TomTom on this phone? - Touch2 General

How do I install TomTom on this phone? I have tried to install from a cab file that I used successfully on a Touch Pro but the installation fails on the Touch2 reporting the application as incompatible.
Can you please point to a TomTom cab file that works with WM6.5?
Even better if it is a version where I can activate a free local map as in fact that's all is need on this phone....
Thanks.

There are certain sources that provide QVGA cabs, google is your friend.

The QVGA version easily found googling has problems with WM6.5: it screws the Bluetooth stack.

Ah that explains why my bluetooth isnt working anymore, well Navigation is more useful then bluetooth for me.

Do this and both bluetooth and tomtom will work.

i didn't have a problem with tomtom 7 installing on the htc touch 2 aka mega.
I even got it working with my external gps. so bluetooth doesn't stop working with my cellphone. I will try tomtom 7 + bluetooth external GPS + Bluetooth earphone this evening to test if even that will work

After installing TT7 just delete these 2 files BtSdkCE30.dll & BtCoreIf.dll from Windows directory. Bluetooth stack will work again

Touch2 Tomtom screenshot
Can any post a screenshot of Tomtom on the Touch2 please.
I'm thinking of buying this phone but i'm afraid the screen will be too small for tomtom.
Would be much appreciated.

From the small test i did, it works fine although it seems to suffer a small lag, it remembered my previous diamond, ...
Here a screenshot i've take inside my home, for me the visual it's good ( not awesome but still good )

Good enough to use. Bought this phone. Loving it more the more i use it.
Thanks for the trouble making the screen. xx

tomtom works fine on my HTC with MEGA:
tomtom navigator 7910
Wester Europe

Please, how to delete those 2 files

You can make the visual map screen bigger by selecting less elements in the statusbar....I use only remaining distance, arrival time and speed.....
Also the colorscheme you use makes quite a difference in visibility...can recommend you "default contrast" for the day and Vapno for the night. Via TomTom website many many schemes available.

Trouble installing Navigator 7
I have a Touch 2 with Windows 6.5 and recently bought Tomtom Navigator 7 on a memory card from Handtec. I had trouble getting it to install so here are my notes & instructions which I hope will help others in future.
The Tomtom web site says that the Touch 2 is compatible with Navigator 7 but when I tried to install the software it said my device was incompatible with the version of software. Strangely, given that Navigator 7 is supposed to be new, the newest “modified” date of any of the software on the memory card is June 2009, more than a year ago.
I logged a question with Tomtom support after logging into my account on their web site. After asking me to send them a copy of my invoice for purchasing Navigator 7 they said there was a software update ttn7.zip which I could download from the web site. The support response was very prompt – less than half an hour – but their installation instructions were poor and it took several rounds of questioning to figure out what actually had to be done.
I had copied the contents of the Tomtom memory card on to my own card. The correct instructions for the update are as follows:
- with ttn7.zip downloaded from Tomtom and on the PC, click on it in Windows Explorer to display the contents.
- This is a folder called ttn7. Click on it again in Windows Explorer to display the contents.
- You will see two items – start.exe and a folder called “2577”
- Delete the existing folder “2577” on the memory card (which had been copied from the Tomtom memory card earlier
- copy the new “2577” folder from the Tomtom download on to the memory card so it takes the place of the old “2577”
- there is no need to copy start, exe as a version with the same date is on the memory card
- With the Touch 2 off, load the memory card
- Power the Touch 2 on.
- During the power up process the Tomtom software will auto-install
- Worryingly my Touch 2 gave the same old warning message that the device is incompatible with the version of the Navigator but the installation process ignored this and carried on.
- Tomtom will prompt for the usual installation questions including the activation code that came on a sheet of paper with the memory card
- From now on it’s a case of answering the questions and configuring the various options to taste. Navigator 7 seems to work fine although I haven’t taken it out in the car yet.

