Wirelessly Sync folders on PC AND WiMO? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Themes and Apps

Hi,
So here's what I want to do:
I have a folder on my pc with files in it. I want that to sync that with a Cloud storage type system online. Then I want a folder on my Touch Pro 2 to sync with that online folder. Now I know what your thinking and before you flame me with stuff like dropbox, sugarsync, mesh, myphone etc... they can't do that. They sync from pc to online just fine, but then on the tp2 I have to navigate to the web to retrieve files, or with sugarsync there is an app to install and I can load the app and download the files to a folder that way. I don't want to do that. I want a folder to always stay sync'd. I've search all over and can't find that kind of functionality. This would be real handy in a scenario where i need to constantly sync 5 or more phones together with multiple pc's. I don't want to tell the user, ok go to www.getdropbox.com or load this or load that...
I hope I am just missing something and it does exsist.

Live Mesh does exactly what you are talking about. Just leave it running if you need it constantly updated rather than just when you run it. That is the exact purpose of Live Mesh...

Unless i missed something, then it only works that way if your able to install mesh and sign in on your phone. I didnt think they were accepting anymore ppl for testing on mobile devices. I installed it and checked just to see. Without this, your forced to grab files from the web.

I can't get the live mesh program to work on my Sprint Touch Pro 2. It lets me enter my login info and then crashes while logging in. Is there something I'm missing?

No clue about why it would crash. It doesn't matter anyway, you can't use it. It's closed to new people.
Anyone have any thoughts about the actual topic of this thread? There has to be a way... No one needs to do this?!

It's not closed. You just need to activate your mesh account for windows mobile which involves clicking on a specific link. I did it and I got the client installed and working. Works great! But wouldn't want to deviate from the actual topic of this thread...

How would that be deviating? If there is a way to get into Mesh and it's not closed, that would potentially directly solve the original post.

I will report if this works. Thanks!

it definitely worked for me. you'll see that windows mobile becomes an option in your mesh after visiting this link. but getting the program to validate on your device (touch pro 2) is hit or miss. i just had to try it many times and finally it worked. then there is also an issue of the program crashing upon startup that i mentioned above. i've narrowed that down to being related to the memory card. the program will start if i remove the memory card prior to executing it. i can then put the memory card back in while the program is in the login screen and it works. still trying to find a better solution. let me know if you have any luck.

Been playing with it all night. So far it's working flawlessly. No crashes at all. I have a 8gb storage card. It's sync'd to and from 1 other verizon phones, and 4 pc's... It's cool, you take a pic with your phone and voila it's on my wife's phone too, as well as the mobile picture directory at home. Would love to help you get it working too. Have you checked out this forum?
http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/LiveMesh/threads

You can also use Remote Touch. It doesn't sync, but it does allow you to transfer files remotely, back and forth from your desktop and your phone. And of course, you get the added benefit of controlling your desktop remotely with your phone.
When I'm in a hurry to leave the office I'll queue a bunch of files in RemoteTouch and have my phone download them while I'm on the road.

Can you tell me the exact phone you have? Is it the Verizon touch pro 2? Maybe it's my brand of memory card? It's definitely good when it's working.
Also, did you have any trouble validating the phone on the mesh? Took me several attempts and it seems other people had the same issue. I have been to the site you linked a little bit but maybe more research is in order.

can you tell me if the live mesh client is running robustly on your touch pro2? i had tons of crashes the last time i messed with this. haven't tried it since. most of the problems i had are documented in this thread.

For the op, there is a Schaps Network plugin, http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=67564. It may do what you want, too. Not sure. Just making a suggestion.

No, I certainly couldn't say "robustly." It's more like "haphazardly."

