I apologize if this has already been asked. I *DID* search around this site, several others and even Google but no one seems to have posted a comparison of extended battery compatibility along with pros/cons of the expanded battery cover backing...
So, like everyone else, my Tilt doesn't last overnight w/o a recharge. In looking at my options for extended batteries, it looks like the largest are the Mugen 3000, the Seidio 3200 and the Mobi 3000.
I'm curious as to peoples opinions on these major points:
1-Duration coupled with whether the battery causes lock-ups/freezes or other errors for the phone...
2-How the revised back cover of the phone compares to the OEM cover with respect to the camera lens, speaker and GPS.
3-Cases and cradle chargers that will work w/ extended battery covers...
4-Tweaks or other hacks needed for the Tilt to recognize the extended battery time.

Instead of other I think you should have put the option of " I dont know". I think people clicked for the sake of clicking to see the results quicker. My 2 cents.
extended battery
I have a Boxwave 2700 mah and a Seidio 1600 mah battery. The boxwave is from Taiwan with a humped back cover, so I can use my Seido holster, but will not fit in my cradle. Does fit into my Brodit car holder though, and the full backed extended battery cover will as well.
I cannot for the life of me get the correct battery reserve power reading correct. I have tried every tweak and twitch I have read and perused the registry for settings not mentioned elseware, as well as various 3rd party battery utilities, to no avail. Quite frustrating, as I can alarm on low battery, pull it out, put it back in and have 45-60% battery left on the meter. Don't know what else to do, as it does it with my 1600 and 2700 and did it with a "borrowed' Mugen 3000 for a test. Tried all the reccomendations of running it fully down and doing recharge, all that stuff, still wrong indicaitons of remaining power.
This is my greatest frustration right now with the Tilt I have and the other 8 I have bought for employees.

I ordered the Seidio 3200 battery and tried charging it in my AT&T 8925 Tilt. I left it on charge until the light turn Green.
Starting using it and within 8 hours I was at LOW battery and system died. I removed the battery and put it back in and the battery indicated goes up to 73%.
What is the deal here. Is it my phone that does not understand that it has a larger battery or is it the battery. Since that time I have sent the battery and got a new one and the same thing.
Is there some software utility to tell the Pocket PC that it has a larger battery.
Confused....????...!!!!

As I sit here perusing options for replacement Wizard and Kaiser batteries (my sister's phone and my own...) I suddenly fear the pointlessness of choosing an extended battery! Has any headway been made on these extended battery glitches in general?
Nope. The Tilt's hardware always expects the standard battery's capacity, and will turn off when that is reached even if the battery is actually twice the capacity and is still half full.
So what you're saying is buying an extended battery is useless because it will shut off at the regular Tilt battery level? Well, glad I read this thread, I won't waste my money.
Yep. However you can remove/reinsert the battery and have more running time again. But then in that case as you have to turn the device off and open the case anyway you're better off getting a 2nd standard battery and swapping it when it's empty. Saves you from having a Kaiser that's twice as thick for nothing.
What About....
Well, I think one objective would be to try charging it as often as possible. It may be that if you plug it back into a charger, it will grant an extension of time. But in the event you are unable to charge it, you could simply remove and reinsert the battery to continue on. Has anyone tried this? I'm curious to know.

Could someone please clarify this as I find it confusing as well, I'm just using the times and percent for reference to understand.
Lets say with the stock battery it takes 8 hours to get to 40%.
Will an extended battery like those listed give me longer, like maybe 10-12 hours before it gets to 40%?
I too have searched and read everything from people swearing to get no extra time at all no matter what they do, to people getting double the talk/data time and everything in between, including but not limited to that the usable time gets longer with each recharge. If I'm going to have to take the battery out 3 times a day, I might as well just get 4 or 5 extra stock sized batteries for the same price.
Looking for someone to clear the fog...

If I could get 3 more hours before shut-down, that might be worth it. It would mean 90% of the time, I'd get 12 hours of use as long as I didn't need the GPS. It would have meant last week I would have not spent an extra 30 minutes on ice because the GPS quit with less than a mile to go, but I didn't know which way, and I had not way to charge it, so I spent an extra 45 minutes trying to find the highway home when it was time to leave. Just 3 extra hours would have been perfect.
I can't tell you how many times an extra 30 minutes even would have made all the difference in the world, and I really can't think of a time when I needed more than a couple hours.
I realize I'm playing to its weakness. I rarely use the phone itself, but I'm always in email, rss feeds, web browsing, listening to music and using the GPS.
If an extended battery will get me through a normal workday without having to rush home to charge it... That would make me a happy camper.
I have the Mugen 3000
I have the seidio 3200 and after i fully charged it for the first time use, I use it for like 12 hours of txt, calls, internet and normally at the end of the 12 hours i have about 20% of battery left. Just mainly depends on what ROM your using, what radio your using and what programs you have running. Just because 5 people have the same battery doesnt mean all 5 people use their phones for the same thing. Best thing i found is find the one with the highest battery life and go with it.
Anyone have any idea how good this extended battery is for the Tilt?

