Rom Upgrades at least until Version 1.60.xxx - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM Development

There will be probably more roms available from HTC
There has been 1.48 few days ago with 1.49 already out and Ithink this will be going on until Version 1.60.xxx
The question might only be, how many Roms will there be between...
Why I think so?
That's simple .... because look at the TExt coming with the Camera Update
Update for HTC HD2 – Digital Picture Enhancement
Release Date: 2009-12-10
This update for HTC HD2 delivers clear digital picture quality like never before. Living up to the name of “HD” this phone and its twin LED flash will take beautiful pictures for you to cherish your memories. Displayed in brilliant vibrant colors on its 4.3 inch screen, HTC HD2 camera will delight you.
Installationsanweisungen:
Note: This update is only applicable to ROM version is equal to 1.60.XXX.X, or lower.
What do you think?

!.6 ROM............
Yeah I reckon they'll some more updates along the way.

Cool observation, but rom naming conventions mean nothing.
It's probably just overhead in case the patch won't get incorporated into roms prior to arbitrary 1.60.

This is all over the forums... 1.60 is in testing....

1.60, huh? still wm6.5?

I Think 1.6 roms are with WM 6.5.3

the 1.6 rom is the same windows version as 1.48... not a lot has changed, yet... this could always change if/ when the official rom is out

Touch by HTC, so yes
Update
How and when can i update my device???
How: Via USB ... Ok ok, I think it will be same way we do now with the ROM upgrade utility, but probably packaged in some installer like most of the official upgrades.
When: 6.1 just got announced, its up to HTC and the mobile operators to decide when they release an upgrade.

At Least I'm Running Custom Rom with WM 6.1 Pro already =D
custom cooked roms
Hi all,
I just bought a touch 1 gen ... i heard from a friend that it'll take awhile because HTC has a tendency to release it after they have marketed all their new 6.1 loaded devices ... i guess its their marketing strategy
meanwhile, can anyone tell me any interesting 6.1 Roms i can look at ... thanks.
lud
Wait wait wait......so we who own HTC Touch (GSM) have to wait for HTC to ship out the update? We just can't.....update?
Paul
wm 6.1 update
wow .. so basically the update wont be coming for a while ... does anybody know if the 6.1 roms are even worth putting on the device??
Doesn't seem like there's much in the 6.1 upgrade for WM-Pro users though, most changes are in the smartphone version.
I have it too
I use the customer WM6.1 Pro for HTC Touch, and I like it.. there ar a lot of flavors: lite and full, with more (or less) free ram for othr apps, etc.
http://www.comunidadwindowsmobile.es/index.php?action=forum
Whats the difference(s) between WM6 Pro and WM 6.1 anyway? I've done some reading on it but no where does it really say whats so different. I've even gone and looked at videos of it on youtube. Other then what looks like a new skin theme doesnt look like anything else really and I am sure theres more to it. Do you have finger gestures now built right into HTC home? Like swiping left to get to your schedual and what not? What about the HTC home... is that any different?
Here's what I've gotten so far:
Threaded SMS messages
New Internet Explorer
Runs a little smoother
But... whats the big WOW with the upgrade?
Thanks!
ok wm6.1 was in beta for awhile i think it still is but it has since been perfected and is released... but the only way to get it right now is using the customn roms which is way better then using any other rom found any where else trust me ive tried them all and cutoms the way to go!!
and the big wow is the fixed all the bugs in it the stopped the memory leak increased speed. made tit very stable, reduced the size of the os system it self also the did many different registery hacks and edits to make it much better, they added a prgram that is called getting started which helps with alot of stuf and it isnt just a step by step its a good program,
theres no new gestures like that but theres many programs that do that that can be added on such as spb shell 2.0 umm pointui and ultimate lauinch.... trust me its worth upgrading and ive had every system out there wm5.0 symbian wm6.0 and now 6.1 and now im working on making a wm7 like program but using 6.1 as a base
HTC WM 6.1
I have contacted hTC, the WM 6.1 update is not available yet, they are still working out the errors etc. but in a while, they would release the update.
check back http://www.asia.htc.com/asia/hk/index.html

latest official ROM

hi, are there any new official roms for the HD? i just got mine on orange and i wanna get any update out of the way so i dont loose my settings and stuff by having to flash it soon lol.....
There is no official update for the moment - just one version and it's on your phone ......
Slightly off-topic but is it normal for HTC to release upgrades for their products with new and improved features and applications? Or do they save these for the next product range and just send out the Hot Fixes to fix bugs?
With 16 months to go before my Orange upgrade it would be good to look forward to some HTC goodies.....but I am in a dream world?
Well I flashed to an Official ROM v1.19 WWE released in Asia.
The ROM feels quicker especially TF3D, more stable, bug fixes, minor software updates etc. No added features though but XDA will give you all the goodies.
Fantastic community!
HTC should be contributing some of their funds to XDA as it provides the best customer service.
I really wish HTC would issue some more official ROMs with all the software updates, rather than a few untidy patches.
I think HTC shoul extract Touch Flow a little from the hardware and giv all the new version to older phones, too.
It is a SMARTPHONE and has the ability to get enhanced.
Like apple does with the iPhone