Wanted - help beta testing my browser game

Hello fellow XDAers!
I have ported a WinMobile game to Silverlight and I am really desperate for some beta testers – having been immersed in the project now for over 500 hours it's getting hard to see the wood for the trees.
If you're keen, the URL is www.squarepeggame.com
As an (attempt at an) incentive, I will reward useful beta testers with free copies of the game when it's released. Currently, things I would really like to know are:
- Does it load and run on your machine / browser?
- Are you able to create an account, and is your level position saved when you re-start?
- The Level Designer (this'll be the first time anybody has used it, go easy on me) what do you think?
- Comments on useability and interface.
- General bug reports (please be as specific as possible)
- Anyone have access to an Intel-based Mac? Does it run on that?
There are separate forums on the game site to post any questions/bugs, I am of course happy to reply here in this thread too, providing it doesn't get too cluttered.
Thank you in advance!
Carlos
PS: I'll soon be on the look out for paid level designers as well, if this is something that interests you, just sign up in-game as a developer (see the website for more info)
PPS: You might need Silverlight 2, but it only takes 30secs to download & install the plugin
- Does it load and run on your machine / browser?
Yes
- Are you able to create an account,
haven't tried (was not required
and is your level position saved when you re-start?
When I clicked the x i restarted, but when I clicked the x again the screen stayed white, nothing happened
- Comments on useability and interface.
I though the pregame pointers (in training mode) disapeared a bit too quickly
- General bug reports (please be as specific as possible)
see my 2nd comment

Hi there
Thanks very much for this, I'm nearly ready to release it - anybody else fancy giving it a go? http://www.squarepeggame.com
What would be very helpful would be if somebody wanted to use the level designer to make their own level for the game - doesn't have to be anything complex - and let me know how you get on?
C
I will try right now
hmm seems like ppc has a new level to achieve ... will try
quite heavy on my memory eats up a lot of ram; was nice to play it and as been said was able to play without using my email address
Frickin' level 7....AAARRRGGGHHH!!!! Now you have done it. I'll be at this for hours.http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
Runs well on Firefox 3 with Silverlight 2 for me. It allowed me to create an account and login. Haven't tested saving yet. Will do in a moment. Likewise with the level designer. The only thing that could do with altering is that on my 1920 x 1200 monitor (24 inch) the game is as far to the left of the browser as it will go. Would be better in the middle.
Yes, it did save my level when I went back. Just had the signup email. Might be worth obscuring some of the password in it . And volume controls for SFX and music would be good rather than just on or off. Level 9 of the tutorial has a spelling error, Giong instead of Going.
- Does it load and run on your machine / browser?
It runs, I am using my bro's core2duo laptop with firefox 3.0.5
- Are you able to create an account, and is your level position saved when you re-start?
Yes, I used red_hanks also and it says I am logged in with that name. Still waiting for the game to start for 15minutes now, it says "please wait" with a square spinning around. It is not my internet connection because I have a high-speed broadband. Silverlight was installed also and system is up to date with Windows Update.
- The Level Designer (this'll be the first time anybody has used it, go easy on me) what do you think?
Looks clean, like in nurserys... (just the first page where it says START, INSTRUCTIONS...)
- Comments on useability and interface.
None at the moment
- General bug reports (please be as specific as possible)
It is not loading???
Oh it's loading now...Playing it...nice game...hit thr back arrow button and it went back to the first page...playing again...hit the x button and nothin happens..hit it again and everything just went white...
Hmmm... the level editor crashes Firefox for me as soon as I click in the email box. Also happens in IEtab and Internet Explorer 7. My machine is Vista Ultimate with a Core 2 Duo E6600 with 2gb RAM. I've also had it go to a blank screen in the menus but I see this is a listed bug on your forum.

Thanks, I'll look into any ways of further minimising RAM usage, although could be a browser thing too. Lots of sounds and pics to cache too, but will definitely investigate.

Level 7, really??! The one on the tutorial is really easy, so maybe you're talking about the actual "first hundred" playlist? Hope you cracked it! Let me know if you can't get there and want me to developer-enable your account so that you can try out the level designer.

This is an interesting comment - I will try to get it to centre in the browser rather than left-aligning. It's funny as I had just assumed that people would move or resize the window rather than maximising it! But I want it to be as helpful as possible to the user so you're right, it should align to the middle of large browser windows.

These are all excellent suggestions, thank you - and typo now fixed. (the joy of all the levels coming from a SQL server is that this was a relatively trivial thing to do - if you've ever tried deploying and staging an Azure server site you'll know how long it can take...)
The volume controls might not make it into the beta release but will definitely be added later.

