Apple Inear Headphones with Mic - Hero CDMA General

I recently bought a pair of In-ear Headphones from Apple to use with my Hero. Everything works except for the volume up/down function. Anyone know of a work around for this?

this is android not apple

While I cannot confirm this, I believe that it requires an extra connector on the inside of the 3.5mm input, which Apple devices have and of course the HTC Hero does not. (kind of like htc's USB with audio-in capability)

I hate all this proprietary BS! Just another way to milk us for money. It's just like the [email protected] Sony memory stick that just doesn't go away!

Thanks for picking up on that
I have figured out that it has to do with the connecter because I also have an older Macbook Pro and it doesn't work with it either, however, it does work with my newer Macbook.
FWIW, the sound quality on these is not that impressive. My girlfriend also bought me a pair of v-modas and they are much better, save for the fact that they favor the bass a little. Luckily I got the apples for only $20 on amazon.

any news on seidio car kit for tilt?

Just wondering if anyone has heard of an ETA for the car kit like the g4700 from Seidio for the Tilt?
I'm waiting on them to release that then I'm ordering a damned butt load of accessories from them.

I would like to know before I start searching other options. I'm eagerly in want of a hands free system.

any news!?
It looks awesome...but $120 for a cradle? Ouch.
I had one of their GPS docks for a Treo 650 and it was a piece of junk. When it worked, it worked well but the design for the power input jack and crappy power cord (with no retention system) made the dock a pain to use.
Hopefully their lofty price of $120 means they've learned how to make a better product and now need to charge more to recoup that R&D. Nonetheless, I still have that old GPS dock if they'd like to offer me a competitive trade up!
It's the combination of jacks that makes it worth the cash. With my 8125 I had a near-factory level of integration with handsfree calling (external mic) and stereo audio into my car's head unit. Unfortunately, none of the other cradles have a mic input.
I have to say that I am pretty excited about this as well. If it works as well as everyone says it does this is exactly what I am looking for. When it comes out I am getting this and the slim rubberized case. Hurry up

I'm thinking that he was referring to the 6800 from the link above.
But... I'll be checking every day to find out when it's available. Particularly if like the mogul it will work with extended batteries and with the slim/rubberized/hard shell case!
Looks like Seidio will be getting a couple hundred clams from me.
I don't know about that. The coming soon for the Kaiser/Tilt is gone and there seems to be no answer from Seidio. When people ask about this they get no reply.

Seidio said that the Tilt kit would be _like_ the 4700X one but in another thread they made it very clear that the 4700X kit is not compatible with the tilt. You should cancel your order if you already made it.

[Q] What is a cheap good media phone?

I am building a bluetooth stereo cooler to take on river floats. I have an Upstage but I think it will be a pain to use, and I surely won't take my Evo on the river. Here is some of the criteria I am looking for...
Easy to access buttons for pause and next song(I will be using random most of the time).
Long battery life, at least 8 hours of music playback. The Guadalupe river has terrible Sprint service so an AT&T phone would be preferable(I hope it doesn't need to be activated?).
Cheap... I am hoping to be able to buy one cheap from Ebay and/or Craigslist for between 20-40 bucks. Being used on the river I doubt it will live very long.
Non-proprietary charging cable. Not a deal breaker but I do have tons of mini and micro USB cables.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. Most online reviews have little to no information about media playing capabilities. I have been looking at the Samsung A777, but I am not a fan of Samsungs phones.
Thanks,
ST

I agree, but he is wanting to use bluetooth. Most cheap MP3's do not have bluetooth capabilities as far as I know. I know ipod touch 3g/4g do, but those aren't within his price range.
Get an old mogul, or other windows mobile phone. I'm sure they can be had for cheap, and should do what you want.

That is exactly what I want, but there is a limited line-up of mp3 players that don't use itunes and have bluetooth. Used cell phones are on Ebay by the thousands and much cheaper than dedicated mp3 players. I don't need anything fancy and I assumed some people on here would have had an old phone they used to use, liked and would recommend.
As far as being the wrong forum... what would you suggest? I am pretty sure I posted in the "general discussion" area.

I have looked into a couple of older HTC models, but I really only need it to play music and not be pissed if I drop it in water. It just seems that a smartphone would use more battery power than necessary to get the job done.

