Hello, today I found that my mini-usb slot is broken. What i mean is that the pins are mixed/ probably cause i have not seen the problem for some time/ and the plastic thing between the pins is missing, so may be new slot has to be put. Any idea where I can find mini-usb slot and what is it called ? Is it easy to replace it myself ?

Replacing EMU mini usb connection
If you're good at micro-soldering then you can replace the EMU (mini usb port) for the TYTN, Tilt, 8525, etc. You can purchase the connector (11 pin) from eBay for $3 plus $5 shipping from Hong Kong. You'll need to remove any memory cards, SIM cards, stylus etc from your phone and remove the 4 screws on the back. To remove you'll need an A5 (i think i used an A5) screwdriver (mini star screwdriver). Once removed, pop out the battery cover release tab and GENTLY lift the circuit board up (you'll need to gently pry the plastic retaining tabs that hold the board in). You only need to lift it up an inch or so - enough to get your soldering iron in.
Once the board it up, there are two 'feet' on the EMU that have been soldered to the board on the top and two more feet that are inserted into the board that were also soldered in. If you have the new EMU in front of you, you'll see the feet that im talking about. Place your iron tip on these joints and get them to free up. Next, place your tip lengthwise on the 11 pins at the rear of the connector as they are soldered on. Once free, you're able to remove the old EMU.
Place the new EMU in place and solder the 4 feet in 1st, making sure that the 11 pins are aligned as best as possible. Once the feet are soldered in, use a magnifying glass to ensure that all 11 pins are EXACTLY aligned. Touching your soldering gun tip to each of these pins will re-heat the old solder that's still on the board and secure the new pins so there is no need for new solder on here.
Put the phone back together and power up - all should be good!

Wow, that be some serious soldering. Personally, I'd just pick up another Kaiser on ebay for about $165 and be happy...you can even sell yours for parts if you wish.

Man that is crazy, My USB is bent and I was toying with doing it myself, you helped me from doing a big mistake. I can't solder that small. I AM SO VERY THANKFUL. Anyways, my fix was to get a 3 in 1 adapter that fits the weird size of the USB for top and bottom connections (I think the bottom of the center piece is audio). Since the adapter has top and bottom connections around the USB, it holds the center piece in place and makes the connections needed. I just have to carry the adapter everywhere.

i had a similiar issue, broke extUSB port, i just took my tilt into an At&t device support center and they changed the device on the spot.
Nice to know, I was thinking about attempting this but luckilly, my device was still under warranty. I just brought home my new Tilt today. This is my 3rd Tilt, if it happens again, ATT will upgrade me to a Fuze for free. Honestly, I like the Tilt better, but I might give the Fuze a try for a little while until the Fuze 2 (Touch Pro 2) comes out.

It looks intimidating, I know,.. but it wasnt that bad if you have the basic tools that I listed above (appropriate screw driver to remove the bolts, soldering iron with fine tip, thin silver solder wire, flux, magnifying glass, needle (to move the 11 prongs into place)) - all of which will cost you like $20-$25 to purchase brand new if you dont already have them.
For me, i couldnt be without my phone for a few days to send it off and get repaired,.. plus I find the $80+ repair bill ludacris when the part is $5 and it takes less then 30 min to complete so I decided to tackle the challenge.
If your 11 pin EMU is currently bent you'll probably have to replace it sooner then later. If I were you, i'd order in the part from eBay as it'll take 2 or 3 weeks to arrive anyway. Even if you do end up bringing it into someone - if you have the part already then you can negotiate how much they'll charge you (since then its only 20-30 min of work).

I have searched high and low and just cannot find the 11 pin HTC ExtUSB port connector on the Internet or eBay. I have a HTC 6800 Mogul and the pins inside the port are badly bent and two are broken off.
Can anyone direct me to a source where I can get this connector for cheap to the US?

