The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 is the manufacturer's first Android phone. It is rather high-end, equipped with a 1GHz Snapdagon processor, 4-inch TFT screen with a resolution of 480x854 pixels and an 8.1-megapixel camera with autofocus. However, its software features are just as impressing. What it adds to the Android universe is a personalized interface, called UX (from User eXperience). Basically, UX combines various entertainment and social media features.

so this is more like a multimedia phone eh?

no thanks!
based on the history of the X1 bug list ... this X10 will never get fixed
The X1 was slow at the 1st demo, they said they will fix it .. never happened ..
now, look at the video here:
http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/02/sony-ericsson-xperia-x10-announced-we-go-hands-on/
Very slow ... and based on track record ... not going to get fix, not in firmware 1, neither in 2, neither in R3A ...

Yeah .. this 'we must have our own shell, even if it sucks' approach bothers me.

personally .. I HATE IT for 3 reasons
1. IT'S HUGE!
---- i can't feel the portability anymore
2. ANDROID
---- I'm a Windows developer.
3. NO KEYPAD
---- I hate onscreen keyboard.. sorry

1. It's ok for me however I just love the X1/X2 size!
2. and 3. agreed.
I'm not impressed by Android.
Actually, If I'd be ever tempted to change OS, I would just go Mac....

What do you mean
You believe in Android dominance?
As for some other thread you asked me: I rather tie myself with Microsoft
OS and Use Google anyway since they control their search machine,
than rely so much on Google only...
Of all the new OSes the most I like is WebOs by Palm, but have no idea
how this works.
I definitely choose WM which still gives the biggest abilities...
It's also funny to see on some forums how people get excited
about the Facebook and Twitter integration...
It's like I said - it's all about feel and "lifestyle" in the end, not features.

next dissapointment

I can even extend this list:
4. No possibility to scroll through big pages quickly (like with optical button)
5. Ugly UI (too small icons, also seems to be very dull)
6. Laggy even in the browser, which is said to be snappy (loading the engadget site takes as long as with my X1)
7. Same battery like X1 BUT 1GHz cpu AND larger screen (battery drain!!!)
8. Is the phone still usable if I don't use Facebook and Twitter (or is just everything blank) ??
Comment: why didn't they simply put the snapdragon in the X2?

Nah .. it just seemed funny to me that someone hates phone which he does not have and which was just recently been officially introduced. If he said 'I don't like it' it would be perfectly fine with me. Never mind ..
As for Android dominance .. interesting question. Actually yes. Not in year or two. But WM is going to phase out. Apple is too closed. Web OS seems to be developing too slow at the moment. Actually I would like to see Web OS in this role as long time Palm OS user and developer, but Android for sure has bright future ahead.
As for X10, I like the form (no keyboard, large screen), it's just what I'd like to try, but it is no matter of life and death for me, so please don't flame. X1 keyboard is too clumsy and I don't use it that much, and the screen is small for me as my last PDA was Palm T5 with 3.9 inches. Also I don't like WM, since my last PDA was Palm OS. I kind of got used to WM, and I almost stared to like it as I started to develop applications for it (nothing public so far), as the process is really smooth (though not free).
What I don't like is that SE shell. I generally hate animation in UI. I could live with it if they were really snappy (like iPhone has for example). But if they take time, and are even jerky, now that plainly sucks. It's not good for effect, nor for usability, it's just stupid.
Eh .. sorry for long post. Peace !

did I say "everything" ? thought I gave 3 reasons why I hate it and that doesn't mean I hate the phone entirely.

I will deffinitely check this device out, but I will stick to WinMo for the moment. Maybe if I get a chance to buy it cheaply and use it as a second device....

Im just going to come back and throw a few things back since this is also a WinMo forum..
4. I have NEVER used the optical pad on my X1 to scroll through pages. Its a touchscreen, you just flick..
5. Ugly UI.. Sorry, but are you forgetting about WinMo here? Yes WinMo can run Sense or SPB, but this is Android. Its Open Source and there are a variety of "skins" out there
6. Do you even have the X10? Didn't think so, so you can't comment here. The Engadet video is also running a pre-build of the software so its buggy.
7. Most phones dont last that long anyway. Your supposed to charge them every night anyway
8. Fair point as not everyone uses social networking. Im going to say that you can just enter various details yourself

That is your personal preference. For example, I use it all the time: to scroll through menus, web pages and most notably - e-books.
It is amazingly functional.