Lets press the Company HTC! For old devices upgrade.

Do someone know when HTC will give out a new htc hd (blackstone) rom? maybe with colour Manila TAB. or something like that.
Because the stock rom is the fastest and most stabile ROM, I think! BUT not a pretty ROM, like the Manila 2.5 and W6.5**. It just need a OVERHAUL!
I think we can have W6.1 with... Manila 2.4 maybe hehe. not as fancy but cooler then Manila 2.1
LET's press the HTC, because they think everyone ****t money to buy a new device every month or week!
im happy with my HTC HD, but i think HTC has forget about us old-device-user! and they come out with upgrade to other "new" devices, but i want somthing to, somthing cool. and if xda and our worlds best developers can, then the htc company with the tecnologi can do it to! wtf i think, crapy done by htc! i have sent 1000 of mails too them and they keep say " dont know" then why do u work at support for god f###.. or? feks. the stock HD ROM have the ugly keybord, i want the new one on a stock rom.. so!
Sorry for my english =P but u guys understand what i meen!
Good Luck with that - Whilst I share your frustration that those who keep faith with Stock ROMs aren't rewarded with updates, the fact is that with the sheer amount of devices that HTC currently release year on year, the odds that some of it's back catalogue will get any such update are quite small.
I eventually gave in and flashed an XDA/Cooked ROM.

I have flashed xda cooked ROM, but our chiefs have stoped building ROMS with WM6.1, and manilla 2.1. And I prefer the speed and the stability of the WM6.1 and manilla 2.1.
Answer is no, and that is just the nature of business
There are too many new devices out there that they are focusing on (and still have issues), just to name a few, HD2, Nexus One, Desire...
Actually I don't mind them doing so, but at least make it easier for outsiders to access info on older chipsets (MSM), which to me is the main hurdle to maximize performance on the phones.

ok, ur right now as i thinking, but.. WHY! do everyone want WM6.5? is stil laggy after some use, at the begining its WOW cool and fast, stable, but after 2-3 weeks its starts to be slow. so, why not make the 6.1 even better and faster + new design ( manila 2.5) tabs? the rest dont have to be as "cool" as htc hd2 (leo) i allways use the kwbr topix rom, but im dont going from his rom topix 3.5 wwe =D anyway, his new rom topix 3.6 or somthing, is it wm 6.1 or 6.5? heh

u know why? because it takes effort to do software development, you need more people to support two platforms than one. It would have been nice if htc just upgrade/tweak manila 2.1 to 2.5. but from general use, you know that's not the case, as they behave differently (functionality is the same).
So why is this decision made? Could be many reasons, maybe feature, flexibility wise, 2.1 is just not good enough for the future, who knows?
For sure htc is not going to work on 2.1 & 2.5 to acheive the same goal, even though its for different phones, sadly in this industry the upgrade cycle is 6 months to 1 year (just like computers). I am not try to bash on the company, but take a guess which htc phone is at top quality in user experience (hardware & software) at release, and have good upgrades/support after 2 years. When you hang around xda long enough, you will know
ok, i understand now! HTC HD is dead. the company is thinkig about new phones. but if ill buy HTC Desire HD, do i have to keep installing coocked rom's frome here? The HTC Desire is not getting the "new" htc sense, ( htcsense.com) why? its so lalala stupid, look at the xp,vista and win 7. only new design, but u still have internett explorer and other stuff, i dont care about the design, only about nice updats.
thats why i dont like htc loonger, the forget about our phone after 5 months.
Pff, it's useless asking for updates for old HTC devices. They launch a dozen of phones every year. Their goal is to sell the new devices and earn money, not update the old ones for free. I use HTC Touch HD and i haven't seen any official updates on their site, except for some bug fixes and an official ROM which does nothing more than my preinstalled ROM. Haven't checked the updates for other HTC devices, but it's obviously they didn't give a damn about HTC Touch HD immediately after its release.

