Gps application (that supports usa map) - XPERIA X1 General

Hi, im still new to the whole GPS in the xperia.
i understand that theres a chip inside the xperia that allows the detection of satellite.
Now ive been looking for a GPS application that supports USA road map.
i have download ttn7.915.9196.vga_black (tomtom7) but found out in the official site that it does not have US maps.
Does anyone else know other brand of GPS apps that supports xperia and also allow downloading(purchasing) of US maps?
Thanks alot. Your help is greatly appreciated.
NOTE: Does the xperia support tom tom navigator 6???? if so does anyone have the link for ttn6 or any search keyterms?

I use iGo8 (X1 support TMC now!) and IG4 most of the time

Is there a cab for the Ig8 or ,as i see on the site, buy the SD card that contains the map?

I'm using TTN 6.x on my x1. i have to set it up so that first i use wvgafix3 to adjust my devices resolution, then launch ttn. i got it used of ebay for 30 bucks, and i am generally pleased with it.

Can anyone recommend non-road navigating GPS software?

Hi all.
I'm looking for a GPS program with will show me things like OS grid references and other datums, as well as displaying my position on a map, and use a bluetooth gps reciever on my M5000.
Has anyone got any recommendations? If the software has a demo period that'd be even better!
Any recommendations gratefully recieved.
You can try memory map.
You can use OS maps and it will show your position on the map.
There is a demo but I think it only lets you use a certain map.
Hope that helps

Is this coming out? If so, do you have any idea when? Cheers.
Yes,
try OziExplorer
There is a test version.
You can import your own raster image maps
Calibration tool is as well available.
Using it since years now on different PDAs.
Look here: http://www.oziexplorer.com the CE Version is it
Works fine with Bluetooth GPS on my MDA Pro
Thanks all for the advice, I shall have a look at the suggested ideas.

Best Gps Navigation Software

hello everyone!
i am going to buy a gps mouse today, the hollux 236, and now i am wondering, what you think are the best apps to use with a gps mouse!?
most of all i am interessted in navigation software, like TomTom for example. but what are the alternatives to TomTom? what's your recommended nav software?
i would also like to know, what other usefull apps there are to use with a gps mouse...?
any info is appreciated!
thx in advance,
krz
I would definetly go for tomtom navigator 6, its the best ive ever used simple yet effective
IGO - the best for driving navigation
Wich country
You will not always have the choice because not always navigation software have the maps for the countries you want.
for exemple, Tom Tom is a lot for Europe and USA and Mapking for Asia
I am using three on my Artemis:
iGO 2006 Plus with the lastest Portuguese/Spanish maps (2007.07);
TOMTOM 6.032 (8351)with the latest Iberia maps (675.1409);
ROUTE66 Navigate7 with the latest Iberia maps (Q4, 2006 i think);
Both TOMTOM and iGO work better than Route66 because R66's maps are very old and i can't find anything more recent. My favourite is TOMTOM because of its ease of use and overall speed starting up/navigating. iGO has got the looks and the maps are as good (or seem to be) as TOMTOM's.
I also have a TOMTOM GO V3 standalone navigator with version 7 of both the software and maps (Iberia Version 710) and those are way more updated than version 675.1409. Also it has much more detail on the maps.
All this text to say that if TOMTOM7 comes out for the PDAs it's gonna be a winner for me.
i would say garmin...now there is the new mobile xt prog for free for ppc...correct maps for europe...including deep city view
thx for the answers!
i think, i will give iGo Plus a shot....
what other cool tools should i get for working with the gps...?
i once heard of tools to programm or configure the gps mouse...?
interessted in more tips and tricks,
krz

If anyone of you have a GPS software with Middle East Maps, so please can you give me.

Where do you get this sw free?
http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/site/us
you can visit that site for further information, i guess garmin works the same way tomtom does, so you can get the software for free and maybe a test map and the only thing you need to buy are the maps. i didn't look up the price for a us / north america map now, because i am at work and the garmin site is really slow.

