Any App exist to do band switching during and after web browsing? - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Hi All,
anyone know an app that can auto switch to 3G mode when using web browser (like opera or PIE) goto internet and then change back to 2G when i am done?
this will save a lot of time doing band switching
thanks.
i don't know if this should be post here, but if this app not exist, then may be it is a good idea to create one.

What is your phone doing when you're not browsing? IM? Email? If nothing else is using data, just leave it on 3G. Data online without doing anything doesn't use any battery.
However, if you have online IM or Email, EDGE will save you some battery life at the expense of speed and ability to have data during calls.

yo i wanted an app like this too. before this thread, i was under the impression 2g drained less energy than 3g. Anyway, another reason for something like this is to prevent dropped calls when leaving a 3g zone (aus).

App to monitor data usage ?

Can anybody recommend an app to monitor my data connection ?
Similar to SPB Wireless on WM.
Any help really appreciated.
3G Watchdog.
I got a widget off the market called data counter, simple front end that sits on my home screen with lots of stats and options in the background, works good for me

NetCounter is also a good one, free on the market.

Doesn't work for Wifi on mine, and the cell counter is WELL out as well. I've been downloading quite a bit via 3G over the last week, and it reckons I've only downloaded 1.24MB...
+1 for 3G watchdog - does what it says on the tin. Very pleased with it...
I just tried the "3G Watchdog", but I cannot see any option to "disable" it.
Once I activated by setting it, I saw the icon ets ... but I cannot de-activate / disable / turn it OFF.

Only way I know of to do it is to close it under running services and then open the app again next time you are going to use mobile data.
I just keep it on as I keep my phone on mobile data unless I need to browse the web at home as the wifi is crap for notifications, they hardly seem to work when the screens locked on wifi.
3G watchdog is great!

data usage monitor app - for each app??

Hi
Is there any app that can be used as monitoring the data usage of each application?
On example how many kb using mail app, google talk, google maps etc...
So, per application data usage
Thank you
There was a thread asking the same question a while back and it seems the answer is no
I'd post a link but I'm still a newbie
I would like such a app myself - but as a workaround you can dial *#*#4636#*#* , click "battery protocol" (or something like that, my phone is in german...), in the first dropdown "network usage" and then click on the apps and it will tell you how many bytes the program sent/received.
Nice one, that let me see what it was that was using up so much data.
i have an ap called 1013 in this list, but when I click it, I get an error..
does anybody know what this could be?
because its bar is completely filled!!
there's also a bar for media, thats quite high, any ideas what this could be?
because I haven't used any music photo or movie app since I've stopped charging..
3G Watchdog can help
i have been use it for a month... so far so good

Or use the Spare Parts app which essentially does this but in a more user friendly way
I've been using software called Network Statistics. It does exactly what your asking but with a few quirks. It doesn't differentiate WiFi from mobile data so I had to reset the counter when switching from one to the other. The only way I've found to reset the counter is to pull out the battery.
That said, it helped me pinpoint fairly quickly what background app was ripping through my data allowance (foursquare).
It seems the author no longer supports it, but it's still available for 50p. http://www.appstorehq.com/networkstatistics-android-174793/app/buy

This seems to be able to monitor battery and CPU by app but not network use by app? Or am I missing that somewhere?

I've been searching for similar apps as well (light weight)
Found another option...

Seems to use built in data monitored by the os, for ver 2.2 onwards only though.

You need root for: eNETraffic
For what I can tell it only records 3G traffic
And it has the option to block internet access per application only on 3G (when on WiFi everyone allowed, on 3G some blocked)
Dan.
I use 'My Data Manager', it shows usaage by app and also by 3g and Wifi and has several months of data backed up.
There's a free version with ads and a paid one without.
See:
http://bit.ly/s86P3V
Or just falsh one of ICS roms. They've built in data usage monitor with limits, monitoring for each app and other cool stuff.
eNETraffic has new update that includes wifi. Works great. Do need root.