Really??? You want to go back to that dark place
Personally I see Android as an advancement on wm6.5 (even Android 1.6)
I haven't heard that they would be installing wm ROMs on this device.
If your after WinMo the HD2 is your best bet.
thank you for the reply, its down to my preference that i was looking for wm6.5 for this device, i use a htc blackstone but i found the cpu is a bit sluggish!!
i have debranded my x10 but the android 1.6 (doughnut) is a very basic version and feel the snap-dragon cpu is not thriving on this firmware, is there talk of a update for this?
regards
Then get HTC HD2. It is a nicer device.

Yeah I used to have the touch HD too. It did seem kinda sluggish after a while. As I said before the HD2 is the update to the blackstone with 6.5 and a 1ghz processor.
As for the X10, the software is the limiting factor here, but there is planned
update for the x10. The update will bring a later version of Android 2.1, which should make the device snappier. It also brings updates to the Scapes and 720p recording.
Unfortunately the update is planned for the latter part of Q3. The sad thing is newer, faster versions of android will be available then, but not for us.
Unless the device is rooted before then and custom ROMs are created it probably won't get any faster.

After months of "improving" my HD2 with custom roms.

Let me give you some background information. 2 years ago I was taken in by the beauty of the Sony Ericsson Xperia x1i.
Now while this phone looked amazing the interface was really bad and I was forever getting frustated.
Then I discovered this site and Then it happened! I became a flashing addict!.
I loved Itjes Touch it series with manilla and windows mobile 6.5/.5 builds which made the phone alot more usable.
So April came round and I was due an upgrade and I heard alot of buzzing about the HTC HD2 and after watching lots of videos and reviews I knew this is what I needed.
Now the unit I got was an 02 branded unit and it worked excellent but I knew it would be a matter of time before my addiction takes over and before I knew it I was flashing a diffrent rom everyday.
But I have found there to be so many bugs and problems with the custom roms that last week I decided to return to the stock o2 rom and I have to say the phone now just works! no problems, no lag during streaming, no glitches.
So I think I am done with the flashing random roms thing now.
Anyone else returned to the stock roms after feeling disatisfyied by customer roms?
Never tried flashing yet, I am on stock 1.66.707.1 ROM
I too had Sony Ericsson Xperia x1i and like you decided to flash it. I really didn't like the custom UI so decided to revert back to the stock ROM. But - on account of me being a complete noob - I somehow managed to brick the phone!
So I claimed, and got the HD2.
So far I’ve not flashed any custom ROMs as I don't really want to run the risk of destroying my beloved HD2 and I’m actually happy with the stock ROM (1.72.206.3) and using CHT I just customise everything else - pretty much on a daily basis!
Very tempted to flash it with android when it's fully ready, but I guess only time will tell if that happens.
there arent problems...but i dont wanna brick my hd2 because of "i wanna have the newest thing" blablaaa
maybe i'll flash android, but as long as my stock 1.48 wm rom is working, im pretty happy...thanks to cookie
DN41
The energy rom on my phone runs 100% smoother with 10,000% less glitches and lockups than the stock Tmous one did
I know everyones opinions are diffrent which is fair enough. But for me I have found the stock roms to be the best and most reliable.
Not taking anything away from our chefs as I know they do an excellent job but Custom roms are not for everyone.
I think I just want a phone that just works and does not need to be constantly tweeked for it to do some of the simpletest tasks.
yea after years of flashing i no longer use custom roms, I do however use tweeks to get it how i want it, no rom is perfect for everyone. I just got fed up of all the different roms that promised loads and where no better than stock imho.
I've flashed so many times I don't set up my quicklinks anymore. I just have grey squares showing and in a couple days I'll reinstall a new set of grey squares aka flash a new rom. My G2 arrives on the 5th.

See this is how i was too at first.. the Tmous rom was more unstable than the worst rom on here.. i had to pull the battery on my wifes and my phone at LEAST daily the first week we had them.. Chasing that dragon and trying every new flash the second it comes out might not be the way to go as far as stability. but i DO know Tmous stock rom was garbage.
So maybe your O2 stock rom is just a more stable rom off the shelf than ours was.. in which case youll understand why it is hard to relate.