Thanks for this, red_hanks. Can't replicate the error but could easily have been the webserver being down. Calls to WCF services from Silverlight are a little tricky and I think I need more error handling for when they don't work. I don't think you have tested the level designer by the way, just the game, in answer to your comment.
Thanks everyone! As I said before, if anyone fancies trying to design their own level using the level designer and wants to let me know the name, etc, I'd be interested to (1) play your level and (2) hear how you got on with the level designer!
There's forums over at www.squarepeggame.com too if you need help, tutorials still being made but some are there.

Any idea what could cause the level editor to crash in IE7 and Firefox? I've tried Run As Administrator as well but still the same. As soon as I click any of the boxes (including the tickbox) it crashes.

Hmm okay it would certainly be good to get this solved!
When it crashes, does it just white-screen or is there an error message? Can you try (in Firefox), after it's crashed, going to Tools -> Error Console and seeing if there were any error messages?
C
PS: I'm assuming you're running Silverlight v2 and not some earlier beta or something. Perhaps you could try uninstalling and re-installing Silverlight for me as well, making sure of course that all browsers are closed during installation.
Great, but a few issues
It runs along fine with very few issues on my Sony Laptop (Model VGN-CR240E with Windows Vista/7 partitions, 2 gb RAM, 2 gigahertz Centrino Duo, and a 1280x800 LCD screen. I have not actually tried it on Vista, only on Windows 7 and it works wonderfully except when you enter a level and hit the "X" button in the top corner, which crashes IE8 Beta It doesn't crash under those circumstances on FireFox (Windows 7) though. However, these issues could also be attributed to the fact it is a beta OS running a beta Browser. The game seems more stable on FireFox. I will try it on Vista later, and see if that makes a difference using IE7. As for the UI, it's fine but if you added a way to go back to the main menu after you choose the green "Start" button, that would make it even better. Accounts work fine as far as I've used them. And I have not noticed any RAM issues with the game, according to Process Explorer. The game is amazing overall, and you'll have yourself a real winner when this is done. Good luck with the game
Dave
Does it load and run on your machine / browser?
It works fine on my HP laptop. I'm running Windows 7 Beta Build 7000 and using IE 8 Beta 2
Are you able to create an account, and is your level position saved when you re-start?
Yes. I created an account and the level position was saved
The Level Designer (this'll be the first time anybody has used it, go easy on me) what do you think?
I haven't been able to login to it.
Comments on useability and interface.
Nice UI. It's simple and intuitive
General bug reports (please be as specific as possible)
Problem logging into the level designer. It says I need to complete the tutorial though I've finished it.
How did it run on an Intel iMac?
Once I get to my newspaper class 2 days from now, I'll update my post.
Since I couldn't login to the dev portal, I'm just saying: I'm a Silverlight developer and I would be interested in designing levels/improving the code of the game.
Hello,
The game runs well on my Mac Book Pro with Firefox.
I was able to create an account with no issues.
UI is simple. Makes the games easy to learn.
Crashed to a white screen on level 9 of the tutorial after several moves. Was able to restart from the beginning. This was prior to creating a login. After creating a login and then finishing level 8 of the tutorial I got a pleas wait icon. It then crashed to a white screen after about 30 seconds.
Do you want us to post in the squarepeg forum instead of here?

When it crashes it actually kills Firefox and I get the Mozilla Crash Reporter asking if I wish to report details of what I was doing. I've tried several times looking in the Error Console and there's nothing other than a couple of dead RSS feeds. If I clear it still nothing at all related. I have V2 of Silverlight installed but have just tried rebooting, removing it, rebooting again, re-installing it and still the same.
Had to d/l silverlight- plays just fine
Created account and didnt have to log in as it remembered me and where I was
Nice game, looks good and is easy to use, though the levels get tough
No bugs that I have found

Thanks this worries me as if the game is not correctly developer-enabling accounts at all times we're in trouble. Did anything happen when you completed the tutorial? Any sort of message at all? Sure, that sounds very interesting, if we can't get this problem sorted quickly let me know and I can manually developer-enable your account so you can have a crack at the level designer. In the next phase of the launch, we (ie me) will be paying out cash for levels as well.

