Touchflo/manila version numbers - Touch HD General

I have done (and will continue to do) some searching, but I can't find the answer to this particular query:
I can find 2 places where the version number of Touchflo is stated, and they're different.
In the "HTC Touchflo Interface" - ie the main finger-usable swiping interface, if I go to the SETTINGS tab, and look down to "About" - I have TouchFLO 3D 1.3.35350.1_1630.38
BUT
In the "Windows Mobile" interface - if I go to "Settings" > "System" > "TouchFLO" > "About" - I have "Version 3.0 (Build 32567).
So we have 1 confusion there.
If a developer has made an app for "Manila v 2- 2.5" (for example) - which of the two numbers in my system do I refer to??
As I said, I have searched for this but have been unable to find a diffinitive answer. Are these two version numbers that I have for two different programs? (one supporting the other maybe??)
Can someone please explain this? It would be very useful to know what these version numbers refer to properly before getting interested in an app that someone has developed.
If it helps - my Touch HD was from Orange UK and I haven't done anything "major" to it apart from a few UI alterations (No_Curtains, MaxTFDTheme, tsowens_taskbar) and some minor registry edits (via the AdvancedConfig AEButton+, HDTweak add-ons) (and a fair bit of software. )

TouchFLO numbering
If you're using a stock ROM the 1.3 number you see is the Manila. Cooked ROMs have the recently released revamp of Manilla which is 2.0 or 2.1 (and even the unreleased 2.5).
The other number for TouchFLO I believe is to do with the kinetic scrolling capabilities making the interface finger friendly rather than stylus/scrollbar.
Someone with more/better knowledge may be able to tell you more (or correct me!)

Well first off latest version of manila available on cooked roms is only manila V2.5, though I believe V2.6 has just been leaked but not on any roms yet
Looks like your using a stock rom with manila 1.3
If you go to settings tab and scroll down to 'About' it should state correct manila version. Mine states 2.5.19172632.0, i.e. manila 2.5
If a developer refers an app to manila V2.0, V2.1 or V2.5 you refer to info in settings tab

So the settings tab in the touchflo interface is the important one?
ok, many thanks (and to afr33s ), that does clear up the issue somewhat. Is it worth making reference to this in the wiki somewhere??

iPhon-izing my tmo WING: Some final questions: Numbers 10-19

(UPDATE July 15, 3:40pm Pacific)
I've gotten the answers I need to Questions 1-9 below, thanks! Can anyone give a shot to any question from 10-19 ? Thank you much!
I figured out a lot from my "part 1" thread several months ago: Should I flash-ROM to a better WM version than T-Mobile's -- before installing ifonz? .. (thanks ivanmmj, alongenemylines, and particularly robpet2,for getting me into the ballpark.
Summary of part 1:
1. A lot of really fantastic ROMS and themes here for many different needs, look at pureskills' lists, investigate them.
2. I've spent 2 months with ifonz "iphone theme" however, and it really works for my sensibilities, even if it is not the speediest. So I wanted a rec on a ROM to use.
3. Advice was: Yes, flash to a lite ROM, then install the iPhone-like apps you want, a la carte.
I'm about to do that now, I've read all the sticky threads and the Herald wiki, but despite doing my homework, I still have a laundry list of things to clarify. Hope you can help

