Problems signing in to Market Place - Hero, G2 Touch General

Hi Guys,
Forgive me as I am a new user of the HTC Hero and I am trying to get in to the Market place. It asks me for a googlemail account, which I put in and my password and then it says it will connect to google and set up (may take 5 mins)
I am connected to my home wifi and all connections work fine otherwise.
It basically tries for a minute or so and then gives me:
"This could be a temporary problem or your SIM card may not be provisioned for data services. If it continues call customer service"
Any ideas?
Rich

Did you wrote your gmail account under first setup?
You need to go on 3g (atleast in Denmark) first time u log into market, then just go wifi

Yup my username/password in there, I also tried to sign up for a new account and still doesn't work!
Will try and do it via data connection when out and about rather than use my wifi!
Let you know how i get on!
Rich

i had the same problem. only way i could fix it was to do a factory reset of the phone and then right at the very beginning when you are setting it up to enter all the details.

Interesting....does factory reset clear address book?

yup, factory reset clears address book. Obviously you can't back it up to google just now - but you could back it up to an exchange account, or you could use htcsync to back it up to outlook... i'm sure there are marketplace apps to do this also
I had this issue, I skipped entering my google details during initial setup
after the factory reset, I was able to sign into google in the inital setup phase, using wi-fi

frymaster - thanks for this, just need to find out how to do a factory reset now!

thanks everyone for their help this has indeed (doing a factory reset) sorted out the issue! Excellent

Hi i have just recently hard reset my HD and something weird happened everytime i try to go onto the internet. Before when i set up my device it will automatically set up the internet setting for me and i can go online without a problem. and now after i hard reset it will connect to the internet but it will bring the connection setup page up saying new connection setup database found do you want to install it? If i press yes it will start downloading but it wont complete. if i press no then it will just bring me back to the browser which i can still connect to the internet. is there any way to stop this popup from happening? Thanks
so no one knows why?

Hi marktang - this looks like to me the connection database update from several weeks back. That makes sense if you do a hard reset - once you connect to the internet there is a HTC application or operator application in the background that does this connection database check.
It should be harmless to say download. I did it early in the morning and got a full download OK.
If you search here in the forums you will find a long thread about this subject. At first when everyone got the new database notification it was hard to get a full download.
thanks i got it.

T-Mobile UK email 'sync error' and browser crash.

I'm having a very frustrating time with email and T-Mobile.
Swapped from Orange recently and for the life of me cannot access my email. I constantly get 'sync error' in the mail app. If I go to the Gmail home page Opera crashes!
I've checked every setting I can think of. Set up the account manually as POP rather IMAP. Gone back to stock SPL and rom. Called T-Mobile but they are clueless and not interested as they didn't supply my Blackstone.
It all works fine over wifi and putting in either an Orange or Three sim triggers the automatic set up which also works fine.
Put the T-Mobile sim back in and problem returns.
Please help save my sanity.
I apologise if this has come up before but have tried searching.
Thanks
Don't know if this helps but I also get an 0x80072f78 error when I try to connect to gmail.com with Internet Explorer.
Just a quickie thought, but have you done a proper hard reset? I flashed a ROM and couldn't get the auto network setup to come up. When I realised it needed a hard reset, I lost the configurations I'd spent some time playing with, but the auto network setup popped up and ended some of my problems.
I also found that I had to untick the proxy setting that T-Mobile accounts use. Not sure if it's important but it may solve your issues, and it works for me.
One other issue I have seen some people post is the 3G or HSDPA will only work properly once you disable it, reset, connect to data via GSM/GPRS then renable 3G, and possibly reset again. Food for thought, but the proxy option was the culprit for me.
Hey Nerdino
Was just about to write back and say I'd hard reset half a dozen times and double checked the proxy setting. To be sure though I checked the proxy again and it was checked! I may well have been hallucinating before but I don't think so.
Whatever though, I unchecked it and it's working fine.
Thanks very much indeed for the reply.

[Q] The "Cannot establish connection to Google server" issue resolved?

Hi,
My T-Mobile G2 got the same problem as that widely discussed on the net. I can not connect to my Google account anymore. That means I cannot use GMail, Market and the contact sync programs. I did the following trying to sort me out but all failed:
1. clear the settings for almost all the applications.
2. try to connect another Google account
3. Use wifi other than 3G or gprs.
What remains that I have not try is to reset the factory settings, that means I will lost everything. And, by searching the net, I found some people still had not survive the issue even after did the factory reset. So I am wondering if I should do it.
What's the current status about the issue? Without Google, my HTC looks like dull