While it's somewhat useful, I agree, it cannot even come close to a wheel, let alone it is very small and highly inaccurate, unfortunately.

The user manual which can now be downloaded shows that unused tabs in timescape can be unchecked (removed) leaving whatever the remainder is as the timescape flow.

that is excellent news. i personally have only got facebook and myspace. i don't use twitter that much.. and can really only see myself using timescape to update facebook and myspace.. sms and email i can use the regular apps for that.. i.e. i doubt my device will be slowed down by timescape ...

Interface doesn't mean everything. There's no saying that the iPhone's interface isn't SWEET! But that in itself, alone, doesn't make it better than WM phones. So, porting the interface over is not a submission to the iPhone's superiority, as a phone or OS, but quite the opposite .
you people should make sth more useful than "iphone everything"...

Why we are Better
The reason why we turn our WM devices into Iphones is not because we like them or because we are jelaous... we do it simply because we CAN!!!
Do you know what the iPhone can change into, absolutely nothing.... well, maybe into this:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=qg1ckCkm8YI
Our devices are far superior and that is that. As F-ed up as M$ is with their ideals and software compatibility issues, they are far from being the self centered, pompous pricks that Apple's Steve Jobs is... I mean, think about it, Mr. Jobs said in an interview that he did not allow java support in his i-phone simply because he considered java to be like a "virus". ???? WTF????
All in all, just remember this:
"You can turn a WM device into an iPhone, but you cannot turn an iPhone into a WM device?
oh I Get it
I get So the iphone threads are just to show how superior win ce is over iphones mac osx and that it can run like and iphone and surpass it and iphone cant even run petty java apps haha good anychance diz running iphone programs" on hp ipaq 514

You might not, but that's ALSO due to the fact that Windows allows you to achieve more. If windows XP/Vista had this same look, but all you could do is play DVD's. Which OS would you actually prefer. Still maintain, interface isn't EVERYTHING.
I think the guy is right. There are many threads about how to make ppcs look like the iphone by imitating icons, interface ... What should be done is to pick up ideas from Apple - e.g. concerning the interface - and turn them into something better, make some real "development".

Heh heh lets see you iphone users turn your iphone into WM6 or WM5, I dont think so!
Some of the above are true, some others are completely false!!!
Iphone has a superior OS which works PERFECTLY (wm phone program SUCKS!!!), the best screen ever made for a portable device and 1000% better handling (HTC's touchFlo is nothing compared to iphone's similar function) + some uniq features!!! Are all of them enough for a power user? I am afraid not and we all know why (if you don't, search this forum and you will find out the reason) ...

@kirileman,
I will agree with you that Apple did a superb job on the HW side of the iPhone (I am particularly talking about the screen, and nothing else), and the interface is actually pretty sweet indeed (which is why there are people developing similar apps for our devices). This whole turn-our-wm-into-iPhone craze has been incredibly eye opening for a lot of people who are currently developing amazing new apps for our devices.
Like I said on my first post, we do this not because we are jelaous or because we want it, but just because we CAN!!!
BTW, check this out and have a laugh or two:

All symbian phones can be "turned into" iphone...
does that mean the symbian platform is as powerful as the wm platform.
BUT...and this is a big BUT...i think that wm platform is still hung-up on the pda...and that is where iphone beats the crap out of all HTC made phones.
my problem with all pocectpc phones is that they are crappy phones...
they loose signal, have really bad voice quality, crash at the most inapropriate times..just for the background..i had a s60 phone before my latest htc crap..i never had a single crash on it...and i had it for almost 2 years.

That's actually the point of the FreeStyle Interface. (http://www.ppcfreestyl.com or http://www.whoneedsaniphone.com) It's not to copy the iPhone interface but it draws on it's ideas to create a more finger friendly interface for a WM touchscreen device.