TMC on TomTom for NL users

Hi Folks,
I was wondering a while ago if there would be a way to use the internal FM-radio for TMC purposes in TomTom which is pre-installed on the Cruise.
After a bit of searching on the web, i found a small program called DecoRDS, made by J.R. Pueyo (big credits to him!)
Now, i installed this on my Cruise with TomTom6 and initially it didn't work.
So, here are my settings on which the tool works and seems to work (haven't established a full working setting just yet):
Code:
1. Install both files provided from the link on your device. NOT MEMORYCARD
2. Run DecoRDS
3. go to Input, Port, and set it to COM4
4. go to Input, 9.600 bps and set it to 57.600 bps
5. Press OPEN, which will start the RDS tuner
6. go to Input, CONTROL, and select manual. Now you can search the frequencies for the RDS signal.
(optional: 7. enter 98,6 since it's Radio 1 with ANWB TMC for Netherlands)
Now, this SHOULD work, but i haven't figured it out completely yet, since it doesn't work in TomTom yet.
Anybody interested in helping me find out?
Here's the rapidshare: http://rs13.rapidshare.com/files/59746182/DecoRDS_Netherlands_beta.zip
Don't you need the wired earphones attached for the radio to receive any signals?
most certanly you do,
or at least a spliter (htc usb to audio usb and charge)
Great discovey,
can you post a link to the program's webpage to keep informed on future releases ?
sorry i can't help test it
My cruise is in service, and in romania there isn't any station with tmc
I searched so long for an application like this!!! Is it only working for NL users? Can it also work with iGO8?
thanks
hompage is www.lacasadelgps.com but i can't find any information about the software
a lot of information here
it looks like it is possible to have TMC on normal PDAs. even more it is possible to have TomTom use the TMC data.
After reading the forum I see that it is possible to use TMC in some countries.
This due to the fact that you need "translation tables". these tables "translate" the name of the road (say A12) to map coordinates in TT. It looks these tables are only available for Spain and Italy at the moment.
... and .de and .nl

DecoRDS's purpose is to decode RDS data received by a GPS-TMC receiver. It decodes the NMEA wrapping, maps the TMC location code to a geographical position using location tables then it send the information to Tomtom.
It does not work as far as I know with HTC Touch Cruise/Polaris internal radio.
You might be right, as i can't seem to get any frequency with a working RDS signal. I have the frequency, but the program doesn't seem to use the internal radio... Bummer. Wonder if it could, only problem is, i don't have any knowledge of programming...

Not true
TT is able to use TMC. If TT7 has the subroutines to use it I do not know. TT is using the same programmingcode for all their devices. They sell their own TMC receiver. http://www.tomtom.com/products/accessories/accessory.php?ID=510&Product=500&Category=0

Sorry, but this simply isn't true.
TomTom Go devices are TMC ready but Linux based.
TomTom Naviator isn't TMC ready and Microsoft Windows Mobile based.
Both versions have strictly nothing common (except GUI).

[REQ] Are there ANY software options for using GPS navigation in the US???

Hi all -
Is there ANY legitimate (non-warez) software for the Diamond that has US maps?
Tomtom - Version 6 doesn't list Diamond as a supported device, not sure it does VGA resolution, Version 7 there's no legitimate source for US maps.
iGo - no US maps
CoPilot - no US maps
Route 66 - seems to require an SD card
Garmin Mobile - requires SD card
Ostia - requires SD card
I just want to legitimately use my Diamond for navigation, but having a hard time finding any options. I've searched through the forums, but had no luck.
Thanks in advance!

Hi Ewans -
Thanks for your reply. I had a couple questions if you dont mind:
I have Tomtom 6 on my old P3600. I'm guessing you purchased a Version 6 DVD and used that to load up your Diamond.
- Does TomTom 6 support the Diamond's VGA resolution?
- When you loaded it on your device, did the TomTom Home software recognize your device? If not, did you have to select a device from a list and which device did you select?
- I'm pretty sure TomTom stopped supporting the Ver. 6 maps. It's a bummer but I can live with it. Can you confirm your experiece / have you been able to update your maps?
Thanks!!!!

Hi ND -
Is OnCourse a part of iGo? The reason I ask is because the OnCourse site lists US maps, but the software is apparently only capable of 320 x 240 (QVGA) resolution, while I think iGo 8 is capable of full 640 x 480 (VGA). If I could use the iGo 8 with the OnCourse US maps, that would be a good solution.
Were there any issues with just copying the SD data to your device? Others such as Garmin have required all sorts of finagling to get them to work such as keygens and such, and I really want to avoid any of that.
Thanks!
Mike

Just to add another older version, I run TomTom 5 on my Diamond in the USA with no problems at all.

Hi Nomer -
I like the Garmin software, especially since it has nautical maps available. However, I read elsewhere that the SD card version can't be used with our phones because there is an internal code that prevents their software from being used without the SD. Since I don't want any keygen or other cracks, I don't think this is an option. Anything I do I want to have be fuloly supported by the company and their service department.