Tilt Extended Battery?
I have heard some mixed stories about some of the extended batteries from actualy users.
First looking at the 2800 size battery:

- the battery fits in the phone perfect
- the new back cover given is high quality, fits nicely, and looks great

CONS:
- just one, but it is a big one. so, the original battery is 1350mAh, right? well, that wasn't getting it done at all. we're talking 8-10 hours a charge with minimal phone calls. i do have exhange push email and another pop email that i am checking. that is most of the battery drain i imagine. fine, so i saw this and thought, "perfect, 3000mAh! this should get me a whole lot more time". well, as i finding out, not really. to be fair, i am getting more time. i would say 12, maybe 14 hours. a net gained of 4 hours. that seems strange to me for a battery that is 2.5 times as big. anyway, just want to give you a heads up so there isn't too much disappointment. helps me get a full day with my unit...If this doesn't help I might consider the Iphone because I hear that is getting a full day of juice with one charged regular battery.

I bought the 2800 Mah battery. And it came with a ugly back door so i order the nice door that looks similar to the orignial cover. Well the 2800 works better and last longer. it mite last longer n better if you have a custom firmware. cuz im running the 6.1 n i heard the battery dies fast from it. But with the extended battery my phone dosent die fast.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 has horrible battery life. The 1650mah battery will not suffice to anyone but light users.
In my eyes, there are many unacceptable solutions:
- Disabling battery hungry features (lowering screen brightness, undervolting CPU, uninstalling certains apps, disabling real-time sync, etc.) - I find this compromise unacceptable, I bought this device to use it with all its glory.
- Using a larger extended battery - I find this solution unacceptable, since in order for a poweruser to get through the day, at least a 3000mah battery is required. Such a battery, although exist for the S2, adds significant weight and bulk. The device becomes ugly and uncomfortable to carry around.
- Upgrading to a device with much better battery life - currently there are two, the Motorola Maxx, which I find ugly, and the Samsung Note 2, which is realy big to handle...
So, after much thought and experimentation, I finally want to report my success story (yes it's an old solution, but somehow most don't understand its enourmous power): I'm using a secondary battery. I bought another original 1650mah battery (with a seperate charger). The 1650mah battery is very light and small, so it easily fits inside my very small wallet. When I need to switch (middle day), I clocked the switch at just under 60 seconds (from pressing the power off button, to being able to fully use the device again with a fresh battery including the rubber case installed).
This is such a simple solution, it has practically zero drawbacks (If you don't mind losing 60 seconds of your life everyday...), it gives you the equivalent of a 3300mah battery (which is much more than any extended battery advertized as being 3300mah, even Mugen's), yet so few people use it...
wowwww you wrote all this just to tell us you have a secondary battery.
I know, it seems like an overkill but really, I spent 1.5 years trying to solve the S2 battery problem without huge compromises (and everything else apart from a secondary battery is a huge compromise), and I can only regret I didn't read a post like mine...

samsungs 2000mah extended battery iis realy good its just pricey
Don't see how this 'sollution' is from a different category than the other ones you've stated.. It all depends on the user, and what he/she knows about saving battery without UC and stuff.
Maybe you would last longer with one battery if your stories would be shorter

I thought I made it clear why the extra battery is a solution of a different category
- It allows you to have all the phone's features ON.
- It allows you to enjoy its comfortable, light and slick original design.
- It allows you to enjoy the equivalent of a *true* 3300mah battery.
- Minimal fuss (60 sec battery switch).
Nothing can come close to such a solution (for a power user who needs a long lasting phone). Practically no drawbacks, only benefits (in comparison to any other solution, which always present a severe compromise).
I think it's rather a good advice, than a "solution". And indeed, this is a feature you will miss whent it's gone: The replaceable battery. I've bought the 2000 mAh battery by Samsung. So I have the greater battery plus a secondary one, if needed.