I can say that with my Wizard I haven't had that many problems with the phone itself. I will admit that I've had it lock up a few times when trying to answer a call but not enough to be a deal breaker. As far as signal and voice quality, not at all. It varies according to the phone rom you're using but I can honestly say that there have been times that I have had reception on my phone when my wife, with a normal Motorola phone, did not (and there have been occasions the other way too, but fewer of them). I also have no problems with voice quality with my device. YMMV of course.
WM is Superior da Symbian OS
On Symbian Phone You Cant Edit a Single File on The Rom Which Is drive Z: i used to have an ngage which broke when the firmware got corrupted and drive C: got wiped out and it started with system error then it lead to the "WSOD"they famous 4
The iPhone's merit is that it has pretty good HARDWARE, quite suitable for WM environments. Trouble is, the software is a locked down pisa crap at the moment, and even when unlocked, homebrew support isn't as good as, say, a Ninty DS. Personally, I support all attempts to get WM running on a iPhone. It's made for that stuff.

So, essentially you are saying that I could turn a regular Nokia phone into an iphone? I'm pretty sure that people out there could develop apps to make the Symbian OS look more like an iphone. You know why that is? Bacause you CAN actually install things in your good ol' symbian phones. Thanks to Apple's "exclusivity" software rights, you cannot do squat to an iphone. So, in terms of usability, then yes, the Symbian OS is far more flexible (and hence better) than Apple's OS.

I don't mean to be rude or anything, but what you are saying here makes no sense at all. Have you heard of a little something called Smartphone?? As far as I know, the Smartphone is not a pda, but it is rather an adaptation of the WM OS into a regular phone that would otherwise use Symbian OS.
Besides, of course that M$ is "hung-up" on the pda. The OS was created specifically for that purpose. Hey, here is another thing that the iphone cannot do. Have you heard of Xanandu? (look it up in the Wallaby forums)

Well, I will admit that the pda-phones can and probably will crash a lot more often than your regular phones (even than the iphone). I will give you that one, but we all know that M$ is not exactly the most stable.... well, anything! I mean if you have a pc running Windows XP, then you know what I am talking about. But you know what? It is a trade-off, you give up some stability to be able to do more, run more memory intensive apps... hell, you can even write code and compile it in your wm device.
As far as the signal part, I have yet to see the phone that gets perfect reception everywhere. Both my mom and brother have iphones, and let me tell you that my 2 year old Blue Angel has better reception in the same place, than that of both iphones. Voice quality is about the same. My wife has a Wizard and it has much better voice quality than my in-laws' razrs.
I will still say what I have been saying since we started this argument, we do not mimic the iphone out of jelaousy or because we say it is better, we do it simply because we CAN!!!
BTW, someone mentioned the FUI interface in this thread, if you are not familiar with it, you might want to check it out. It is not a copy of the iphone, but it is something really cool as well.

this app contain graphic photo of a piano buttons when u press it, it plays a tone .. is it hard to do it?!
you will tell me the diamond is not a multitouch screen.. its ok we dont want to play two tones at once .. we will tap every single button and play its tone..
just for fun it doesnt have to be the same as the diamond .. we only put what the Diamond can play or run ..
iGuitar
video:http://in.youtube.com/watch?v=w40P3q3PIu8
iGuitar is a simple app as same as iAno .. just tap on the string and play .. we dont want to hold a string and play a different tone in the same string like a real guitar .. its enough i think with 6 strings and play with them .. for fun and shows ..
iDrummer
video:http://in.youtube.com/watch?v=coiaPu371AA&feature=related
dont have to say much about it .. its the same .. only its very simple .. touch and play .. no need to multitouch..
---------------
and so on with many apps with the same subject .. please comment and tell me your opinions about what i wrote .. and explain to us whats can be done .. and what cant be done .. and why ..
waiting for this thread to explain everything...
if it's so simple, do it yourself.
there are plenty of apps similar to these outhere, and the reason they are not really developed for WM devices anymore compared to the iPhone is due to the vast amount of marketing the iPhone has.
htc sell for 1 million
iphone sell for 100million.
this is the different

