TomTom Navigator problems - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

I see there has already been a thread started with regards to the compatibility of TomTom 7 on the Topaz but it has been closed.
Seeing as it is such a new device I do wonder if any one has actually used it out driving yet? I am sure some of you have installed it to confirm it starts and fits to the screen etc.
I have used it this morning and found that the voice directions are being clipped. An example being "After.................." when it should really be "After 300 metres you have reached your destination".
Now if you google the symptoms you will see this has been an age old problem even afflicting the dedicated TomTom devices. In fact I had the same problem on a TYTN II but was easily fixed by selecting another voice and then selecting the original again but this phone is a bit more stubborn.
I have moved the voices from the SD card the the phone memory, reinstalled TomTom, deleted all setting for TomTom, Re-Downloaded the voice Jane, tried different voices and languages and, as a last resort, hard reset the phone.
I am running version 7.915 so I guess the only other thing is to try an earlier version.
I wonder if I am the only one or is this an issue with the Phone and TomTom?
Oh and the GPS lag issue still persists but I have learnt to live with it on previous models.
Any feedback would be appreciated including the version you are running and where you store your voices. Many thanks.

same problem here
with italian voice and 7.910 version..

Same here with dutch VGA version 7.915.9196 and all dutch voices (didn't try other languages).

Hello,
Anyone can said how Many signals your catch with your diamond II ?
8 or 9 or 10 or 11 or 12 ?
Because on my old diamond the first version i catch 11 signal when i'm driving (it has 7201a chip) and the new version had 7200a chip.
Thanks for your reply.

for those who have problems with ttn7, have you tried to follow istructions on this thread?:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3631131&postcount=552
I remember also that ttn6 had this kind of problems with speedcamera warnings that wasn't optimized with gpsbabel... maybe this could help you?

"After.... problem" is still here.
You're link won't help.
Thanks
Edit:
Also TTHome will not connect with my TD2 and my TT account.
( ERROR: 573/#https://home.tomtom.com/account/setDevice )

I'm having the same problem in the voices

TT7 voices problem
I have that same problem with the voices.
now trying other maps maybe that'll help.
Really annoying problem caus the rest of TT works fine.

Hello,

Thanks.

@private69:
7.915.9196 BLACK VGA

Hello,
For jlp_svk thanks i will test it when i received my diamond 2.
@++

I tried my TomTom on the way to work this morning, had the same voice clipping problems as above - English UK voice.

Same here with the Spanish voice, athough it's funny because it only cuts on the parts "In 200m...." or "In 500m..." all the other recordings are fine

Changing maps does't help
I tried 2 different versions and several maps (both 7 and 8 maps) and all that doesn't help. I was not able to try the TT version 7.915.9196 BLACK VGA mentioned above so let's hope that's THE one that works.
I still find this voice-cutting problem rather strange: when pushed in the lower left corner (to set volume) the messages don't cut off.
Anyone for a solution?

Nope, version 7.915.9196 BLACK VGA has the same problem on my device with dutch ROM.

i have tried.
8.10 and 8.15 maps of benelux and western EU.
tomtom 7.915
program works with with maps, only the same problems as noted above me.

Of the voices I have installed Bonnie (USA) and Ken (Australia) don't cut out after the after. As bonnie's voice is so annoying I guess that leaves me with Ken.
EDIT: Spoke too soon, it only works sometimes.

Yup, same problem here . Have tried many different voices and they all do the same thing. Will watch this thread in the hopes someone cracks it.
Fingers crossed.

tomtom 6 NAVIGATOR

I have installed a (legitimate since you ask) copy of tomtom NAVIGATOR 6 onto my MDA Vario II. The 4+ Mb programme resides in main memory and the Western_Europe map and everything else is on the 2Gb Sandisk Micro SD card. I have a Fuzion SiRF starIII bluetooth GPS receiver. tomtom's US website says the hardware and software are compatible, the UK site does not. The programme runs very slowly (it's not smooth as I have seen demonstrated on a Mio, which had a 312Mhz processor, but is stilted). Sometimes the machine locks up and I have to press the 'OK' button. When browsing the map, the machine struggles to process the picture. I ensure that there are no running programmes. What is the cause, please? Could it be that the hardware and software are incompatible?
just try to flash aku 3.3 to your vario. it will make ur phone work smooth and will not hang at all. then u will be able to run tomtom 6 perfectly
Rather than risk aku 3.3 issues I suggest you are probably right and there is soe sort of hardware issue. I have navigator 6 and TOMTOM BT receiver and hav absolutely no issues at all
I use TT6 on a daily basis and I can say that under WM5 AKU2.3 it used to hang very often when putting post code. I ran ok. After flashing AKU3.3 it works flawlessly. The same with WM6. Now it also seems to run a little bit faster.