Btw, are the 1650mah and 2000mah batteries interchangeable ? I thought they use different battery cover...

you really cant notice the samsung extended battery is any bigger, especially if you have a case on your phone then it is impossible to tell. Much better than carrying and charging two batteries imo!
I dont have the extended battery and when using my phone hard over the day i can get 5 hours screen time on standard size anker battery. Have you tried using BBS to workout why your battery life is soo poor?

But you can't compare two 1650mah batteries to one 2000mah battery... the 3300mah solution gives you 65% more juice...
Regarding carrying an additional 1650mah battery, it's so small and light (30 grams) that after putting it in my wallet I forget about it completely. Charging two batteries is no fuss at all, if you have a seperate battery charger.
You are getting 5 hours screen time on 1650mah battery ? for me this is impossible, while every feature is ON (real time sync, auto brightness, facebook app, normal volt, constant 3G connection) I get this amount from two batteries (but the phone operates much more than 5 hours, more like 20). I do have bad reception at my work, which might drain the battery more.

And 2000 + 2000 is even better
But really, 3300mah is more than anyone would require in 1 day. It's really an overkill in itself (it's more than the Note 2 battery, and for a much smaller screen...).

How do you charge both of the batteries? I mean you have one s2, or you use external charger to charge extra battery?
And My S2 lasts a day with 3hour of music, 4hour of screentime! No undervolting or compromise, Wifi n Data mostly on, I even use Google Now! Stweaks settings for best performance!

Yes, I use external charger to charge the extra battery ($10 on ebay), and another $25 for the extra original 1650mah battery.
I think the battery life has a lot to do with the signal quality, and the signal sucks at my workplace (also, if you are using WIFI instead of 3G you'll again save a lot in battery, but I'm using 3G...).

I use both, but mostly Wifi.
Edit: And I don't like keeping it on minimum brightness, it kinda changes colors in S Amoled. White seems yellowish, grey becomes something else, so I keep it around 35-40%

Has anyone tried this, and if so, what are your opinions? 3500 mAh is a massive force of battery life, even though I am sure the parts are not that quality from looking at the 8~10$ average eBay price.
So should I get this battery to serve me as an extra/backup one?
It will be actually much much lower mah then its mentioned for 8$ believe me.

I have one. Not sure about the total mAH but the battery seems at least better than my old stock battery. No one makes a good case for a Defy with the extended battery. I've resorted to running the phone naked. I might get some gaffers tape to add some protection.
Also keep in mind your water resistance goes away with the extended battery. Not a big deal if you are careful. The bigger battery combined with a battery saver to turn off data/wifi when screen is off allows the battery to easily last more than a day.
Edit: I changed back to my old OEM battery. The extra bulk made the phone too annoying to carry. There was extra battery life but the meter did not reflect the upgrade so it was hard to gauge. It's annoying to be running at 0-1% for a few hours because it could die anytime.
I have them on my Note2 my S4 and my Galaxy Nexus
Idk how i could ever have another phone without them.
The reasons i ask this is because i don't think any builder will ever put a big enough battery to really make it count because of the thickness.
Hats off to Moto for being bold, but still we need 5000mah for good measure.
What is your take community? Do you like Phones that last for DAYS!?
My phone lasts for a full day, and I prefer to charge nightly. My bigger problem anymore is that I prefer to charge when the battery level is in the teens or lower, and it takes some effort to get it to drop that far in a full day's usage. Having a larger battery, especially when sacrificing aesthetics isn't something that I want. Especially when it makes it harder to find decent cases.
I've always just carried an extra battery in my pocket. It only take a minute or so to swap them, and that way the phone isn't any thicker in the hand.

Comes with an extra battery, downside is it take close to 5 hours to charge and sometimes ill forget and overcharge the battery. imho its the best accessory i have bought

If I had an extended battery, my pocket would be thicker anyway!
I don't have an extended battery, but I have 2 extra backup batteries that are always fully charged before I go out in my pocket. Does that count?

Went with Ankor's kit that gave me two extra standard batteries and a external charger. I always keep one extra battery on me, one in the phone, and one in the charger (till fully charged). Rotate them for even use. I always let them dip to 10% at least before changing. One usually lasts me a full 24 hours. Usually 50-25% by the time I go to bed. Then I use the rest up in the morning checking news before i get my lazy self out of bed.
Currently I am between the stock battery and my zl 7500. When I had the Note 2 I never even looked for an extended battery because I was always good for power. With the S4 I can still make it the entire day on stock battery but to me I always worry when the battery gets to 30 percent.
So if I like playing games that day I put in the ZL and I don't worry. When I am working in typically just stick with stock because it lasts.
For me I think 4000 would be perfect for stock. 3 years we will be there.