Just look at the hardware specs, of course it could be done but what we are saying is the market for such gimmicks is not wm it is apple. I got my phone for it's gps, it's vga screen it's gpu and cpu, not for a load of useless gimmick software that has no practical value. Basically anyone who wants to make such software has a much bigger commercial market with the iphone. I have seen maybe 1 or 2 adds for the diamond in magazines and that is it. The iphone is a nice object I'll admit but it is driven purely by the $ and not by a community of geeky nerds who love to tinker (myself excluded of course), software given to thousands or bought by millions. It is just fodder for the masses!
My last words on the subject, I'm sick and tired of this kind of crap thread, I recommend that no one else bother to post here, it has all been said a thousand times.
Out with the bores!
Oh give badrey a break! Some of you people are so deluded, it's hysterical. The iphone has some amazing apps and some of the key things it has that most the Diamond apps don't are style, sheer usability and a real sense of fun. Seriously, the Diamond apps can sometimes feel clunky and overly practical, however useful and well constructed they may be.
The saddest thing about all this bitterness towards the iphone and people who dare to mention the name is that there seem to be more and more posts/apps concerning Iphone themes, icons and slide to answer apps than ever before. So you all can't hate the iphone has much as you profess - stop with this childish pretense, it's sad!
Don't get me wrong, I love my Diamond, but I wish some of the extremely talented developers on here would raise the bar by utilising the Diamond's excellent screen and GPU for some good old fashioned colour filled fun. If it means using other successful phones as inspiration, so be it.
Whilst i'm getting things off my chest, to those of you with naked/ bikini clad girl wallpapers - nothing yells 'i'm a strange nerdy virgin' louder to people, especially women! Trust me, my gf heavily agrees and has often laughed at some of themes i've shown her on here, so sort it out. LOL!

Oh, you are reading my mind, are you? Exactly what I been thinking! How do you do it?.... Scary!
people develope to get some money
with diamond you cant get much money when you develope something.
only few develope do for fun. like some in here. but this is all.
1 develope for diamond = 1million develope for iphone.
you can see the different. money
your question is very childish
Yes but i think you'll find that most Windows mobile phones that get released from now on will have the same G-sensor + touchscrenn technology so the apps/games wont just be for the Diamond they will be for all ppc.So how many people would be buying apps/games then.
If you catch my drift.
Keep in mind that while the diamond was only released 3 months ago, the iPhone has been out and played around with for almost 2 years. Most of those iPhone Apps started out as apps for the Jailbroken iPhone. Windows Mobile 7 is going to be the great equalizer.

The Diamond is very new compared to the fruitphone.

This is supposed to be our equivalent of the iPhone's iAno application:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=392268
I think one of our issues is the lack of muti-touch, so such applications are impossible. (please don't tell me about a multi-touch keypad, I know - but it's not 'true' multi-touch, just divided into two separate capacitive sensing sections.)
The main issue is being stuck with Windows Mobile as an OS. The .net development platform is fine and the hardware may be great too. But as an OS, WM is sucky and doesn't allocate it's resources in the correct places.
Just look at the consistant responsiveness of the iPhone. In fact you don't need to get an iPhone to see this. The iPod touch is a fabulous piece of kit.
Personally, I think once Google's Android has proven itself and made it's way onto a few more devices than the G1 it will be another great platform for developers and users - regardless of whether those users continue to support the iPhone or not. Likewise Symbian may yet prove a worthy force in the PDA/smartphone market once it becomes touchscreen with series 60v5.
For those nay-sayers about the iPhone, I truly believe they just haven't had a real good play around with one recently. Once you have seriously tried it out, lived with one for a few hours, experience the App-Store, iTunes integration, Media Player, Huge screen, Safari Browser, Pinch to zoom, Multi-Touch, Google Maps, BBC iPlayer, etc it really does make one wonder how Windows Mob continues to sell ANY units!... Sure they have their own shortcomings but WM6.1 has many, many more.

Multi touch can enable some fun features, but other than being able to turn your phone into an instrument and zooming in and out, multitouch is essentially useless.