Thanks for this - this sounds like an error in code rather than comms. Can you remember what moves you made in the level? If you're able to reproduce this error and then (in firefox) go to Tools -> Error Console, hopefully there will be an error message that could help me to fix this bug. The other error you mention is a known comms exception that I'll be looking at.

Seriously? Whoa! And this happens when you click anything in the login screen of the level designer, right? (I'm assuming you got the logo and login textboxes appearing with no issues) Does the Mozilla crash reporter give you any additional info that you could send me about the crash?
Thanks so much for re-installing, by the way, sorry this didn't help. This doesn't sound like it's something that's going to be easy to diagnose, in fact I already have a headache just thinking about it. Possibly a silverlight bug, a browser bug, or both. Do you have javascript enabled in Firefox, by the way? And have you tried logging in with Internet Explorer, does that work?

You know people, as we're now discussing multiple issues, and I don't want to abuse the charity of xda-developers for hosting this discussion, it might actually be better to gradually move things to the squarepeg forums. (http://forums.squarepeggame.com) I'll disable email account activation for a few days to make it quicker for you to set up accounts.
Of course if people would prefer to post here, that's understandable, I'll still gladly answer posts in this thread.
On a general note, thanks for all the testing so far (eg stanglifemike) - and I'm really pleased that the general impression of the game itself seems to be a good one... ...oh, and @elazullizard - thanks for the feedback... are the levels really that tough? Are you talking about "The First Hundred" or the tutorial?.. ..if it's the tutorial I'm now worried that I've made it too hard!

General and Hero Q&A

I present to you a FAQ for newcomers or the generally uninformed to find quick answers.
General
Q: What is a ROM?
A: A ROM is a complete system image of the Android operating system. For much more detailed info, read here.
Q: How do I install a ROM?
A: ROMs can be flashed once you have rooted your phone and flashed a custom recovery image. After that, you can apply a rom zip via the recovery menu. Detailed info here.
Q: Where can I find more info about ROMs?
A: In the two links above.
Q: What is Apps2SD and how do I use it?
A:Apps2SD is a script that will do exactly as it implies so you are no longer limited to your phone's internal storage. First you must be running a custom ROM that supports it and secondly you need to format your SD card as FAT+ext2. Once that requirement is met, the rest will be automatic. Alternative you could install a2sd on stock rom manually if you wanted to for whatever reason. Warning: Formatting your SD card will erase ALL of the data on it. If you want to keep it, make a backup.
Q: All the Market downloads are stalling. How can I fix this?
A: Sign into Gtalk. The two are closely related even though you'd never guess. For an in-depth discussion head over to this thread.
Q: How do I sign my zip or apk?
A: First you must have java installed on whatever OS you're running. Windows users download the Win-sign.zip attachment. Linux users download Linux-sign.zip attachment.
HTC Hero Specific
Q: How do I root my Sprint CDMA Hero?
A: You've got a few options concerning this. There's the auto-root, flashrec method, and asroot2 method.
Q: How can I remove pre-installed apps?
A: Head on over to How remove apps thread for detailed instructions.
Q: How can I get rid of ringtones and notifications I've downloading from showing up in the Music app and use them without downloading a Market app?
A: Create a folder in the root of your SD card called "media" and a folder called "audio" inside that one. Inside the "audio" folder, create a "notifications", "ringtones", or "alarms" depending on your needs and place the files in the desired folder. Example: media>audio>ringtones>custom-ringtone.mp3
Q: How can I tether my Hero to my PC?
A: You've got several options here. There's Wifi Tether, EasyTether, PDAnet, or without any app! You can read up respectively on each of the apps listed about to learn more about which might be best for you. Now, here's how you can tether without any of that stuff.
Step 1: Connect your phone to your computer with a USB cable and make sure all other forms of internet are disconnected.
Step 2: Install HTC Sync.
Step 3: On your phone go to Settings>Wireless controls and enable Mobile networking sharing. Your PC will try to recognize your phone and install proper drivers and will probably fail. So do it manually using the drivers from HTC Sync located in the directory you installed it. PC should be recognizing your phone now if done properly.
Step 3: Within the Wireless controls menu go into Mobile network settings and change Mode of operation to 1x only.
Step 4: Go back one menu to the Wireless controls and turn off the Mobile network. Now, turn Mobile network back on and enable Mobile network sharing as quickly as possible. This may take a couple of tries. If you did this fast enough you'll get a message saying HTC sync is disable but you won't get Error 67.
Step 5: Change your Mode of Operation back to Hybrid and enjoy.
Leave a suggestion if there's something you think should be added.
Me likes.
Though I think that this would work best as a Wiki so that other informed users can add to it as things come up and we dont have to rely on just one user/dev to maintain it.
Thanks for taking the initiative on this, I am getting quite tired of all the useless threads and continuous thread hijacking over issues that have already been covered 20 times. I dont have all day to read through all the BS that has been filling up the threads lately.
Almost 200 views and no suggestions?
I don't know if this is up you guys' alley, but if any Cricket folks could put together a step-by-step on how to flash to Cricket, especially how to flash with sms/data working, that would be so helpful.
Something else that I can't find good and thorough instructions for is the Cricket broadband workaround, where (if I understand correctly), you use your Cricket USB Broadband modem for all data on the Hero via proxying into it. All I really find on the latter is vague directions to use Anycut/Bettercut and no details about what to do in either program or how to input proxy settings. The most detailed guide I was able to find seems to actually be for a different model phone, since the instructions either only relate to WM or a GSM Hero.
I am trying to figure this out, and if I do before anyone else straightens it out, I'll write something up. I know how annoying it is to get the same questions over and over in these forums. (I've tried my best to help out the Axim x51v community at HTCGeeks with these kinds of things.)
At any rate, it would be awesome to see some more Cricket Hero chatter, even if it isn't revelations, on this thread. I know we're out there lurking, appearing to be Sprinties.