1. Am I supposed to first install HardSPL to facilitate flashing roms? (I see that some ROM instructions require it) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358615 ( My T-Mob Wing’s less than 4 months old. )
2. Is this correct: If I ever have warranty or other issues with Tmo, I would remove HardSPL using DaMyth’s sequence? ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=364543 ) to restore to unmodified version; yes?
3. Do I want or need this? “T-Mo Wing RUU for USA!!” ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=321717 )
4. I just bought 8g micro-SD HC flash card. I’ve read of need, sometimes, to partition it first, to fool ROM installers that sometimes misread storage capacity. Should I ? ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=267475 )
5. I got some recs on ROMS to start with ((( you can use ifonz with papas rc5 rom, but you will need to disable the bs plug in and the UL plugin.. )))
(thanks robpet2 for the links to screenshots here, here, here, here, here, here, and here .
Is this the latest rc5 ROM?
[Update 1/July/2008 Herald|Wing|Micro] ITsPapaBlackDiamond_19949.1.2.0
Google Link 1 / Link 2 (Google cache, since I can't get the actual thread to open)
6. I know BS = BatteryStatus, UL=UltimateLauncher. After I flash to rc5 ROM, is there an initial config sequence where I disable the bs plug in and the UL plugin?
7. Top-Level question about what TouchFlo controls: Does TouchFlo provide finger-scrollable navigation for everything in WindowsMobile, and in any apps added? When using iphone-like apps like A_C’s, does TouchFlo conflict, enhance, or irrelevant with those apps?
8. Some specific APPS: I don’t like “ContactManager” from http://pocketcm.com/contact.php . It doesn't display notes, too many steps to edit, non-intuitive method of adding a contact. Do you have rec for finger-scrollable contact mgr that has large-type so I can use in car? (California now has “hands free” law re cellphones, so i’m looking for big-type interface, but with full functions of windows-default Contacts App. )
9. Every DIALER I see has no link to CONTACTS, yet has History. Have you seen any Dialer that has one-touch access to CONTACTS?
10. PCM Keyboard: It’s worked well for me while I’ve used ifonz. Anything better now, or is this still best?
11. Music Player: I've used MortPlayer, is there anything new/better?
a. Function I would like with MortPlayer: while it’s playing music in bg, I’m doing other things. I want instant access to pause, next track without having to get back into MP app. Possible?
b. MP skins: have you seen selections other than on his site? I can't find any I like, especially for CAR.
12. QuickMenu -- I really like this a lot. And it’s worked fine with ifonz. Will it work with papa’s rom? I change my windows hard-key to invoke QuickMenu.
13. Browser -- I like Netfront, but have yet to have any access to Skyfire. But Netfront lacks handy BACK button; it’s 2 steps away. Do most here use OperaMini? If so, does “StartOperaMini” work with the configurations I am building -- papa’s rc5, plus ifonz app? I tried it with my current stock t-mobile ROM and couldn't get it to work. ... or, maybe I just coudn't find the correct link to it to assign to an icon.
14. IMAGE VIEWER/ cropper: WindowsMobile's standard app is clunky. Is there better one? I tried A_C’s S2V, but it's problematic.
15. VOLUME/ Mute: I’d tried a few, didn’t like, but have you seen/tried “SET VOLUME” ? new as of a few days ago
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-setvolume.html
16. Is TRANSCRIBER avail as an independent cab file? I'm prob one of the few people who use it and like it.
17. RECORD: I also like this app from default T-mobile wing (audio notes) (not sure if its WindowsMobile or HTC, but it's NOT the newer HTC Voice Notes app, which is meant for MMS, and audio quality is poorer)
18. VOICE COMMAND: The only thing I care about is in the car, dialing a contact, by speaking into my headset's mic. With WM5, i liked the VOICE TAGS to specifically associate with contacts. It’s gone now in WM6 with their new recognition system. ... Are there any add-on apps that enable voice-tags tied to contacts? The default app doesn;t work for me because I force the order of many of my contacts by beginning the entry with 01_name 1, 02_name 2, etc.
19. OTHER: I looked at ASerg’s CABS - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1961488&postcount=123 - Do you rec I add some of these to my microSD “to have available” after I flash to papas rc5, or “No opinion either way”? He puts his name in front of these apps, so does this mean he’s tweeked them, or just made the cabs to help install those apps more easily to his ROMs ?
Aserg Hard-Spl.4.70.yan *** is this what I need to install to WING before flashing rc5 ?
Aserg Remove-Hard-Spl *** should I get this?
ASerg HTC Scrolling.cab *** is this an alternative to TouchFlo, something different; useful to me?
ASerg Advanced_Configuration_Tool_2.1.0.cab *** This is just for his ROMS, right?
ASerg HTC_Task_Manager_2_0_31261_1US.cab *** Is this different from X-button ?
ASerg Fix-SmartDial&Scroll-Contacts-US&RUS.cab ***
ASerg NoDeleteCab.cab *** Is this the app that maintains your CABS on storage card so they are there again for later re-install?
ASerg Increase_in_sensitivity_TouchPanel.cab *** any experience with this? *** what is it meant to do?
ASerg Touch_Dual_Dialer_2G_US.cab *** have you tried, is it recommended?
--- end ---- Thanks for any numbered answers you can give. It's be nice if my whole message isn't quoted for replies, but I'll be thrilled with anything I can get. I'm not one who has time to test a bunch of things. I need to get this phone functional in a way that suits my workflow, then use it
Get an iPhone.
yeah that's funny except WM /Wing has more
I don't mind snark, if that's what that was.
But WindowsMobile devices offer more of what I need and like, including Video and transcriber recognition (something I use a lot) -- and these are no small matters for me and how I use a PDA device. I also like this open community and the constant development, and the ability to access my phone's ROM, and the microSD.
This has nothing to do with iPhone envy. Even if iPhone had all the features I want & like, I also actually have tremendous issues with ATT for their unlawful pervasive domestic spying of every citizen in USA, and you know what -- that matters to me.
And fact is, other than some performance problems due to OEM software creating no headroom, what I've been using (ifonz, with A_C's apps, PCMkeyboard, etc) has been fantastic for me -- best of both worlds -- which for me is the point.
Only 6-9 months ago there was tremendous attention to all these iPhoney issues, and the ifonz theme release caused several developers here to abandon further development on their own approaches to similar interface.
All I am looking for is performance improvement and slimming down the OS -- which is why I inquired about how to achieve that, and got a recommend from several people here about how to do this.
These are all refinement questions -- since I'd like to just get to it and take the time-hit required to accomplish this and then rebuild the app-set and icnon configuration that has WORKED GREAT for my needs. And all of these relate to making good choices before the downtime.
So I hope there's more to offer than your answer. gracias.