really??????????? wtf SE no serious cpu update come on ¿¡¿¡¿¡¿
and LESSSSSS storage?????????
i believe the hardware pics but that About screencap better be a joke!!!!!
furthermore if they try n shaft USA on fps again ill be writing letters!!!
Edit: after calming down a bit, slightly more formal thoughts emerge...
closer examination of the pictures seems to also reveal what appear to me to be two spearks on the back = sweet jesus stereo sound that i can hear! without hacks/cabs/whatever .. and do i also notice a HARDWARE lock switch on the side?! near what appears to be the cam button!? i'lll be dipped n **** n rolled in breadcrumbs! i've longed for this ! i really hope we get upgraded to a magnetic stylus.. so many cool features available from that..
also someone mentioned it looking like a bunch of plastic = i can live with that.. i baby my phone as it is.. hardly a scratch on it.. and seeing how i don't drop it in toilets or on concrete... i'm fairly certain i can care for a plastic smartphone just as well.. not too mention it makes the overall unit LIGHTER! a lighter xperia is a great thing imho
but reallly? the same cpu ? we've got serious competition across the board in Q4 09 and beginning of 2010 phones coming out with 1GHz cpu's and UP! why bother with this outdated CPU that doesn't even support 30fps if using the MSM201A i mean why have an 8.1 mp cam that can't even record 30fps?
INSANITY!
they keyboard= EXACTLY WHAT THE XPERIA NEEDS! an independent key keyboard so we don't have the same keyboard issues we did with the X1.. *(my current x1 isn't even a year old. has been repaird once (jammed power button) and babied the rest of the way and my keyboard is going out.. i key x key m key v key spacebar key alll have issues.. at this rate i'm wondering why i didn't just get a touch HD?
"insider specs" = obviously not a faster cpu
same or less internal memory? that doesn't even make sense with an 8.1mp cam on board! wtf!
wm 6.5, while not a huge improvement seeing as how most of us are already running 6.5 it's still a better UI *titanium* than the standard 6.1 today screen
Accelerometer = Thank god! whippe! the fun begins!! *was very sad when i found out my x1 en route didn't have one *
larger 3.5 in screen possibly AMOLED = this is a huge selling poing... the damn lip on the x1's screen is veeeeery annoying especially since i rely so heavliy on touch now that my keyboard has started going bad...
It looks like pice of plastic. But 3.5" and Accelerometer, cool.
But I dont believe that's X2, or why SE start using that much plastic?
I just love that brushed metal of X1.
That "insider" is Ronka, he's not exactly known for his accuracy. Or sense, half the time. I'd take it with a pinch of salt.
AFAIK it's the early proto,
possible processor change.
I still don't see a mouse cursor on the screen. It would be nice if that were included in the new release.
damn wrong... SE really screwed it up
Well, ya know people complained about the X1 being too expensive. So if SE is going to correct "that mistake", then they have to make the device cheaper/cheesier
My next phone will be a WM7 phone. I'll cram WM6.5 into my X1 when they officially release it.

Well Microsoft seems to be on a roll lately, with mainly everyone praising windows 7, it could translate to an awesome OS for mobile as well.
On another note, if X2 is supposed to be compatible with WM 7, therefore it would have to meet the requirements of it, like multi-touch, faster processor, and such...

True for the third time!
Ccccombo breaker?
What exactly makes WM better?
Performance? No
Look and feel\UI? Hell no.
Open source? No
Free? No
App store? Coming, but only for 6.5 (WTF?!) So, no.
OS updates? If your manufacturer bothers
Third party software? WM is better at software now, but Android has just started. And I believe android got more possibilities when it comes to letting third party's use every single piece of hardware in the phone.
Android got the donut update and 20 phones incoming this year so popularity will increase a lot. Androids strength is in its potential (of stuff we know are coming).
And we got the amazing integration of a tons of googles services, and lets not forget google wave that we can safely assume will be tightly integrated in android. Oh and android is the only mobile OS we've seen spotify on.
Then again, im no expert. Tell me why you guys think WM is better (besides the fanboyism I mean).
edit: oh and xda exists in order to FIX WM, but that does not make it good...

... part of the price you pay for your WM phone goes to Microsoft. None of what you pay for an android phone goes to google. Is this hard to understand? We're talking about the OS here, jesus.
And you could answer yes to all the questions? Please do, and feel free to add explanations... other then "duuuuh, stupid".

Agreed 500%. Yes to all of them.
Ok,
App store: there are many dedicated WM app stores, so I don't really care now who owns that. Instead of one there are many to choose from. No problem here.
As for open source - just look at this forum. WM is definitely open source and is tweakable to the extreme.
Look and feel: well, a bit individual part. I REALLY like WM look and feel with plethora of available customizations around added to it's default look.
And I would say that the overall functionality is also on WM side.
Updates: Yes, we get free updates.
And in opposition to Android,
there's less things to improve or especially to ADD to the functionality of the OS,
so naturally you get more updates..
You talk about the connection to Google services: well, that's a bummer since I rather like to have easy connection to any services I like.
If you want to rely completely on ONE provider - your choice, I'd never do that...
And performance: well, where did you find your info?
IMO WM performance is generally great, with glitches as ANY other platform.
Plus: the amount of functional and diverse software is unbeatable on WM.
Android is young and it's one of the drawbacks too.

is it just me or Windows 7 looks ugly

I am not sure whats all the fuss about.
reason I moved from iphone to wm is because of multitasking, running skype \ messenger and other apps in the background.
I am not a big fan of zune interface. but to be honest I didnt use it.
can some one explain why he sees win7 as a good thing?