The trick is create a file any directory, that want to hide from Music & Gallery, called ".nomedia".
To make a .nomedia file, just take an empty .txt file and rename it.

I have a notifications and ringtones folder on the root of the SD card and works, but some people prefer just 1 folder that contains both I guess.

i think this is because (almost) EVERYONE that owns a mac also owns a iphone...annnd a ipod....and a macbook....and a ipad....and don't need to develop android software because they have something with a shiny apple on it.
nothing against you, Negrito but most people (that i know...personally) who use macs are completely nuts for apple. hardcore apple fanboys.

More importantly, anyone else getting a virus hit on the file by the name of WS.Reputation.1?
I posted on this subject in the development thread.
I wasn't sure if this subject belongs here or there.
Now comes an article raising the possibility of the phone being blacklisted on the marketplace when MS detects the unlock has taken place:

Worse than a virus hit. I actually got it. It changed my host file by adding a couple localhost redirects... Every time I clicked on a Google seach result, it would redirect me to some crappy excuse of a search engine. Relatively easy to fix though.
no virus hit and havent encountered the redirect problem... am wondering the same with the blacklist issue but i guess it will be a wait and see as with most unlock/jailbreak issues...

While MS might know if you unlock your phone to sideload apps I don't think they'll take the step of banning a user completely from the marketplace. Doing so would backfire because there is no way this user is ever going to pay for an app; he'll be forced to look for cracked ones, not something MS would want.
Also from this message, it doesn't seem they are taking this sideloading business too seriously, which is good. Now XDA, please bring on some goodies. I need a File Explorer and a Media Player like free version of old Core Player

WP7 Installed, activated, live working, sd formatted, Android coexists... now?