Yeah, I think they started realizing that hardly anybody uses the headphones provided with phones anyway (except for iPhone users, apparently...I see them using the Apple ones all the time), so some manufacturers just don't even bother to include them anymore.

It's not that they were saying "only iPhone users use headphones." It was that it's more common to see iPhone users with their "earpods"( :silly: ) and not so much android users with their stock phones. My friend had the Beats phones with his HTC and said they were crap compared to his Bose ones and threw them away. I have also never found value in the cheap in-box phones personaly. To each their own, but I would be happier to pay less for the phone w/out them and have less crap to throw or give away later.

[Humour][Future] Why my SGS3 doesn't make my coffee?

Why my SGS3 doesn't make my coffee? It sounds like a ridiculous question, right? But hear me out. When Bluetooth came out in 1994 it was said it will change our lives. It was said we would be able to control all appliances in the house by bluetooth. But here we are 18 years later and I have yet to see a single Bluetooth coffee machine. Or is it just me who doesn't look at the right place. What are the coolest gadgets you can control from your SGS3? I know I can control my PC (with Splashtop) but what else? Or what would you like to be able to control with your SGS3?(don't say your wife he he he)
Note: I'm not sure if it should be in the accessories or general section. So...
Is this really necessary?? Why would you want to control things with your phone anyways? Stop being lazy and do it yourself....and p.s you can control your Xbox providing you have one....still a pointless thread though

That is one nice thread!
You are absolutely right about the promises made about bluetooth. However, even although it's 18yo now, how far ago has it become really useable?
Bluetooth 1.0 was a waste of time: limited range and extremely slow transfer rates. Even although we're starting to see BT 4.0 devices, BT 2.1 is the actual widespread standard. That is the standard my car has.
In the car, I can interact with my phone to make phone calls, and all the neat stuff S-Voice allows for.
In my SE W810 there is a built-in app that allows me to use the phone's bluetooth (2.1) to remotely control a PC without the need for any extra software in the PC. That is: the phone works as a bluetooth HID.
That is it, and I only prove your point: BT has failed to keep its promise.
HOWEVER...
... now that Arduino (and other AVRs and MCUs) are becoming so popular and accessible, we are seeing more and more amateur and domestic automation solutions using bluetooth to control anything using a phone. I am one of these Arduino enthusiasts that has lots of ideas (but very little time to implement them) on home automation using Bluetooth or ethernet. Since I am also an android developer, several of my ideas involve marrying the 2 of them through BT: arduino + android controlling home appliances.
My wife promised to buy me a S3 if I gave her a back rub everyday for a week. So see, S3s can already be used by a human to control another human.

Well Smart home exist since a long time but they are not Android/bluetooth. You need to buy the whole package and build your house with the wires. Bluetooth is different. You can just buy different appliance from different companies and control them with your Android phone.(Well, in theory) Anyway, I guess we are not there yet. I just hope we won't have to wait another 20 years.

I've thought about this too, with things like the ardruino and the raspberry pi out there, you can pretty much do anything you want. It would obviously take some research if you don't have the knowledge yourself. I really want to be able to control my AV amp from my phone, constantly misplacing the remote but I never missplace my phone.
I'd certainly be interested in the lamp project too, will you be posting a tutorial when you complete the project?

Mine came with a pair that work. I'm surprised yours didn't. Pardon my asking, but are you sure? They are wrapped up quite small in what might just look like a spacer in the packaging. Either way, crazy that others aren't compatible. I pretty much exclusively use BT, it was only a lark that I even tried them.

would make sense if the phone is designed to put out a digital signal only and since that is generally better quality it seems likely they would utilize it. it's probably like Dolby ATMOS and stuff in video devices can only be transferred over HDMI as it needs a fair bit of data bandwidth. also if you are using Dolby ATMOS on the phone the phone will almost certainly be putting out a digital signal for the headset to deal with.

The sound quality blows anything else out of the water for a phone and it works on PC/Mac, et al.
I have a pair of AKG cans and it can drive them to painful levels whereas the phone itself never gets loud enough.

The quality of the akg headphone is quite good. Surprisingly I received a firmware update for the usb c headphone, first time seeing this.