I also get an error when installing. A few folks have extracted the files from the cab, renamed the files according to the xml included, and are able to use it. Now just waiting on someone to kindly post those files, but it seems like it should work soon enough.
i used wince cab manager to extract the files to the appropriate folders. still no go. when launch, it still says that the app is not compatible with the device.
here is a cab file that will work on the titan.... don't ask where to find maps you're on your own

Just installed Tom Tom 7.450.9028 with USA_and_Canada 720.1803 map and it works just fine.
Be sure to put the Map and Voices in their own folder on the storage card
I have Garmin XT 50 and Tom Tom 7 on my device - both work fine. Waiting to try IGO8 whenever they finally release the version 8 maps. Come on NAV-N-GO !!!
I still prefer using my bluetooth GPS versus the onboard GPS

Interesting...
I currently have the latest TT6 with latest 675.xx U.S. maps. What actual changes/improvements can we expect in TT7?
I was also wondering if they have fixed an annoying bug in TT6. Any time you launch TT6 it ALWAYS defaults to disabling Audio and you have to manually go into preferences and enable it _twice_ before you get sound. This is a documented, well known issue and it deals with how TT6 detects the radio as an active data connection and thus mutes audio since it thinks a communication is open (or something like that, may have it wrong). I believe it is designed to work like this as its present in all builds but it is a bit annoying.

ttn7 interface had some touch up, but remain pretty much the same as tt6. however, there are several big improvements, including the ability to use newer map and the ability of mapshare/map correction, and stronger and better routing engine. newer map is always better. all of the verson tt 6 maps were missing my cousin new area and my girlfriend's neighborhood. version 7 map has them. i havent got a chance to get mapshare working with my titan yet, but hope it would work one day. i tested the routing with tt7 by entering several destinations that im familiar with, such as my brothers and my sisters's places, parents and friends home, and tt7 gives me the best route that i would likely take. with the destinations that i have tried, i can say that routing of tt7 is much better than, iguidance, garmin xt, and tt6.
the voice/audio bug that you mentioned with tt6 6.032 is not there in tt7. for the same reason, i used tt6 6.02 instead of 6.032. tt6.02 doesnt have this issue. for some reasons, tt6.032 doesnt see your voice file at launch.
Just got this going right now after an interesting install. Works great, love having the newest map and engine. If anyone needs a walkthrough PM me and I will help as much as I can.

You will need to put the map and voices folders on the root of the sd card. The program cab should be run and they will find each other.
Is there another mirror for the app (not the maps, the app)? The one posted earlier in this thread was removed from rapidshare, and this one doesn't seem to work on the titan.

GPS lag and other things

Hi,
I've got a Touch HD with Tomtom 7, unfortunately the refresh rate (30-40m lag) is shocking (5secs). My ROM is the stock on and I bought my touch HD at the start of the year.
Tom tom 6 on my brother's touch HD (with a new ROM) has refresh rate of at least 3 times a second and it is quite precise.
What would be the problem the ROM or the software itself?
Also what is the latest version of the ROM? If I upgrade I need to backup the tomtom7 maps and files. Will tom tom 7 work if I copy it to my computer / storage card then copy back to internal memory?
Lastly I can't find the Tom Tom files on the phone - not in prgram files, only found the maps - which is on the storage card...
Thanks for your help
The so called tomtom GPS lag has been discussed to death on this forum, so I suggest you use the search function...
The actual tomtom software is located on the device in program files\navigator. But if you need to reinstall, it's best to do it with the org install files. If you just copy the navigator map back to your device, you'll miss the system files and registry entries.

Has anyone gotten TomTom to work on this device yet?