Couple of things:
• Still a prototype (room for lots of change)
• supposed to be really fast
• better integration
• more finger friendly
• however agreed, at this stage, it's quite plain but very
Some more info. <<HERE>>.
i dont like it at all
i think MS is thinking way too much social network capabilities. something we already have currently for which i personally hardly ever use. also the layout doesnt look straight forward and looks confusing or i just didn't seem to pay attention to it. i wont upgrade if that is how it gonna look like.
Just an FYI, It's Windows Phone 7 Series (WP7S) not Windows 7.
dwizzy130
Why do people have to moan so much? No-one has even tried the f*cking OS yet and they're already moaning about it. I suppose these people are all running Windows 1.0 and driving around in Austin Ambassadors.
There's nothing wrong with Microsoft integrating social network as this is the way of things: people are finding new ways to communicate all the time and phone OS's are adapting to this; you don't HAVE to use these facilities and they won't be obtrusive if you don't. You also have the option of sticking with Windows mobile as Microsoft will continue to supply it as they supply XP to netbook manufacturers.
Stop moaning about it: would you rather Microsoft just patched up the current Windows Mobile some more so that it finally dies the death that it is currently heading towards?? The new OS means better hardware support, meaning greater performance and speed. Don't like it? Get an iPhone, Android phone or stick with Windows Mobile 6...
The great thing is that now there is so much CHOICE. There is no point whingeing because the OS doesn't conform with your exacting standards, Microsoft I'm sure have worked hard to please as many people as possible as obviously this is a solid business model to conform to. If you don't like it, don't buy it....but at least give it a chance.
I was scornful of Windows 7 until I tried it.
It's really ugly, especially the screen with square and rectangle boxes of sms/call/mail info
Really?
I think it looks really good. If it has the responsiveness of my Zune HD then I think MS may have a real winner here.
it's just the backbone.. it will probably just have (a new version) of sense running on top of it...

The bigger question at this point is...does WinPhone 7 really need HTC Sense running on top of it? I could understand running on top of 6.5 (very easy to replicate the existing functionality for a much better looking UI) but replicating the hubs and functionality in 7 would be a much harder job.

I hope not, I hate the double functionality it has now.. and I think it looks quit good already (wm7).. but maybe a little simple for our large screen hd2.. which I also find quit useless at the moment.. the home screen in Sense is just a big version of a small resolution screen phone.. why not use that space..? in this case finger friendly is just a poor excuse for hasty release in my opinion.. luckely we have developers here who finish htc's job (co0kie's home tabs is a good example, it makes your phone feel like what htc promises in their commercials but doesn't deliver)
let's face it, the default windows mobile 6.5 home screen (the scrolling finger friendly one, don't know the name) is not bad at all.. it just looks ugly on our big screen..
not moaning but just saying as how i feel about it as the subject pertains. if u dont like how i feel about it maybe you should get the F**K out of this thread if you cant handle it. why are you so pissed off about such an opinion from others. are you the developer of it or something that offended you? i would consider trying it out once it is close to the release date and see what it really looks like then. ciao!

