me a favour giving me a free One case when I got mine at Phones4U, I did then point out that this was as advertised on the website, but she didn't know that and was willing to throw a £25 case at me.
They have to be careful about this approach though, imagine someone getting a fancy phone like this for the first time, or someone coming from a device like the iphone with a different charger and realizing they have no charger for it ---> pretty pissed off.