Welcome, but you are in the wrong place my friend. This is the HTC Hermes forum. This site is primarily for HTC devices. However here is Tomtom 6 for PPC phones (official tomtom site):

What you need to do is disable all the POI's except the speed cameras. Mine did exactly the same thing. You can still navigate to the POI's, they just don't show up as you're driving past.
Cheers.
ok... maybe you guys who have already told him to upgrade his phone to aka3... somthing or other do know best BUT...
could you please say what version of tomtom 6 you have. (there are at least 3 versions i have used)
to find this
load tomtom
on the navigation window tap the section of the screen that shows GPS signal strenth this will load the route summary window.
in here below the right hand side pannel that again show the GPS signal strength it should say the version number 6.XXX
please let me know what versino you have... i have found varying levels of stability and performace with diff versions of tomtom.. might be as simple as a different tomtom build to resolve your issues.

yep this is the same on mine, disabled all but a few POIs and no or very rare freezes. if it does freeze up hit the hangup button and relaunch.
there was some hope with the Version 7 tomtom out soon that there would be a fix for the problem.

My Hermes is running with AKU 3.3 and my TomTom is 6.0.30
ok. i have had pretty good results with 6.0.30 but it might be worth you trying the 6.0.20 version and see how you get on.
at least you will loose the anoying mute on start bug. (the phone sees a data connection and asuumes its a phone calls so starts in mute.)
ok well the results your described i saw with the first tomtom 6 i used, im assumeing it was on 6.0.00 but i have had pretty good results with 6.0.30 but
it might be worth you trying the 6.0.20 version and see how you get on. I'm using that this week by mistake since my last hard reset but its been stable for me.

TomTom voice prompts cut short

Hi Everyone,
Since experimenting with various voice command programs that work over bluetooth, the voice prompts in TomTom are truncated (After 300 yards......??) I have flashed several roms, formated my sd card and made a completely clean install of TomTom with no files that appeared on the original card, and still have the problem.
I suspect it is a registary problem.
my questions are:
How to fix
How can this happen when I have different roms from several chiefs?
Many thanks to all on this forum
Ireally hoped someone could help me with this
I was experiencing a similar behavior from Mobile Navigator 6, I'd only get the final part of the voice direction.
Changed sound quality setting for A2DP with Trinity Hacks, and now it's working ok.
No joint stereo, and high sound quality settings worked for me.
Thanks for the reply, will try.
Hi,
I have the same TT voice problem: "after ..." then nothing !!!
I 've tried with Tomtom V6.00, 6.03 but I have the same problem.
My ppc phone is LG KS20 on WM6
+++ Important note: I used TT V6.00 with my old HTC S110 running on WM2003SE and I don't have this problem. But when I changed to KG KS20 (wm6), I get this probleme with the same maps, same version of tomtom (same installation: tt6ifalleni.cab). Tested with 2 maps v675.1409: FR_plus & Western_Europe -> same voice problem.
Please help !!!
I never did get this problem sorted, tried several roms with no success. Best of luck to you!!
Note that I don't use bluetooth, I use the phone speaker !!!

I had same problem but it was not device. It was corrupt voice files. Try and find some voices elsewhere and try that.
Kill some poi, i had the same problem to but when i shut down some of the poi i used the problem was gone.
Maby its a memoryproblem??

TomTom 7 Takes ages to start! Mother of creation!

I have TT7 working fine on my Orange SPV M2000 running on the explode 6.11 rom.
However, I do have a problem.
TT7 takes around 5 minuets to start for the first time.
Strangely when TT7 has been turned off and the BA left on, starting TT7 the next time only takes 8 to 12 seconds.
TT7 runs from the device and the 715 map on SD.
I also have a problem with WiFi and phone, both can be very difficult to start.
Anyone else have these problems and can someone suggest a remedy.
120+ views and no reply, I guess I must have a unique problem. Tough titty.
Nope - I just read to know what is this about - I don't use BA for navigation any more nor see anything special in new version of TT7. I would just wait for another release - so far all of those releases are not official nor final.
Nothing special in the new TT7? OK then just to clarify and for what it's worth... We have been waiting ages for an official TT7 upgrade that just ain't coming. And just like the folk on this forum who crave the latest mobile rom upgrades, 7 is better than 6 because it can use the latest up-to-date (v7) maps
Also, it's infinitely better to have PPC/PDA because they are mini computers and a phone. PNA are limited to map reading and mp3.
I've been using BlueAngel for navigation for 2 years and I dumped the idea (and switched to PNA) because of constant problems with GPS-Bluetooth-BA. Now I just turn on the PNA and have the navigation ready nearly immediately and it always works. And beacause it's based on Windows CE 5.0, I can use any navigation system I want, apart from... TomTom, as this piece of **** does not support 480x272 screens, as the ONLY navigation software for Windows CE. So far no info about wide screens and TT7 - maybe indeed it's a bit better? Anyway for me much more effective is local navigation software, mostly because of better maps for Poland and quite interesting 3D interface (TT looks boring and outdated compared to Automapa).
I totally understand your view point but choosing the right satnav is really all about up-to-date maps and user friendliness.
TT7 is much easier and quicker to use in comparison to the competition.
I am still searching for the answer to why TT7 takes so long to start on my BA.

I'm thinking it might be an issue with WM6.1 and above. I use TT6 and before I upgraded from WM6 to WM6.1, it was working like a charm. Now, it takes a few minutes to start up (and sometimes it even crashes)
I think you could be right. I use TT7 frequently and it might be worth reverting to mobile 6. Anyone know if you can safely revert from 6.11 to 6?

It should be ok. You only need to flash the phone with the older rom and that's it. If you do it, please write some feedback in here since I am interested in finding out whether or not my theory was right.

Have you looked at the number of poi's you have showing on the map, the more you display the slower it loads.

POI's are not the main problem as TT6 started fine under winmobile 2003se with even more POI's than I have now.
I just did a test and removed all POI's and the problem remains.
POI's do slow TomTom during operation but my problem is the initial starting of the application.
Hi,
Got Qtek 9090 running xplode 7.00 rom ver 6.10.00 and Tomtom 7 runs perfect. I did have problems with TT6, taking long time to boot and find BT sat nav reciever.

TomTom 7 is always about 200 meters behind my actual position

Hi there,
i am running tt7 on my Asus P535 with WM 6.
I have this problem:
TomTom is always about 200 meters behind my actual position. I think this is so because of an not well resolution. Only if I drive very slow (about 30 km/h) tomtom shows my position correct.
I tried all versions. Repack 3 qvga, qvga... 7.450,.. 7.541...but each version came up with the same result.
Is there a possibility to stop this annoying lag ? Or do I have to cope with it. Did anyone else notice this , also?
With TT 6 (6.032) this problem never appeared.
If you're using a bluetooth reciever it sounds like it hasn't got many channels. More channels better reception - more accurate.
If the phone has gps built in then check the position of the phone in the car. It needs a clear signal to work properly. under the windscreen is best, not on the seat beside you.
Otherwise it sounds like memory problem. Other apps using ram and limiting how much the gps program can use. though most of the time when I had that problem it just kept jumping all over the place.
You have to slow down, you're driving too fast
You can also try turning off points of interest and any info you don't need. Even street names can make it laggy.

I don't think it's Tomtom's versions problem... it's the GPS signals likely
If you don't get a good signals or number of Sats yo will be far from your real position.
Consider if there are alot of obstacles which would cause or interfere with the signals:
- Tall buidlings, trees, objects
- under ground car park, buidling
- Metals (depends)
- Raining and not clear sky
- Other devices or in a high EM
- GPS chips got faulty
- Firmware or memory that store calculate functions got problem
- Not enough numbers of Sats
- ...
Hi again,
I don't think it is an GPS Problem.
I have an built-in- GPS- Receiver and I get between 6-11 Satellites.
Another user (he has the Diamond) had this problem, also. But he took the wrong tt7- Version. After using the right one everything was okay.
But it also might be the processor of my P535 ? Might that also be possible?
oh, I got about 18- 20 MB of RAM free

Have you tried using iGo or other GPS apps and experienced similar lag ?
Even on my old Wizard TomTom7 runs without problems.
Have you tried it in another car, or outside your car? Maybe your front window has a special alloy to prevent sun emission. Know this problem of some of my friends, they have had this problem (Mostly on new VW,Audi,BMW i know this problem, maybe other cras have something similar).
Hello,
I tried many other GPS-Systems. Navigon, IGO, MIO,Garmin, tt 6. But this 100-200 m lag appears only with tt 7. And this was all in the same car.
I have no ideas anymore what this might cause this.
I know, my P 535 is not the latest one but it still has got a 520MHz Intel Xscale..
It is not the map, also. I tried 3 different tt 7 maps already..