Yes, doing a HardSPL will make it much easier to flash most custom-made ROMS. Highly recommended.

Yes, following his method will allow you to reflash an original t-mobile ROM in case you ever need to return it for warranty purposes (though sometimes the reps don't scrutinize the details, from what i hear)

That's optional...it's useful if you ever want to revert back to the original t-mobile stock rom...however most people forgo this after they start flashing custom roms. (you could keep it saved, just in case you ever need to return it for warranty reasons, in which case you'll be following the steps in question 2, and then flashing this RUU)

in most custom roms to disable batterystatus and ultimatelauncher, you should go into settings--> personal-->today and uncheck the boxes in the items tab for both programs.

not 100% sure on this, but i've noticed that the touchflo controls do have scrolling capabilities in most programs, ie word, excel, explorer, internet explorer.

in the default dialer (and i think most other dialer skins), you can hit your right softkey button and it will open up your contacts list.

I hope it's okay to say this (not sure of etiquette here)... but robpet2 highly recommends that I do NOT install it -- and instead use Flashing Center... and I am presuming that is because he is sensitive to my being a total newbie, and just providing an extra layer of security for me from doing something wrong in the sequence. btw, I don't know what Flashing Center is -- is this an app for Windows XP/ Vista? If so is it something I need to download ? (I use XP)

Now that you mention it, I now recall that. I have been using some addon dialer, and in that spot the soft menu item says "Menu", not contacts. Could you tell me is the dialer that comes from papa's latest (July 1st) rom a custom-dialer or the HTC dialer with unique skin. And does it have "Contacts" in the right hand soft-key?