Thats a very fair statement, I have no experiance of what the TMOUS rom is like so am not able to speak of all types on stock roms.
But as far as the O2 rom goes its just boot screen and a wallpaper otherwise it is the generic 1.72 rom and mius the wifi router which I have installed anyway.
I agree with the above post where alot of chefs make promises for vast speed improvement etc where really its just the same as any other rom.
Ive read that the O2 roms are pretty bad.........
I was stock for a good 6 or 7 months until I flashed an energy rom, the only reason I flashed was to see what all the fuss was about........
The first t mobile rom that came with the phone (1.66 i think) was stable however there was no youtube client, installing any of the youtube clients available always led to me losing the ability to use media players and the htc video player, apart from that the rom was ok........
The next official t mobile rom (1.72) was absolutely fine, i never experienced a problem. Like I said, I got fed of reading about how great custom roms were and decided to see what all the fuss was about.....
I even got an arsey comment from someone on here about how I must be "the only person on here still using a stock rom" lol
I flashed the energy rom thats in my sig and have stuck with it to this day because it "just works" its faster than the stock, has no bloatware and nice extras like shake2save rotate screen etc... the downside is the battery life....
That said, If I had to go back to a stock rom i really wouldnt be that bothered... I guess I was lucky that the tmo uk one was a good one though...
See My Siggy
I have tried various roms including the stock rom that came with my phone....
The stock rom SUCKS.
Energy was good; Chucky was good for android but minimal (not complaining).
Current rom is better than stock and great for Android....
Stock Roms are buggy too, just after awhile; slow respone and lagging becomes "acceptable". I had a MotoRokr E8 for a year! I know what slow and unresponsive means......
The Chefs here often exceed the stock rom's abilities and functionality....
KUDOS TO THE CHEFS.
running the stock t-mobile us rom here on a 3 week old phone and absolutely no issues other than THIRD PARTY apps not exiting correctly but that was resolved with a restart of the deice and the apps have been good since
you can try Duttys ROMs if you haven' yet. The best for me. No Bloatware, close to stock, extremely fast and stable and as always, Android friendly.
I had a few problems with the original Tmo us rom but nothing bad enough to make me leave it. The upgraded version while still buggy is much better. Again, I have no desire to leave it though. When the next iteration of this phone hits perhaps I'll switch But without tethering WM7 is out of the question until it gets put in.
The stock and latest TMobile ROM for the HD2 runs very well.
I did not want to change it after doing all the registry tweaks and 3D Drivers, etc.
Then Android came and I had to make a move.
I tried several custom ROMs, and you are right, they all were not me.
Some had stuff I did not like, and in my opinion, were not better than stock.
Until I found the ENERGY ROM in my signature.
It still needs a few registry tweaks and LEOCPU, but once is set, it is the best ROM I ever had.
I think is perfect.
Very organized, clean, beautifull and fast.
It has the latest drivers from the HTC Oboe, the new WM6.5 Devise to be released now in October 2010 in China.
Lots of improvements over stock ROM. In communications, system upgrades, software, etc.
Including the most recent release of Sence for Windows Mobile, version 2018.
So yes, there are better than stock ROMS out there.
The last update for the HD2 was on May 2010.
NRGZ28 has incorporated updates in his latest Energy ROM, that are 4 to 5 months newer.
I've always liked stock roms. I ran the stock TMOUS TP2 WM 6.1 ROM forever, since I heard the 6.5 ROMs ate all the memory. I'm currently still running the 2.13 stock rom on my TMOUS HD2, but I'm considering the leaked pie rom.
Well, I am running 1.66 Stock ROM, CHT 1.61 and had no single freeze the last 6 months, my HD2 softresetted once a week after SPB Backup or after a flight.
I applied almost all reg tweaks posted in tips&tricks, use BsB and thats fine for me.
What prevented me from flashing custom ROMs was that I ALWAYS read carefully the comments of the users flashing it. And there is no single custom ROM where it reads ONLY: runs flawless.
So this is mostly not the fault of the cook though but the fact that we have to deal with so many languages and providers that prevent a cooked ROM from running flawlessly in any language and provider environment.
Of course the cooks program their ROMS in their native lang and with the preliminaries of their provider so this is why their ROMS simply cant work flawlessly on EVERY HD2 in this world.
Maybe this is why the upcoming WP7 is so restrictive in hard- and software to guarantee a smooth function in every country with every provider (in case it WILL run smooth )

+1 here for Dutty's ROMs. Fantastic, close to stock, yet running latest Sense etc. Have been great for me and no need to keep updating - I just update on major changes and I'm well happy with it.
I'm the opposite had my hd2 from vodafone with just about the worst ROM that could have been provided constantly crashing and generally rendered my phone unusable so fed up with waiting for vodafone to release an update i flashed a custom rom and ain't looked back i was using energy's rom but for the last week I've been using elegancia rom without HTC messaging and I'm amazed how good it is also using darkstone Android and no issues with either makes my phone awesome