I just got the T-Mobile USA version of the TP2. Here's my issue:
Ok, I have legal maps and software from when I purchased TT6 that I used with my P3300. I tried to use the same TT6 program on the TP2, but it screwed up my BT stack and it wouldn't run anyway. So I downloaded two different versions of TT7 (7.450 & 7.910) that will run, but neither of them can find my US & Canada maps. Is there a way to use TT7 with TT6 maps or is there another version of TT6 that will work with the TP2?
I also went to the TomTom website to see if I could buy new maps. They don't even give you an option to buy it if your phone didn't come preinstalled with TomTom. SUCKS!
TomTom 7.915 installed and working fine here with Western European maps.

Thanx for all the info guys. I'll def use it in the future, but I was able to get US & Canada maps, vers 660 recognizable with TT7.450 by changing the vers#, build#, and ID#. I also had to reregister my maps using my product code. I didn't have any problems after that.
FYI, I could not get some versions of TT7.910 to install as a CAB. Those had to be unbacked first. I did get TT7.450 to install with no problems, but I had to:
1) install it to the SD card first
2) hard reset my device (because the install screws up your BT stack on TP2)
3) then make my short cuts from the storage card
Now all is working fine. I just don't get update features and the better looking maps.
TomTom 7 indeed seems to mess up your BT stack. However removing the dlls it adds on installation fixes this issue, a hard reset is not necessary (I know this won't help you anymore, but it might benefit the next guy )
I've been using TT7 for a while now, it works perfectly and so does my bluetooth.
The files you need to remove/rename are:
\Windows\BtSdkCE30.dll
\Windows\BtCoreIf.dll
There, my first post. I'm new but I quite like this place already.

You should have a "voices" folder on the root of your storage card. If you can connect to TomTom Home on your desktop, you can down load them to your phone. Or you can find them on the net. They're not hard to come by. But you should check to see if your voices folder is on your storage card somewhere.

Were you able to copy the Garmin maps to another storage card or did you have to keep it on the storage card that came with the software? I was looking at buying the Garmin software but that uncertainty made me hesitant.

Ow yes, you'd need something like Total Commander to view/remove .dll files in the /Windows directory. Neither the default WM Explorer or the W7 explorer when USB-linked could do that here.
TT7 works fine here, just some GPS lag and hardware keyboard adds some weird 'a' character after each normal character.
Had BT troubles with some older version, downloaded the latest I could find and had no troubles at all.

Got TomTom 7.915 working fine on TP2, with no issues with BT. Australian and US/Canada maps installed. Installed onto device, with maps on SD card. With voice working.
i have tt7 working for me, here is what I did.
installed tt7 to my sd card then hard reset (because i have all sorts of problems with the bluetooth)
copy my voices files to sd card\program files\navigator\voices
my maps are in the root of the sd card
then use total commander to create a short cut to the program.
I havent had anymore problems at all and it works first time I have flashed my phone 6 times so far and I dont have to reinstall it.
I hope this helps someone here
I read the issues with TT7 so tried to do Garmin XT - City Navigator 2010.10 install. I have it working successfully with Voice, Traffic and Fuel prices.
BTW, I am newbie unlike most people here

There is may be a workaround here but i don't know about it. Officially Tomtom home won't support HD2. But use a t7.915.cab will be the easiest way to install Tomtom in the HD2 and it works great. You can find this cab file also here in xda. Just search

TomTom Home 1.5 on XP does work with HD2 but there is no map share and you can not download anything. All it does is recognise the handset.
P.S. If you have active traffic subscription, you don't need to connect your HD2 with TomTom home to update traffic. Just enter your account details in to the MY ACCOUNT section in TomTom software on your handset and enjoy!
TomTom Home does'nt currently support HD2 so we need to wait for an update. I notice in your SIG that you have a touch Diamond,If you still have it, You can update the map on your Diamond and transfer the 4 files needed to HD2 (MapServerPatch,ServerLineIndex,ServerNameIndex,PatchFilter)