Please Help Noob Question

Hi All
I want to install touch flo 3d on my x1, but I have a question.
1, What is the difference between the Manilla and the Touch flo 3d cab?
Sorry I have tried trawling through the threads but there are so many pages and non friendly noob terminology it is very easy to loose your way.
I am sure a brief simple explanation will help many others who are in the same early learning stage of WM
Thanks
Hi,
Sorry im also fairly new to Winmo and this forum! Please someone correct me if im wrong but this is how I see the difference being...
it depends which variations of touch flo software your looking at.. however the most popular seems to be the one ported from the HTC HD (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442154)
The Manilla cab will just contains the Touch Flo 3d interface and no other applications. i.e - if you try and go into picture album tab it wont work and will say there are files missing (because you have only installed the TouchFlo3d interface, not any of the applications that integrate with it. You can download them individually (look in the thread above, 2nd post)
If you install the Full cab they normally contain the essential applications which enables you to use the more common features / tabs built into TouchFlo3D (for example the AudioManager, Album Tab etc)
If you go to the thread above, the first post is for the "full" cab - it shows you what the "full" cab comes with
Full cab with Manila HD.
Now Includes:
Youtube
Album
Audiomanager
Taskmanager (x-button)
MhubVO (Diffrent systemfiles, drivers, mediafilters etc)
Flash3
ConcurrenceMgr (you dont need to know what it does, its just systemfiles needed by other apps)
In Short
Full Cab = TouchFlo3D Interface with most common used Apps
Manilla = Just the TouchFlo3D interface, enables you to install the applications you require so you can maybe hide the tabs of those you dont use
Thank you
Thats exactly what I needed to know.
Cheers
Should I install it on the Sd or on the phone?
Does it make any difference where the cab is installed to? other than the obvious
Reading files from the internal storage is always quicker than reading from the SD card so for that reason I try to always put my speed dependant applications onto the phone storage.
Regards,
Craig

[APP]Yota Phone - Yota Contacts [28 January] WVGA, VGA, and QVGA

[APP]Yota Phone - Yota Center [27 January] VGA & WVGA updated
See post below
This is a translation of the original Yota Contacts application that comes with the HTC Quarts (MAX 4G) phone on the Yota network in Russia. Several people helped translate this from russian by hexediting the dialer application or translating the language xml in the skin. Cloudyfa released the first translated dialer.
Below you will find cabs for the YotaContacts application as well as the Yota Dialer. The two cabs below ONLY works for VGA devices (Touch Diamond and Touch Pro).
NONE OF THESE CABS WORK WITH CDMA DEVICES. This means the Verizon Touch Pro, the Sprint Touch Diamond and Touch Pro, etc
Please install these cabs to INTERNAL storage, not your storage card.

Link to TF3D icon skinned version of above cab. http://www.mediafire.com/?wionn0hzwzn
Link to Yota Contacts Only without the Yota Dialer > YozyCloud YotaContacts
If you're having any installation problems with these cabs (or the ones below this post) install SDKCERTS.CAB from the following link http://www.4shared.com/file/37343459/78d124a5/sdkcerts.html. SDKCERTS installs special certificates to allow applications that aren't signed by microsoft(or signed with the SDK certificates) to run properly.
------------------------------------------
Benefits:
- Yota Contacts completely replaces the built in windows Contacts application.
- New dialer that's much faster then the built in dialer.
- Favorites groups
- Better onscreen keyboard
Minuses:
- No easy VoiceMail access (holding down 1 doesn't work). The "New Voicemail" link on TF3D's homescreen also doesn't work.
- No "face down mute" feature.
- No "bluetooth on/off switch" while in a call.
- No "Slide to Answer".
- No "Company Directory" lookup if you're hooked up to a company Exchange server.
- This app doesn't display special characters in the contact names.
- S2U2's caller ID functions HAVE to be disabled (they conflict with the Yota Dialer)
- If you have a password lock on the phone, it will impede your ability to answer the phone quickly, because you will have to input the password before you can hit "Answer" on the screen.
- No video calling or "Videoshare" (yet)
Please keep in mind that none of the people involved in translating this application, actually developed it. This came from the HTC Quartz, which is a WiMax phone operating on the Yota network in Russia. Therefore, any requests you might have, to add this or that, CAN NOT, and I can't stress this enough, CAN NOT, even be considered. The reason ? We don't have the source code for the applications included in this package. All we can do is make graphical skin changes or translations to other languages... to a point. Also, the keyboard can't be extracted either, it's an integral part of YotaContacts.exe.
One more thing to remember is this app takes up quite a bit of RAM, which on a Diamond, Touch Pro, Touch HD, etc is not really an issue, since we have plenty of RAM. On a QVGA device, you should consider this before installing it, ESPECIALLY if you only have 64 Megs of RAM to start with.
There's several versions of this floating around, the version I posted here has the green dial key on the "dialer" screen. There's also versions found below that have this removed, in order to increase the area above the dialpad where you can see more than one contact. You will have to use the hardware dial button to make phone calls.
The application takes a few seconds (at least) to start the first time you use it after you turn the phone on. It's recommended to either put a shortcut to YotaContacts.exe in the startup folder, or after you run it, keep it running in the background, so it instantly comes on when you need it later.