Switching from 3g to 2g...question for devs

Hey guys,
I work in an area where my 3g signal is really weak and cuts in and out. This really effects my battery quite a bit. However I have been using that # *#* number to get into the phone settings and change the setting to cdma only which seems to put my phone in 2g mode (is that true?)..and thn back to automatic to get 3g back. My question is is it possible for some of you to develop an app or a widget which could do this with a single click?
Thank you
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Couldnt you do that with power widget plus? I do something similar since I'll in a bad area as well except I use it to reset my data connection so to speak.
Sent from my DROIDX
Well I have extended controls installed all I can do with that is turn off data completely..from what I gather none of the power widgets support cdma devices when switching between 2 and 3 g
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
You don't want to go 1x. The data rate is pitiful at 153 Kbps max.
I just use Bettercut and make a data manager shortcut and just turn off manually the internet saves more battery than 1x connection

There is an app on the market, called Network which takes you to that menu with the push of a button. No need to enter in all those #*#*#*##* digits
Another way is to use AnyCut to set a shortcut to the field test menu where all of those settings are available.
Thanks

[TWEAK] Boost your 3G speeds drastically

First of all, I was a bit confused about the section in which I should create this thread. I consulted few people and they said development section. If this is in wrong section, I would request the mod to move it to the correct section.
Okay people, so I came across these things when I googled for increasing 3G speeds.
This can benefit you of getting 3g speeds on 2g, like me. You just need to switch to 'wcdma only'
How to switch to 'wcdma only' mode?
Settings -> Wireless and networks -> Mobile Networks -> Network Preferences -> WCDMA only
Or
Type *#*#4636#*#* in dialer, Select Phone information, scroll down and set preffered network type to WCDMA only.
Follow ahead :
(This will mostly work for indians. And maybe for you too )
1) Download this software called 3g/4g speed optimizer from market - https://play.google.com/store/apps/...DEsInByb3Zpc2lvbi5uZXRzcGVlZC5vcHRpbWl6ZXIiXQ
2) Download this script manager - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=os.tools.scriptmanager&feature=search_result
3) Download the 3G turbcharger script by zeppelinrox attached to this post
NOTE: You might want to compare the speed differences before applying this tweak and after applying this tweak. If so, then download Speedtest app from Google Play and test speeds using it.
Now Follow ahead
Start 3g/4g speed optimizer
-choose network speed as 12/28/7-max speed
-check on down speed increase
-now click on apply tweak.
!!!RESTART YOUR DEVICE!!!
Now open script manager
-browse to the downloaded 3g turbocharger text file
-check on superuser icon(N00BS: the android skeleton icon)
-click on run. script will load. wait till it asks to make a selection...
-scroll up and see what setting you need. fast, faster or fastest. I would recommend fastest. enter the option number.
-again enter the option to reboot.
thats it!
After reboot, your 3G speeds should be increased
To check your speeds, again download something from play store, something bigger than 2-3 megabytes would be preferable as it lets you see how far the speeds can get.
NOTE 2: This may not work for everyone, if it doesn't work for you, dont blame me, you are probably getting the max speed from your network operator. Also I would again like to mention that Indian users will be mostly benefited with this tweak.
I would like to thank my friend shreyas.kukde who let me share this tweak. Please take a moment to visit the original thread by him and press the Thanks button there - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1568959

Read the steps properly. You must have missed out something. And I have already mentioned that this tweak might not work for everyone.

Hi, thanks for the info. But could you pls explain the highlighted line. i just feel the two sentence contradict each other. "3g speed on 2g" is great but enabling "wcdma only mode" would get check only the 3g signals, right?

Its like. Sometimes even though you are on a 2G network, you still get 3G signals even though you havent subscribed for 3G. So, if you enable WCDMA only mode, your phone MIGHT start getting 3G signals and you can enjoy 3G speeds even on 2G network.
strangely I can use 3g on 2g packs by using the auto mode..without using this tweak

With 2g i only get edge Signal, but it seems it is faster than before...
Question ?
I havent tried your process yet..
I was just cusious how did you achieve..not the process
I mean logic behind gettin higher speed..
Does carrier put some limit with speed with which we can browse net..
If they put limit.how does this method handle it..?
Or something else

nice 2g speeds
well im on 2g data plan (tata docomo), so im not granted access to its 3g network,
i used to get 10-15kBps on 2g EDGE..(CM7.2),
all i did was:
Start 3g/4g speed optimizer
-choose network speed as 12/28/7max speed
-check on down speed increase
-now click on apply tweak.
<AS STATED in 1st post>,
2g edge data speeds now increased to 25-29kBps.. youtube streaming working smoothly on 2g

Its just the opposite mathew
It places download as the priority instead of upload. Operators usually set a mid value to balance upload and download speeds.

wifi trick

Hi guys
I've a few applications that really want Wi-Fi to function. I want to trick them while on 3G.
Can this be done?
On iPhone you've a great app on cydia which is fixed in 1 minute.
Android should be easier right?