I found the charger port on eBay from a US seller.
I took the phone apart to get a close look at the connector. Going to be a challenge for me as this is some fine soldering.
I have a 15 watt solderer. It has a fairly thin tip but seems big for the job. What size of tip is best?
Is there someone I could pay to fix it for me? like at a store or something?
Also I heard if u get that ugly jack the one that 3in one jack that has another mini-usb out and another headphone jack it will work again?? is this true??
I did order one of the plugs and soldered it in and the phone charging does not work. It may have been a poor solder job or something else got shorted in one of the internal circuits. The phone works fine but the battery needs to be charged externally and switched every day or two.
You can get the plug replaced by a shop but one local phone store quoted me a hundred bucks, more than the phone is worth.
If the mini plug in the phone is what is broken then nothing else you plug into it will work. You certainly can try it it and wiggle it around a bit.
In hindsight, I believe I could have saved my plug from going bad. It did not happen overnight and it did not occur to me to check the inside of the plug and check for possible bending of the connectors inside and straighten them up a bit. I did mess with the cable ends a lot, compressing them and such to make a better connection which worked a little but I think it messed up the internal connectors more. Check those internal connectors to be straight and that might help.

Get a BT headset solve all your problems if works for sync & charging, i picked up mine for £25 and there cans will also prove far more functional
VERY good news it still charges and syncs. What has happened is some of the connectors inside the plug are going bad or the cable that plugs the headphone into the phone plug is bad. If it is a bad cable no big deal. If it is pins inside the plug, you should be worried.
You can get music from the device via BT as suggested. But you will still be making frequent connections for battery charge and maybe synch too.
The HTC plug is a special mini-usb configuration and if the plug is the source of the problem I would seriously consider getting rid of it asap while it still works except for sound.
The plug might not get worse but odds are it will and then you are screwed, speaking from experience.

I haved that problem because reset hole is near usb slot and I puted in my stick in dark..but to resolve problem buyed whole second hand board for Kaiser and now have all parts for it for only 20 euro from local dealer..replacement is very cheap about 5 euro in mobile servis..
What does the complete mainboard cost? Perhaps that's better than replacing the kaiser with another one or trying to fix that ^^

I did the same thing. Lucky for me I was able to bend the pins back with a knife. I felt horrible after that but I got lucky.

I am slightly worried about the mini-USB connector on my QTEK 9100 as it seems to have a little bit of 'play' in it - i.e. it can be moved slightly and so seems loose.
I have read various threads about the connectors breaking and either being pushed into the device or simply falling out. Some people seem to have had some success getting them replaced or repaired under warranty, others haven't. Since I bought mine off eBay last year I think I am pretty much out of luck regarding warranty.
Anyway if I take the stylus or something similar and push the metal edge of the mini-USB connector it moves slightly within the over-sized hole in the plastic case (there is a very slight gap all around the metal outer part of the mini-USB connector and the hole in the plastic case). I am not sure whether it has always done this or it is becoming loose. Can someone else check whether their mini-USB connector moves slightly in the manner I describe or if theirs is solid? It is only a very slight movement but really that is all it has the ability to move since the gap between the metal and the plastic is very small.
The connection seems OK to my PC and I have upgraded the ROM a few times recently but this slight movement is getting me a bit concerned that it is going to break shortly and since this is the only way to charge it I will be left a bit stuck
If it is on it's way out what are my options and what are the likely costs? I don't think I have any warranty case and I am in the UK.

loose mini-USB connector
My MDA also had a loose mini USB connector over time it continued to become loose until it finially brokw. I was forunate that T-Mobile did replace it under warranty.
I did find a company ont he internet that charges $60 to replace the MDA with a new mini USB Connector. It does require the device to be shipped to them.

I have applied a rather crude fix by inserting some small pieces of card (I cut up a business card) around the slight gap between the outer metal part of the mini-USB connector and the surrounding plastic. This seems to have stopped the connector moving, although I still think the damage may have been done

Loose Stylus & Mini USB inspection.....
My Wizard has recently developed the loose stylus issue outlined here:

I have followed the instructions to 'strengthen' the small plastic retention tab using a bit of silicone which is currently drying.....
Whilst I had the back off I decided to take a look at the Mini USB connector and see if there was any damage. Well it looks like three of the four solder pads at either corner of the connector have become 'unstuck' from the circuit board (see attached image). I have some experience of soldering but I am a little worried that I may damage something else with the heat if I attempt to touch each of the pads to re-secure it. The five data pins at the rear all seem OK, it is just these ground/earth ones.
Has anyone else performed this repair successfully?