As soon as i discovered I could give WP7 a try on my HD2, i started all the process...
Now it works i activated the live account and everything is ok.
I also succeded in having android still booting from the on purpose formatted SD, and i choose from magldr the desired OS.
Now... what?
I mean, WP7 seems incredibly smooth and i would like to go deeper in it, but i find myself lost.
here are my questions, being used to working with wm 6,5 and android :
1) How do i get my contacts/tasks/appointmentsback on the phone from outlook on pc ?
2) Is it possible to use the IGO8 Wm 6,5 version here with WP7?
3) how do you use the phone as an AP (wifi , usb or BT tether)?
BUT, ABOVE ALL ...
where do i find all the needed app?
I mean, the market seems tailored only to make you spend money.
There a lot of music file to download, but where are free apps?
In the Android Market you have a plethora of free apps, but i cannot find free apps for WP7 in its market, i only see apps to buy...
How can i have my Hd2 / WP7 ready to a daily use, comparable with android?
where are simple useful apps like
tapatalk, a nav, layar, wikitude, news and highlights, dictionaries, comic readers...
how can i customize the home screen like the easy android widget way?
I think i am missing something, it is my first dive into WP7 sea, so if an expert Wp7 lifeguard lends a hand, i would really appreciate any advice...
thanks in advance.
To answer your second question. No you won't be able to run any of your current Navigational software on WP7. From what i've gathered, there is currently no good paid for app for it. So no Copilot, TomTom, IGO.
It's the only thing keeping me from changing over to it actually.
WP7
Market Place is the best place to go. Search xda to find other apps, there are entire sections deticated to apps on this site. The only problem with installing from places other than the market place is that your phone has to be unlocked. If the app is not an Official app, meaning it can be found on the Market Place, then sooner or later will run into an error message requesting that you uninstall the app. This because your phone automatically locks itself after a while. You can fix by unlocking the phone again, but you will have to keep doing it everytime you want to run or install unsigned apps. If you want free apps, swipe left to the free apps section in market place.
Windows Mobile apps are not supported on WP7. You can get T-Mobile TelNav from market place, just search for it keyword tmobile
Search windowsphone.com for support setting up and syncing outlook.
No tether or wi-fi support available yet, at least none has been mentioned by anybody yet.
As for those apps you are looking for, chances are they are not on WP7 as of yet. But to make sure, search Market Place for them. To do so follow these steps: When in market place press the Home key. This will open Market Place search. (Outside of market place this key will open bing search)
For customizations go to windowsphone.com for guides and tutorials on how to use the phone and customize.
Most questions about windows phone 7 can be answered by searching or going to windowsphone.com

I am dual booting WP7 and Desire Z, I use co-pilot from Desire Z.
I have the same question about contact elsewhere but no responses.
I have separate contacts on my hd2 and hotmail and wish to keep them separate.
When you register your hotmail on wp7 it automatically downloads all 700 contact which I don't want in my phone.
My hd2 is synced with outlook but I don't think you can sync wp7 with outlook.
I had an omnia 7 for a week and returned it keeping my hd2
Reluctant to flash to wp7 nit I know I can move my 300 phone contacts over.
Non tethering is a real pain. HTC did confirm to my directly that the HD7 does support tethering but the function has been removed by the operators

It is a SD build, it is Dandiest's Desire Z 2.1 (the 2.2 fix / update caused it to lock up when mounting the SD card YMMV).
I followed this post : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913815 and the post it links to because at the time I could only mount one SD card at a time via my HD2.
I recomend reading the whole post and the post it links to several times before starting, I rushed into it and as a result made mistakes by not following the instructions properly, what should have taken 2-3 hours (mounting 1 SD card at a time) took nearer 8 LOL! cause I kept redoing steps until I realised how / where I was doing them wrong. This was last Sunday.
EDIT: I have a 16 gig class 6 SD card and an 8 gig SD class 6 card, I used the 8 GIG initially when installing MAGLDR and WP7 then following the instructions above transfered the WP7 partition to the 16 GIG card. This gave me a smidging under 8 gig for WP7 and a smidging under 8 gig for Android, not huge but not too shabby neither. I see you can buy 32 gig cards now, but the fast ones cost £80 so that is something for my future

You can go to Settings, Email & Accounts, click on the accounts and uncheck contacts, except for hotmail. Go figure. But I think you can sync with outlook using exchange server directly, if not sync using exchange with google and sync outlook with google as well.