[Q] Can't login using my google account

Hi
I just bought a new asus transformer but I cant use my google account on it. when I try to add a new accoutn it says "Can't establish a reliable connection to the server"
Please help!
Thanks
1. You made sure WiFi is turned on, right? Just thought I would ask in case you missed it, there are some who might miss an obvious thing like that .
2. Do you have 2-factor authentication enabled for your Google account? If so you'll need to create a one-time password to login with instead of your regular password.
Hi
We have the same devices
I have tried doing that but I need google authenticator on the tablet and I cant download it from the market because I cant login
Am I missing something?
Thanks
OK
I managed to turn on 2 step verification and generate a password but when i try to add my account using that password it still does not work...
on my samsung galaxy s it took 2 seconds to authenticate...
What version of Honeycomb are you running? Perhaps updating to the latest version might help if you don't already have it? Also have you made sure you're close enough to your router to get a decent signal? Have you got any kind of internet access via WiFi at all on your TF (try opening a web page)? If not it might be a problem with the TF's WiFi, or you could just try again later in case it's a Google issue. Also when you said your SGS connected in just a couple of seconds was it connected to the same WiFi network as the TF, or did it connect over your mobile signal?
[EDIT]: Did you tweak the WiFi network settings on your TF at all? You didn't try to set a manual IP address, did you?

reset yogabook, but cant setup again as im in china

so here i am in china, did a factory reset , pressed the setup in English and connected to the internet. now i cant get past that as china don't allow google to come in ha, so I'm stuck as what to do? any ideas on how to get round this would be good, i'd even put another operating stysem on it, but not that geeked up on how to do it. so i'd need a step by step process, i have a cable and pc . my sd card don't seem to work in it either , it worked at one point, but now it does not recognise. thanks for any suggestions
In order for someone to assist you get a working device (if that's even possible, I for one do not live or have any experience in China), you need to supply more information about your problem. Are you stuck in the installation process? Have you set up your device, but you can't download apps? Can you not boot your device, or any ROM you've tried?
The more detail you give, the quicker we'll be able to do what we can to help. Good luck =D
basically i did factory reset, i get to go to the first screen, (language set up) then the next screen which is internet connection (it wont let you continue without this as you have to verify the last google email address) then i just get a then i just get the 'checking info,,,' screen which just does not continue from, not even to put my email address in. it just stays on this screen until the battery dies. china bans anything do with google or facebook. so this is why it will not continue from there. i need a google free rom and how to install it please, sorry about late reply, the only time the image verification works is if i connect to a vpn, china is so rubbish for anything to do with the internet, slow speeds and even the captcha thing don't work unless you vpn first.

From memory, I'm pretty sure when you first begin the installation setup thingo, there's a "skip" button down the bottom. Just double check, it may be further in the installation process, but it's worth a shot. That should bypass the need for a Google account.
Is it possible for you to use a VPN on a computer, and set up network sharing so that when you connect the tablet to your computer, it'll use that internet connection? I'm fairly certain it's possible.

yes you cant skip that bit, it is at the start, because you not allowed to skip the google log in bit as it was factory reset and had a previous account, will try the other method though, thankyou

No problem. If you need help with anything else, feel free to ask.
Did you try not connect your Wifi in the first step on your yoga book? I had the same experience when initialing my Samsung S6 and did skip the google logging process by not giving the device the internet connection.
You have to be connected to Internet, won't let you proceed without doing so due to verifying your Gmail account,. What a nightmare ha
I imagine there are ways around the great firewall. Can you use a cellphone's data via a hotspot? Assuming you have service that isn't also blocked. Maybe you can configure your router to use a proxy. I have limited experience with Tor, but in your situation I'd be trying to configure an access point to route all traffic through Tor.

I'm no tech pro by a long shot, but know how to sidestep a few problems, all this networking confuses me, my router is in Chinese so understand that even less than anything. i will try and connect to my mobile phone through the vpn that is on it. . maybe i'm gonna have to admit defeat and take it to the tech pro's in the next town hahaha
Give your cellphone with a vpn a shot. Depending on your vpn's access to google, and if your phone routes hotspot data through the vpn. Short of that... Have you contacted google? Maybe they have a solution for customers in your situation. You'd think there would be easy work arounds. Tor would absolutely be the best avenue - if you could navigate your yoga books connection through it.
I'm in China. Here's what you can try if you haven't found anything else that works.
1. Download and install Lantern VPN (getlantern.org) on your PC.
2. Determine what your PC's IP address is by going to the command prompt and entering ipconfig /all. This works best if your PC has a static IP address as it therefore won't change if the PC restarts.
3. Right click on the Lantern shortcut and add -addr=IPADDRESS:8787 (where IPADDRESS is the IP address you found in step 2) to the shortcut target.
4. Run Lantern on your PC.
5. Connect your Yoga Book to the same wireless network as the PC, then in the Advanced settings section of the Wireless network settings enter in your PC's IP address as your proxy and 8787 as the port.
This should allow your Yoga Book to share the Lantern VPN connection with your PC and therefore get over the Great Firewall. If you get it set up correctly it will work - this is exactly what I used on my Yoga Book when starting it up and it worked just fine.