Since the replies were so encouraging I went ahead and re-soldered the pads and it's still working......
The silicone didn't work so I removed it and inserted a small piece of plastic and re-siliconed it in place. It's better than it was originally now
I think I'll take the back off again in a few weeks and see how the mini USB connector is. Any other advice as to keeping the USB connector intact?

I have had a MP3 player which has the same problem with the output jack (for the ear phone). The solder became loose and I get irritating silences during the music play back. I solve the problem by applying superglue on top of it because the circuits there are just way too small for my (or any other human) soldering skill.
Anyway, for this case, it seems that the ground is large enough to withstand minor heat from the solder. And, chances are, since it ground, in most cases thick/wide enough most of the way (as to absorb any 'distrubances') before it reaches any IC which is what you need to be really careful of.
I own a Universal for some time now and am happy with it. Last week my USB connection on the universal 'broke'. Now the USB connector is inside the Universal and I can hear it when I rumble my Universal. Can I throw awat my Universal now or is the some workaround to open my Universal myself and solder the USB bus? I do not have official guarantee anymore.
ps. Sorry for my bad English.

i dont think he literally means he will throw it away, i am sure he will sell it as spares if he cant fix it. I have a exec for spares, if you want the mptherboard to replace the broken usb connector, or try finding the universal service manual and take the thing apart and see if you can repair it yourself

I would say it is worth to open to see how big is damage. if is clean cut then it is easy to solder another usb connector. In the Wiki suppose to be a technical documentation which will sure help you. good luck
Ok, I ve opened my Universal (wasn t that hard ) and posted some pictures about the status of the USB port and motherboard.
I ve also went to a local AV-technician and the guy told me (after he tried some things) that it is not possible to fix it anymore. He said that IF I want it fixed, I will need a complete new motherboard. So I m a bit dissapointed now. But maybe you guys here can give me some more input if maybe there is still a way to fix it in a cheap way.....
Just a side-note: When holding the USB port onto the motherboard and putting a AC-adapter in it, I DO get a red led on the Universal. But he does not switch on or something.

Judging from your pictures, I think your friend is wrong.
If you are a able to solder and get a very fine tip for the soldering iron, you may actually fix it (unless there is something else wrong).
First of all, you need a new Mini-USB connector. This is easier said then done. One way would be to sacrifice a cheap mp3-player.
Then you solder the case of the Mini-USB connector to your PCB. Instead of trying to solder the 4 USB-pins to the PCB connectors, use a very fine cable (like the ones used for MOD-Chips on consoles) to solder each pin to the respective resistor (use a multimeter to make sure you use the right ones).
Finaly use some hotglue to fix the USB-connector to your PCB with increased resistance.

i second vma's opinion. being a electrical technician first i wud say out loud, by the picture very clearly:
THE AV TECHNICIAN IS WRONG, YOU DONT NEED A MOTHERBOARD. IT DOESNT LOOK BROKEN. YOU NEED TO GET HOLD OF A QUALIFIED TECHNICIAN WHO WILL DO AS YOU SUGGEST
*you first need to clean off all the lead and make the usb area all clean. this way you will be sure which electric platings have been tempered. so that you will be more sure which usb pin need to be connected via wires, to the resulting end of the damaged plating.
*you need to get hold a mini-usb port as suggested, you can buy a cheap mp3 player or whatever. there is lots mini-usb ports available around. i suggest first you try an electronic appliance shop.
*and replace it firmly with the help of glue specially formulated for circuit board. you can buy these stuff in an electrical shop
*make sure to test there is proper connection, if you have replaced the platings with the use of wires to connect to the mini-usb pins. test with a ammeter.

todays AV-technicians are just part exchange guys!!! I don't know where you from but anyhow this damage can be sure fix. I suggest If you never have done such job then dont try to repair by self( Universal still one of the best PDA's on the market to screw it up) Find a guy which has experience (even it cost you little money) and those guys also know where to get new USB connectors.