As was mentioned above by snachez, I believe it's the amount of poi's you have showing on the screen while driving. I had the same problem with about 20 poi's showing. When I turned it down to about 4 poi's, the problem went away, and now it's SMOOTH as silk.
Hope this helps!
Sorry to chip in here. Seems like you all here uses GPS. I just bought a new PDA. MWg Zinc II with built in GPS. Best GPS Software For The HD2

I will not be testing any free GPS Navigation software.
I will begin testing the following GPS Navigation Software for Windows Phone tonight.
I will be posting reviews for the major ones with tips to tweak the settings to get most out of your Windows Phone.
I will also be testing the Radio Firmwares and see which ones play nice.
Start off with
Garmin Mobile XT
TomTom
Navigon
Which other ones should I test?
Try CoPilot Live
I have CoPilot Live 8 installed on my HD2. It picked up the GPS receiver with no work on my part. Accuracy and speed seem good. It did not lag behind my actual location. I am curious about the quality of routes calculations versus some of the other programs. That's a software issue, not a GPS or HD2 issue.
I find that Garmin has a pretty bad lag on my hd2 with the stock class 2 card. IGO also has a lag but it's not so bad.

Again, Explain the lag on the HD2, What part is lagging in Garmin when it starts up, Re-Calculating?
I experience no lag at all in Garmin Mobile XT 5.00.20

I'm using an energy rom with 2.10 radio. What maps are you using? I'm using the 2011 maps which I had on my portable car garmin gps. Lag meaning as I drive past one street it'll take a second to actually show on the unit that i'm passing that particular street.
IGO8
I've been using IGO 8 for about 2 months now.
i had some problems initially getting it to pick up
on my gps receiver. I opened up google maps let that get
a fix on my location then opened up IGO8, fixed the problems.
i like this software (aside from no landscape)
but haven't tried any of the other ones so
i'd be interested in how it will stack up against the rest
I would also like to see CoPilot tested if you can. I tried the android version and I keeps getting a location half a block away while google maps reports my location correctly. I'd like to see your experience with it since it's a very cool looking program and has spoken street names.
The Garmin mobile xt runs beautifully on my hd2, I ran it side by side with my old 855 and they were step by step. Often tbe hd2 locks on to satellites quicker due to the agps. It ran so well I gave the 855 to my sister
I own TomTom 7, and just installed it today after purchasing the HD2 yesterday. Picked up the internal GPS perfectly fine without adjusting any settings. Runs very smoothly, trip calculations are fast, and it looks awesome on that big screen. Only thing I am concerned about is heat from sitting on my windshield mount in the sun, as I've read that some folks have had issues with the phone resetting when it gets hot.
I'll be interested to read anything else that your testing might come across.
the best one is NDrive
I use NDrive on my hd2 with no problems.
I tried many versions, but the only that works for me is:
NDrive ver.: 3.5.25 (856) DI
maps ver.: v.2.13
i'm new user and can't post links(remove spaces)

if anyone tried newer versions please let us know.

I'm currently testing Garmin & TomTom
I will update with screenshots and maybe a video soon.
If anyone needs their GPS software to AutoRotate let me know.
It's an easy fix and does not require installing yet another application on your phone. Regisry tweak packaged in a cab.
Have a link at my other post about Garmin Auto Rotate and you will see.
The same can be done for most programs not just GPS Navigation.
Primo all the way
The best IMHO for HD2 is Primo. Which is next version from iGo8. I use Primo 1.1 with 800x480 data. Works like a charm, including TTS.
Suprisingly Good...
I was on a trip last week and realized I needed to find the route to a hotel from the airport. Since I didn't have a GPS device, I went into Bing and had it calculate my route. It gave me turn x turn voice navigation and I was able to get to the hotel with no issues. It was clear, direct and fast. It gave me plenty of warning when my next exit or turn was coming up based on my position.
Since I don't use Garmin or other GPS specific devices, I don't have much to compare it to but since this was free, no worries!

I use TomTom too - no probs here and i dont have any heat. The only thing with TomTom is that the company has ceased to update the navcore for win mob devices so the nice stuff that is available on the dedicated TomTom devices isnt available on PDA eg:street name voice.

Where did you get TomTom v7? I just checked TomTom's site and the only mobile navigation I see is for the iPhone.

Just do a search in TomTom website for TomTom Navigator. That's how I get the latest TomTom Navigator. I believe its version 7.917 if I am not mistaken. Also, someone in the forum posted that cab file somewhere here. Just do a search.

Any chance you've got a link? I still couldn't locate it on TomTom's site.

I don't think searching is necessary, as it's probably removed if a cab file was linked to (piracy).
Have you tried one of the air vent mounts that are available? They are all over e-bay. That would keep the HD2 out of the direct sunlight. I don't know which vent mount to suggest because someone gave me mine, and it doesn't have any manufacturer's markings on it.
