i got it it had no sd card in it,i put a 4mb card in but the phone wont recognise it,should i just try 128gb?or does everything downloaded require an sd card?
shoulds upgrade to wm6?
ive turned off 3g,but it keeps switching to gprs,does it do this any if 2g reception is poor?or am i going to be charged loads for calls on this?
i downloaded msn messanger,but it wont open,or do i need the sd card in?but got my hotmail on favoriets!
pop3 email wont down load,it asks for domain? im on blueyonder for this?
im also after so killer apps to out do the iphone!!! i want to watch films if that possible,even tho i got a pod 80gb classic!!also im after a pod signature capture program,like the postman/parcel guy uses!!
ive been trawling the net for answers all in getting a headache!!

In regards to your GPRS query...
3G operates on two levels, 3G and HSDPA.
When you switch 3G off, you go onto the GSM network, which has GPRS and EDGE.
This means, when you switch 3G off, your phone will automatically show the strongest signal, such as GPRS.
When at work, my phone will display 3G, but if i'm out in the sticks, i'm lucky if I get GPRS.
With the phone displaying the network, don't worry about it, your not charged till you use the network, its more informational to you for when you wish to use it.
As for MSN, I used PocketMSN, which I believe I downloaded from here, which works on my handset just perfectly.
Your SD card, where did you buy it from, is it an original card?
I know when I bought my phone, I had to update the WM version, as I wanted to use an 8GB card in it. Wish I could have more, so looking into that stuff now, but may just wait till I get my staff phone from work.
Don't know about anything else tbh, as still learning.
If you're running a stock rom then its probably WM5, it won't recognise anything larger than a 2Gb card, Its not SDHC compliant (which is what your 4Gb card is). You either need to search for and install the wm5/6 sdhc patch or install a later ROM version, WM06/6.1/6.5. You can find these in the WM06 part of the Hermes forum.

Remember to read up on how to Upgrade the ROM in your Hermes. Use the search function. You'll need to Hard SPL it first... GO to the upgrade section and upgrade it to Hard SPL V7 BEFORE you try any other roms so you have a measure of protection if (and when) things go wrong...

I have this weird problem with the JJ. I have 2 SIM's with 2 different Operators. The JJ works just fine with one SIM .....
BUT, when I insert the other SIM, I can make calls normally, but I can receive only ONE call (i mean it, ONE), after that the damn thing won't receive calls anymore! (Like the phone is turned off or unreachable)
After trying to make calls for several times it does work, but again, one incoming call and that's it.
I tried that SIM in the 8800, it works just great.
Anybody has an idea on what's going on?

the reason there are 80 reviews and no replies is cause nobody knows.
this is an anomoly, way out in left field, that I have never seen ever in all of the forums.
1. get a new sim card
2. get a new sim supplier
3. stop swapping them, and use the one that works
4. take the phone back under warranty and have them fix it.
Tried a colleagues sim card with the same operator and the same happened.. unfortunately there are no other sim suppliers.
the reason i want to use this sim in the jasjar is that my corporate email doesn't work with the other operator, there is some routing problem to our email server.
but why this sim doesn't work properly while the other does. its really confusing.

Could some settings relating to the "phone" usage be stored in the universal's registry that conflict with the other SIM card thats being used. Are both cards UMTS?

No they aren't ... I tried to hard reset the Universal with that SIM installed, nothing changed, still can't receive calls.
And once the problem happens, GPRS won't connect as well..