I got one the other day. Very fine soldering needed as mentioned above.
By god that's been butchered! I guess your tv engineer friend had a go at it... and by the looks of it did more bad than good. Ok here's what you need to do.
1: Get a new mini usb socket
2: clean up that whole area to get rid of all the solder spatter clean it by using a soldering iron / desolder tool on any shorts and a small flat blade screwdriver to "pick off" and solder spatter.
3:solder 5 small (by small I mean 0.5mm pvc insulated solid core) wires to the connector you bought in step 1 approx 2" long for each.
4: Solder the connector to the board by the 4 side lugs.
5: Solder each wire to it's correct test point (shown in the pictures but the gold coloured circle - you can clearly see which goes to where) you may have to scratch off the laquer on the PCB with a small flat blade screwriver first. Also don't forget to tin each testpoint and the end of each wire first... and for that matter the same goes for the connector end where you soldered the wires to.

If the plug is in any other way, the phone will not recognize it.
This is bloody annoying!!! I can't charge the phone anymore unless the cable is resting on something and I can no longer listen to music in my car (since the road vibrations cause the plug to move around).
So my questions are:
Is there a way to fix this by way of opening it up and soldering?
Is there a way to replace the USB port?
I'm tempted to just ghetto rig it by creating a "lift" within the port by way of a small amount of Gorilla Glue (or similar resin)...but that seems 'temporary' to me.
So here's to hoping that someone else here has had this issue (besides stupid ol me) and happens to have a wonderful solution for this issue. Also, if it matters, I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area. So if you know someone that does this kind of phone repair, please recommend them me. Thanks!

Just by experience with other hardware, I'd say either something is bent/broke or the solder joints opened up (most likely this, and I hope it's not surface mount...). No idea how easy/hard it is to open up a HD2, as I've been lucky enough to not have to , but once that's done, should be easy enough to inspect the connector, depending on electronics skills.
i checked the phone with 3 different cables. same symptoms.
yeah...i'm guessing (hoping) it needs a resoldering job. i suppose i should start looking for pictures of the guts.
I have exactly this as well. No desire to open my HD2 up so I've just taken to lying my wallet down next to it when I charge, and laying the wire over it. It's really annoying to have to do, though.
Hello there. Sad to hear that you have got this problem. There is nothing you can do to fix it, yourself. I had this problem for about 2 months ago, when my HD2 suddenly had the same problem, and would only charge when the usb cable was forced in a definite way. The situation is, that the micro-usb "house", solved to the mainboard, is BROKEN from the soldering. Some of the pins, is broken off, and when you push the usb cable upwards, the pins will again make a connection with the mainboard, but when you slip, it will loose the connection...
I send mine in for a repair, but HTC said that it was my own fault. They would not make a repair, unless I paid for a new mainboard. You can see picture from the repair center:

So what can you do now?
You can open up your HD2, to see the broken traces from usb housing, following this guide: http://pocketnow.com/hardware-1/official-htc-hd2-disassembly-assembly-training-videos-leaked - But you will quickly realize that it's IMPOSSIBLE to solder the pins. It's VERY small, and it's not only metal pins, but also some kind of micro wires, 5 pieces, and you can't just solder them...
The disassemble of HD2 it's not that hard, you will though need to buy some tools.
To get your HD2 working again: Get a new main board. From where? Good question. I looked at ebay, and searched for a very loooong, for a mainboard, but it's impossible to buy one, unless you find a hd2 on ebay with a broken screen, and the mainboard is working, for some small amounts, and change the mainboard yourself.
I waited for about 1 month for a mainboard, but couldn't find one. So i simply bought a secondhand HD2, for a small amount..
I hope this helps to clear up some things. Just PM if you have some questions.

I think I'm going to try this one cell repair guy in town next week. Apparently he's a soldering virtuoso.
If that doesn't work, I guess I will have to replace the mainboard with one from eBay and hope that it doesn't have the same symptom I'm trying to rid of.