WP8: change marketplaces (glitch found) ?

Possable hack or glitch, that is why I am posting here.
According to a few sites, a glitch has been discovered by setting a proxy, you can make your non-nokia phone be able install apps from Nokia's apps.
Sites for info...

http://www.wpdang.com/archives/98835.html
http://www.wpcentral.com/glitch-spotted-windows-phone-store-lumia-apps
Does anyone have clear directions on this so everyone knows how to do it?
Also, I am hoping this would allow us to get to the point of a Marketplace Changer like we used to have for WP7 devices.. I personally would like some HTC apps on my Nokia...and a LG app too.
Figured this would be a great place to start a discussion on this.
The basic "hack" is dead simple, actually. In a way, this is easier than the old Marketplace Switching apps; those worked by changing some configuration files on the phone; this works by editing the communication between the phone and the Marketplace servers *as if* those files had been changed.
It's probably worth the time to write up a small utility to do this yourself, rather than relying on a third party proxy (never a good plan if you don't have to do it). It might even be possible to make the proxy run as an app on the phone itself (it would need to be sideloaded, since there's no way MS would permit such a thing, and you'd probably still need to be on WiFi, but it might be possible).

Here is a question on this. Is there a list of "proxies" for different carriers/OEMS ? I could not find anything besides this one. Do you know how I can access HTC, Samsung, LG, etc list ?
How does one access the marketplace of another OEM than Nokia ? (I have a Nokia so that is not an issue for me)
It's just a matter of changing the ID string for the phone when it's talking to the Marketplace servers. I'll look into writing a tool to do it.

Hi ,GoodDayToDie
Try fiddler2 to modify the request send by the phone when talking to the Marketplace servers.
I have made some research and it's intresting.....
@Mattemoller90: Yes, but I can't promise that the app will install correctly afterward. Apps identify, in their manifests, the resolutions they support. If the app requires resolution that the phone doesn't have, the phone will most likely simply refuse to install it.
@GoodDayToDie
How can I cheat the Marketplace with Fiddler2 (for change the resolution) I want try
You are the best
Eh, I'm not going to write a full tutorial right now. Short version is install Fiddler, set it to proxy external connections (will need to be let through your firewall), set your phone to use your PC's IP address and Fiddler's listening port as the proxy, set Fiddler to intercept requests, and then open the Marketplace. You'll see an HTTP GET request from the phone to Microsoft's servers, and the URL will contain a bunch of details about your phone (manufacturer, model, version info, region, etc.) including resolution. Replace the resolution string with the one you want to pretend to have, then have Fiddler "Run to completion".
Note: You'll probably have to do this multiple times. It's OK to not do it for things like partial searches, but you'll of course need to do it for the final search query. It can be scripted, but that's outside the scope of what I'm going to tell you to do here. Look at how @xdevilium does it in his app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2362165
Can fiddler be used for other things? Like seeing where server updates are coming from, and how are phones interacts with developer registration?
Sent from my RM-917_nam_usa_100 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
In theory, yes it can (or any other HTTP/HTTPS proxy; there are several of them available). However, the functions you describe use HTTPS. To intercept SSL traffic, the proxy needs to forge certificates for the sites you connect to (unless it somehow got ahold of the site's private key). To have your phone trust the forged certificates, the proxy (including Fiddler, if you choose to enable it) can sign the forged certificates using its own private key; if the corresponding public key is trusted by the phone (which can be done just by sending the public key to the phone using email or bluetooth or something, and installing it) then the forged signatures will be trusted.
However, that's only true for the general case. For specific OS functionality, Microsoft (and all the other big mobile vendors) use a technique called "certificate pinning" where the SSL certificate must either exactly match a known certifiacte, or must be signed by an exact match. In this case, it doesn't work to install your proxy's certificate and have it be trusted; a feature using cert pinning doesn't even check the OS's trust store. Therefore, we can't intercept those specific communications.
It's frustrating.
I've never scripted Fiddler, I just re-wrote the requests by hand. It's easy enough; there aren't very many. I could tell you how to do it in a couple other proxy programs.