The point is that you haven't tried it yet. Do you criticise movies based on their trailers?
It's impossible to know for sure whether you're going to like an OS just by basing your opinion on a few pictures and videos. Besides which who really thinks the stock Windows Mobile 6 is a gorgeous user-friendly masterpiece; it's only with the addition of Sense that the experience is improved to the point of desirability. Microsoft haven't holistically written off Windows Mobile 6 so fans can still stick with it for the foreseeable life of their devices and expect updates to Sense, SPB Mobile Shell and Opera.
The point is that now there is greater choice, which can only be a good thing. I'm not a developer and I have no affiliations which might bias my opinion here, but I have made the mistake of writing off things before ive tried them in the past and just think people shouldn't be so keen to spit their dummies out when things don't look exactly how they'd expect them to. Given the limited knowledge we have of WP7's hands-on experience I think this poll might be a little premature.
Well, we haven't really seen much
In fact we have not seen much more than a proof of concept. (Although I'm quite sure it is more than that). I, for one, will hold off judgment until I learn more about the functionality and possibilities for customizations. As shown it does not meet my personal needs for my "Home Screen". IF, as I have read, MS is locking down the UI then the rest better be pretty damn fantastic for me to put up with the UI I saw. But if we can change it around to fit our needs then I will consider it.
As for now, although speculation is fun, I feel it's just too early to make any determination based on the little we know. Next month will give us more info. After that it will be a case of "wait and see" what the devs come up with once they get their hands on the OS etc. I keep thinking about that old adage "Don't judge a book by it's cover".
I wouldn't put too much criticism on the layout as I do about the functionality. People needs to realize that the layout is not set in stones and i'd be hard pressed if MS would keep the blue block as their UI. As long as it is fast, smooth, and finger-friendly, skinning it would be a piece of cake. Give it some time until close to release time and we'll see a more polish product that will appeal to everybody.
i completely agree..
how come people always criticizing something that has not been even tested in real life?
it's always "oooh it's ugly and i still like the current one or the older one", but yet after a while, we then accept the fact that it is actually better and fit our needs.
i guess thats why there are old people that will very likely to use an old typewriter Compare with the more civilized older ones who get the use and capabilities of computers. So much critics that now, they dont even know how to use it.
Stop Moaning guys,
i say this is the best WM OS those lazy bustard have come out with and compete against the fruit factory.
i like it.... thought it looks awful now, but we have gfreek and other xda superheroes to tweak and style and custom and theme and overclock and whatever you can think of...
cant wait for and unofficial release....
from Singapore
by the way, Singapore just open its first casino...
as stated earlier, if the "book cover" looks better , you got my vote. other than that, NOTHING else so far about wp7s lures me into upgrading for what i have now. i am talking about what we've been shown. even though i use it now based on your judgement, i wont enjoy it cos it is simply not pretty. sorry i cant do an ugly person even if she functions well.
I am holding off to 6.5.1 + ROMs because of cosmetic reasons really. I like the large finger friendly buttons but the fact that the start button is on the left making it look unsymmetrical to me is f-ugly. In my opinion it should be in the middle. Hope this doesn't turn out to be the case for Win phone but from the images i have seen it doesn't look too bad. Im sure it will be skinable to some extent and i think it is a step in the right direction. Win mobile can be complicated and ugly if your used to more "main stream" handsets. As long as it maintains its customisable back bone in a pretty new wrapper i welcome this new os.

Just wait until we get a ROM dump from the HTC HD Mini. That is running an unseen build of 6.5.X that got rid of the start menu icon on the taskbars and has symmetrical softkeys.

Satisfied with the hardware, disappointed by the software

Coming from a HTC Desire HD ,I have just received my Galaxy SII.
The hardware is great : very good screen, nice colors , very light, good speaker ans sound , far above my HTC Desire HD.
BUT: I am very disppointed by the software , far behind my HTC Desire HD:
HTC Sense is much better than TW ( I know, I can use another launcher) ,
Email client is crappy ( background black, no limitations in mail size limit, or limited download schedule) . The dialer in T9 can only find people by the last or the first name but not by both, the keyboard of the HTC is much better ( where are the 4 arrows ?).
I am afraid that I will find in the next days other software limitations.

I feel the same way, i switched to Go Launcher EX and for the keyboard i have Smart Keyboard pro.
Lets hope the device gets popular and CM gets ported to it.

I hate TouchWiz. I don't know why they bother. It was the same with the Galaxy Tab, great device but crap overlay.
I've put Launcher Pro on mine with a touch of Beautiful Widgets. I much prefer the dock icons now. They are not as in your face as TouchWiz:
Galaxy S II Screen Shots - Picasa Web Albums http://v3.nu/mvdgk3
Anyone finding any lagging when the power button is pressed? Mine takes some time before the screen wakes after the power button is pushed
kinda agree with op here.. i am infact thinking about returning my galaxy s2 and just keep my desire phone. but i guess once there is a clean rom out for it, the phone will be nice.
and what about ultimate codecs for every media out there for example?
you can change keyboard, dialer....i just cant realise how u compare some crap/changable things near something that makes this phone unique