Ah, surface mount =\ and the one in that pic actually lifted the pads themselves. If yours is anything like that pic, which I'll assume it's close, it looks like it should be possible to bridge the broken connection, but it will require a good quality temp-controlled soldering iron, fine tip, small wire, and excellent soldering skills. If the guy can hand-solder fine-pitch surface mount chips, this shouldn't be a problem.
The "fixed" connections would work, but wouldn't be 100% the strength of original. Some epoxy encompassing the connections and whole rear-end of the jack should strengthen it back up a bit.
So has anyone managed to fix this yet? Also, is there anything out there that can charge an extended battery without it having to be in the phone?

the people i brought my phone too was able to fix it. it took a couple weeks for them to get their hands on a new USB port (apparently i destroyed it beyond repair). once they got a new one, it was soldered on.
*one slight niggle though: it takes 30 secs to transfer 100MB of data to the phone.
they "warned" me that they were able to to solder one of the pins, so data transfer may not be possible. so maybe the port is now acting as 'USB 1.0'. thankfully the only time i do data transfer is when i put MP3s and videos on it. and the occasional ROM/NAND flashing (which i don't do anymore since Cotulla/DFT's NAND Desire flash).
so besides that's little set back, i can charge/connect my phone without having to worry about losing connection to my computer or car.
but to be on the safe side, i no longer charge my phone via USB. i have purchased an external battery charger along with an extra battery. its been pretty sweet.
I've just see this post, for a couple of bucks, I think its' 70 or so u can get a charging mat, that will replace the usb charging feature. Just an idea.

pk2_76; Mats are using dongles, connected to a phone by the very same micro USB port. While it might reduce the number of plug/unplug events, which wearing off the connector, the dongle itself is quite bulky to keep on all the time, and also might interfere with the holsters and skins. I'm still hoping for a special back cover rumored to be available from HTC with a mat-like charging accessory.
Well I just got one of the mains chargers off ebay, waiting for it to arrive. My port's getting worse so I need it sooner rather than later. Word of warning I guess, treat the connection with care!
Hey all, I recently bought a P580 when I was out in the States with work (I'm back in the UK now). Whilst I was out there it was working fine and when I came back it was working fine when I originally tried it out - I didn't want to use it much as it was supposed to be a gift but wanted to make sure it was all set up and stuff. Second time I tried it, it won't power on. I've tried multiple USB cables, multiple wall plugs and tried charging it on my PC. Nothing seems to get it to power on.
Everytime I connect and disconnect it to my PC I get the audible tone that says a device was connected but that's it. Samsung's Smart switch doesn't recognise it either. Talking to their support, I've tried holding Power + Volume down + home button but that doesn't seem to do anything other than disconnect it from the PC and holding the Power button for more than a minute doesn't seem to do anything either.
I hadn't rooted the device, in fact I'd barely done anything other than install a couple of apps like Facebook, Snapchat and Youtube. Does anyone know what's going on with the device and is there anything I can do? I'd definitely prefer not to send it back to Samsung as they won't accept it in the UK support so I'd have to send it back to the US support.
Anyways, if anyone has any advice it would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you.
It's not a power but display issue. If you can hear the sound in the background or press volume up and down and you can hear the sound, it mostly has the loose LCD cable.
Search Youtube how to open your tablet, the tool you may need is a guitar pick.
Disconnect the battery first. You only need to disconnect and reconnect the LCD cable. The locking tab is at the top of the connector, lift it gently up 90 degree and be careful, otherwise you might break it. All connectors are unlocked by lifting up from the top 90 degree and they're very easy broken if you're not careful.
Here the LCD cable ( black ) is just slightly below the line on mainboard, you will have a black screen

Hey, thank you for the reply! I opened up my Tab and it was loose. Unfortunately being a complete beginner I think I f****d it up and ruined the cable - imgur dot com/a/kvP8Z ( I cant post links)
Am I going to have to replace that now as it still doesn't seem to be working.. :/
Other than that I can't see anything else that might be wrong with it whilst it's opened up??

Speaking from experience, you are in a tight spot now... if you did what I did. I had a Tab S and I opened it up to replace the charging port. Different pieces, but same steps as listed above. I broke the locking tab that holds the cable down. My only recourse was to replace the motherboard. Long story short, it was easier (and not much more expensive) to buy a new tablet. I know this isn't what you want to hear. Sorry about your luck.
HOWEVER, my problem was with supply, my S was old and I couldn't find a new motherboard and the website I found was "out of stock" of used ones priced high. Since you have a fairly new device, you might be able to find a replacement much easier.