ok i made some cabs with my latest VGA skin
these ones also have registry entries so it changes the default contacts app and also on your TF3D the Left Soft Key goes to Yota Contacts
for the latest version see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3222587&postcount=504
*teorouge to change the language, just extract the YotaContactsSkin.zip and go into languages, u'll find an xml file there
copy the eng.xml file and rename it to ita.xml, then translate the words and save
to activate the italian language u then go to Yota Contacts\Config\config.xml and set the language to ita

Omg I would love this app!
Yota Center
The program allows a quick start of all of the standard applications as well as the programs that the user has installed. It also forms a catalog of programs available for installation, helping the user to select and quickly install the programs that are needed. The Center checks for and informs the user about the updates available for the programs that are installed.
Works great on touch pro, thanks
does sync option syc my contacts with yota server?

So far so good on my AT&T Fuze.. Not knocking iContact but this is way better. Thanks for the share!

Not that I can see. I have two ROM dumps and I don't see the files in either one, or anything remotely close to it. I'm starting to think that some things might be inside manila? Anybody want to attempt and package up the TF3D for the Yota and convert it from Russian to English?
I looked into it some more and I found out why we can't find anything in the official ROMs. The only thing in the official is that YotaLoader application that downloads all these addons (YotaContacts being one of them) AFTER the ROM is installed and the device is all setup. I guess when you're on a WiMAX network you can afford to do that, bandwidth wise. Hehe So we're SOL until YOTA decides to provide the missing MUI files in an "over the air" download, AND some smart russian on the Yota network will be kind enough to share it with the rest of us
p.s. Everybody having "issues" with the dialer and what ever.. READ the thread. There's several versions of this posted and some of the HAVE the dialer while other don't. For example, my version (VGA) has the Yota dialer, and even though it's in russian, it doesn't bother me at all.
p.s.s. For Alltheway... People already ported TF3D fromt he Quartz(Max4G), but it doesn't differ from the regular TouchHD version... so not much to gain from that....:/

Titanium and wm6.5

Dear friends, I just installed RRE Series 6 WM 6.5 Build 21501 BETA 2 ROM for my Fuze and I think it is an awesome RO, but for the Titanium, I really need to understand some more about it. I searched a lot and found titanizer and CHome Editor v1.5 beta by showaco, and can't seem to understand about the tabs or the panels how does they work. can I, for example, put a panel for internet calling, for wifi management, or these panels are only for using as is, and can be only hidden, because even when trying to create a new panel I can't use it for example as a launcher, please guide me in the right direction

Sure you can use a panel as launcher, check in the CHome Editor thread or in the WM 6.5 themes thread. You create a panel and save it, then you create a new page and there you set the program to launch, then you create another page and you set another program to launch and so on, up to 20 pages are possible. In the above indicated threads you find a lot of info and tips to do that.

Looking for Specific Cab

I would like to first start by saying that I have searched tirelessly on Google, XDA, and other PDA forums. Maybe I am just blind, but I can't seem to find it. In every Manilla 2D build I downloaded it came included with a version of HTC Audio Manager... It had a bigger, more finger friendly, library view. I checked the version last time I was on an M2D build and it said it was Audio Manager 2.*cant remember the rest*, but all I am finding on all of these cab collections is the older 1.0 version with the smaller library view. I was wondering if someone could help me...
You might have had one intended for VGA devices. I think I know what you're talking about, though, and I think it came with the final version of OpenTouch.
On that note, I'm looking for the version of Manilla2D that marks text messages as read when you read them in the M2D interface. If anyone knows where to get that, I'd be most appreciative.

Yeah that CAB is for the previous version. Version 2 has larger menus and album art support... I ended up finding a way to get version 2 working on a non-Manilla ROM, but it involes using two cabs.
You install the HTC_Audio_Manager_2.2_1822.3925_L0.cab first, and then the 4. 2D_Audio_Manager.cab second. If you don't install the second cab, the application wont launch, if you don't install the first cab, the application wont show up in your Start Programs.
After you install both Cabs, the application will be located in Programs- Multimedia- Audio Manager.