Have to totally disagree with you.
1.My Email client works spot on.
2. The bluetooth when using speaker in the car doesn't cut out half way through talking.
3. The GPS locks in seconds where as i couldn't get a lock where i lived for about 5 minutes.
4. I like the Touchwiz 4 even after coming from HTC it has some great touches as many of the people off here have said.
5. I use the gingerbread keyboard which i used on my HTC device.
6. Camera is so much better, as is Video & Gaming..
7. Plus the biggest bug bear with HTC Tiny Memory.
So for me its no contest ...
Try dialer one. It can T9 search both first last and number in contacts and call logs all at once, has speed dial, can bring contacts most often contacted to the top of the results and you can set multiple number contacts with a defaut number. I don't even have a contact icon on my screens because I don't ever go into it. Dialer one will normally bring up the contact in a few clicks. I have 300 contacts so that isnt a huge number but still impressive to be a few clicks away from a contact at that number.
I've come in from the original HTC Touch HD
Sure it's a different layout, and I've really got to like the way I had my HD
I'm trying to resist the urge to make it like my old HTC HD.
So far, I'm very happy, all so much quicker. But look forward to what might be available shortly

Not sure about the GS2 Email but you can set background color on SGS1. I guess SGS2 should allow you to do the same thing.
Keeping the background black is good for ur battery.
I don't like the dailer though, but don't expect anything better on a "clean ROM", the AOSP is almost worse on everythings.
I personnaly love the software and really like TouchWiz, I even prefer it over sense. It is really great in it's version 4.0.

I then sold the iPhone 4 and bought the SGS2....
And to be honest, I want an HTC back as Sense if much nicer than the cheap childish looking TouchWiz thing.....
The signal is shocking and is never stable, spent most of my time refreshing webpages today which in turn drained my battery....
Speed Test results were extremely inconsistent, they did however on occasion make the phone seem worthwhile, but browsing is a different matter, or lack of browsing should I say (Bottom result is Wi Fi)

The DHD browser and signal is by far the fastest I've ever come across....
When browsing on the SGS2 you see chequered board until you stop scrolling....
Have had to 'Force Close' browser about 5 times, and a few other processes about 4 times when I wasn't really doing anything - that's within 24 hours....
Until Samsung create a nice looking OS, then I shall stay well away....
Why should I purchase a mobile that I need to flash/root and annihilate just to have a mobile that I like....
I'm not trying to slate the phone, I'm merely creating a 'review' I would have liked to have read prior to purchasing this phone....
I watched numerous videos on YouTube which made this device look so cool, when infact, it's far from it.....
It's like a Genio with Balls
I came from a DHD to the SG2 and guess what? I love it!
Battery life blows the DHD away, the screen is better, the sound quality is better really hated the low sound on the desire, the camera is better and video, my GPS locks quickly and the browser is superior due to gpu acceleration I did a side by side test and far smoother when scrolling.
Sure Sense is lovely but there are replacements, the only one replacement which is hard to replace is friendstream but tweetdeck is pretty decent.
As for keyboard I'm using the keyboard from here Thumb Keyboard its free and has the arrows as well and I think better than HTC stock keyboard.
You won't be disappointed with the Samsung although the Desire HD is still a lovely phone.

My battery life is the same, as the SGS2 constantly struggles to connect to 3g
I saw that there was a new firmware and have just installed it in the home it would maybe help my lousy 3g connection....
It didn't....
Off to ebay with this one I think
Maybe I have a different understanding, but I find it unnecessary to think that a phone should work perfectly out of the box, rooting and changing rom isn't all that hard especially we are already talking on xda, just spend a few minutes reading the step by step guides and you are fine.
Perhaps that is the reason I chose samsung, crappy software can be modified, but battery life cannot.
Overall, I'm very happy with the new purchase

If you've just received your phone how are you so sure that e.g Touchwiz is crappy?
It took me 2 days to get to know and use TouchWiz4 properly and efficiently. I don't think you know how to use it or shall I say "know how to use it to its full potential", if you have just got it.
Keyboard? everyone's got their preference.
Email client? it is one of the best out there right now. Give it a few days.
I quite like some of the additions they made, the notification bar seems great with the quick access stuff and i noticed that I can use audio controls within the notification bar if I use the stock music player. I don't use the launcher as I prefer launcher pro. The phone app isnt too bad seems basic but better than stock. The actual calling is good as it moves the hold button to the bottom and you can text as soon as usual hang up which I find handy. Personally I use Youlu. Again I use a lot of alternative apps already so the main things I use are the little tweaks to the phone itself. The good think about it is it doesn't slow down the phone as it's such a speedy phone