Yeah, OnCourse is the name for iGo in the United States. You can use the maps from one for the other since it is the same. For copying the contents, the only problem I ran into was that it couldn't find the directory where the maps are located. To overcome that, you'll need to do a search of the Diamond thread, but the most important thing is to change a certain config file so that it reads from the Internal Storage instead of SD.
Good luck!

My version of TT6 was on an SD card. I just changed the communication mode on the TD from Activsync to USB and connected it to the PC. Then put SD card in card reader and copied all files over. When I unplugged the USB lead TT automatically started to instal (that got me panicing a bit!). Went through normal installation, got correct code from TTcodes and it installed and automically found the internal receiver.
No new version 6 maps coming out, but plenty of old ones still for sale from TT - I bought one for Southern Africa a few weeks ago and could not find any errors in it when I used it when driving around Western Cape province on holiday.
TT6 works fine with the VGA screen - but everything is smaller - I find I now use 3D view rather than 2D I used to as that comes up bigger (as it does on all screens)
Another poster here today says when he installed TT Home 2.5 and plugged in his TD it automatically offered him a free copy of TT7.9 along with demo map. Still have to buy version 7 maps but they are more up to date than version 6 - although there have been lots of reports of them still not showing changes in roads.

Landshark - at the moment TT are not listing any maps for US or Canada for TTN7 - presumably because no legal version of that is available there. Strangely they do list maps for Mexico and Brazil!
In reality the price quoted for those (presumably Version 6) maps seems expensive - you can download US & Canada maps (version 6.75) direct from TT website for $70.

Hi, did a search and nothing came up.
But just wondering where can i get the TOMTOM navigation software that works with the TP2 please??
also are there any sites specially for TP2/windows mobile apps??

AFAIK the Tomtom software is free, you only pay for the maps, but I could be wrong. I'm using 7.915.9196 which is VGA and works fine
I don't think there is any TP2 specific software on the market but there is loads of WM6 stuff

tom tom navigator works purfect on the TP2, have it on mine
Hi
I Have tomtom 7.450 installed on my tp2 and its working well for me.
yes but are they legal versions and work with the TOMTOm home
I had version 7.910.9185 which didn't install.
I have now installed 7.915.9196 but it is asking to activate the map and wants an activation code.
So I went to ttcode.com to get one and it needs the product code. I can't find the product code anywhere, tomtom.com myorders doesn't mention one and tomtom home just shows the map version.
As far as I can make out from tomtom's help version ttn7 onwards don't use product codes.
So how do I get the activation code?
Contact TomTom about that

Hey guys,
iam new here and from germany.
Last week i got my new TP2 (branded by T-Mobile, now called "MDA Vario V")
i tried to install following versions:
Mod Edit: NO MENTION OF WAREZ PERMITTED
so,
if i install the programm on my "phone-storage" i got the warning "BTTrayCE is not a valiued application..."
if i install it on my sd-card i got NO warnings.
but in every versions i got the problem that the software do not find my extractet maps. I searched for a long time and tried different folders, and now its 11:00PM and i dont have any nerves left
i hope somebody can help me and gimme a detailed instructure how to get my tomtom running.
so far,
mypTx
TomTom questions always walk a thin line with regards to legality. No discussion of maps will be permitted.
Opps sorry never mind
There should be a ttnavigator.bif file on the root of the storage card which you can open up in notepad and find the code in there...I think.
if you have live services like traffic and speed cameras then 7.915 is useless as you cannot enable traffic (bug). There is also a definate lag on the GPS side of things compared to my TYTNII. Tomtom at present do not officially support the TP2, although when i phoned them they were more than happy to assist. TTHome is not worth bothering with till they release a version that is compatible with it. I kept on getting errors about device id not matching even though you select to change it and TomTom had reset my account. Gave up in the end and have copied speed cameras manually and traffic is now working.
Managed to get Tomtom 6 working!
Hi,
Having just bought a Touch Pro 2 sim free - loving the device and just about got it set up the way I like it.
You can indeed install Tomtom 6 on it, but BEFORE you do I highly recommend you install a utility called WVGAFIX3. What it does is allow you to change the resolution on your TP2.
Change it to VGA (640x480), then install and run TomTom. It's a bit of a pain toggling between resolutions at the moment, but once a WVGA version of tomtom is released then problem solved.
Got the radio working thanks to the CAB on here, and the 1% batt driver!