These are the files placed in your map folder by TomTom home, used for the mapshare updates. You can tell by the dates on the files, eg. if you update the map today, those 4 files will be dated todays date. If you copy them over to your HD2 Map then you will have the latest mapshare update.
I can install Tomtom Navigator 6 on my HD2 up to the point that the cabs are moved onto my SD card (16GB) and the card is installed. At that point the cab installs successfully and TomTom opens a setup screen, which seems to ask the interface language and left/right hand preferences. But this screen is scrambled (wrong resolution) so it's impossible to enter a response and it locks up. Has anyone got a work-around for that?
Strangely, that happened the first time I installed on the TyTnII; but then I was able to make out enough to press the right buttons and it worked fine after that.
Tomtom version 6 or 7
I tried to install tt6 - installation from cab without problems - but cannot open the program. Installed tt7.915.916 black, but it cannot recognize my maps from Western europe or Scandinavia - and installation was not possible on SD card.
I bought a licence from TT (version 6) and the programme was running very well on my HTC 3300. Are someone able to solve that problem ?

[Q] Anybody knows how to use TT Navigator 7 on HP ipaq 6915 ?

I know this is not the real key forum for Navis but I thought I give it a try as my prob could be related with the OS.
And I know this device is not in the compatibility list for TomTom Navigator 7 but usually the TT Navi7 works on Win 5 and Win 6 devices.
I have:
- an HP ipaq (model hw6915) with
- Windows Mobile WM 5 (searched this forum for a Win 6 ROM and it looks like some smart guys are currently working on that so I could not yet give it a try with Win 6)
According to the ipaq user manual, the device has this GPS receiver installed:
- GL20000 from Global Locate. In case a manual setting is required for a software, the ipaq manual mentions to set it to COM 7 and a BAUD rate of 57600.
Here is my problem:
I had installed Navigator 6 and it worked fine – but with outdated maps as the new maps require Navigator 7. So after some years of using the old Navigator 6 I installed now the TomTom Navigator 7.917.9186 plus the recent Europe 2GB maps.
The new Navigator 7software starts fine and accepts the new map, but it does not recognize the internal GPS antenna. I receive the message “no GPS devide”. Then I tried a bit and switched (in TomTom Navigator settings) from the “internal” to “other NMEA GPS receiver” and tried different Baud rates. With this setting the Navigator does receive GPS signal – once in a while (1 signal about every minute – just enough to locate the current position but not enough to really navigate).
So obviously the Navigator 7.x does not get correct GPS signals from the built-in antenna (while the older Navigator 6 always did).
Oh and I tried a free utility called GPS Proxy, which copies GPS signals from the inernal antenna to another (virtual) COM port, and I configured TT Navigator 7 to read out from that virtual COM port the GPS proxy is sending its data to. No success.
Any idea how to solve that problem?
Once again, I know this is not the right forum for Navigation software but I thought I give it a try....
sometimes ago on my hw6915 i used the 7.910 version without problems.
try to use this version.
regards,
Sold
Thanks Soldato. Tried the the 7.910 version again but same result - except that in addition to the problem the phone´s speaker gets de-activated. Somehow this speaker problem can be overcome by deleting/replacing a certain file in the Windows folder (I had tried the 7.910 version already half a year ago and I found out how to switch on the speaker but forgot what I did....)
Hmm. Also no loader or converter etc. seems to exist that would allow using the newer TT maps with the older (but working) Navigator 6 software.
Looks like I will keep my ipaq hw6915 in the box for a while till a GPS-supporting WM 6 version can be found.
i can try!!
can u send your tomtom soft, n charts, i have hw6915
i'll try them up for ya n give you a hint!!

Sure I will mail it, but its nothing fancy. You can find the corresponding TomTom Navigator software everywhere on the web.

Ähm sorry if I might look stupid, but how can I delete a single dll file from the Windows folder? I tried in Active Sync and directly from the ipaq file explorer but can neither replace nor rename nor delete it. And was also not able to change the file parameters.
using file explorer tap on 'show all files' to see the dll or try "total commander" file manager (needed for wm2003se)