I don't think that the locking mechanism is effected, but I scuffed the black LCD cable thing and it's now showing some of the bronze beneath it.. I thought that maybe that was causing it to not just work now that the cable's in the correct position? If it's the case that I've completely ruined the device and that I can't do anything with it, I don't know if I can justify getting a second one in such a short space of time. :/

That's good. You might be able to find a replacement cable or even just put a small piece of electrical tape over the scuffed segment... Depending on how deep the scuff is. There are a lot smarter people on this board that may be able to advise you better.
Just searched "galaxy tab a 10.1 lcd cable" and they are pretty inexpensive. Cheaper than a new tablet! About $2 USD.

Try to tape the LCD cable down to the mainboard, I don't know how bad you damaged it. This LCD cable is not easy to take out as the section connected to LCD is under the frame.
In order to take it out, you have to cut the frame. It's easier than heating up the whole assembly to remove the touchscreen and LCD from the frame. Newbie will most likely damage them in this process.

This is the proper way to secure LCD cable both SM-T580 and SM-P580, without tape the cable will loose again.
This is another bad design from Samsung, the motherboard has no screw to hold it at the bottom. It can wobble easily, that's reason you need tapes to hold the LCD cable to mainboard , prevent it from moving out of the connector.
Guys there is a piece or tutorial that definitively solves the problem of the usb-c port of this device, I like it very much and I didn't want to get rid of it !!

However, the peice that went into the phone has quite a bit of thickness and felt if the phone were to ever fall on the charging port it would break the port and generally, I did not like the aesthetics of it, it was too thick. Check this video out if you are interested in it, it's for a similar phone (Video MP4 file)
3rd thing I considered was to DIY a battery case that would connect to the port and a cover that would be thick enough to cover the port and the battery case. Would then have an alternative charging method, like wireless or USB-C. I gave up on this as my port is fine as of now, since I bought a pre-owned phone, it's been working fine.
Currently, I only use an Amazon basics certified USB-C cable to charge the phone, I do not use the company supplied cable at all.
If you want to change the charging port yourself you can search on youtube you will find a video with reasonable knowledge on how to open up your phone and change the port yourself, like this one

there's none, you can fix it, but eventually, it's gonna broken again. The actual problem is the housing, it's put much pressure on the port so it wears so easily, especially when you're using your phone when charging, which most people often do even just for checking the notification.
In my opinion,
Change the port with the OEM original and replace that goddam USB cable that came with the phone,
That cable is the culprit, I use OnePlus dash cable
I was very luck to find a repair service that fixed the internal piece of hardware (I live in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil).
It took the guy approx. 2 hours to complete the job.
Note that he didn't replace the hardware, but fixed the original faulty component somehow instead.
If you order the OEM component from AliExpress or somewhere else and ask a technician to replace, it would take approx. 30 min.
After the job was done, the back of the phone was glued and kept strapped to the case with ribbons for half an hour.
Also I've bought a new cable, a highly recommended OEM one from Amazon. That was when the first signs of the problem emerged.
Now the fast charge is working again.
In the last few weeks of despair, I was applying pressure to the connector when attached to the port, by rising it or pushing it to the side, which only made things worse, since the internal component was absorbing all that pressure.
Don't do that. If the problem comes, try to replace the internal component asap.
One last piece of advice, don't charge and use the phone. Keep it quiet on a flat surface, like a table or chair.
I read somewhere so not sure of truths but.... the story said the problem was the fit being to loose and causing wear... The solution that the guy came up with was to put a small strip of cello tape carefully around the end of the USB c connector making the fit tighter... Seems like it could be a solution... I personally just keep changing the faulty bit.... The phones in a case so no need to professionally restick the back... Changing the part takes about five minutes

I think there is no solution for this problem. I changed the usb-c board 5 times, the last one yesterday. I finally bought 5 more new, seemingly original boards from an Aliexpress seller, for about $ 16 in total. Here is the link to the article, for anyone interested:
