Outlook download attachments - HD2 General

Hi
I am new to the HTC HD2 (Leo) but i am already amazed with its potential, could someone help me with the following.
As i am using this as a work phone as well i get a lot of Excel sheets send, when i download the excel sheet to my storage card it seems to download it as .att rather then .xls
Could someone help me where i can change that download configuration?
Thank you very mcuh
Kaiser

It saves them as xls files whenever I do that.
Can you click the attachment in the email and open it there? If so, save it from within excel that way (bit long winded, but will at least allow you to save them!)
What email are you using for this? I only use hotmail and gmail (not via exchange), so I don't use exchange. It's possible (if relevant) that this may be an exchange issue.
Edit: Sorry - you're using Outlook - that answers my question. I can definitely say it doesn't happen with hotmail, so it may be the outlook client, and it may be the outlook server. I'm sure if this is a client issue then it would have been spotted before now, so someone with relevant experience will be able to advise you accordingly.

Thank you for getting back to me.
Well i open the attachment within outlook and it opens excel , but when i close it and want to open it later on i go to my storage card where i am saving my downloads to but the folder is empty , but when i check on the PC i can see the storage card does have it but as .att and i assume Excel is only can only find/look for .xls and .csv so i wondered where you can change the download settings for file extensions on the HTC HD2

Just to fulfil my curiosity, could you try saving an attachment in Location:Storage Card and Folder:None and be sure that it says Type:.xls (not that you can change that!)
When I do that, I can use file explorer to find the file in the root of my storage card. If you could try that and it doesn't work then there's definitely something funny going on!

ok i have tried the following i have downloaed a attachment and closed it found it saved it on my storage card the phone seems to have created a folder on my storage card inbox\mailattachments and i can see all my downloaded excel sheets saved as .att i renamed one to .xls and now i am able to see it when opening Excel and going to the folder strange .. still no close in knowing why it is saving as .att , maybe once i opened them the first time i have an option to save them as .xls which i doubt
strange problem bit annoying

Very strange problem indeed. You're obviously viewing files in a manner that shows you the extension, so what happens if you just change it to .xls instead of .att ?

yes i could rename them but that just annoying to always have to rename them so that i can view them at a later stage

Yeah, you're right, but it's obviously a problem somewhere. At least there's a solution for now. Maybe there's a user that has had similar issues and found a solution. Have you checked in non-Leo forums? This is a windows issue, rather than a phone-specific issue, so you may get more help there.

I really hope you've already done this, but there's an immediate suggestion from searching here...

Thank you, i have just tried that and its a lot easier to tap&hold and save as rather then having to rename all the docs
I would like it to be saved auto with the .xls extensions but to be honest i am happy with this as well as i can now also save it directly into the folders i need it to be in rather then having to move them .. which was another problem for me
Thank you very much for your help really appriciated

Pocket Outlook Database

Is there a way to copy the actual pocket outlook "Contacts database" file, which is found in the Database folder on the root of the device (seen through file browsing from pc)
To save a lot of time, i would like to copy this database file from one device, to several hundred. Scripted would be the best way to do this i would have thought.
Anybody know how?
Cheers.
thought i would give this a bump just incase anybody has any thoughts?
Still not sure how to get to the database, its in a protected area.
Thanks

relocate outlook data on wizard

There was a post in another thread here that hinted at this ability, but since that thread was general and 17 pages long I figured a dedicated one was worthy. Anyway, is there any registry setting that will put all outlook messaging (all mail accounts) to the storage card.
Here is the post that had a setting: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=234798#234798
I did what it said and it did make a file on /Storage Card/Inbox (where I said to put it) and it did not create a storage card2 like the post said... maybe because the new ROM starts the storage card before outlook now.
Thanks,
Edwin
Update: well I have figured out all future mail in the location. pretty cool, but what about the database it uses to reference these files. there must be a database somewhere that references each file that is each email (each email is a file in and of itself in the directory) and if there is a way to move these databases then we can reset at will and keep all of our data.
Update2: SMS and probably mms are not affected by this reg edit. any more to move these too?
I dunno if this will work but have you tried DBView?
www.magenic.com
it'll allow you to see what i think you want to see with the database stores

Are you saying you found a way to fix it so the system doesn't create a folder called "Storage Card"? Also, who else thinks its wierd that having attachments to the storage card doesn't cause this issue, just the mail itself.

On 2.16.9.1 it either doesn't have the startup issue or (since I made changes to startup folder, ie deleted poutlook) I do not have the Storage Card and Storage Card2 problem. Probably the reason it never happened with the attachments is because it doesn't read the attachments in any way to build teh default today screen (which I also do not have anything but spb diary, spb power plus, and the default date/clock bar.
But I still wonder were the rest of the data is stored... I can see the SMS and contacts being in the database that is part of WM5, but MMS I can't see being there and can't find anywhere else they could be.

Activesync - syncing files

I recently setup Activesync to sync files but i really only wanted it to sync a single Word Document file in My Documents on my Vario.
When it syncs it syncs the whole of the My Documents folder, which is crap cos this contains all my camera photos and videos and I dont want that. is there a way to just do files you want.
I managed to delete the files on my PC and it removed them on my Vario!
Also any new files that appear in My Documents on my Vario get automatically synced!
TIA
Doug
That would be difficult. What I suggest would be to move your not-wanting-to-syn files to your storage card or some folder in your root (e.g. not in the My Documents). Yeah, that would cause problems with many of your applications as it will look for My Document first and you would have to go and find your customized folder.
Anyway, you can try this (I didn't try it before). Create a shortcut in your My Documents that point to another folder where you keep all your real files, so that if your app open My Document, it would be easy for you to find that folder. But, still any photo taken by your camera will be still in My Document.
Anyway, there isn't much harm syncing all files. I mean, as long as the files are not changed, the isn't much time consumed in synching them. Better just leave them as they are

Email attachment can't be viewed

Hi Guys,
My Xperia is hooked up to my company's Exchange server. Some people have been emailing me with some attachments lately and it seems that some strange things happen when I click on some attachments.
If the attachment is an image, it gets opened and I see it. That's great.
However, doc files seem to be a problem. Some just open (great), others show "downloading" (the attachment icon changes with a green bar on it), the download progress bar finishes, the icon for the attachment changes back, and then..... nothing.
This seems especially common on "docx" files and "xlsx" files. I thought these were supported by Office Mobile (in fact I thought it FORCED saving in docx etc).
Can anyone tell me what's going on? I'm getting fed up of being teased by my iPhone using colleagues
Thanks
I don't know exactly but aren't docx files the latest Office Vista files? I think my Office 2003 can't open them and maybe Office mobile can't too?
Yes, you're right. It's office 2007 format but I was specifically told that WM6.1 would handle them.
The other weird thing is that it doesn't even offer to save the attachment to the filesystem for viewing later on via a PC over USB

Press&Hold the stylus on the attachement.
It will give you menu options (with save) without opening file.
.docx is a Vista doc format.
To read it better to use 3rd party software.
I have tried pressing and holding over the attachment but I just get a blank menu - one item high - but with no text. When I select the one entry, the menu just disappears.
I'm using the Vodafone R2A ROM. Can anyone else test to see if the attachment menu works?
Hmm, it seems pressing and holding the stylus over a doc file (ie a file which opens fine) gives me a "save as", but when doing it over an "unknown" file (ie "docx"), I get a blank menu with no save as and clicking on the empty menu does nothing - so this looks like intended behaviour. Really crap imho, I should be able to save a file to the memory stick if I want, even if the phone can't do anything with it.
Yeah, strange.
In fact all the .docs should be saved as .doc. I mean .docx format is still not widely supported, so can your company just change it?
Anyway, it's better to use a 3rd party app for this...
Yeah, I'll recommend they change but it's going to be hard persuading that many people

Right....I will check soon some other software for it...
docx and xlsx ARE supported on the X1
Although you'll find most of your customers and friends don't have support for it on their machines.
You can make your phone save files as .doc by default instead of .docx by going in to Word -> Menu -> Options... -> Default template: Word 97-2003 Document (.doc)
However not sure why Exchange isn't allowing you to save the .docx or open them.
As an update, I use Seven for my push email with Gmail.
Just sent a .docx file to my phone and it was able to download and then open the file in Word Mobile.
Thank you. You've just confirmed what I had always been told (part of the reason I got an Xperia).
It's really frustrating!
Sounds like a problem with your exchange server.
I don't use one so can't really help but I have sent and received docx files to my X1 with ease.
How about trying a different email client such as flexmail (webis) it's commercial but very good and supports imap.
there's a trial available so it might be worth seeing if that works.

[Q] Problem saving email attachments

hi all, as per title,
i have been sent some pictures into my yahoo accounrt.
i can view them on my phone but there is no option to save them :-(
does anyone have any ideas?
the options and settings are limited as i can see.
i did have an excel file i sent, that opened with quick office and gave me the option to save but then the file contains none of the data on the spreadsheet.
any advice or input would be wonderfuel.
thanks.
mahender.
solved i think
when email picture attachments are donloaded, the phone saves them in the camera folder under 'downloads'
it either also then adds them to 'all pictures'
or
i have had to move them using dual file manager i have installed.
if there is another way then please let me know
i think that it will also save anything from the email. i have deleted them now but there were little facebook banners and my yearbook banners in there too.
i dont really want to download every image from an email just what i choose.
regards
mahender.