Already called them, they can do nothing about it, I traced our mail server using their GPRS, it stops some where is London! :lol:
I will try to down-grade the Jasjar with the old firmware. It might work :?:

Can the Radio only be downgraded? Or I will have to downgrade the ROM as well?
You can downgrade the radio only, Find the radio you want on the ftp and then upgrade or downgrade just that
Here is what I tried so far..
1) Installing Qtek latest ROM, still didn't work.
2) Downgraded to Radio 1.06.00 and the problem is still there!! :evil:

I suspect troubling SIM is UMTS (3G) enabled, AND has poor 3G coverage. JJ sees UMTS and spends its time trying to connect, but can't quite pull it off. I'm battling with this and trawling this board indicates that this is the issue; weak UMTS which you only experience witht he one SIM.
I love my XDA II. What a great bit of kit. I use it mainly for the use of TomTom in my car but would love to be able to use the voda SIM card I have (xda is unlocked) in order to browse the net and make calls if I have to, etc.
The problem is that When a sim card is inserted, I get all manner of problems with TomTom. Either I'll get "No maps found" or "Your device is not compatible with this version" or whilst driving along, the roads will disappear altogether.
Ive spent about three nights searching through posts and cannot find a similar problem. Can somebody please set me straight as to what's happening? Can I not use a SIM card in my XDA? (seems a bit poor if thats the case) or is it a question of needing to upgrade something in order for everything to work properly??
I should add that without the SIM inserted, everything works brilliantly.

Hi there guys Was wondering if any one can point me in the direction of how to set up my wifi card i bought two days ago, I just called TDMS - T-mobile and spoke to there well trained staff who said they dont have a clue what im on about, My MDA can search for spots no probs and pick them up, But for some reason i just cant connect at all, Do i need to assign for example a specific IP address or Even a certain domain?!?! I know there was a thread in regards to this, But ive looked and it takes me to no further than what im at just now, Any help would be much apppreciated.

Ok since i have posted my last "Q", I have tried my MDA without a sim card in, So my web and walk CANT start, tried using the wifi, But it seems that the MDA is still looking for the GPRS to connect over wifi first, Any solutions around this?! Help would be great

my wifi sd card also can`t work with wm6!
I have a i-tec SDIO Wlan and it is working better under clean wm6. Having some problems under original ROM. I mentioned the same thing - Charmer tried to connect over GPRS first. Under the clen new ROM with wm6 - there are no pre-deffined connections - wlan works much better. Maybe you needo to install some WM5 drivers to get it work.
I'm using the SpecTec SDW-820 (11 MBit) with my Charmer (T-Mobile Germany, WM5/AKU3.3) and it works quite good. However, from time to time it seems like Windows does not recognize the card. If I insert the card, just nothing happens at all. After a soft-reset, everything is fine again. Strange issue, since it's working most of the time without any trouble.

See that is what i get, The card dose work fine, but when going in to my exteneded memory, It shows no card is present, But i can still pick up hotspots with it

Bought a used uni from someone here and am trying to get it fixed (no gsm, wifi doesn't work, but otherwise seems fairly stable) I have no intent to use as a phone, just a connected pda around the house. I know I can always buy an sd wifi card, but that's no fun and doesn't teach me anything. I've got it all in pieces here and am hosing it down with contact cleaner, and I have an extremely basic question:
Do I have to have a sim card to use wifi?

No you don't need a sim card for that. I have a second mda pro at home and i don't have a sim card in it but i can still use the internet. So my answer is no.
My Universal is an xda exec, i bought it (second hand) and it would sometimes work with a 3 sim card and sometimes not. I tried and failed to put a new rom on it so had to ask my brother to fix it. He did and put an old 6.1 version on it. This rom would reconise my 3sim straight away no problems.
I have now upgraded to tomal 8.something and its back to not reconising the 3sim. I had it working last night with the free sim after randomly changing settings. I then installed a media streamer because tomal doesnt come with 1(strange by the way) but yotube no longer gave me the option to 'play' the video.
How do I get the this to work with my 3 sim card?
Are there a setof instructions I should follow in a certain order? before i just played with them randomly constantly swopping backwards and forth between my 02 and 3 sim untill it reconised it, which seemingly by itself it would.... but now it wont.
Is there a program or app I can store on my SD card for the next time I have to hard reset?
I know it works with 3 because the other rom did and both the original and this 1 does when it wants to. Now I am having to use my old crappy sony ericsson and I hate it. Help me out please people, for this I promise given the program or correct instructions order I will donate.
